"I spotted this cheesesteak purveyor on the Day In Day Out food-and-drink roster." - Gabe Guarente

Philly Originals - Beaver

Google
Our family stopped in for lunch. We tried the philly cheese steak, the Italian hoagie, fries and onion rings. All of the food came out super fast and super hot. We, surprisingly, enjoyed the Italian even more than the Philly - but both were good.

I recently visited Philly Originals in Beaver County for lunch and introduced my co-workers to this hidden gem. Their feedback was unanimous—they hadn't had a sub like this in years. The sandwiches are packed with flavor, and the ingredients are always fresh. The staff were welcoming and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere is casual yet inviting, and the service is quick and friendly. It's clear the owners take pride in their craft, offering an authentic Philly experience with a personal touch. Definitely a place worth returning to!

Google
Great Philly Cheesesteak! Portions were good for the price, 1 order of fries was big enough for two adults and a kid. Service was excellent, the lady at the counter was friendly and helpful. Bathroom was clean but needs updated, however it included a paper towel dispenser which is a plus over places that only have air dryers

David G.

Google
Very good cheese steak! I have been going to the Jersey Shore for years, and Philly Originals is right up there with the best of them!

Naut M.

Google
Their subs are as good as it gets. For the price it would've been nice to get a longer sub, 8 inches for 13 and change is what you get. The sides are also expensive given they don't make them in house. All in all, this cheesesteak is perfect in quality and flavor so definitely try them. I got mushrooms, onions, green and hot peppers. Came out scorching hot so this is perfect to-go food that will take 30 minutes to cool off on the way home.

The only reason I’m not giving zero stars is that we have loved this place for years and this issue is something that can be fixed . We usually order dinner late on Wednesday evenings -in the last three months we have had one disaster after another . The staff is consistently just a handful of very young guys -and while nice -there really seems to be a disconnect with how to make the food properly . We ordered a grilled chicken salad , got it home , it had chicken thrown in a container over lettuce ?!? No red potatoes , cheese , literally none of the ingredients typical of the salad . When we returned it they did contact someone who offered to give us cash out of the register . A few Wednesdays later we ordered our regular pizza steak with just meat , cheese and sauce . Got it home -no sauce !? Ok meat and cheese only is just a plain cheesesteak !? They were closed by the time we got home . A week later my husband ordered it over the weekend , told them about it , and they loaded the sandwich and it was made to perfection . JUST did another Wednesday , checked it at the store , and AGAIN there was just meat and cheese on the PIZZA steak ? When I ordered I explained it again . He said “there’s sauce mixed in there “-I nicely said we have ordered this multiple times and this looks nothing like it . He gave me a side of sauce but that doesn’t taste anything like when it’s mixed on the grill . If by chance you are taking supervisory or more season staff to help open your second location in Ambridge, that will come back to bite you in the end. Your restaurant is an anchor in our sweet little town and we will continue to patronize it in the hopes that some of these issues can be corrected. If they’re not , sadly we will have to do our Wednesday takeout elsewhere . We appreciate the chance to be heard.

Google
I ordered a sandwich as a takeout order. Food was good, me and my partner were very satisfied. Buying local and eating local is also a good thing. This thing also prompts me to post photos. What kind am I supposed to post? Ok, I will post something I am known for in the community while I say...support local businesses and support local charities. Also, if you want to host the local Salvation Army in front of your business but dont want your customers to be chased away by the annoying bell , then consider contacting your local chapter and ask for the dude with the toy animal band pictured in the photos. I will draw in customers to your business instead of chasing them away. Jazz music is better than the bell

Google
I had a delicious lunch with my dad today (it was his first time there) and he was not disappointed at all! Im a carnivore so it’s the PERFECT spot for me to get my “fix” I imagine he’ll frequent often now!! It was the perfect afternoon for outdoor dining.

Yelp
Philly cheesesteak was amazing and the cheese fries are the bomb! I like that they have Pepsi but also coke

Yelp
Food was good but greasy I'd say definitely over priced for what you get...where I'm from you can get a footlong (cheesesteak) with added onions ect for 15 or less Place is always clean staff nice as normal!

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch when I was in Beaver. Really enjoyed the meatball sub and French fries. Split the meal with my husband, was more than enough to share. Fast service was very appreciated. Cute outdoor seating.

Arleen M.

Yelp
Food was greasy and expensive. $13.50 each for a Philly cheese steak and chicken Philly. Got an order of onion rings. Also really greasy. Staff was friendly.
google avatar

Winston C.

Yelp
The fries are super hot with some great cheese coating the pile. Add some vinegar and ketchup and next time bacon for sure. Cheesesteaks are a must from this place. The melted cheese covering the meat and toppings went together perfectly. The bread was just strong enough to sustain a meaty juice attack and not give up the sandwich. The service was fast and friendly and they will even bring your order to your table. Typical sandwich shop decor on the inside and seating available outside. Lots of outside noise from the constant traffic crossing signals to the town fire whistle. With lots of food options in town, this place fulfills the sandwich target.

Yelp
Great employees, great food!!! I got a philly sub, all of us loved it!!!! Was debating, and this place was closer then where we planned to go, glad we did!!! Bread quality great and service also great!!
google avatar

Raquel Lynn H.

Yelp
Had a great meal here. Sat outside it was hot and fresh. One of the best in the Pittsburgh area.

Monica D.

Yelp
Food is good but prices are too high for a hoagie ! Every add on is 50 cents so if you want a few pieces of tomato then 50 cents. If you want a few leafs of lettuce then 50 cents. Over cost for chicken cheesesteak with lettuce and tomato was 14.50 plus tax so 16 dollars and without drink or chips
google avatar

Tina M.

Yelp
Unfortunately, it was not as good as I remembered I like there was too much oil on the bread
google avatar

Gary Y.

Yelp
Sandwiches were great french fries were nice crisp it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the food.

Yelp
It was ok needs more season. The Philly Steak was good. Only thing we didn't like was that they added a tip before we even got our food. Overall, it was ok.

Chrissy G.

Yelp
The ham and cheese hoagie was the best I ever had, the onion rings were delicious too. My husband loved his philly steak and cheese and fries

Alexandra K.

Yelp
Sandwhiches are incredible. Great location. The staff is friendly and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating!

Charles W G.

Yelp
When we pas through Beaver we always stop for a Philly Cheesesteak with Hot Peppers and Cheese Fries. So So Good!

Yelp
A little bit of Brotherly love in Beaver... I decided to pop into a fairly new Philly cheesesteak place that my Mother-in-law has heard about. There was easy parking on the street in front of Philly originals and we had the place to ourselves at the time (great timing on our part, got busy before we left). They have a ample menu but I knew I was going straight classic cheesesteak, period. My wife went with the chicken cheesesteak and meatball hoagie for my son as well as cheese fries to share. The flavors were good, the meat was juicy and cooked perfectly. The bread was soft and fresh but the fries were the star of the night. The cheese sauce was delicious and plentiful. Overall the prices just ok for what you get, the sandwiches were tasty and everything was freshly cooked to order, Aloha

Yelp
You can't really ever go wrong with Phillys. Every time you walk in the door and hear the bells jingle you know you are in for a mouth watering meal. The hardest part is deciding whether you are going to order an old fashioned steak or chicken.. today I solved that ancient riddle - order both and thank me later.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Cheesesteak was seasoned well. Mushrooms and onions done perfect and bun was average. Price for a 6" cheesesteak was $17 totally crazy Save your money

Yelp
This is a tough one since there was both good and bad...and the good was REALLY good. Surprisingly, it was the hardest part of the equation (the cheesesteak) that was spot on, but the easier part fell short...the part that most every one else gets right on this side of the commonwealth. The bread. First, the name 'Philly Origials' sets an expectation for an original Philadelphia cheesesteak. While that definition varies slightly, even in Philly, there are constants that are almost universally adhered to. Philly Originals gets the cheesesteak part more than right with tender shaved beef, properly carmelized onions, and a cheese mixture that seems like more than just provolone...no wiz, but well within the bounds of accepted variation. It was as good as I've had this side of the Susquehanna. What fell short was usually the easiest part (and arguably as important as the cheesesteak)...the roll. The bread is usually a 12" Amoroso style Italian roll, slightly crisp on the outside, but not enough to provide significant resistance. The Philly Original roll was closer to the consistency of a French bread with crust that belies the traditional consistency of an 'original' Philly. The sandwich is 8 inches for the boutique price of $11.30, and was served in a styrofoam box instead of rolled in the usual paper sheet. To be fair, that same roll is also used for their other subs for which the substitution is less egregious, but if you're going to use the 'original' as your namesake, at least make the additional effort to pair the correct bread, both size and type, with what is otherwise an awesomely genuine cheesesteak.

Lukas H.

Yelp
They got rid of the macaroni salad, HOW dare they. 2/5 add it back or get a colder freezer!

Diana T.

Yelp
They changed their cheesesteaks no nearly as good. I was disappointed!!! And they changed their fries and they are way too expensive!!
google avatar

Victor R.

Yelp
Philly originals been in beaver for well over 30 years as far as I know all is a good place for cheesesteak. I like my cheese steak, naked just cheese and steak and it's very tasty.
google avatar

Elayne W.

Yelp
Growing up in Philly, I can tell you that the steak sandwiches are fantastic! Very authentic. Staff not so friendly.

Yelp
Stopped here on the drive back from a trip to Pittsburgh. A small sandwich shop on the Main Street in Beaver; original, not a franchise. if the weather's nice, tables to sit outside. Specialty here is cheesesteaks, with a few other sandwiches on the menu as well-- Mary had the chicken cordon bleu. Check out the amazing assortment of bottled soda, too, and try out something different- watermelon soda, anybody?- from a company you never heard of. Small town America. The only eatery open on Sunday afternoon, but no complaints. The others were probably good too. But this one was locavore and nostalgia all rolled into one. Nice place for a light lunch.

Yelp
Been to many philly cheese steak joints. From Max's,Jim's steaks, Pats king ,Joe's , Leo's etc. Put whatever u want on it lettuce, tomato's , cheese, mushrooms...whatever!! It's ur choice. This cheese steak was excellent. From the roll, nice soft crisp great tasting seasoned steak w/ juices soaking in the roll, I added my cheese when I got home VERY GOOD. The steak was a little on the shy side but made up for its taste. Excellent, fries, potato salad..
google avatar

Jody S.

Yelp
Oh, my! These Philly cheesesteaks are absolutely delicious! The steak is tender and flavorful! The owner is a great guy and employs personable staff!

Joe C.

Yelp
$11.30 for a cheesesteak. It was good but $11.30 plus tax got a 6" steak. No fries no nothing. $2.65 for a fountain drink. Left here hungry. I really thought it would be a 10-12" steak. Wont be back.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick cheesesteak and soda (pop for those who don't use 'soda') for a lunch or dinner. They do have other sandwich choices, but I haven't tried them yet. Anyway, I'm from South Jersey, you know, the other suburb of Philly, and for some reason everyone on this side of PA likes to 'Pittsburgheeze' cheesesteaks. It's not a 'Philly' original if its got too many toppings on it that isn't cheese, steak, or onions. Philly Cheesesteak ingredients should be as follows: italian sub roll, thinly sliced steak, melted cheese, onions, or mushrooms, or sauce. Done. It doesn't matter if its cheez whiz or not (sorry philly friends, no offense meant). Please, ya'll need to remember, no mayo and no other toppings unless the customer asks for them. Thanks!

Yelp
Excellent Philly Cheesesteak! it took me a little over an hour to drive here from my place in NE Ohio, but it was well worth it. Ordered the cheese steak with mushrooms and a side of cheese fries. The steak was tender and juicy and delicious. It could have used a bit more seasoning (salt/pepper) but it was still great. They use provolone cheese which gives the sandwich a nice tang. The mushrooms were earthy and meaty, and added a nice richness to the sandwich. I added a few dashes of Frank's Red Hot sauce here and there to give it a little kick. The cheese fries were nice and crisp and came loaded with melty cheese. After a new bites, I noticed a little bit of heat. Not a large amount, just enough to take notice. Then I realized it...the cheese sauce was nacho cheese. Awesome! Washed it all down with a Hank's Vanilla Cream Soda. Mmmm. Food was great, the place was nice and clean, and the 2 young guys who waited on me were super-nice. Overall great experience. I *will* be back to this place. I just wish it wasn't so far from where I live. :)

Richard P.

Yelp
I ordered 2 Philly cheesesteak over the phone for takeout. The person that took my order was very upbeat and professional. I was told it would be about 30 minutes. Pretty spot on. The sandwiches were great. Who needs to go to Philadelphia for a great Philly Cheesesteak. Just go to downtown Beaver.
google avatar

Kinga H.

Yelp
Had a Philly cheesesteak here and fries. They tasted ok, nothing too special. In the 5 minutes it took to open it, the fries got soggy in the to-go container :-(
google avatar

Lashawnda S.

Yelp
Love this place. Best sandwiches around.the food is always good. The bread is nice and soft, and the chicken is great. I like mine with mayo, onions, mushrooms, and hot peppers.
google avatar

Lori T.

Yelp
Sandwiches are still just as great. The only thing that was wrong with mine was that the cheese was on top NOT on the bottom like a true Philly cheese steak.
google avatar

Seth K.

Yelp
The guy running the counter has a smile and is easy to deal with. I ordered a #9 which is a philly with it all and wizz. I might add it is delicious! The fries are ok, not my favorite kind but still beats McDonald's. I was excited to see all the craft soda selection and alternatives to high fructose syrup. Easily would be my spot if it was local to me.
google avatar

Christiane N Claude A.

Yelp
Great subs friendly owner. My new goto spot. Love the Italian hoagie be sure to bring cash they do take cards but there is a $10.00 minimum
google avatar

Kurt A.

Yelp
Ok. So my previous review docked them for refusing to add ham to their steak & egg sub. Found out today that they aren't permitted to mix any meats... so dont ask for a steak and chicken, either. These are, by far, the best cheesesteaks outside of Philly. Although in and near Philly there are quite a few that outshine it. Basically, if you want an awesome cheesesteak without the 6 hour drive, gotta hit up Philly O's.

Raymond C.

Yelp
I like Phillys Steak subs better than Genos or Pats in South Philly ! Eat inside or outside or to go. You will love it
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Hands down the best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had. No way could I ever go back to the national sandwich chains. So looking forward to trying the other foods. Wide variety of sodas. Friendly staff. Its another reason why the vibe in downtown Beaver is so awesome.
google avatar

Augusto T.

Yelp
Great Cheese steaks at a great value! I have to say that his small restaurant in the small town of Beaver delivers a better cheese steak than Geno's. I don't really care which is the more authentic version of the original. All I can say is that the one I ate in Beaver was tastier, by far. Everything was made to order, the sandwiches were substantial, and they had a great selection of gourmet sodas for sale. I tried the cheese steak and the meatball sandwich and they were both great! The fries were great and they serve you a huge basket of them. Pretty much the only downside is that the food took a while because there was only on cook, but everything was well worth the wait. Did I mention it was also cheap?
google avatar

Rick M.

Yelp
Nice corner spot in a quaint downtown street. Clean and friendly service. They have a wide variety of sodas also! Very good sandwich (I had the Cheese Steak and fries) Prices were good and they even take AMEX card.

Yelp
We spent our afternoon with my family in beaver county.. Did I mention we were hungover? I went to a baby shower which has basic food. Afterwards i was still feeling like crap and needed something greasy and delicious. Found Phillys thanks to a yelp search. We each ordered a cheesesteak and shared a side of fries. Mushrooms onion and peppers (hot sweet or green) come with all sandwiches. Lettuce and tomato are extra. They have a full menu of sandwiches.. More than just cheesesteaks. Ours were delicious! I wouldn't say the best I've had since I'm a city dweller which has endless options of cheesesteaks, but for beaver county this is the best you can find. It was much needed and the guys working the shop were very kind and friendly. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Earl S.

Yelp
Got two subs.. they quality of the food is delicious! Only bad thing I have too say about this place is you wait a good while too get your food. Another is the bun was soo wet from the grease of the food that the bun fell apart and the sub was uneatable... other than that the food is amazing! I'll be back!
google avatar

Kathleen S.

Yelp
I loved this steak Salad the best in all of Pittsburgh. But I got one today 04-09 and all it was was lettuce , meat, potatoes. Where's the cheese, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms that I did order. I was very dissatisfied ! The boys who used to grill were much better.
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I have wanted to try this place for a while and just never stopped. Our friend came down to visit from North Carolina so we finally went and ate there. The store is nice and clean. The staff is friendly and honestly, the food was good. The food can be hard to eat because of the way that they make the sandwiches. It takes a while to get your food but it's well worth the wait. It's definitely a place that I would eat again but the food is something that you would want to eat in your car because it is messy.
google avatar

Yelp
Note: Philly Originals does deliver but only during weekdays from 11AM to 1:30PM. Their policy: "With a minimum $30.00 order up to two miles. Over two miles, one sandwich for each additional mile." Beaver, PA has one spiffy main business drag, and Philly Originals is one of its many highlights. In search of unpretentious, cheap eats early on a Saturday afternoon, we arrived at last to Philly Originals and left satisfied. Of course they have an array of other handheld eats referred to as the Bill of Sandwiches on the menu, but their Philly Cheesesteak is the star and deservedly so. Legit, chopped sirloin steak, real-deal, gluey provolone cheese, onions, mushroom, and green peppers just jam together inside a hefty Breadworks bun. Like any good sandwich of the street, it will fight back. The draw of the sandwich is too great to allow it cool off before chowing down. The hot cheese wraps around your tongue and burns you. The roll is tough, giving your jaw muscles a workout. The veggies snap. The meat jumps out of your mouth and onto the plate. One thudly sandwich, when you're done with it, you'll feel like you traveled to Philadelphia, went the distance with Brock Lesnar in the octagon, and came back with ten pounds of gold around your midsection. Philly Originals falls one tick short of a perfect rating for a saccharine, sodden cole slaw. Get the potato salad instead if you need a side dish. Although I've had better, it has sweet pickles in it and ain't bad at all. Who needs long road trips to Philly when Philly Originals is less than an hour from Pittsburgh?
google avatar

Jay E.

Yelp
Terrible. The first two rules of a takeout place, at least I thought, was keep the place clean and make sure you have enough people to cover the meal rushes. Used to love this place. Now it's not very clean, and the staff was routinely handling money and then going right back to the grill. Ick. Plus, I walked in at 12:30 and finally got my two sandwiches and a side 60 minutes later. One guy was doing the lunch rush, filthily as noted above. Then his younger friend arrived to take even more orders and barely help on the grill. Finally at 1:25 the apparent owner strolled in. As least he washed his hands before starting to help with the 10 order backlog. By the way, they took an hour and still got my order wrong. Awful experience.
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Ok, look...I had lived in Philly for a decade so I'm going to try and be impartial but here's the truth: it's hard to duplicate Amaroso's rolls and I haven't found one yet that comes close. And even if you've just visited Philly you've probably had either Pat's or Geno's (or both) and the truth is for locals, they aren't in the top 10 of the best in Philly...they are just the most famous, so chances are you haven't had a good one either. That said this place is makes a pretty good, not the best, Philly cheesesteak and probably as good as you'll see not being in the Delaware valley. I would certainly go back. Any gripes? The onions weren't cooked very long. If I found myself back there I would ask for them to be cooked a little longer. Also, for $7.45 it was maybe only 7-8".

Yelp
Best steak sandwich my wife and I ever had!! Steak and cheese and that awesome crunchy bread oh-my! I honestly wanted a second one! The prices were great, the staff very friendly, and the Black Cherry soda from Philly was the best! This is a must try! We can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Leira M.

Yelp
I want to thank Philly Originals for being one of the only places open in Beaver on Sunday. It's the most authentic Philly cheese steak I've ever had since I've never been to Philadelphia. Visiting from Florida, we loved it! The cordeon bleu sandwich is good too & yummy fries. Quaint and comfortable. Quick service, nice staff

Yelp
Philly Steaks are great -- love the pepper and onion medley. Those French fries with nacho cheese sauce are delightful. Food is heavy though from the bulk of the fresh bread and my own insistence of ordering fries so it's not a weekly or even monthly indulgence for me. Atmosphere is not so inviting -- I would prefer to pick an order up rather than eat there, but the food is best eaten hot and fresh. There is parking on the street, but access not as convenient as places with their own lots especially during busier traffic times.
