While the new location doesn't have the stunning, up close view of Mt. Hood, it's a much larger tasting room with lots of seating and picnic tables outside along the actual Phelps creek So it's picturesque in a different way.
Previously the Viento Wine space, Phelps Creek recently took over the A-Frame structure located on Country Club Road. There is easy access off I-84 exit 62 making it the perfect first or last stop for a day of wine tasting In Hood River. Inside the two story slanted ceiling allows for lots of natural light, with wooden beams, walls and bar bringing the outside in With these natural elements. The fun modern light fixture and streamlined aesthetic gives a mid-century vibe, which I love.
They have plans to open up the loft area to create a space for musicians so they can have live music. Yes, please! I already love hanging here and live music will just add to the already wonderful atmosphere.
Their tasting menu has several whites and I particularly liked the Rosé of Pinot Noir, a delightful wine with hints of Cabernet, good for drinking any time. Light and refreshing. I also enjoyed their Pinot Noir which was very smooth. Typically a Pinot isn't big enough for me, but theirs had some good body and I really enjoyed it.
Friends of mine share the last name Phelps so I bought a bottle of the Pinot for them, knowing they would love both the name and wine! And they did!
Service is very friendly, knowledgeable with no pretentiousness. It's one of the things I love so much about the wineries in the Columbia River Gorge area, both the WA and OR sides; it's a more casual and relaxed experience.
Phelps Creek is a great place to hang out and enjoy some really good wine. They are planning on offering some charcuterie plates but at the moment, it's just wine. you are welcome to bring your own picnic food, which I actually prefer and appreciate.
Definitely make this a stop on your wine tasting or Hood River adventures.
