"Japanese-style cheesecakes are selling out at the new Goodthing Coffee in Burlingame. The cafe is a space led by Shuo Yang, a trained pastry chef, and her husband Vincent Lan. Along with the cheesecakes, there will also be other items, such as Dubai chocolate cookies, strawberry chiffon cake, and madeleines. And their coffee program features non-local roasters such as Dak Coffee Roasters from Amsterdam and Coffea Circulor in Sweden, and they serve the popular einspanner, a Viennese coffee drink topped with whipped cream." - Justine Jones

Whenever we’re in town we ALWAYS find the nearest Philz. We can count on the coffee to be delicious, the staff to be friendly and efficient, and the almond croissants never disappoint!

Google
Great coffee as always. A bit of a wait but I have to. Say it is 💯 better tasting than other coffee shops. Good place to sit and chill as well. Service is great.

Google
Look at how beautiful this cup of coffee is! I’ve been coming to Philz coffee since I was a kid back in the original location in the mission district! Now living in the peninsula I can’t help but grab a coffee from the Burlingame location almost 7 days a week yes 7 days 🫣 no regrets!! The staff in Burlingame is always so friendly and I look forward to saying hi to them all to start my morning! Medium iced oatmeal cookie light almond milk light honey! Order a Julie’s Ultimate and in the notes ask for oatmeal cookie! Thank me later!! Thanks Philz Burlingame for making my mornings great!

Google
This is the only coffee shop location in the San Francisco Bay Area that sells beans through Too Good To Go, other coffee shops have beans listed on TGTG but there are no ratings, which means they haven't tried selling any. Selling beans on TGTG ensures their drip coffee is always made with fresh beans, rather than using old or expired stock. In contrast, during my time working at their competitor Peet's Coffee, the company policy required us to use expired beans for drip coffee rather than repurposing them for employees, donating them, or discarding them. The pastries both coffee chains sell on Too Good To Go is another example of why Philz is better. Philz sells one day old pastries while Peet's sells TWO day old pastries. Not to mention that Philz coffee is significantly better than Peet's.

Google
Consistently good mochas! Staff is always friendly and gives good recommendations when asked. Cute Christmas decorations in store right now! Only thing lacking is seating, there’s always a ton of people (prob cause it’s good!)

Google
Highly recommend you order online or through their mobile app. Signs were very confusing to say the least. 'Pick Up' to the left and 'Place Order' to the right but the ordering queue is actually to the left and picking up is in the back in front of the baristas. Unlike other Philz locations, you place your order with the cashier and not directly with the baristas. Coffee itself didn't taste as expected almost burnt although it was hot. On a busy Sunday afternoon, it took 15 min which is respectable but I highly recommend placing in advance. Restroom in the rear and no code needed. Some seating inside and more outside but no space heaters. Gets very crowded though.

Google
Tea named Mint Mojito is the most popular! I came for coffee and it was fresh and perfect flavor! Fresh, high Quality breakfast bakery items - waaay better than other coffee shops! Friendly vibe, locals know locals… a place you can hang in or dash!

Google
Loved iced mojito coffee. Not too sweet with hind of mint flavor. Loved with central coffee cake (tart)! Would love to go back soon!

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee places from the Bay Area. Really enjoy this location for taking a stroll through downtown Burlingame. this particular location has some limited, indoor seating, but also some outdoor tables. Free WiFi and bathroom with baby changing table. My go to drink: iced mint Mojito (half oat milk, half creamy, keep it sweet).

Georgina V.

Yelp
Came in to pick up my coffee and when I grabbed it, it spilled everywhere because the lid was partially placed on top. The barista just stood there and I had to ask for a new lid. Mind you I ordered iced and somehow they gave me hot and it burned my hand. I guess properly placing a lid on their cups is just too much work for them now.

Erich L.

Yelp
I don't mind spending a few more dollars and waiting longer for a good coffee. Philz makes each cup to order and they are good at customizing. I'm usually in a hurry or impatient and get a fast to go drink but sometimes I like to get something better and relax. Good place to hang out.

Yelp
(Ryan Reynolds voiceover) The vibe is fab Philz hidden in plain sight off of Burlingame in Burlingame. Bianca warmly greeted me! I was in dire medical need of cyclic AMP and had to replenish my phosphodiesterase inhibitors as many of you already know. When I'm topped off, anything is possible! Isn't that right, ladies? Back to the review...the young lady expertly recommended the Ecstatic Iced Coffee. Large, Light Cream, Light Oat Milk aka Bianca's Way. It is the perfect drink for the sweltering 86° summer heat outside. The Pesto Chicken Sandwich without the sandwich as we do it in LA was absolutely delish. Would order everything again! Much thanks, Bianca! Woohoo!

Yelp
Philz has always been one of my favorite coffee shops and I've only been to this location a handful of times. Today when I went in, the guy who made my drink didn't ask me to let me know if I liked it before leaving to make alterations which they always have in the past. My drink didn't taste like it normally does but I didn't want to go back to have any changes made. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch from the secret menu is usually my favorite and I've been ordering it ever since I heard about it

T F.

Yelp
I loveeee Philz..except for this location. They're always SUPER slow and their customer service sucks - rude and always having side convos. Especially the one at the front with the eyebrows.

Ricky R.

Yelp
I've been an OG Philz coffee lover since the first location in the mission! This is by far my favorite location! The people here are absolutely amazing! I always looks forward to seeing my favorite baristas in the am! Always makes my morning! Can we also talk about how delicious the new Iced Vanilla Date Delight is!! 10000 Stars for Philz Burlingame!

Mike L.

Yelp
Yet ANOTHER review for Philz? You're damn right. Of all of the Philz outposts that I've been to thus far, this one actually reminds me of their original location (RIP) the most. By comparison, the size of the place is somewhat similar (just a handful of tables inside, though with a parklet out front) and even the overall vibe feels rather familiar. Between the couch facing the baristas and the random artwork on the walls, it has the same sort of homely, coziness to it, but with more modern touches. For that reason alone, this location wins some points. Despite how relatively small this Philz is though, it's surprising that it's never been all that busy the times I've stopped in. Most recently, on a random Friday afternoon, one a couple of their tables were occupied and there was just one person ahead of us ordering at the register. To be fair, about a half dozen folks streamed in almost immediately after us, but still - felt quite nice being able to walk right in and order. Mire significantly, it was nice to be able to get a seat so easily, regardless of the fact that we weren't actually staying or very long. Considering the number of times I've been to Philz over the years, you'd think I've tried a bunch of their drinks...but you'd be mistaken. Rather, every time I come here, it's hard for me to deviate from my usual rotation of favorites - Tesora, Mocha Tesora, Gingersnap, and, of course, their signature Mint Mojito. I've had all but the Gingersnap here and my drinks have always been good - never too sweet nor too creamy. The only thing that's relatively less appealing about this Philz is, ironically enough, its location. Despite how much I absolutely adore Burlingame Ave, snagging a space here isn't always the easiest (fine at times, awful at others). As such, making a quick stop to pick up a drink isn't always feasible, but it's far better than trying to do the same at any of their SF locations. Plus, it helps that the lines here have never been all that long. Sigh...I just wish this one was closer to me!

Yelp
I love Philz - i used to live across the street from one and now this is the closest one to me! I always order using the app, so the reviews about poor customer service are things I haven't experienced. I just order and pick-up and it hasn't been a problem. My orders are: 1. Iced Philtered Soul - sweet/creamy (for hot days) 2. Mint Mojito - sweet/creamy (for cheat days) 3. Tesora or Philtered Soul - medium/medium (for cold days) Love the coffee and their breakfast burritos are pretty yummy too!

Melissa H.

Yelp
Highly highly recommend you order on the app! This Philz was bustling on a Sunday at 9am so I imagine the in-person orders take awhile. We ordered 2 Mint Mojitos and they were yummy. We had ordered a medium and a large, and they accidentally gave us 2 mediums instead. Once I let the barista know, they were quick to fix the mistake.

Yelp
On Saturday afternoon, I waited more than 20 minutes for a single cup of coffee. I paid and had to leave before the coffee was ready because people were waiting for me. It seems like you should make more than 1 cup at a time.

Irina R.

Yelp
I try to avoid chain coffee shop but wanted to try this locals' favorite as so many people raves about it. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. I was disappointed to learn that they didn't offer any espresso drinks, only various types of drip coffee. The atmosphere and decor of the place were not my cup of tea plus parking in downtown Burlingame is a hassle. While the coffee itself was decent, it wasn't anything exceptional that would justify returning. I found myself longing for something more sophisticated and creative, but alas, it was not to be. While it might be a decent option for drip coffee, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a broader range of coffee options or an elevated coffee experience the lack of espresso options really made the delicious for me.

Yelp
I recently visited Philz Coffee Primrose here in Burlingame. The ambiance is amazing, the place is immaculate, and the coffee is fantastic. The manager Zack, and he's hands-on and really makes a difference. I highly recommend it 100%

Priyanka L.

Yelp
Pour over coffee. many options. Nice vibe. Good to work from here. Service is great

Jack R.

Yelp
Suffered from the same thing everyone else has been complaining about at this location. Poor customer service with long wait times and not enough staff. Also, it's impossible to get napkins here for some reason. Got my mint mojito and it was bland and the two pastries I got were super cold like they were refrigerated or something. Not a good Philz experience.

Wen W.

Yelp
I gave two stars because Burlingame Philz coffee really needs to step up its game compared with other locations. I have been this location for many years and many times. Service is always much slower than other Philz. Staff spend their time to chi-chat with themself instead of working on taking care of their work. San Mateo Philz is top-notch, completely different from Burlingame Philz. 5 Stars to San Mateo Philz for sure.

William N.

Yelp
Worst experience ever! Waited and waited to order, they offered a free coffee for may paitence. Great! Never came 30 min later. Even watched someone come in order get their coffee and leave. Will never return to this location EVER! Thanks for the response, but it means nothing. Empty at best.

Yasmeen S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop ever! I always get the iced mint mojito with extra sweetness and extra cream. I never get anything else because I'm so obsessed with this drink, but I definitely need to try other ones in the future.

Trisha R.

Yelp
Coffee is pretty good, but they are not good at getting the drinks out very quickly. This store looks pretty dirty inside. Not very clean.

Samuel L.

Yelp
My first time to visit this coffee place . I like their outdoor sitting area, brown wood tables with yellow chairs. But the sitting area is kind of tight. We ordered Iced mint Mojito, Iced Gingersnap and Iced mocha tesora. Among the three I like the gingersnap the best, as it had strong ginger flavor which had prefect match with the coffee.

Polina L.

Yelp
Avoid any expectations. Always. It was my first visit to Philz coffee and when I saw their menu, I thought for a long time about what I wanted to try because all the options looked tantalizing. Eventually, I opted for the cold ginger coffee (and yes, I know that spices look better when they are warmed up, but, based on the Philz menu, you are advised to try the cold version, which I did). It turned out that the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves were floating among the ice cubes and didn't give the drink any of the gingerbread flavor you usually choose this drink for. I was a little frustrated, but was satisfied with a warm Poppy Lemon Slice, which I shared with my boyfriend because he was left negatively impressed with their burrito. That little thing with the paper stuck on it costs 7$, are you kidding? I can evaluate the concept of the place, the taste of the coffee, but I don't think I would prefer this place over others next time.

Yelp
I am not a regular by any means. But I like Philz in the summer when I can try their creative iced drinks minus the sugar and cream. And I think this location is special. It's small, intimate and homey with lovely art on the walls. I'm a big of the iced Mint mojito (who isn't?!) with oat milk instead of cream and extra mint to make up for the honey (though I like a small drizzle of agave). This time the super friendly barista (whose name I am forgetting but she is in the photo!) suggested I try their "secret drink"...which was an iced coffee with a cinnamon hazelnut flavor that she crafted to perfection. Once again it tasted great with just oat milk. And all the cinnamon makes up for adding sugar. If that sounds good (as it tasted), you'll have to ask for the...Dancing Haze. Oops have I given away the secret? Go try it even if you are an *espresso snob* like me--you don't have to tell anyone you did :)

Nancy C.

Yelp
Quick take: A lot of traffic This location has a lot of traffic. I usually come here on my days off work. I can't come here if I am in a hurry. It takes a really long time to fill the orders. When it comes to taste the drinks are just as good as the RWC location. Current favorite is an iced Honey Haze.

Doug B.

Yelp
Still my favorite coffee in the Bay Area. I haven't been here since Feb of 2020 and I've missed it. This location is cozy, and the fast and friendly service was as I remembered it. With the rain and my mask, it took me a bit to find where to get in line to place my order (wearing glasses is even more fun these days!), but the young lady at the counter and the man behind me were both patient while I cleaned and dried them so I could see again. My coffee was perfect -- especially since it was cold and starting to rain -- with strong flavor and just-right temperature. Totally worth the detour on my way from the airport to my hotel.

Jeymmie P.

Yelp
This location is probably the best out of the ones I visit regularly. They are always consistent with the quality and flavor. My drink is usually ready for pick up when I arrive. The staff is quick to check in with you on what you ordered right when you walk through the door.

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro tip: Open crazy early. I heard if it's someone's first time at Philz, they offer a free drink so it's nice to bring out-of-towners here, but of course when I did it, they said they didn't do that.... Highlights: Cute interior with some good seating. Almond Croissant was pretty good. Lowlights: The guy working the register wasn't very friendly and seemed annoyed when I was asking what certain pastries were. Thankfully one of the female workers came to his rescue and she was a gem.

Ian T.

Yelp
Had a small miscommunication with an employee while asking for my drink to be remade. Drink didn't come for a while but the manager was generous enough to cater to my situation. His hostility was very genuine and he's definitely a professional in his craft. Probably the best iced mint mojito I've ever had from a Philz.

Paolo B.

Yelp
Whenever I spend the day working in Burlingame, this is always my first spot to stop for the always delicious Iced Coffee Rose, house way, sweet and creamy! I honestly I'm not the biggest coffee fan, but when it comes to the iced coffee rose, it's the only thing on the menu I order. Normally I drink all my drinks super fast, but something about this drink where I seem to drink it slow and enjoy and the sweet and creamy goodness. Not sure what's in it, but it's the only $6 coffee and don't think twice about ordering. If you are on a time crunch, ordering online for pickup is the most efficient way, but I typically just order in-person because I gotta scope out whether or not there are outdoor seats available. They have 3 long wooden tables and an outdoor parklet area with 4 tables to enjoy your beverage. The wifi is strong enough, even outside, and which makes this location a perfect spot for me for remote work. If inside is more your vibe, masks are required, but they have plenty of small tables available. The staff here is always pleasant to chat with me and they pump out drinks very quick. Maybe one day I'll try something different, but for now it's rose all day!

Annabelle R.

Yelp
Ordered an iced mocha tesora. It was made and tasted fresh, extra mocha low sweetness as requested. Nothing outstanding about the service, but it was satisfactory. Wait wasn't too long, even with an event happening on Burlingame Ave. Clean and cozy setting with some indoor seating and a cute patio area out front. And love the to-go lids with the elevated spout for drinking, to avoid leaks, no need for a straw.

Celeste J.

Yelp
Coffee tastes delicious! I love my Philtered Soul the house way and my husband enjoys his Jacob Wonderbar. I have to say Lela is one of the most cutest and sweetest baristas ever. Seems like a new employee but the other day her service was so great I had to mention it. Always had a smile on her face and I have great conversations with her. You can tell she shows interest in people and I've never felt more cared for by someone working in customer service. She was a bit under pressure but made sure my husband and I got our online orders on time. Was very kind when I asked for customizations. The store is very alive and has a warm environment. The pictures on the Philz app is a cool touch as well. Way to go Philz you have such a great team.

Al M.

Yelp
I've noticed that they're sometimes inconsistent with the oat milk/honey ratio for their Honey Haze. Not that they've ever made a particularly bad batch, but the taste is different at times and it's a little strange. But it's a Philz and you still can't really go wrong.

Lina O.

Yelp
Nice staff, great coffee! I recommend ordering ahead on the Philz app since they do take their time making the coffee (which is much appreciated!)

Connie L.

Yelp
It took over 30 minutes to get four coffees on a Thursday afternoon even after we submitted an app order (after they made our first two drinks, they needed a reminder to make the remaining two). When we asked them about our drinks about 15 min in, the only response we got was, "We are really backed up right now."

MickiRoo L.

Yelp
Everyone is always kind at Philz and another one that stands out for me is KATHLEEN. I don't think a day has gone by that I haven't seen Kathleen smile and be kind. Even when it's crazy and the line is out the door and she is at the register and you ask how she is doing she is always good and happy. I have never seen her acting stressed when it's crazy busy. If you watch Kathleen she skips a bit when she walks or a bounce to her step. She's the person you want on your team to help you. Thank you Kathleen for always making my day a little bit better. Love your confidence and the kindness that you give to all of us.

Purva D.

Yelp
I ordered a silken soul with medium cream and no sugar and it turned out delicious. They are pretty quick and efficient and this location is very cozy. Would definitely come back when in Burlingame!

Daw M.

Yelp
SERVICE: HORRENDOUS. DO NOT come here. Checked in with my buddy Beau for coffee. Ordered right after he did. He received his coffee within 5 minutes. I waited with my friend for almost half an hour for mine and they claimed they were still working on my order. I just asked for a refund and left coffee-less.

Ali O.

Yelp
While the coffee is pretty good at Philz In general, the extremely rude staff shouted at us when we were trying to figure out how to order. And when we pointed out that the signs inside were confusing, they told us that it was "common sense". Maybe they are much smarter than us, who knows? Any other location probably will offer you the same good quality coffee without the demeaning experience.

Jessica K.

Yelp
I'm writing this review specifically because Isabelle was the most amazing barista and really made my day. She didn't know I was having a bad day, or a bad couple days. I came into Philz because I didn't have the energy to make my own coffee and Isabelle was the one who took my drink order. I didn't know what I wanted exactly, and she patiently waited for me to decide. Isabelle calmly and politely took my order and was the sweetest person while doing it. My drink came out perfect and it was exactly I needed to help make my day a little better. I could tell she was swamped, but a little kindness and a fantastic cup of coffee goes a long way. I just wanted to say thank you Isabelle and I hope you see this.

Azi G.

Yelp
Took 30 minutes to make my coffee. Asked the workers about my order about it 5 times as I watched others who came in after me get their drink first. What's the point of mobile ordering if the people walking in get prioritized first? Never coming back

Mariam A.

Yelp
The taste of real Coffee The menu is very interesting and varied I don't think you've ever tasted anything like rose-flavored Coffee , It's good enough) Very nice staff and everything is clean and fast ))

Karen C.

Yelp
I love Phil's Coffee. The fresh brewed cup of my favorite Silken Splendor coffee is the perfect way to start the morning! The coffee is smooth and aromatic. If you are a coffee lover, you can't go wrong! Five out of five for their coffee! However, if you're in a hurry, this Philz location is not for you. I've been here numerous times and it's always frustrating when the app says your order is ready, but they haven't even started on your order. I think setting expectations is important and my order has never been ready even though the app says it is. In fact, while I wait for my order, almost every other person is also having the same experience. Although I like the coffee, I think the app is lowering the experience when it doesn't deliver. It's okay if the wait time is longer, but please update the app to provide accurate information of when our drink is actually ready!

Karla R.

Yelp
Whenever Im around Burlingame this is my go to. I love to come here to chill outside while sipping a good coffee. Their staff is amazing. They are super friendly every-single-time! Love it!

Blah B.

Yelp
Most Philz I've been to are great, but this one has a ridiculously rude employee. Liz is the worst, she is entitled, rude, poor customer service, poor communication. Doesn't greet you, or say "I'll be right with you." Just completely ignores you and carry's on chatting with her co-workers while you're standing there waiting to order. She even glanced over at me at one point with some side eye, just to initiate more casual conversation with her co-workers while I stood there for 5 mins. She was not making coffee, or cleaning. Just leaning on the counter and chatting. This is not the first time she has been rude to me, as I've been to this location a dozen or more times. She always seems to have some sort of attitude. Some people just have dull personalities, but she seems intent on projecting her negative attitude onto the customer. It's a coffee shop, which requires a minimal amount of interaction to begin with. Philz do yourself a favor and get rid of this employee, her energy and attitude is not doing your business any favors. If I could give a half of a star I would.

Maggie C.

Yelp
Coffee was very tasty. I ordered the half julies/half jacobs sweet and creamy. The cashier recommended adding cinnamon in the filter. It was delicious. The main thing that irked me is that it seemed like the mobile order orders took precedence over my in person order. I had to wait 15-20 minutes for my coffee to be made while about 15 unclaimed MO drinks were made right before my eyes

Yuko H.

Yelp
As soon as I landed at SFO and got my rental car, first place I searched was Philz Coffer location somewhere on my way to first appointment place. I had to wake up at 2:30am to catch the first flight, I was in need of Philharmonic. Street parking only and inside is a bit small and crowded. Same great service and great coffee. 5 minutes into drinking my Philharmonic, i was very awake and gave me just what my body wanted.

Terry J.

Yelp
I had never heard of Philz Coffee before I came to the Bay Area for a very specialized medical procedure. I happened in on my way to pick up some prep materials for my surgery, and had a Tesora Mocha. Wow! Rich, herby, and wonderful! I went back later in the afternoon for another, and managed to make it back a couple of weeks later before my flight home. Really enjoyed the experience, and just made my first online order (we don't have Philz in Chicagoland). A pleasant memory, and an unusually good coffee.

Kaitlin K.

Yelp
I feel like everyone from the Bay Area knows Philz but you're visiting from out of town and pondering a Starbucks run... skip it and come here. Their coffee beans are all unique and carry bold flavors. The Tesora is a cult favorite and worth snagging a bag of beans while here. On weekends my fiancé and I like to treat ourselves to their mint mojito. It has muddled mint, a little sugar and a dash of cream. Truly a treat!

Dennis W.

Yelp
I have a love and a slightly annoyed relationship with Philz coffee in general, so this review isn't fully centered around this location in beautiful downtown Burlingame. It feels like every 3rd or 4th visit to any Philz location results in my stomach having some churning and burning after consuming one of their coffees. You may be saying, well that's a personal problem so try to be objective here. So the thing is, I literally have a daily coffee(with milk) at that mega large coffee behemoth with the color green in their logo, and I cannot remember the last time I had any stomach issues after consuming one of their products. When I do feel brave, I usually go with their Jacob's Wonderbar(dark roast-dark chocolate, smoke, nuts) with medium cream and medium sugar. I do applaud Philz for adding a large size in recent years although personally, this carries somewhat of a health risk for me.

Maria O.

Yelp
I don't know how this got to be a 4-star. This is the first time I've been here and it's like a pit stop. It's busy, the line is to the way outside the door, and there's only one barista at the most working behind the counter and one the delicatessen. I'm being generous with two stars, actually. We can hear the barista calling for someone to pick up the shift someone is calling in sick for. Very unprofessional and inefficient for a business organization.
