A hip‑hop‑themed burger outfit born as a trailer and now a Nob Hill fixture that still rolls to rallies. Covered by the Albuquerque Journal and previewed on local news, its smashburgers and playful sides hit classic NM notes with green chile heat.

Service and atmosphere are excellent. Lots of 90s era hip hop decor. Ended up going over to the brewery to eat the food. Burger was decent but a little dry. Fries were average. Definitely not the best burger but the service and having the brewery next store make this a good eat.

Google
The decore was and hip hop music was on point. We ordered the 2pac, and baby got mac burgers. Both were super yummos, and the garlic parm fries were an added bonus. The service was top notch, and the employees checked on us pretty regularly! Although, $40 for two burgers, a shake and drink was a bit on the high side, I think.

Well this place to me is a iconic place to eat on knob hill . Its blends hip hop and underground rap .. with fresh made hamburgers and hotdogs and wings ect all themed after famous artists .. the food is amazing and local and (atmosphere) is the (eyedea) of perfect. They started as a food truck and popped up everywhere they could be, even would donate their time to local events. And ended up a brick and mortar and has taken off like a (token) in the food scene only (logic) thing to do is just go

Google
I don’t usually leave reviews, but this place definitely deserves some recognition. The burgers here are next level! Juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection—exactly what you hope for when you’re craving a great burger. The buns were fresh and held up nicely, and the toppings were generous without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick even though the place was busy. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. Also, shoutout to their fries—crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Total game-changer. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place is a must-try. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
I was so hyped to try this place. I’m a crazy hip hop lover, several people sent me the TikTok. The atmosphere was fun great decor and simple vibe. The cashier was nice and helpful. I loved getting Eve as my table/order. After 47 minutes and everyone after us getting our food. I went and asked. Was being patient since it was a bit busy. When I went to ask they said 7 MORE minutes. Waited a bit longer and the kid brought our food out. But the food was disgusting. The fries were cold and the burger bun was so soggy it was doughy, mush. When I took it up to them they said it was made fresh which could be possible if it was 30 minutes prior and had been sitting there. Because a bun doesn’t get that way in minutes. Very disappointed coming from out of town to try it and wasted a whole hour and a half for horrible food.

Google
I love the 90's hip-hop aesthetic and spent way too long at my table watching the music videos on the TV 😆. This is an enjoyable spot. The burger was soooo good, not over seasoned or overcooked with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and some juicy pickles. Packet condiments are on the table, although I enjoyed the flavor of my burger so much that I never added any. Burger & fries+drink (free refills)+tip=14.95. Definitely worth the price. 2-Pac Tuesday > taco Tuesday (2-pac burger special on Tuesday)🤤 Inviting, entertaining and will have you planning a trip back before you get back to your car.

Google
Ordered the G cheesy and it was delicious! Despite being busy we got our food out in a timely manner and the cashier was very attentive. Loved the hip- hop decor. Great option when looking to have a casual lunch or dinner.

Google
Great atmosphere with witty names for their menu items as respect to old school hip hop artists. There’s a secret menu you should check out before making your decision on what to eat. Including the hot Cheeto burger which is what I ended up deciding on which was delicious. I will definitely go back to try more!

Yelp
At phat stax the burger are bomb diggie! The service can't be beat! And as their name says they are phat: Pretty hot and tempting!! They even have arcade games u can play for free!

Yelp
A couple weekends ago I found myself looking for somewhere new. I used the Yelp surprise me feature and discovered this place. It's a rap themed restaurant! Of course you know I was hooked. I mean bro they have all the OG's all over the walls! It looked so cool! Today was the day I finally checked it out. Walking in I wasn't exactly sure what the set up was. They had a couple screens displaying the menu and there was a sign posted to order before sitting. I'm not gonna lie I was sold on the S&M mushroom burger instantly just cuz that's a rare find around here these days. I love mushrooms and anytime I can get em in a burger I'm sold! The vibe of the place was just flat out awesome. I really dug the mini arcade they had on the counter across from the register when you first walk in. The pops and photos across the place were just an awesome blast from the past. Not to mention the burger was slapping! The patties were seasoned well and the cheese was oh so gooey good. It goes without saying I'll definitely be back to explore the menu and get my nostalgia on. The burger and fries slap so hard it'll knock your taste buds into the sweaty palms of the 90's when Eazy E and the 3 six mafia were slapping those hits fresher than a coat of paint!

Yelp
Another one of my local favorites! I, again, ordered from Phat Tax because I was craving an awesome burger. Not only that, but I definitely wanted to get some more of their Parmesan fries. Everything was tasty, as usual. I haven't been to the store front so I can't comment on the ambience, but I can tell you that they are wicked fast on their delivery. I'm always impressed because they are across town from me, but I always get my order on time and it's always been correct. This is one of my main cheeseburger locations and I highly recommend you give them a go. Make sure you get green chile added for a little extra spice!

Yelp
Love the kitchen sink!!! Look at it! This is the bomb. You may have to wait for your meal but it is worth it! Staff is friendly and checking for needed refills

Yelp
Phat Stax is an hip-hop-themed burger joint attached to Tractor Brewing Company in Nob Hill on Tulane Dr. It's counter serve and very laid back and casual; no need to dress up for it. On their menu they have a number of sections: Intros for appetizers, Lil Youngin's for children, Fry-Day for different french fries, Tha Dogg Pound for hotdogs, The Phlox for chicken selections, Phatties for smashed patty and other burgers (including black bean and turkey burgers), Juice World, and 50 Centers for sauces. I got the Cardi-BBQ from The Phlox menu section, which is a "Grilled chicken strip sandwich topped with cheese, BBQ sauce, bacon, and onion rings, served with fries". I took off the cheese and added extra BBQ. It was decent, but not the best BBQ sandwich I've had. The bacon was crispy and the BBQ sauce somewhat spicy. I would have enjoyed a thicker BBQ sauce though, and more of it. Since I can't eat dairy or red meat, my experience probably isn't representative of most people's experiences there since their specialty is burgers and it seems somewhat unfair to judge solely on a modified chicken burger, though I suppose reviews are an individual's perspective anyway. My husband really enjoyed his smashburger and gave the restaurant a 4/5 on his end. I'm not sure I'd go back, but my hubby would.

Yelp
I want to thank all who have recommended phat stax. This was a place i probably would have never tried. Hubby and I went tonight. It was amazing. The staff was friendly, the smash burgers were so tasty and fries were perfectly done. The atmosphere was fun! We will be back for sure.

Yelp
Phat Stax is hidden gem that probably won't stay hidden for long. Plenty of parking for a downtown area, was not terribly packed, and the service was fast and good. The best part was the food of course. I got the OPP, a BBQ burger with pulled pork. It was piping hot and well cooked smash burger. Staff was very welcoming. One of the best burgers in ABQ.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Amazing burgers, great fries, friendly service. Not even a fan of rap but I'll be back!
google avatar

Warren B.

Yelp
It's a nice burger. Smashed yes but also super salty. The tomato is pale pink. The lettuce flavorless and the pickles minuscule. But peel back the layers and find nice French fries and friendly service. Solid three stars.

Yelp
We got hungry while playing trivia at Tractor Brewing in Nob Hill. They don't serve food, but Phat Stax is right next door. I've seen their menu and the food names make me chuckle. I had the SPM, a single smashburger patty with lettuce, tomato, and fries. This also comes with onion; I don't eat raw onions, so I skipped them even though they offered to grill them for me. It was very good, a little crispy on the edges with hot, fresh fries. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other items on my next visit.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite place so far for burgers in Albuquerque. Smash burger style patties with nicely crisped edges really bring the flavor, and the options for toppings are solid. The location on Nob Hill is convenient and the service has been efficient and pleasant every time I've visited. The hip-hop theme is fun but if you're just here for the burgers it's not going to drown out the food.

Yelp
I'm a Nob Hill foodie, because I like what it has to offer and I live nearby, so one of my go-to spots is Slice Parlor. On our way out one day, we saw a sign propped on the sidewalk for Phat Stix Burgers. On another night, my boyfriend surprised me and said he was taking me somewhere new for dinner....he brought us to Phat Stax! Our visit was in the tail end of summer in August. So it was a bit warm, and their ac was not operational. They had fans set up in the dining to move the air around. It was still a bit hot and muggy, but they did their best to accommodate, and we appreciated that. Our food came out fairly quickly. I had burger and my boyfriend had a hotdog. We split both so we could both try each others food. It was good but I will admit, but it didn't excite me. The ambience caught my attention a bit more than the food. The menu items are all hip-hop themed with and ode to rappers like Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. The names are a lot of fun. I am interested in coming back to find that burger or dog that really makes me hum!

Yelp
First time, thought it was very tasty. I got the BLT burger. My husband got the Big Rell, Mexican type. We both finished our burgers and most of the fresh hot fries. Only problem was my husband got very sick in the middle of the night. Hope it wasn't food poisoning but he had eaten nothing else. Guess it could have been a bug of some sort

Yelp
Really great burger spot. Lots of selection and the people working are great. Probably a Top 3 burger spot in Albuquerque.

Yelp
A quite unassuming place, Phat Stax is connected to a favorite brewery, making it a very smart partnership. The menu is absolutely cheeky with its rap and hip hop references. The burgers look clearly decadent; the ingredients were intriguing. Therefore I took a chance with the MC Jammer and there were no regrets. It was a huge burger with ham and burger Pattie's, cheese, and a sweet element with the raspberry jam. All the flavors danced together beautifully in my mouth. The fries were ok, making the burger the absolute star of this experience, making the long wait completely worth it.

Katharine M.

Yelp
All the food here is so amazing! I have only ordered my food to go so far, but the restaurant has a really neat ambience as well. My favorite is the garlic Parmesan fries!!
google avatar

Drone K.

Yelp
Good burger, very salty. They use Romain lettuce mixed with spinach which is weird, it's a bar style burger and should probably just stick to iceburg. The Romain is soggy and doesn't match with the type of burger. Fries lack flavor and seasoning. Literally nothing on them but maybe a pinch of salt. Would definitely be a better meal with better fries and the right seasoning. All around decent.
google avatar

Nevena K.

Yelp
Food is delicious, the staff is friendly and attentive. This is a really great family business that is Nob Hill's best kept secret.

Jack G.

Yelp
Trash quality. Definitely store bought fries. Everything includes the onion rings had no flavor!
google avatar

Bornyn L.

Yelp
Grabbed a green chile cheeseburger on a Sunday afternoon recently with friends. It was a quiet afternoon, it seemed. Not too busy for the staff. So WHY would you serve it on an ice-cold bun, busy or not? I may try Phat Stax again in the future but for now, it left me "cold."

Yelp
This little spot is attached to Tractor Brewing in Nob Hill. The vibe is so chill and fun. They had old school hip hop bumping and a nice guy selling custom shirts. The burger was full of flavor and didn't fall apart when you eat it and the garnish was fresh and crisp. They use nacho type cheese on the green chile cheese fries, which I'm not a fan of, BUT they were freaking delicious - TRY THEM!!! The chile is hot but not too hot, it was perfect. The staff is super friendly and they have fresh lemonade, which my kids loved. When you order your food, they give you a little sign/number for your table (think when you eat at whataburger) and then the staff comes out to find you to deliver the food, which was nice. They used images from hip hop magazines for the table signs... see my photo for reference, which I thought was really cool. The only critique I have is that it was effin hot in there. They had fans going but it was uncomfortable in the building. There is patio seating in the front and back but it was so hot that it wasn't much better than being inside. Overall, we loved this place, we will be back often because even with the heat, it's worth it!

Nicole C.

Yelp
LMAO to the review below for "flavorless lettuce" - This place is hands down best local burgers in Albuquerque. We got their monthly special which was a hot Cheetos burger, it was amazing. If you are craving a unique smash burger, this is the place. Support local. Please keep me updated on where I can find this magical flavorful lettuce in Albuquerque as well.
google avatar

Dahlila V.

Yelp
A little pricey BUT definitely worth it. The burgers have great flavor and the vibe inside is great. They play nothing but hits. The service was nice, efficient, and attentive. The best burger is the Baby Got Mac in my opinion

Thomas S.

Yelp
My gf and I stopped off here for lunch on a road trip because I said I wanted a burger and this place had good reviews. As she read off the menu I asked if any of the burgers had sauces (I come from LA where in n out is king) she said no. I was kinda wary but I love hip hop and wanted to check it out. As soon as I bit into the 2pac I knew why there was no sauce. The owner is an excellent chef he said if you're using sauce you're hiding something. His wife was just the sweetest to my girlfriend and I. She asked if we wanted to sit on the patio with our dog, offered to turn the heater on for us and asked if we needed a refill. Biggest regret is we were on a schedule and we couldn't stay longer to chat about all the fun Easter eggs. SPM is a pretty niche reference especially for your main menu item. I definitely recommend to anyone who finds themselves looking for a burger in Albuquerque.

Simone S.

Yelp
Burgers were amazing! So flavorful. Service was super speedy and the (owner? Manager? Chef? All of the above? lol) came out to check on us, which is always a great look, in my opinion. Cute little place with allllll the jams! Every 90s baby needs to try this place out! We'll be back soon.

Jeff D.

Yelp
The G Cheezy is one of the best Green Chile Cheeseburgers in Albuquerque! Great wings too! The vibe is great, the staff is friendly. Great experience

Marc G.

Yelp
I had high expectations about this place when I saw the menu. But that all changed when I got our order: the chopped chile wasn't peeled! Seriously? How could you throw a bunch of chile peels on the hamburger? The meat was rather dull and tasteless. Then I got to the fries. They were served in a little fryer basket - cute, but spend more time on getting better fries. These tasted like deep fried grocery store fries - not even the shoestring or thin fries - they were one step above crinkle fries. I probably won't be back - $30 for a couple of burgers that were just not that great doesn't seem like something I want to do again. I hope they change their quality and I could try them again....

Yelp
Me and my husband got the 2-Pac burger, and I must say, best burger in the city. I have never had a burger with so much flavor and perfect ratio with all the ingredients, layered wonderfully. The hip-hop aesthetic is creatively paired with the delicious meal, leaving you with a satisfaction that can be hard to come by at other burger shops. A well deserved five star rating and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for the best burger in Albuquerque.

Jack M.

Yelp
great food must stop by and try their amazing burger. lot of variety and delicious tastes!

Yelp
If your in the mood for a gourmet hit dog at a great price, you have to try Phat Stax. They have this awesome hip hop theme going on throughout the restaurant, including the menu. I got a Green Chili Hot Dog and my fiancé got a Snoop Doggy Dog. Both were amazing and their fries were really good! There is a brewery next door so you can get a drink before or after.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
I'm a big rap nerd so this place doesn't disappoint. The Hip Hop atmosphere is great! Posters and toys all over! Smashed burgers are my favorite! Great service and family owned.
google avatar

marie s.

Yelp
Service is great, atmosphere is fun, burgers are pretty darn good however my husband and both thought the bun could be better, it was very dense, heavy, almost too much bread. Oh and the hotdog was yummy!
google avatar

Onastine N.

Yelp
Walked into a trivia night with an awesome dj themed to their 90's rap ambiance. Good came out fast and hot. Easy order at counter, and they bring it to you. I loved their Wow wow lemonade. Their prices are very affordable for how much food you get. Tractor is next door if you'd like an adult drink.

Yelp
Tried Phat Stax Burgers after a friend told me about. The restaurant is a Hip Hop smashed burger place, all the burgers and sandwiches has unique names and toppings. I had the S&M mushroom and Swiss burger it was smashed great with crispy caramelized edges overall a great burger. The owners are super nice and really, I will be back to try some of this other menu items!! Great place for quick lunch or dinner while your having beers at tractor.

Nancy M.

Yelp
Went yesterday, late afternoon, with a bunch friends. 1st time going. Let me tell you this food is amazing!!!! I had the SPM and my husband had the Gcheezy. They were very flavorful and tasty. I spoke to the woman owner her name was Tanya and asked her about the place. She had mentioned she and her husband, and pointed to the kitchen, came up with the idea and gave me the history of the place. It's wonderful to see a husband and wife working together at the restaurant making things happen. I was blessed to see it in person, they are such a cute couple. I wish nothing but success to the business and many more years to the husband and wife team I saw yesterday.

Yelp
Super bummed by our experience. The wait was incredibly long (it was summer fest so we weren't expecting things to be super quick) however the food was really disappointing. I wanted to like it soo soo much. The names of the food were clever referencing different artists. I got the teriyaki burger. It didn't feel like I got two patties, they were so thin. The whole thing was drowning in grease and the fried tasted liked they were frozen fries. At $15+ per meal, I was expecting more than a grease filled fast food tasting burger. The kid (he was like 13?) who took our order didn't greet us, the family that was waiting for their food next to us said they ordered it to go and he told them they didn't. Some customer service lessons would go a long way. There was a booth with records and t shirts. They were super nice. The patio was great. Inside was incredibly hot and some ac wouldn't go amiss. The bathrooms were very clean and fully stocked.

Angok M.

Yelp
Service great food even better. Never fails to impress every time I come. Best burgers in Albuquerque.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Loved the food, music, vibes, staff and service! Thank you Caskey, Tonya and the fam for bringing this gem to Abq!

E C.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try Phat Stax for about a year now. We went Memorial weekend. Once we got there, the cashier didn't welcome us and was lazy to offer us refills on our drinks. Her and her coworker didn't want to work Memorial weekend for sure. But the burger was just like any other burger. I got the SPM with green chile. The green chile made my burger buns wet and soggy. But I had the munchies so I'm like F it!!! If you like overpriced mediocre food, then I'd say Phat Stax is for you. Won't be returning. Rather take my chances at Lota.
google avatar

Dominick G.

Yelp
The service was great, the bun was rubbery, the fries tasted like they were from a frozen bag and were unseasoned, the fried pickles were very greasy and over cooked making them very hard to chew on. For 2 burgers and no drinks the total was 39.92 not worth the price in my opinion for concession level food.

Chorus P.

Yelp
Not a smash burger. Extremely slow service. I had high hopes for this place. The menu features a variety of smash burgers. You know, the paper thin patties with mouthwatering-caramelized, crispy "lattice" on the edges...these burgers are steakhouse style, thick patty burgers. Bacon was undercooked on one of the two burgers we ordered. Fries were crispy and warm but were under salted. The burgers we ordered had no sauce which made for a slight dry texture. Overall the burgers were mediocre. Not terrible, not great, not a smash burger. And all of this was not worth the hour-long wait. Several other customers left before receiving their food due to the long wait. The restaurant environment wasn't anything special... mostly a bunch of hip hop artist fan-art and photos. Loud rap was playing the entire time which I suppose is to be expected due to the rap-artist theme. The restaurant needs to deal with the ventilation. Our clothes smell incredibly strong like the fry-cook station. The whole place is filled with the smoke from the flat top. All-in-all I'll keep on the lookout for a good smash burger in Abq. If you've never had one, don't start here. Maybe with a few changes this place could have potential, but as it stands now, we won't be back.
google avatar

Jody W.

Yelp
The sign up front said wait to be seated, but the young lady at the counter said go ahead and sit anywhere, so we headed outdoors. No one came out, so we went to a table inside and it took several minutes before a waitress came over to take our order. We had time before our food came to watch other parties order and one of them ordered and pointed to the table number where they'd be going to sit. I'd advise ordering at the counter first, in hindsight. I had the OPP, pulled pork burger with onion rings and BBQ sauce, it was delicious and a lot. And went through about 8 napkins, easily could've been a dozen. Went to wash my hands instead of more napkins, loved the bathroom signs, both were "Whatever, just wash your hands." Just know the OPP is a delicious mess. Another reviewer mentioned that Green Chile and Cheese Fries were nacho cheese and that wasn't their favorite, but that it really worked. Spot on comment. Ballpark nacho cheese is not my go to even at ballparks, but with green chiles, it is delicious. If you are on the fence over the nacho cheese, hop off and take the dive, it totally worked beyond my expectations. The only other odd non food related was the songs from the speakers weren't the music videos being shown on the TV. Both were old school hip hop and rap, in keeping with the theme, but not even the same artist or genre playing at the same time was a little weird.

James B.

Yelp
The food was really really awful and ridiculously overpriced. The staff was great but I will never ever be coming here again. Food was truly disgusting I'd prefer to eat a McDonald's hamburger over this for a quarter of the price.

Theodore S.

Yelp
As I write this I'm still waiting for our food an hour later. It's burgers. There are too many burger places in town to be this slow. We won't be back Update after waiting another 15 min we left. Never got food

abraham r.

Yelp
Burger was delicious! Service was awesome! Ambiance of the place was cool! Recommend the Notorious BLT burger, add green Chili!
google avatar

Bo R.

Yelp
Right next to Tractor. If you're craving an awesome burger and fries this is the place to go. Been twice and service was fast both times. I was all sad when the Little Red Hamburger Hut went away but I finally found the new best burger in town!

Sabrina G.

Yelp
Being a hip hop fan, I was excited to try this place. I had friends visiting from out of town so we had to try this place. As soon as we walked inside, we smiled. The menu item names are clever because they reference artists and the staff was friendly. The decor was hip hop and they even had music videos playing. Their funko pop figures are dope too. Very cool! The food was okay but a tad salty for me, personally. We did enjoy the fried pickles, fried corn and lemonades. Burgers are good. The only thing bad I'd have to say is , it was so hot inside because there wasn't air conditioning. They had multiple fans running but didn't help. We were happy to eat and run because it was so uncomfortably hot inside. I would eat here again. For sure.

Ray F.

Yelp
They have a lot of potential. I'm rooting for this business! If I was somebody, I would say they need to work on the drink menu because I am a thirsty bitch and I was struggling! I would like to see some sort of collaboration with Rap Snacks and maybe a specialty burger every now and again..like Bob's burgers does. The only thing I did not like was the fried elote.

Loti B.

Yelp
Highly recommend! Nice juicy burgers, friendly staff, the food compliments the brewery next door. Great local smash burger, vegan/vegetarian and gluten free options available. Theme and ambiance suits the fun and creative menu. 10 stars!!!
