"Munich's Cultural Center Gasteig is Munich 's cultural center. It hosts the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Richard Strauss Conservatory, the Volkshochschule (continuing education courses) and the large municipal library which has a section of English language books. There are a variety of events happening there daily from concerts, to lectures, to book readings, to theatrical performances. Most of the performances are conducted in German, but the musical performances are something that everyone can enjoy. There is also a cafe, a restaurant, and a few small unique shops on site."

We were here with #Bigfoot and #Littlefeet for the last classical concert before the Gasteig is closed to be extensively remodeled. There is now a lot of dust in this building, which in the past housed great artists and orchestras. Today it is dusty and its sanitary facilities are also getting on in years. The concert in the main hall was wonderful. We are curious to see when the renovation and conversion work will begin and how sustainable the future Gasteig will be.

Beautiful concert hall. American oak everywhere. Acoustics are good although it feels large. Not very intimate. They are planning a large renovation. Home of the Munich Philharmonic.

By far the most disrespectful personnel, I have ever encountered was at the Dali Spellbound exhibition. The employee at the main hall is screaming at people to sit only in the first row, as it is “forbidden” to sit higher (and therefore make better pictures). He is rude and even flashes a flashlight in people’s faces when they ignore them. He even threatens to call the police if one doesn’t move. If I could give zero stars I would!

An excellent place for an orchestra. The acoustics are superb for the whole ensemble. For an opera voice could be struggling, but any good tenor fills out with the voice. A jewel in Munich.
