Philippe Chow is one of my go-to spots in the city. The food is always solid, and the flavors never disappoint. Their lychee martini is a must-try, and the chicken satay is easily one of the best I’ve had. The lettuce wraps are a great light appetizer, but my favorite dish is their Peking duck—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. If you’re celebrating, the cotton candy is a fun touch and makes for a great photo moment. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is usually good. Definitely a reliable choice for a great night out!

This is Philippe Chow's original NYC location. We first tried what is now a chain in Washington DC and absolutely loved the experience. While the Upper East location isn't as nice or new as DC's decor wise, the food was fantastic none the less. Philippe Chow is one of the best fancy Chinese restaurants in either city!

Everything was outstanding from start to finish. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good, super tasty, none of us had a single complaint. Will definitely come back again!

This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. I'm a picky eater, but everything was wonderful. When I first entered, I used the restroom. I noticed there was a candle in front of the soap dispenser. I'm clumsy and generally look out for hazards as a result. It made me nervous. After requesting that the soap and candle be swapped, to avoid any potential accident, they fixed it immediately. The service was on point. My table mates shared the peking chicken and I went for the tofu and mixed vegetable stir fry, but with black bean sauce. I cannot say how the chicken tasted as a vegetarian, although I tried the wrapping with cucumber, scallion, and sauce. It was delicious. My tofu and vegetables were great. The tofu was extremely soft and flavorful. Before we received our main courses, we had appetizers. I must say that all of the appetizers were incredible. Noteworthy items for me were the scallion pancakes and cauliflower bites. If you have an issue with salt intake, you might want to ask for less salt on the cauliflower as they are quite salty. I don't often come to fancy places, let alone a place as fancy as this. I like to make fun of how they refill your water glass so quickly. This time, I got less than a minute on how long it took to fill an empty glass. Mike got to my sister's water glass at 45 seconds!! When we came last year it was around 3 minutes for that server back then. Speaking of water, make sure to specify whether you would like tap water or bottled water. We thought the bottles were refilled, but were made aware that every new bottle cost $11 when Mike gave us one "on the house." Thankfully, when we asked for another bottle taken off because of the confusion, they not only comped one more, but another one on top of that. I was pleasantly surprised by the generosity in their service. If you enjoy Chinese cuisine, this is a great place to go. They truly elevate the experience. I felt like a prince.

We got the 16-course New Year's meal, and wow, just wow, it was immaculate. While it is expensive, it is fantastic. The Dumplings and kung pao shrimp were terrific. Also, the atmosphere is unique in a good way. I loved it. If you are looking for fine Asian dining in the Upper East Side area, this is a must-see.

Philippe Chow was a great experience. A friend and I went for NY restaurant week and each got the $60 dinner. We ordered the chicken satay with peanut sauce and the vegetable lo mein for starters which were delicious. My favorite was the chicken with the buttery peanut sauce. We also then ordered the crispy beef and chicken for entrees and also very good. The portions are very generous. The red velvet cake and chocolate mousse for dessert were incredible. We also ordered the lychee martini, first time I've tried it and was wonderful! I would definitely go back to Philippe Chow with friends or family. Very nice atmosphere and amazing food!

I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants in NYC, but without a doubt, Philippe Chow is the best one I’ve had the pleasure of dining at. I tried the chicken dumplings, chicken satay, and the spicy fried rice paired with sweet and sour salmon. Every dish was exceptional, and the portions were perfect. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for top-notch Chinese cuisine in New York.

The best Chinese restaurant in NYC. The manager Henri was a gem, he treated us so well and curated our entire order for our group. He also was very kind with all the waiters and introduced us to our servers as if we were long time friends--they all came to sing my mom Happy Birthday. A very welcoming surprise! P.s. order the beef skewers and the duck!

Such amazing food and atmosphere! The restaurant has a romantic vibe, making it perfect for a date night. Every time I visit, it's always a delightful experience, and the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Came here for my best friends birthday and we had a great time. The service was impeccable and our server Michael, was super attentive, helpful, and kind. I had the hot and sour soup and the crispy duck salad. Both were amazing and super tasty, especially the duck! We sat in the back room and ambiance felt super intimate and I would highly recommend it for a large group.

I have been to Philippe chow over 100 times since I first discovered it in 2018 and I can say each visit I feel nothing but welcomed by all the employees. The quality of the food it 10/10 and can honestly say I have yet to have a bad experience or bad dish at their uptown location. They play amazing music to compliment the dark, lowkey atmosphere. Shoutout to whoever has their phone hooked up to the Bluetooth. The must eats IMO are : Chicken Satays ( peanut sauce on the side ) , scallion pancakes, Chicken lettuce wraps, House mignon, Crispy Duck, Fried Rice / White Rice ( depends on preference ) There are other great dishes, but these are my go-to's. Each time I visit, whether it is a Private Party in their VIP Basement ( Wine Cellar) or sitting upstairs, Christy, Philippes Manager always makes sure all members of my party are accommodated.

After seeing a video on TikTok of a beautifully cooked duck being sliced, I knew this was a place to immediately put on my "must eat" list. I am absolutely obsessed with peking duck and was happy when I snagged a reservation. Here's the thing - it wasn't busy at all during lunch. I loved that because it was quiet and made for a great escape from the New York noise. The table next to us order the peking duck and it was huge. Definitely met for 3-5 people. Since it was just the two of us, we opted for the crispy duck instead, which was incredible. Service was friendly and attentive. Let's talk about the food: Steamed Dumpling Sampler: 5/5. I love steamed dumplings and being able to try multiple flavors was such a treat. Highly recommend this sampler if you are indecisive. Crispy Duck: 10000/10. Did not disappoint. As I type about it, my mouth is drooling. A must order if the peking duck is too big! Bok Choy: 5/5. There was the right amount of garlic on these. They were delicious and the perfect side to go along with the meal. There is also rice, and thin tortilla-like wraps to eat with the meal. All delicious. Would dine here again!

I can see the appeal of this place for some people. It just wasn't for me. This is a very inauthentic higher end Chinese. Think of PF Changs but upscale. Food is so sweet here. And I mean everything. Even things that should not be sweet like sea bass was like eating dessert. So, if that's what you enjoy you will like this. But don't expect any real Chinese dishes here. Service was disappointing, especially the pacing of food. They brought us our appetizer and soup. Then that was followed by 1 dish. Okay, the tables are small so maybe they were going to bring one dish at a time which is fine. But no. With one main dish served we waited over 1/2 hour then all the remaining dishes came out at once. That's just poor management. Ambiance was hip and modern. Tables are a little too close and tight but okay it's NYC so I can accept that. They also had cute panda chopstick holders. Anyway, if you like sweet, inauthentic, fancy Chinese food this place is for you. It just wasn't what I am looking for when I go out for Chinese. Finally o took an extra star off because apparently they just automatically charge 20% gratuity even for table of just 4 people.

I went here for my birthday and its a pretty solid place Overall experience 4/5: I think the service is great, and everything in general feels like an elevated experience. Food: 4/5, now I had the chicken and broccoli and though it had a good flavor I didnt eat much of the chicken because it had that weird mystery meat texture that neighborhood chinese restaurants have so that was very shocking however my friend ordered the kung pao chicken so I ate her meal instead and it was very good. Im really disappointed about that chicken and broccoli though, they need to do better. The vegetable fried rice was my favorite thing there and so delicious!!! Drinks: 3/5 it was not bad it just tasted more like a glass of champagne than a cocktail but my friend's blueberry mojito was very delicious. Service: 4/5 but trending towards 3.5 because the wait staff is so aggressive! As soon as you put a dish down they are running to take it from you before you're even finished! And the attention to detail needs work because if you are drinking sparkling water and it's half empty they run and fill your glass up with regular water ruining the whole drink! This happened 3 separate times and we were not always quick enough to catch them in mid conversation. Other then that out server was very hospitable and friendly Ambiance: place is pretty, but way too dark therefore terrible for pictures. I actually think it would make for a great date night and less of a birthday dinner venue. But overall a lovely experience.

The staff is lovely. The food was ok. We were seated next to the real housewives of NJ (wannabes) and they were screaming throughout the entire dinner. I can't imagine running back to this place. Every couple who were seated next to us asked to be moved yet nobody picked up on the problem? Exhausting.

I LOVE PHILIPPES! Have been coming here for 20 years since they opened and I love this place! One of my favorite restaurants. Big shoutout to the manager Christy for always giving us the best service and the best table. Ambiance and service always top notch

Friends guided us to this establishment- it didn't disappoint. Great cocktails and service. The food was yum and served with a smile. (The green beans were my favorite)

I came here during restaurant week with a friend in a Saturday night with no reservation and it was not too crowded. We both had the same thing which was the veggie lo mein, veggie fried rice, and the crispy beef as well as the red velvet cake and chocolate cake for dessert. The lo mein was the star of the courses and had the perfect amount of sauce which wasn't too much. The fried rice was missing a bit of flavor for me and the crispy beef was a bit hard to chew through but still tasty. The ambiance was really pretty and we got some great photos. Would definitely try it again.

Food was great, and the service was impeccable! Our server Riland helped capitalize on the experience with genuine and attentive assistance. I'm certainly coming back!

Very mediocre food service wasn't that great and not worth the effort to make it worth it to eat here

Dined here 3 day's ago.. we were the first one's thru the door when they opened, we took a few minutes to decide what we would be ordering, we didn't eat till about 4pm, they opened @3pm. The food was average and I was not impressed it was regular food to me. The ambience was nice, cold air kept coming in every time the door opened so I never really warmed up to room temp. Overall I expected our dining experience to be better.

We had a wonderful experience here last night. The ambiance is casual and romantic. They also have Amazing food , we tried different items to see what we liked best. For starters we tried the Chicken Satay and the Chicken Lettuce Wrap, I preferred the Chicken Satay. The entrees we selected was the Crispy Beef; my favorite of course. My husband had the Bejin Chicken (Similar to Changs Spicy Chicken) it was okay. For sides we had the fried rice , green beans, and noodles. Of course the noodles was my absolute favorite ! And last but not least for desserts we had the red velvet cake (had a coconut taste, I wasn't a fan. I prefer cream cheese instead) and the the chocolate cake which was pretty good. I can't remember the server name but he help make some great recommendations. And the drinks are delicious too, especially the watermelon margaritas; it's so refreshing and good. I will definitely be back again the next time I'm visiting NYC !

Fancy-ish Chinese food in midtown East. Got the shrimp lo mein and it was average and overpriced to be honest. My friend got the seabass which we both enjoyed. The lychee martini was okay but had too much pulp on the top.

Delicious and accommodating staff. Everything I ate was so good, we got the vegetable lo mein, chicken satay, filet mignon with string beans, Beijing chicken and red velvet cake. I got the white sangria which was one of the best I've had. My husband got the lychee martini, if you like creamy drinks highly recommend that!

This is one of our favorite restaurants in the city! the food is always a 10/10. The crispy cauliflower is our absolute favorite. Rilind was extremely personable and friendly and made excellent recommendations. We will definitely be back.

I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this place. Based on the reviews, I thought I wasn't going to but this place is still the GIRL. Been around forever and still thriving. Must get the duck (obvi) and lychee martini was so yum. Lettuce wraps were also a must get. Portions are big so share a few plates between your group. Obvi expect a little bit of a touristy crowd compared to other midtown restaurants in the area but for the food it's worth it.

I came here with all my boys to celebrate my birthday. This place is lit the food the drinks are type fire. My waiter had some good knowledge he told us to get some chicken saute it was straight gas. Definitely coming back.

Went to this restaurant last night to grab a quick bite. It wasn't planned upon arrival. The hostess at the door very pleasant no problem, but the young lady that walked us to the table kind of gave us a weird look she looked. I said hello and smiled, she didn't reply instead looked me up and down. On a brighter note my server Oscar was excellent. I couldn't ask for anything more so pleasant so inviting, so accommodating. as of for my food. It was top-tier five stars I had the perking duck with the shrimp fried rice. for drinks I had the watermelon margarita and a summer light margarita both were good.

My cousins and I had a ladies night out and our experience was beyond what I imagined. Our server Rilind K was amazing!! He explained what every food item was going to be coming out and gave us options and choices for both the food and the drink menu and he did not disappoint at all!! I recommend the Golden Tasting and Bulleit Burbon just as Rilind K did. We enjoyed ourselves, the atmosphere, the additional servers that assisted Rilind K and we even had 2 visits from the manager/owner which was very pleasant. It started to snow which made the ambiance of the restaurant glow even more, no lie!! My cousins and I had a great 1st experience this past Saturday evening and we will definitely be back!!

I went for 30th birthday and it was the best birthday imaginable! The manager Christy took such of our table and Lindy our server gave us top notch service. I highly suggest the green prawns and the chicken satay to start!

Dined here for restaurant week with a friend after. Visit to the met. The restaurant week deal was $45 for a 3 course meal which is a steal compared to the original menu. For appetizers we opted for the chicken satay and the chicken lettuce wraps. The portions were very generous and I really liked the lettuce wraps - we received maybe 8 lettuce wraps and a large pile of ground chicken with veggies and hoisin sauce to create our own lettuce wraps. The chicken satay peanut sauce was really tangy and sweet but aside from that the chicken could've used extra seasoning. For entrees we ordered the crispy beef and Beijing chicken with fried rice. Both were saucy and crispy but I don't think these two dishes particularly stood out for me. If I was paying full price I would think it was just average and nothing I would go out of my way for, but for the ambiance and price reduction I enjoyed it. For drinks the lychee martini was definitely a standout and I loved the coconut creme variation! For dessert the chocolate cake and red velvet was solid. Everything I had was solid and nothing was bad I my opinion, but I can see myself stopping by for appetizers and drinks if I come back.

Been to Philippe Upper East couple of time lately and I really really enjoyed the food and the service. The lychee martinis excellent, chicken satay amazing and the duck and filet mignon......., one of the best I ever had. Great ambiance and the people who take care of you friendly and very professional.

This review is based on our take out experience. We have dined here before and were craving some chicken satay. The food here is good and this being our first time getting take out from here we were very happy the quality remained. The time we waited for take out was average. I never get dessert but had a sweet tooth and ordered the peanut butter explosion! It was super good! The right amount of fudge and peanut butter. We also had honey glazed spare ribs, duck spring rolls, salt and pepper prawns, pork fried rice and kung pao chicken and crispy beef. Our only complaint is of the kung pao chicken. My husband didn't enjoy it. The flavors were a bit off. But overall pretty good food!

I love going to Philippe Chow as well as ordering from them. The food is always delicious and fresh and the service is incredible. You always feel like you're at home and are being taken care of. The ambiance is beautiful, with great music and a cozy yet sexy atmosphere. I have been coming here for many years and hope many more to come!

High class, Beijing style Chinese food right on the edge of Central Park south. There is a location of this restaurant further down on West 16th street, but this one is the original. Glitzy in decor, this is one restaurant I do not recommend coming in sweatpants, especially if you plan on stopping by during dinner. Wonton Soup The review begins in earnest with a soup I would eat anytime of year, whether it be 0 degrees or 100 degrees outside. The soup here is no exception. All the wontons, be them as they may (you only get maybe four to a serving), retain their texture and have good flavor. The rigidity of these things is important. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen these things fall apart. The clear broth they are served in is good too. Do yourself a favor and get the pork wontons over the chicken, if you are able to do so. Pork soup dumplings As I had tried some really good ones in Vancouver, I was hoping these would be right up as some of the best. Sadly, no. The whole "soup" spills out immediately when grabbed. The outsides were slightly undercooked, and the meat inside needs a bit more time to cook as well. Six of these things is a nice size, and the dipping sauce works well, but I needed firmness here and this one does not deliver when it comes to that. Chicken Satay Taking a small break from the Dim Sum-esque items, I got to trying what appears to be one of the most popular items in the restaurant, the Chicken Satay. This one had a lot of potential to be great, but the sauce it is just way too overpowering in taste, including its pungent smell. The chicken is a tad dry too. Still, looking back, I am happy I ordered these, because they set me up well for my final dish, the chicken flat noodles. Chicken flat noodles For my main entree, I got this, and I was really hoping to bring it on home with this entree. The portion size is generous, and the chicken here is beautifully cooked and tastes extraordinary. It literally melts like butter in your mouth. The noodles taste fresh and act like spools of ribbons working your way back to the esophagus to allow more of a savory experience. The sauce is a bit on the salty side, as I was going through plenty of water while eating this, but it still was great to eat. Conclusion For upscale Chinese, the value is great. Good portions and enough for two people to be satisfied or one really hungry person. The service was good too, as my water glass was full most of the time despite my heavy consumption of water. The prices are pretty good as well if planning to come here with a large group. I would come back for dinner, but recommend it for either lunch or dinner.

Our party of 4 had an excellent time at the UES location. Well prepared American style Chinese food that we all enjoyed. The Filet Mignon Lo Mein, Soup Dumplings & Scallion Pancakes were delicious as was everything we ordered. Our server Rilind was fun, attentive & everything was served on a nice steady schedule. Thank you for making our celebration special!

We had a wonderful experience at the Uptown location last night. The hostess, despite being busy, greeted me with a smile on her face. Our waiter, Rilind, was out of this world! It was apparent that he loves what he does, and his warm personality speaks volumes. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken satay, the honey walnut shrimp, as well as the shrimp and pork soup dumplings. The satay is definitely the best I've ever had. No where else can you find chicken satay that just melts in your mouth like butter, without being drowned in peanut sauce. I've tried the satay at Panda, as well as Jue Lan, and I think Philippe's is hands down, my favorite in NYC. I think I will try the shrimp (yes they have shrimp satay) next time! My other favorite appetizer was the walnut shrimp. It has this unique creaminess with a little tinge of salty at the end, that is complimented by the sweet crunchiness of the candied walnuts. My only regret is not having ordered a to go order of this! For entrees, we ordered vegetable lo mein, chilean sea bass, and the kung pao chicken. I was honestly too full from the apps and my philippitinis, that I can't say too much here. The sea bass tasted a bit too fishy for my liking, but nothing that a twirl of lo mein and a sip of lychee martini can't cure. We had plenty of leftovers to take home, which I look forward to eating later today. Can't wait to return in the near future!!!!

The Assistant Manager Christy Truong was very helpful, we had reservations for 8 , but had my two kids surprise us , because we were celebrating our mom's 84th Birthday and Christy was very accommodating and gave us a good table and made it happen. Thank you Christy and our server Marion was just too good. Thank you Philippe Chow for making all our special events very memorable.

Food was fine enough. Service was not amazing, our server Alberto was quite rude from the start, and impatient. Wouldn't have tipped him much but since we were a medium sized party, he was getting a minimum tip --- probably why his service was crappy, not much to "work for" I guess. Anyway, in addition to that, we were at a table outside and there were roaches everywhere at the end of the night. Not interested in returning. 2 stars for food, other star for handsome servers who were inside ... nice eye candy.

Service was quick and professional even though we went during restaurant week. All of the food we ordered was good. They were out of some of the desserts which was disappointing so we got 2 of the same dessert instead. The dumplings were just ok, I wouldn't get those again. Everything else tasted great, including the lychee martinis, filet mignon, and crispy beef. Only other complaint was that the filet mignon (although soft like butter and melted in my mouth) was only a few small pieces and the dish was mostly asparagus.

Everything was absolutely amazing, when we first walked in being greeted by Christie at the hostess desk, to our server Rilind. Whom went above and beyond to ensure the best service. Not to mention the manager Henry, who was very personable and made us feel like family. An absolute must when in the city.

Can we say I underestimated this place !! I'm not sure why. It's very sexy ; chic. Dark and dimly lit. I think I heard the name thrown around on tv or something and I was like mehhhh..BUT ITS NOT YALL.. it's just a nice cozy sexual vibe..I came for afternoon ..I was in the area shopping ..the menu is extensive ..they have a pre -fix for lunch . I had the chicken satay and orange beef. I was surprised . I expected same ol..oriental style food . It was delicious ..tasted very fresh ..and was prompt as far as service ..I sat at the bar .it was a tight squeeze because the waiters and staff needed to pass me ..but the bartender was SUPER DOPE..and made my experience wonderful ..many Men work here ..and it's not bad because they look great in their suits..I will have to come in the evening ...brb

I went for restaurant week. I had an 8pm reservation and was asked to wait at the bar when I checked in, but was sat about 10 min later. We were sat upstairs, which is a little darker than the downstairs area. The tables are quite close together and the music was loud so it was very difficult to have a conversation. The food was good and the portions large. We had the veg lo mein and chicken lettuce wraps to start, the special prawns and crispy beef as entrees with sides of green beans (so good!!) and vegetable fried rice (greasy and no veggies to be seen) and the red velvet cake (very rich)) for dessert. With the exception of the rice, all was extremely tasty! The service was quick and efficient. The regular prices seem a little too expensive in my opinion but restaurant week was an EXCELLENT deal.

Service was good. Able to make a reservation same day with no wait. Food was eh Wok fried beef dumplings tasted weird. Steamed shrimp dumplings were delicious Mr Chengs noodles: texture was over cooked soggy noodles. The classic pork sauce had a good flavor. Nine season prawns and Chilean sea bass were tasty. Overall thoughts: overpriced average food at best. Folks seem to love it, but I can honestly say I've had better at "lower end" Asian restaurants.

So when we got here this place was a lot nice that we expected. But even though we were outside of the dress code they made accommodations for our group of 6. Menu was a little more expensive than planned for lunch too but it is absolutely worth it. The food was delicious.. the staff took really good care of us . I don't think you need to order family style if you have less than 8 people. With our 6 we ordered each ordered for one person and we were able to share ... I would go back here if I'm in New York City looking for good Chinese food. Don't miss it.
