What a great place to spend an afternoon. The people are fantastic characters, the wine is superb and the estate is breathtaking. Totally worth the drive out as a stand alone destination, but in case you want to make a weekend of it, you’ve got the rest of fabulous Hood River minutes away.

Google
Small winery in Hood River, Their own grapes, small batches, wonderful fragrance and flavor. Was part of a small reunion with people from California, Washington, Oregon - they provided a delicious lunch and we did a tasting. Great experience. Thank you Phelps Creek

Yelp
Great friendly service and good food and wines. Maybe not the most picturesque place being right off the interstate but the back patio was comfortable to sit on on a hot day in the shade. Flight of 5 wines $20 waved when buying 2 bottles. Great sale going on with 50% off when buying a case. We mixed and matched that case with 4 different varieties we liked...awesome deal!

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim, amazing space! Got the grilled cheese and ham, with corn chowder-fantastic! The food came out fast. Worth the drive!

Yelp
While the new location doesn't have the stunning, up close view of Mt. Hood, it's a much larger tasting room with lots of seating and picnic tables outside along the actual Phelps creek So it's picturesque in a different way. Previously the Viento Wine space, Phelps Creek recently took over the A-Frame structure located on Country Club Road. There is easy access off I-84 exit 62 making it the perfect first or last stop for a day of wine tasting In Hood River. Inside the two story slanted ceiling allows for lots of natural light, with wooden beams, walls and bar bringing the outside in With these natural elements. The fun modern light fixture and streamlined aesthetic gives a mid-century vibe, which I love. They have plans to open up the loft area to create a space for musicians so they can have live music. Yes, please! I already love hanging here and live music will just add to the already wonderful atmosphere. Their tasting menu has several whites and I particularly liked the Rosé of Pinot Noir, a delightful wine with hints of Cabernet, good for drinking any time. Light and refreshing. I also enjoyed their Pinot Noir which was very smooth. Typically a Pinot isn't big enough for me, but theirs had some good body and I really enjoyed it. Friends of mine share the last name Phelps so I bought a bottle of the Pinot for them, knowing they would love both the name and wine! And they did! Service is very friendly, knowledgeable with no pretentiousness. It's one of the things I love so much about the wineries in the Columbia River Gorge area, both the WA and OR sides; it's a more casual and relaxed experience. Phelps Creek is a great place to hang out and enjoy some really good wine. They are planning on offering some charcuterie plates but at the moment, it's just wine. you are welcome to bring your own picnic food, which I actually prefer and appreciate. Definitely make this a stop on your wine tasting or Hood River adventures.

Yelp
A perfect setting for a summer wine tasting. The rose and rieslings were absolutely the highlights. Highly recommend enjoying them on a quick stroll through the vines.

Krissy H.

Yelp
They were very nice but it took 2 1/2 hours to do a wine tasting wasting . 3 other tables were in and out before us and took 20 mins to cash out. This took half our day on the fruit loop tour. Wine was petty good it was a nice a nice place and clean

Yelp
Gorgeous winery, tasty wines, and a stellar view of Mt Hood! I happened to find this place recommended as one of the top 5 places to view Mt. Hood and wow was it worth the drive from Portland! They had a ton of wines to try by the glass, and if all the outdoor seats are taken you are welcome to walk around the parking lot and edge of the golf course & enjoy your wine. My hubby and I snuggled up on the grass and just watched the golfers and marveled at Mt Hood. Incredible! My fav wine was the rose by far, but honestly I enjoyed everything I tried.

Yelp
woof woof, running down the freeway, caught food and wine out of the edge of my eye. ran to the next exit and back tracked to the most amazing winery. had the flight and all the wine were great, the waitress was great too. wonderful setting inside and out. if you are near hood river this is the place to be, so many tree that I ran out of pee, waggie tail wagie tail and a bark bark

Gabe T.

Yelp
Three of us went for the wine tasting flight ($15). All five wines tasted great, particularly the Riesling. If you buy $30 worth of wine the tasting fee is waived, and we ended up with a bottle of the Riesling to take home ($24), plus another glass for good measure ($8)...so took care of that! Solid Pinot Noir as well. The views are great, clear views of Mt. Hood from the surrounding golf course. Overall lovely experience, would definitely come back.

Carolyn J.

Yelp
Outdoor fire pit seating, sans flame on this lovely spring day. Thanks for the flight, Nick, and encouragement to stay open, always looking for a great bottle. Loved the reisling

Samantha Q.

Yelp
They service was amazing our waitress was very educational about the wines we were tasting. Recommend asking for Elena for service. She created an amazing setting for us and was very knowledgeable!

Alexa T.

Yelp
This was one of our first stops in the area. I was pleasantly surprised with the wines, especially seeing where the tasting room was located. It's a small tasting room on a beautiful property. Unfortunately, we went on an overcast and cloudy day and were unable to be outside or take in any of the surroundings. However, the wines were quite nice. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were my favorites overall.

Christine W.

Yelp
Absolute perfection! Our picnic and wine tasting at the Homestead was incredible. Each wine was better than the last - we purchased an entire case! The picnic basket of cheese, crackers, meat, and snacks far exceeded our expectations, and it was far more generous than the standard in the area. The vineyard is the most picturesque setting - it rivals any California or west Oregon vineyard. The hosts welcomed us with such hospitality and kindness - by far our best visit in the Gorge, and would recommend to all!

Michaela S.

Yelp
The picnic experience is truly amazing! Our group enjoyed the views, wine and picnic for an unforgettable afternoon!

Yelp
This was our second stop on our wine tour with G-Limos. We secured several tables outside on the patio where we enjoyed our wine tasting with a beautiful view of majestic Mt. Hood. Our merry gang of 13 unanimously agreed, this place was wonderful. The Sauvignon Blanc stole the show. Several of us bought bottles and many of us bought a glass following all the tastings that were offered. It was divine. Erik, our driver from G-Limos bought a plate of artichoke dip for the table. It was served with warm pita triangles and was delicious. Thank you Erik! With the exception of the dessert wine, I enjoyed all of the wines immensely, even the Pinot Noir. I can see myself making an effort to return to the Hood River area in order to come back to this winery and it's kick-ass Sauvignon Blanc. 2014 - Review # 67

Yelp
This place has the most delicious white wines! In particular, their award-winning Riesling was amazing. The server working was awesome and friendly and went off menu a bit to allow us to taste a few extra wines. The place itself is small and does sit on a parking lot, but is cute, has a view of the mountain, and a great atmosphere. We visited a few other wineries in the area with nicer views, but enjoyed Phelps Creek the most just because of the experience and amazing service.

Yelp
Settled on Phelps Creek as a first stop after reading lots of different reviews (thanks fellow Yelpers). Their wine tastings are $10 a person and they base the selection off of a seasonal menu they create with 6 different wines. If you decide to buy a bottle of anything, they waive the $10 tasting fee. We were pretty much the only people there--it was a Wednesday, so not entirely surprising. The gentleman who helped us out was super friendly and knowledgeable. He told us he's lived in three different wine country areas including Hood River and Napa Valley. During the tasting he explained that Phelps Creek wines are unlike other Oregon wines because they are made in the French style. He was a little bit socially awkward at times, but that was no big deal. He ended up pouring us a ton of extra samples of wines that weren't on the tasting menu. We ended up buying ourselves a bottle of Becky's Pinot Noir. I have to say it was quite a hard decision because we genuinely enjoyed every single wine we tried.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Great people and fantastic wine! If you're in or traveling through Hood River you really need to stop by the tasting room. If you're not in the area (like me), don't hesitate to place an online order - you won't be disappointed! Bob & Cheryl Queen Creek, AZ

K.E. B.

Yelp
Pinot Gris & the earthy Pinot Noir are worth stopping for. It's lovely and the hostess Lisa was knowledgeable. Check it out for sure!

Kerri G.

Yelp
We were looking up where we could see great views of Mt. Hood and this place popped up. On a clear day, you can get a nice shot of the Mountain. Now we're traveling in March so not the best weather. It had been raining non-stop but for some reason today cleared up and the sun came out. We were so glad we stopped here. We not only had a very informative wine tasting by Nick, but it was a nice way to enjoy the afternoon after visiting Mt. Hood. If you're a fan of reds, their Pinot Noir is delicious. Nick also was very knowledgable not only about the wines of course, but also gave us some great tips of sightseeing in the nearby area.

Rachel H.

Yelp
Friendly tasting room right off a golf course with knowledgable, friendly staff. Featuring wines from a fourth generation female French winemaker, Alexandrine Roy (name envy!) this is a nice place to taste and enjoy learning about some classic French processes for making wine using Hood River fruit. As a winery experience though, it was a little dissapointing to not be on property along with the vines but instead in a public golf coarse right next to a brew pub and alongside a gigantic parking lot. The Yelp photos of winery dogs and hay rides are a little misleading to the experience we had in the tasting room at Phelps Creek. (If you are looking for more of that on-property winery tasting experience, which I love, try a visit to nearby Syncline or Domaine Pouillon across the river in Lyle.) Still, good wine and very hospitable and knowledgable tasting room staff who were kind too -- at one point, they went to their car to grab a hiking book and to share tips about a local waterfall hike. A personalized and friendly experience, despite not being near the winery and the wine making process itself.

James F.

Yelp
Phelps creek vineyards offers up these wines; Unoaked Chardonnay, Reserve Chardonnay, Oakridge Gewrztraminer, Le Petit Pinot Noir, Becky's Cuvee Pinot Noir, Judith's Reserve Pinot Noir, Brimstone Red Wine, Celilo Merlot Nice smaller tasting room on a golf course, with nice views of Mt. Hood. Phelps creek is a nice winery, I love the Brimstone Red. Worth a visit if your in town.

Yelp
We visited Bob and Lynnette and the staff of Phelps Creek Vineyards during a month long RV trip. The visit was the highlight of the whole trip for me and that is saying something. From the best wine coming out of the Columbia Gorge, to the spectacular views and amazing knowledge and hospitality, I cannot give anything but the highest possible rating. Just simply first class all the way.

Ellen H.

Yelp
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting with Nick. He did a fantastic job guiding us through the tasting, highlighting the flavor profiles and nuisances of each wine. I would highly recommend this gem. Fun whites and reds can be found at this tasting room. They are one of the only wineries offering outdoor tastings during COVID and they are open 7 days a week; 12-5pm.

Heather J.

Yelp
Great little wine tasting room at the golf course! Friendly, personable, knowledgeable Nick was the perfect host. Enjoyed sitting out side by the fire table- will be back

Maria G.

Yelp
We found Phelps Creek Vineyard's tasting room along the Fruit Loop. The guy pouring wine was very friendly he gave us a lot of good information about the wine made in the area. He even pulled out a few maps for us and he went into detail regarding the difference between the wine on the Oregon side of the river vs. the wine on the Washington side of the river. He gave us some good suggestions, other wineries to visit in the area, and told us about the personalities of some of the wine makers. We shared a tasting and bought a bottle of wine. We were able to take the wine and wine glasses to the restaurant next door. We had a glass of wine with our lunch and took the rest of the bottle with us. Phelps Creek is definitely worth a stop.

Lisa H.

Yelp
The wine tasting is the best part of this experience. The tasting room is not physically on the vineyard property and is a bit small. We both enjoy their Pinot Gris and like to stop by their on our way home to buy a bottle or two. The service is friendly and they like to engage in conversation. We're definitely going back.

Juliet W.

Yelp
This was a stop on our Columbia River Gorge honeymoon adventure- the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable! The wine was great! We can't wait to open up our bottle with friends and family in Sacramento!

Michelle N.

Yelp
Wow just wow! We purchased a two hour tour called the "Ultimate wine experience" and boy was it killer! We have wine tasted for about ten years now and have never had an experience like this. The cost is $99.00 per person and worth EVERY penny. Here's the skinny. First, we went to their tasting room at the golf course. We were able to choose a glass of wine, and sat outside sipping on a glass each of their Cuvée. This wine is incredible. Next, Lynette picked us up in her air conditioned van (it was wicked hot) and took us to the vineyard. There was a shaded area at the top of the hill where we enjoyed tasting a handful of different whites and enjoyed the views and her story. Next, we went to the barrel room where we sampled wines right out of the barrel. SO amazing! We got to see the process and how they label the bottles (it was label time). Their Cuvee is so amazing. They actually fly this chick out from France who makes the wine. I mean who does that? Wow! Lastly, we went to the main house where we sat out on the deck with a jaw dropping view. We sampled several reds, which were paired with different types of foods. Hazelnuts, mushrooms, meats and cheeses. Everything was delicious! We loved so many of the wines we purchased a case, which also scored us 25% off. If you are looking for something special to do in the gorge we highly recommend splurging on this. Request Lynette for an extra special experience from the hilarious Canadian! Thank you so much for making our day!

Anthony K.

Yelp
This place had great Pinot Noir. I thought their prices were decent. I just didnt care too much for the setting Felt like I was in the pro-shop at a golf course. Do Not let that stop you though from going and thrying their marvelous wines. Just my personal yelp. The woman that was pouring was very nice and informative. I would go back if it was on my route, but maybe just not out of my way. we did buy two bottles.

Vicki E.

Yelp
We took the Ultimate Wine Country Experience Tour with Sydney and Julia. It was truly a treat! They were the best tour guides and the wines and views were fabulous! They had the perfect pairings for the wines they chose for us to taste. The pinot noirs were especially great! Our party of 6 took several bottles home to enjoy and one couple joined the wine club! It was a wonderful day at Phelps Creek Vineyard! Thank you!

Devin V.

Yelp
This was our favorite by far of our winery day in Hood River. I actually tried a chardonnay I liked! The staff was incredibly helpful, and I left feeling like I learned a lot from our short stay.

Kristen M.

Yelp
Amongst the orchards and in the shadow of Mt. Hood, we found this wonderful winery. We have visited many times with friends and have always had a great time tasting. The staff is very knowledgable and passionate about their products, especially Becky. After having so many positive experiences, we booked a vineyard tour for my 30th birthday. We had a wonderful afternoon learning about the growing and fermentation process. The views were impressive, along with great barrel tastings. We enjoyed a tasty lunch with more wine pairings out on the family's patio. Even those in our group who didn't like wine enjoyed this experience. Every time we come we leave feeling like we made new friends. Can't wait for our next visit! Side note: the Rose' from Pinot Noir can't be missed!

Jennifer P.

Yelp
They had a lot of tasty wines, and the ladies running the joint were very happy, smily and friendly, which was a nice change of pace after the last tasting we had. I really liked most of their wines, but we did have one hiccup: I checked in on Yelp, and up popped a promotion for two to taste their ice wine on the house. I showed them the deal and they didn't know "how that got on there," they discussed what to do behind the scenes, and seemed hesitant to allow us to use it. Then they "forgot" to pour it for us until I reminded them at the end of our main tasting. It was okay, I thought the price must have been through the roof since they seemed so concerned about it, but it wasn't any higher than their other wines (maybe it was a members only thing?). Either way, hiccup aside, we enjoyed the view and the basic tasting and purchased a few bottles. The Lynette Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Blanc were my favorites.

Vinny P.

Yelp
Definitely worth the stop for the view of Mt.Hood, but purchase wisely as the bottles are overly expensive. 2 bottles of the standard Pinot noir and one bottle of a different label red blend came to $90. That's for 2 decent bottles which would cost about $20 at a liquor store and the other was a screw cap which could have been bought for about $12. Tourist mistake. We weren't displeased with the wine but with all of the other lovely grapes and superior wines in the area for the money we should have did more research.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Of the two wineries we visited this one definitely had better and more knowledgeable service. I enjoy an occasional dessert wine so it was nice the tasting included one. I am still waiting to hear back if I won the contest to name their new chocolate lab...

Neal C.

Yelp
Very friendly, good wines and many different types, with a nice view of Mt. Hood. There's also a golf course there, along with some putting greens and so you can rent some clubs and practice a bit.

Corey K.

Yelp
The wines were mediocre for the price and the seating is facing a parking lot. If the tasting was free and the wines were under $25 I would have felt better about the experience.

Danielle And Eric H.

Yelp
If you're looking for an amazing view of Mt Hood this is the place to be!

Sarah S.

Yelp
We stopped in quickly on our day trip to Hood River! It's a cute little inside that was packed but cozy. Wine tastings are $10, and is waived if you buy a bottle. We enjoyed the tastings of 5 wines, the Syrah being the best. People were friendly and you have a view of Mt Hood! Id recommend stopping here on your wine tour ;)

Peg T.

Yelp
Excellent wine, the best we tried in Hood River. The tasting room was great, the staff took time to talk about each wine and were so down to earth and friendly.

Rondi V.

Yelp
Visited the winery on 4th of July & was looking forward to a tasting. I've been to Phelps Creek before, and the people there are very pleasant & wines are good. Unfortunately for us, there was an extended family with two small children in the "cozy" tasting room, and the kids were fussy. Didn't feel like listening to screaming children while trying to enjoy some wine on an otherwise beautiful day, so we left. But not before getting "judgy" looks from what I presume were the grand-parents :-| Newsflash, it's a winery & tasting room, NOT a kinder care! Save your judgement for somewhere else.

Chris T.

Yelp
Pros: Nice woman pouring wine tastings Cons: lack luster view, as it's on a golf course, over priced wines which are not competitive with nearby vineyards in quality or price. I'd recommend passing on this winery and going to Mt. Hood winery instead--great view, better wine, better price.

Columbia Gorge Wine R.

Yelp
Truly a favorite. Just go here now. Order the Chardonnay. Order the Pinot Noir. Prepare to be blown away.

Marisa S.

Yelp
This is another vineyard I am a club member. I like several of their wines. The Unoaked Chardonnay, and the Mt. Defiance Pinot Gris are my favorites in the white. My husband loves the Gewurztraminer. For the reds, I love the Mt. Defiance Brimstone and the Le Petit Pinot Noir. I am very upset that the Dessert wine is sold out. It is delicious.

DougandJanine J.

Yelp
We have a wine tour business called The Vine Travelers and we brought a private group of 4 to Phelps Creek for one of their private tours of the vineyard. What an experience this was! We highly recommend this and it seperates you from the hustle and bustle of the tasting room for an up close and personal excursion. Our guests all felt like VIP'S! Audrey was very informative and we got to enjoy wonderful wines, cheeses, nuts, and a warmed right out of the oven Pumpkin crumble while sitting on a covered deck with a spectacular view of the vineyard and Washingon hills. This was during the crush and we want to experience all the seasons now! Thank you Phelps Creek!!

Emma V.

Yelp
I went with a group of friends. We were the only ones there. They were pouring 5 wines with a $10 tasting fee. The man working there was nice but sounded like he was reading a script. The wines were average. No water or snacks offered.

Jan H.

Yelp
This was our second favorite of the 10 or so wineries we tried during our first ever visit to Hood River. Loved their pinots and even took a leap of faith in buying an untasted 49.00 one to try later. This winery looks to get even better over time.

Mary J.

Yelp
On a golf course and a nice setting. Small tasting room with pretty views of the course. Enjoyed the Pinot Gris....and also didnt mind the Pinot. Even though we are not normally Pinot drinkers. We just happen to stop here on a day that they were doing food pairings. That made it a little more fun as well.

Amy R.

Yelp
This is the best winery tour we've come across in Northwestern Oregon since we've been looking in all of 2014. Tour guide and winery owner son Toby educated and delighted our group of 10, with a fascinating tour of the vineyards and wine production system. We ended with an intimate wine and cheese social on his family's deck overlooking the valley. And the wines were outstanding -- a complaint not to be left for last necessarily. We highly recommend this quality and personal Hood River wine tour.
