Love this place! My husband and I came here for the first time and the staff was amazing. Not only did they care about the quality of the drinks they gave us, but gave us great personal recommendations and were incredibly kind. The prices are a little high but well worth it and reflect the quality of ingredients and effort put into the drinks. Very aesthetic and cool ambiance. The atmosphere is a really cute place with fluorescent lights and beautiful art all over the walls. When it comes down to the food, I would say it’s very much charcuterie, style food, so you’re not really gonna find anything that is super filling. The drinks are good, and the service is great.

My coworkers and I went to this bar tonight and we were turned away from the bar due to typing on the key pad. We tried to explain it was an honest mistake, but the man said since we were in "in a funky mood" and to try again tomorrow. The utter disrespect that my coworkers and myself experience at the hands of this man was honestly impressive. I can confidently say that I will not be returning. If you do need a recommendation for a good bar go to the Association.

On a southwest road trip and found this place doing some internet sleuthing to find an interesting place to grab a drink. The atmosphere and service were top notch. Drinks were great. Didn't try any food as we just had dinner.

Phelanies is a fun place to go for specialty and unusual drinks. The atmosphere is fun for a small group or a few friends. A traditional speakeasy, it requires a password to enter which can be found on their Facebook page. Would be a fun place to dress up in 1920's wear and enjoy the company of people you like. 😊

Stopped in on a whim. Cozy, friendly staff, excellent cocktails. The Hot Toddy was delicious and the Bananas Foster came with a show.

Yum drinks with creative flare, friendly, down-to-earth people, food offerings are ok, nice little bites. I love the decor and vibe. I live out of state but definitely enjoy spending time here with my dear friend when I come out to visit.

Such a cute idea. You can get the password to get in from Facebook or from your receipt from Horsefly (same owners). You could tell the bartenders lied their craft. Every drink was made with care and pride. It took a bit to get our drink order because of that but the wait was well worth it. We did not get any food but someone from our B&B did and said the food was great. Food was mainly snack type items.

Phelanies has set the bar for one of the best Old Fashioned I've had and I've had many Old Fashioned drinks from Brooklyn, to LA to Denver. My husband and I were visiting Montrose and decided to try the local speakeasy for a night out. We were greeted at the door immediately and was well taken care of the second we walked in. If you like whiskey, I would high recommend getting the Old Fashioned because they will bring the alcohol cart to where you're sitting and make the whole drink in front of you. It made the drink such a fun and unique experience.

This place is a hidden gem. The cocktails are amazing, the ambiance is on point, and the staff is wonderful. If I lived in this town this awesome spot would be my second home!

Went there at opening last Saturday night. Bartender (dark hair) very arrogant. Not sure if we will be back. Trying to show off this place to out of town friends.

We stopped here for a drink after dinner on a Saturday night and really enjoyed our experience. The drinks were well crafted and delicious. Our driver's non-alcoholic drink was overpriced, but the other drinks were on par with any other craft cocktail bar. The vibe was very chill and intimate. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to have a drink in a spot that was unique and that had an ambiance that let us have a conversation without having to talk over loud music or other noise. We will definitely be back!

This place is amazing and the atmosphere is peaceful. It has a beautiful roaring 20s vibe to it and is so well decorated. It is very cozy and the staff are great! They have hand crafted cocktails and there charcuterie boards are exquisite. I highly recommend!

This place is super cool! You have to go to horsefly brewing or on Facebook to get the current password. You go into an alley and ring a doorbell where someone comes to a cage on the door to ask for the password and let you in. A true speak easy! When you get in you are greeted with a free mini cocktail. The space is absolutely gorgeous and screams 1920s from the decor to the music. It's dark and lit with candles and dim lamps. It's very comfortable and relaxed. Service was very attentive and authentic. We had a few of the special drinks and the bees knees. The cocktails are incredibly made. We got the appetizer sampler and everything was just OK, except the duck wontons which were great. I would skip the food next time but definitely my favorite spot in Montrose for a drink!

This is a fun place! A little pricey but we'd definitely go back again. Comfortable seating, period dressed waiters and waitresses and excellent drinks.

I just can't get over how great this place is. We are from out of town and always stop here when we visit family..I absolutely LOVE this place. Excellent cocktails, great ambiance. You can't go wrong with this place for excellent cocktails.

Three girls walk into a bar...we're in need of some giggle water. So there we all stood when the secret little door opened...a voice quietly asks...what's the password? As we spoke in unison, I thought to myself, maybe we are in need of a little giggle water to get the night started, then just like that the door shut...silence. Oh crap, we're not getting in...maybe we didn't say it right! Then a few moments later the door opened and we were greeted by a 1920s-styled gentleman. He kindly welcomed us into a small but quaint waiting area and told us he'd be back in a few. When he returned, he handed us three glasses of champagne. Dang, we're not even in the bar yet but already digging this place! Finally we're in, and reminiscent of the 1920's with its vintage and retro decor...this speakeasy was super cool, comfy and cozy! Are we really in Montrose? Their drink menu was awesome and I'm not gonna lie, but it was kinda fun watching our mixologist carefully hand craft our cocktails with such care and pride...after all, not everyone can shake, rattle and stir like a mixologist...these peeps are trained professionals! Bottom line, Phelanies is a welcome addition to the Montrose community and night life. Really loved the ambience and the service and drinks were excellent...we truly had such a lovely evening and experience. Can't wait to come back!

So, this was our first time and having recently moved from Florida we are not used to things closing at 10 pm. So we arrived at 9:30!!! Had I known that they were about to close, I don't think I would have come in. But despite of that, the staff was super friendly, they recommended some good cocktails to my wife, and they prepared the best old Smokey that I haves tried in my life. The ambient of the place is really neat, I thought I should have dressed up at first, because one really feels in times gone by. We will be back definitely

Great drinks and lots of passion when it comes to how they create them. If you are going to market a location as a speak easy, with rules and have gone through the trouble of creating the environment then you need to enforce your own rules. I understand its Montrose etc... but man.... if people want to act out and carry on like its Chili's send them to Chili's. We were extremely disappointed in the way guests were allowed to carry on with noise levels that are more suited for a sports bar. We left after one drink but would have stayed and brought our friends. Now we will tell them not to come.

Loved this place! We are from out of town and stopped in for a pre dinner drink. The ambiance was so fun and drinks were 10/10! If I lived closer I'd be here every day!

This little speak easy reminded me of a speak easy in the basement of a hotel in Prague. It's very well done! The drinks were outstanding and the snacks were great too. You need to have a password and know where the door is because it's not marked. Look online for the password and enjoy. We recommend the bee's knees and the old fashioned.

Such a cool place for Montrose. The vibe inside is really cool, my wife and I usually end date night here. The drinks are really well made and the servers make everything really fun!

This is the best speakeasy I've ever been to! The manager went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. The speakeasy itself was definitely one of the coolest ones I've ever been to. The atmosphere and decor was superb! I would come to Montrose solely for this speakeasy!

I highly recommend stopping in. We've been here a few times and it's always worth it. This time, we were immediately greeted with tasty punch to wet the palette before being seated. Such a great group of guys behind the bar, with a passion for their craft, who we had a good time getting to know and discussing shared experiences exploring other speakeasies and bars around Colorado. We enjoyed all the cocktails this evening, as usual, and we appreciate the skill and effort that goes into concocting them; our favorite was the Strawberry Fields.

Was at the brewery next door and was suggested stopping by here. Great craft cocktails and even friendlier staff. Stephan rocked it and same with our other bar tender who I'm having trouble remembering the name. Make killer drinks and fun conversation.

Cozy, romantic vibe and best drinks in Montrose. Easy to stop here for delicious cocktails and apps before a movie at the Fox and will definitely be back. Thanks, Dave for the expert mixology!

My fiancé and I were visiting his family here in Montrose and were told about this bar. When we walked in, I thought it was super cute and cozy. A great place to take a date. The service was excellent. We would definitely come here again.

This place is beyond amazing. The atmosphere is top notch and their premium cocktails will make you want to come back for more. My husband and I were lucky enough to have Robbie as our host both nights we went. Come on down to Phelanies, enjoy an evening of relaxation and catching up with friends. We came to Phelanies with our book club and we pleased with the greeting, ambiance and the service we received. Everyone ordered mixed drinks and were quite happy with their concoctions. They have unusual liquors such as Absinthe, Creme de Menthe (sp), various whisky and vodka brands, and different varieties of gin. The lighting is dark and the seating is comfortable. I only get be this establishment a "3" because I ordered a hot buttered rum, and was expecting a certain mixture of rum, spices, butter and sugar that my father, a bartender, would make. What I got was hot rum with a layer of melted butter on top. When I brought up my memory of hot buttered rum, I was told that I was mistaken and that this was a true hot buttered rum. It was not good. Otherwise, we were happy with drinks and would go back.

Total last minute trip to Montrose and this place was highly recommended. My husband and I went and were blown away by the service, atmosphere and the drinks were delish. I would highly recommend stopping in here. The passion emulated from the staff. Thanks for a fun evening. I would definitely go back.

This place is great! Drinks and service was amazing. I was passing through town and was initially going to the brewery but seen the sign for this place. I recommend both places.

My husband brought me here as a surprise!! He said he had somewhere to take me besides bowling for a date night and I couldn't believe it because there's no where to go in Montrose! He made me memorize this crazy phrase (because it was the password to get in) that night and I had no idea why or what was up his sleeve. I didn't even know what a Speak Easy was. My husband said the look on my face was priceless when the guy opened the little gate for the password and I had to repeat the phrase. He let us in this little room and told us to wait for a minute and he'd come back and get us. I still at this time had no idea what was going on until I started reading the signs on the wall and looking at the cool old pictures. He let us in and served us champagne before we even got all the way in - how cool! Then you walk into this super cute 1920s bar! The service and drinks were great! Mondo and Dave were super fun to talk to, very personable & friendly, and knew their drinks! It was an awesome night!! Super unique, fun, and relaxed place to go out for a drink! We will definitely be back!!

This is an awesome hidden treasure in Montrose. Drinks are great. Atmosphere is unique. Must try!!! Had the lemon drop and the daily special! New to town and very impressed....

One of the best bars I have ever experienced. Hosts are wonderful and menu and atmosphere is authentic to 1920's. You must put this on your to do list while in Colorado!

This is the dumbest establishment I've ever had the displeasure of attending. The staff is beyond rude and incompetent. You aren't allowed to get up from your seats. They shove different groups of girls in the tiny space near the entrance just because they're shallow and then expect said girls to not be uncomfortable nor talk over each other. The drinks are BS (they don't use bourbon OR rye in their whiskey cocktails i.e. manhattans or old fashions) let alone ask what you'd prefer. They don't offer water. They don't notice empty glasses. Literally horrendous.
