"This family-owned sweet shop has been crafting chocolates since 1925, making it the city’s oldest chocolatier (take a bite of one of its signature chocolate turtles for a hint of why.) Best-sellers like the classic chocolate chip cookies, sea salt caramels, and brownies drizzled with white, dark and milk chocolate make for a great holiday gift if you can avoid eating them all yourself. New favorites include a play on pumpkin pie in fudge form, too. Philips Chocolates is open for in-person shopping as well as online orders that can be shipped nationwide." - Nathan Tavares

We have tried to get here a few times because someone got us a box of chocolates for Christmas and it was amazing. I can tell you we were NOT disappointed! John walked us through the chocolates, telling us a bit about them. He was super helpful and let us try samples of their newest chocolates. Amazing! We got 5 boxes of chocolates for about $125. Very good deal as the chocolates are amazing and quite large. John really made the experience for us! The selections are huge, so you will definitely find something for just about any pallet. I highly recommend going to Phillips for any occasion or if you want to spoil yourself a little.

This place has some damn fine chocolate! Gotta say: impressed! It’s not the best chocolate I’ve ever had but it was delicious and I’d definitely come here again! Curious about the thick trading practices for the chocolate, as I usually choose my daily chocolate supply based on that, but so glad such good chocolate is right next door! And the selection is impressive! The place is stocked and quite large!!!! Sugar free and Vegan options too!!!

Google
Best chocolate in the world! Love this chocolate and have turn several people onto it! You can order online (thankfully for the people addicted to the chocolate from 1200. Iles away) but the experience at the store in Boston is the best! The smell of chocolate is awesome,

I had the absolute pleasure of working at Phillips for three years when living in Boston, and miss it constantly (and miss eating chocolate daily constantly too). This family owned business is a Boston staple, the oldest chocolatier in Boston started in 1925, with a really beautiful history and legacy. An occasional visit by Mark Wahlberg was pretty cool too. The confections are all made on sight, and overnight, by brilliant chocolatiers. You couldn't go wrong with anything you picked, from their famous turtles and fudge, to the chocolate covered cherries or almond buttercrunch. The aroma of chocolate fills your nose the moment you walk in, tempting you to try it all. Having been out of the area for over 7 years, I bought all of my favorites to last me through the winter (although I was sad to see the wintergreen patties were no more). It's getting to be that time for the giant filled Easter Eggs too. Do yourself a favor and stop in, you will not be disappointed.

Google
This is the number one candy house in massachusetts..My opinion.Has been in the same location about 72 years..Chocolates are incredibly fresh.. Premade boxes ready to go for quick gift selections..

Google
Ok BEST CHOCOLATE EVER. I visited on my trip and wish I stocked up on more snacks.. so delicious! Candy and chocolate! I HIGHLY recommend stopping in!!

Google
They have the best homemade chocolate I've ever had. My personal favorite or milk chocolate turtles with cashews and sea salt

Google
The chocolates here are beyond delicious! Handmade and melt in your mouth. Traditional recipes are amazing and so are their new flavors. Get yourself a piece of New England's best chocolate- you won't regret it! Worth the trip to the store- be sure to check out the wall hangings for their story!

Yelp
Best chocolate turtles ever! I've been buying mine there for over 30 years. Their selection of chocolates and salted Carmel's is impressive. They make all of their chocolates on site and the shop always smells magical.

Alix R.

Yelp
Pretty good chocolates and candies for a decent price. It was fun to walk around the shop and see what fun/random candies they had floating around. At some point, there were some chocolate cigar books that were blue and pink for gender reveals/baby showers hahah which was quite cringe. Ignoring that weirdness, they had a lot of cute holiday-themed chocolates and candies.

Jay M.

Yelp
Excellent turtles and cashew, pecan, almond. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate., sea salt options for each... must have ad a treat or gift to a love one.... Never complaints as been buying for many years... once eat one ... then another....

Lisa S.

Yelp
We get a lot of food gifts over the holidays. Most are fair-to-mediocre. We got this box of Phillips Chocolates and I tried one, with low expectations.....and had my mind blown! How can these be so delicious?! Obviously they use very fresh and REAL ingredients. These are 10x better than See's. And 100x better than Harry and David or any of those other holiday gift vendors. I gave all the other holiday food away, but I'm keeping these for myself. And the price is the same as others. Spectacular!

Joan O.

Yelp
Freshest and my ab favorite chocolate. Ordered via website. Arrived quickly with great packaging. Thanks

Jackie H.

Yelp
Handmade chocolates. Love the fruit cream filled chocolates. Great place to make your own chocolate box as a gift for someone! Friendly and helpful staff.

Lisa D.

Yelp
Wow what a candy shop! We walked in and it is meticulous and smelled so good. Two nice young people helped us pick our own chocolates out of a great variety! Associates were patient and very kind and caring. Phillips has all our favorites like orange, coffee and mint chocolates. The chocolates were bursting with flavor and so fresh! I got a few dark, pecan turtles as well, so yummy! Can't wait to go back for a larger assortment what was I thinking getting a little box!

pamela p.

Yelp
Worth the trek! Customer service was lovely! The candy is fresh. Great selection. Happy camper!

Brian H.

Yelp
It is a wonderful small shop jam packed with everything delicious. The artistry of the specialty chocolates is phenomenal! A wonderful surprise for my wife and daughter. The staff certainly enjoys servicing their customers with pride in the shop beaming through them. Rightly so! I will definitely be back many times in the future.

Yelp
When I was younger, my mother taught me that it is okay to have candy once in a while. At the same time, she said the following "if you're going to have sweets, have a GOOD candy, and not a lollipop." Now, don't get me wrong, I am not throwing shade at regular candy. I've eaten more Reece's than I am willing to admit, not just that, I am saving frozen (and likely long expired) Nestle Butterfingers for special occasions. Ferrero, if you're reading this, either bring back the original recipe or admit that it was burned my Nestle before they handed over the keys. But, I digress. When your in virtually any store or by the office vending machine and you get a terrible sweet-tooth ache, go ahead and buy the Reese's. On the other hand, if you want a DANG GOOD chocolates, these are among the best I'd had. I am especially fond of their Turtles! Caramel, if sweet and delicious, but chewing it, takes at best a solid two minutes. Here, the turtles preserve their delicious turtle-ness without transforming into a form of chewing gum. Other favorites have been the peanut butter cups and orange skins. Both delicious without being overly sweet. Furthermore, the dark chocolate makes everything even yummier! It has just the right amount of bitterness. Whatever your preferences are, they have a large and impressive collection. Yes, they are expensive. You can get branded chocolates for much less. What it comes down to is value. The quality and the love that goes into Phillips sweets is what makes the price more understandable, plus, Boston isn't the cheapest when it comes to rent, not even close. My advice: keep it as a special treat, and not an everyday thing. Even if you have deep pockets and a bulletproof immune system you want this quality of sweets to not become routine (and lose their wow factor).

Laura B.

Yelp
The turtles are amazing! Hash bars too! Honestly, it is a good place for the whole family. My kids get gummies while my husband and I appreciate the chocolate made on site (I think)

Mickey G.

Yelp
Worth. Every. Penny. Comparable in price to See's Candies and 10x better. And local. And family-owned. Best turtles (and other candies) in the world.

Margo L.

Yelp
I know it's the holiday season. But I'm so disappointed with this delivery. I placed an order last week, then received an email saying UPS would require a signature. Damn. I hate having to wait around. So UPS sends an email saying delivery would be made on Saturday between 2-6. No delivery. So I wait home on Sunday not knowing if the package will come. It didn't. So I figure delivery will be made Monday. Nope. At 4:30 I get an email indicating delivery will be made on Tuesday between 2-6. All this waiting because the delivery needs a signature. It's only chocolate!!!!!

Yari G.

Yelp
I'll go back just for Carol alone! She is so sweet, passionate and so knowledgeable--you can tell that she loves her job. I went to Phillips because I heard about their chocolate turtles, but I had no idea of all the assortments of candy and chocolate that they serve. All the ones I tried are amazing. I left there with a satisfied sweet tooth from some tastings, a bag full of goodies, and some new knowledge of this chocolatier. Thank you, Carol! You made a great experience for my bf and me, we will definitely be returning when we're in Boston again.

Kimberley G.

Yelp
I've just received a box of turtles for Valentine's Day (that I opened right away) from my hubby. So, so tasty. The best turtles I have had.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Don't order online! 7 days ago (12/16) I placed 2 orders, they said i would recieve an e mail with a tracking no. when my order was shipped. Their web site said the next available shippind date was the 17th. To date i had not recieved a tracking no. so i called them only to find out my order hadn't even been processed yet and the best they could do was Sat. the 26th. For a company thats been arround for 95 years they should know when their busy seasons are and act accordingly, I should have been told that they would never even process my order for 7 days, Icould have drove there , mailed it myself and been better off. Never again.

Maura M.

Yelp
The store is quite small and they are doing a great job keeping social distancing possible. I purchase all different chocolates for each person in my family and there is nothing but love and deliciousness

Michael C.

Yelp
My Mom and Dad love your Chocolate Turtles and I always get big points every time I send as gifts! Going to visit my parents soon and will be sure to visit store as they don't have one in San Francisco.

Sarah B.

Yelp
The chocolates here are delicious. However I think the prices went up significantly in the last year. I expect to pay extra for well made candy at a boutique shop, but I was still blown away. I bought a few items to supplement Christmas gifts and it came out to $76. This was a lot more than I wanted to spend, so I checked my receipt and noticed the two bags of chocolate balls (which are about half the size I remember them being last year) were $20. I couldn't justify spending that and went back in and they wouldn't take the chocolates back. I hadn't opened them or left the parking lot. The time was on my receipt and two minutes had passed from when I bought them and when I tried to return them. I feel like at this price, they should come with a free vacation.

Brian F.

Yelp
No stars, chocolate is great but there customer service is piss poor stood out side for 1/2 hr or so only to be told if we are not in by 6pm we are out of luck they didn't have anyone out side to info Us luckey we made it in i asked a woman behind register a question and i thought she was gonna bite my head off again piss poor. Customer service su_ ks there you would think a company who makes money off of families would have a better attitude . Bowling alley staff are not much better.

Michael M.

Yelp
Ran in to grab my sweetheart some of her favorite chocolate turtles on Valentines Day. The place was busy as to be expected, but not too bad. The service was exceptional. The price was good. The smile on my sweetheart's face was priceless. It always nice to be able to drop I'm a neighborhood place and get the best in the world.

Orlean S.

Yelp
I love turtles. After hearing Phillips are Oprah's favorite I gave them a try. They have turtles in different chocolates and different nuts beyond just pecan. I stuck with my fav: dark chocolate and pecan. They are just over $2 each and smaller than expected -- nuts out to about the size of a half dollar with the chocolate about the size of a quarter. I was not impressed with the taste of the chocolate or caramel. They weren't chewy or really even flavorful. I also tried the fudge, specifically the Penuche walnut. Again, not the best fudge consistency. The flavor is nice, like Christmas candy, but its slightly grainy and dried out around the edges.

Young K.

Yelp
Best chocolate ever. You must try it to believe it. The store is adorable. Order online and pickup later.

Kimberly A.

Yelp
I love the candy here. Their chocolate turtles are the best and they come in both milk or dark chocolate. They also have great fudge here and you can build your own box of chocolates. The service is always pleasant.

Cherie C.

Yelp
I finally made it here! This will become my "local gift" when I am visiting friends and want to bring something from Boston. The chocolate is really good. It's not fancy, single-origin chocolate like Dagoba or fancy like Vosges. But it's creamy and delicious. The staff recommended I try the hash bar (she even made the obvious but funny joke about telling my friend I know where to get great hash in Dorchester). It has filberts and marshmallow and was great. If they are in stock, get some! The chocolates, fudge, and roasted nut combos are all made in house. The jellies and gummies are not, I was told. And note if you're buying the wrapped chocolate bars and want a local treat: a few of them are from Asher's. Asher's makes great chocolate, too, but it's not by Phillips (and actually made near the town I'm planning to visit and bring chocolate, which is just silly). Of course, Asher's founder learned to make chocolate in Boston, so there's a connection. I'm glad I don't have a car and need to bike or walk to get here; otherwise I'd be in trouble with all that chocolatey goodness so close to home.

Yelp
Philip is a place from my childhood. And while the traditional regular chocolate remain good, the sugar free chocolate left to be desired. Could have been better but I know that sugar free is not what they specialize in. Otherwise Philips is still a great place for regular chocolate's as my daughter loves the turtles, peanut butter cups & milk chocolate hash.

Larae B.

Yelp
I had never heard of Phillips chocolates until Christmas 2015. My attorney sent me a two pound box of a variety of Phillips chocolate and I must admit it was the best chocolates I had ever tasted in my life. Because my attorney sent Phillips chocolates ,I knew it had to be the best. My ,my how right she was again. Larae B.

J T.

Yelp
4 1/2 stars for a delicious chocolate candy shop. I absolutely love the 16 piece box of chocolate turtles, filled with fresh almonds, pecans and walnuts. Each bite is special occasion decadent. My current selection is milk chocolate but I usually buy a mix of decadent dark and milk chocolate. This shop is very friendly and will prepare any combination you desire. Fairly priced.

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Best chocolate covered strawberry I've ever had! Everything from Phillips Candy House is simply amazing. Their turtles are to die for - especially the salted ones! This is my go to place for gifts and sweet treats! Check it out!!

Kathy F.

Yelp
I placed an order that was shipped out on 12/19 due to arrive on 12/21. It still did not arrive on 12/22 so I called Philips to ask if the chocolate would remain fresh during the delayed shipping. I could not even ask the question. A rude woman told me to call shipping which is closed. Very poor customer service, let's hope the chocolates are better(if they ever arrive).

Patrick O.

Yelp
Chocolate OK. Bad business practices. Rude employees. Went to the store to buy some milk chocolate Christmas balls three days before Christmas. A rude employee told me they didn't have any, were sold out for a week, and they would not have any on the 23rd or 24th. Yet, I go to their website soon after leaving the store and - surprise - the milk chocolate Christmas balls are available. I have been going to the store in Dorchester for 50 years and the employees have always been some of the most obnoxious people I have ever encountered. Time to find another chocolate purveyor that appreciates its customers.

MaryLou S.

Yelp
What's not to love about Phillips's Candy House chocolates!!! At Christmas I bought their yummy chocolate turtles. They come in dark and milk chocolate with almonds, cashews and walnuts. Lots of my friends were lucky recipients of them and raved. I have recently relocated yo Dorchester after30 years of living in New York City. Phillips has been around forever. Today I had a delightful conversation with Carol who works there and recommended the best selection for my 94 year old mom who at this age the doctor said can eat whatever she wants. Yum! Thx for being there PCH.

Jim B.

Yelp
Worst Service Ever. Supposedly Oldest Chocolatier, well that it is, old must mean slow, placed order and paid for overnight delivery, had to call twice and still not shipped 4 days later, they couldn't even find order for 15 minutes each time. Yet they surely take your money. They didn't even generate receipt via email or provide order number. This company should just roll over and die!

wendy w.

Yelp
First let me start with the fact that yes the quality of this chocolate is excellent. I have been a long standing customer, as has my family. What started as a family business is no longer the case and it shows. My mother who is 84 ordered chocolates on Dec. 8. She only lives a few miles away. They were not delivered so she called on the 15th. They said they would mail them out that week. I called on the 19th because they were still not delivered and they were not even mailed out! I said that I would come by and pick them up. I get there and pick the order up and it is missing chocolates. She has paid for these, as well as shipping. I ask to speak with the manager and he says we are very busy, I have new staff and I would never had agreed to take this job if I knew what it entails. I am sure that is all true but now you have made several mistakes and cost her additional money. I explained that as this is being shipped after wrapping to another state she will have to pay an additional shipping charge and pay two day shipping. I am very understanding given the current state and am trying to support local business. These chocolates are high end ONE chocolate covered cherry cost 3.00. Since they are costing her more money plus the inconvenience of driving to the store after she ordered three weeks before Christmas the least they could have done was offer a chocolate bar or something so she broke even on the cost never mind inconvenience.

Leslie C.

Yelp
Absolutely love this candy store. Their chocolate is fantastic, their peanut butter cups will spoil you for all others and the fudge is unreal, especially the peanut butter fudge. I'm here all the time for holidays and gifts. The staff is friendly, helpful and kind. Highly recommend!!

Yeri M.

Yelp
Delicious assortments, however I do have a problem with a product priding itself as handmade, while having so many additives, artificial ingredients and preservatives. I'm pretty sure the original chocolates were not made with HFCS and yellow #5. They taste great though.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
One of the largest and extensive, and apparently also the oldest, chocolatier in the Boston area. I have seen their location in the South Shore Plaza, and this Morrissey Blvd location is vastly superior in size and options. There is extensive options of fudge, chocolate barks, turtles, etc. For example, they had chocolate turtles made with milk chocolate vs. dark chocolate, with vs. without sea salt, variations made with almonds vs. pecans vs. macadamia nuts, and this is JUST the turtles we're talking about! They had alot of different options for their chocolate barks, fudges, and a range of truffles flavors. Some things you can purchase by weight and they put into a box for you, and some things are already individually wrapped. Their turtles are a perfect blend of smooth chocolate and crunchy nuts, their cookies are delicious, and I love their individual smores, though quite a splurge at $2/ea. The pricing for the price-by-weight option was harder to figure out, since you have to have the employee help you with the fudge/bark/etc., and they ask you "how much do you want? 1lb?" Since I don't buy chocolate often, it's hard to know how much 1/2 lb vs. 1lb actually looks like without telling them they need to just walk over and showing us. This place seems great for any gift occasion too as well as general Boston souvenirs with some candies included or stuffed animals with some chocolate attached to them. They seem to also offer custom orders for special events, such as wedding favors. Easy location to find, right off of 93 and on Morrissey Blvd, right by Boston Bowl. Great place, only thing that could have made it better, was the staff were very stand-offish, they wouldn't walk over until we could figure out exactly how much we wanted; it would have been helpful if they offered to help or seemed a bit more welcoming. Overall, great place if you're looking for a range of chocolate options.

Little B.

Yelp
The candy is old fashioned in a good way and really terrific, the shop is cute and clean. The staff all wear smocks and you can see all the old ladies making the stuff out back. The Heavenly Hash fudge, really is heavenly. I stop in on my way to work for gifts and such. Not always warm and fuzzy here. But very handy for nice gifts, people love the turtles. I am a regular, and the quality can't be beat.

chungo m.

Yelp
a good reason to venture away from your normal haunts. Great company and quality. This is how all businesses should be! Oh, and the chocolate is frickin' awesome!

Noreen S.

Yelp
I have been a fan since being introduced some thirty years ago. When I was in the area, I would drive in; now I order on-line. I have always been extremely pleased with the exceptionally high quality chocolate, and have created new fans of the business through sharing. However, I must emphasize that sharing is a difficult task. Yes, the chocolate IS THAT GOOD! My solution has been to order two boxes; one to give, and one for me. My favorites are the milk and white chocolate pecan turtles; they will transport you to taste bud heaven! The gift wrapping is lovely; you won't have any need to re-wrap. Even the Phillips Candy House card is a nod to the grand old luxury of a high quality product. The chocolates have always come on time, and in pristine shape. My only desire would be to have these chocolates more often!

Chrissy Y.

Yelp
Thanks to Maryann at Phillips for her generous donation of a gift cert. Because of the generosity of donors like you colinsmission.org fundraiser for 2016 was a huge success. Thank You!

Anne N.

Yelp
Great plain chocolate chip cookies. Extremely poor managment! Please will someone buy this business and run it correctly? They lose so much money by always being out of stock.

Taylor E.

Yelp
Awful customer service, hidden charges, 10% off corporate orders means 10% off the price of each individual item for the corporate order, not actually 10% off the entire order.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Delicious homemade chocolates and beautiful store. Customer service needs to be worked on. They are very slow in the store. Lovely people but you always wait and some small efficiencies would improve this. Basic customer service--anticipate! I have driven by a few times wanting some chocolate but know it will take too darn long. When you order online you never know when the package will arrive. It says they use UPS ground so one expects the next day. You don't get a tracking number. The packaging is too much--they still use styrofoam peanuts! And stuff comes wrapped when it doesn't need to wrapped. Please--please talk to your workers and get them more on top of things as you go into the holiday season!!

Britt S.

Yelp
YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. Every now and then, I would pop over to the Braintree store at South Shore Plaza but was saddened to learn that it's not longer there. :( Anywho, my coworker grew up in Southie and took me over to their main headquarters in Dorchester, and what a treat it was! Milk chocolate turtles taste as good, if not better, as I remember. I was greeted with the delicious smell of chocolate right when I walked in the door, and it wafted in the air as I surveyed all the yummy chocolates and goodies. I grabbed the pecan milk chocolate turtle bar (delish) and 2 very generous size squares of the penuche fudge. Needless to say, those were gone within a half an hour of buying them! So so good, worth every penny. Reasonable prices, great service and delicious treats. Do try!

Beth M.

Yelp
Best turtles, hands down. We live near this spot and I have to stop myself from swinging by on my commute home each night :) Phillips is a great shop - with tons of chocolate and candy choices. Seriously, their turtles are amazing...milk or dark chocolate. They make an excellent gift. They do a nice job packaging things up and I always enjoy giving them for a gift around the holidays.

Raychael C.

Yelp
My husband and I have been on a salted caramel kick lately and have tried quite a few chocolatiers. Phillips has, by far, the best salted vanilla caramels around! We got quite the tour there as well! Awesome experience! Thank you!

David E.

Yelp
When I'm in Boston, this is one of my favorite places to stop. Large selection of chocolates, solid, fruits, nuts, boxed candies, and more. Everything is really fresh and delicious. I recommend the fruit peels (either orange or lemon) and the pineapple. They all come covered in your choice of milk or dark chocolate.

Jacqueline P.

Yelp
Just went a few weeks ago and had a great experience! The service was excellent. A nice women told us the history of Phillips Candy House then explained each chocolate. Her enthusiasm and knowledge made our trip very memorable. Everything is made fresh and tasted delicious! I would recommend the peanut butter cups, turtles, and fudge. The prices are very reasonable and it is always good to support local businesses. I will definitely be back!

Heidi M.

Yelp
Excellent and yummy...nothing better. They make all of their candy themselves and it is so good. I got my wedding favors done here, and they came out excellent. The people there are so sweet and helpful too!
