Review on the Finca Sophia Tasting Experience – A Coffee Lover’s Dream!
The Finca Sophia Tasting Experience was truly unforgettable! From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for something special. The atmosphere was intimate and welcoming, and Phil were incredibly knowledgeable, guiding me through the journey of one of the world’s most exclusive coffees.
Opting for the private tasting allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience. Tasting the coffee at different time intervals truly showcased its evolving complexity, as it cooled, the bright citrus and floral notes softened into a delicate, tea-like body with layers of depth. One of the most striking flavours was the distinct lychee note, adding a beautifully sweet and slightly tropical dimension to the cup. Every sip offered something new, making the experience both fascinating and rewarding.
Having the tasting led by Phil himself was an added bonus. His expertise and passion for coffee were evident as he walked me through every step of the process, from the meticulous flash-freezing of the beans to preserve their quality to the incredible effort taken in transporting them. Learning that Sebastian personally flew to Panama to pick up the beans, ensuring they arrived in pristine condition, highlighted the dedication behind every detail of this experience.
Another standout element was the custom cup and plate used for the tasting, beautifully crafted by local artist Quin Cheung of Quinspired Ceramics. The design complemented the tasting perfectly, adding an extra layer of artistry and thoughtfulness to the experience.
Tasting a coffee sourced from the prestigious Best of Panama auction is an incredibly rare opportunity, and I feel fortunate to have experienced it in such a carefully curated setting. If you're a coffee enthusiast or someone who appreciates exceptional craftsmanship, this is an absolute must-try. Highly recommended!
