Houston's Restaurant & Bar Openings 2024 - Houston - The Infatuation

"Located in an unassuming corner of a Medical Center strip mall, Vietnamese restaurant Pho 5Plus (that’s not a typo, that’s the name) focuses on bowls of, you guessed it, pho. The restaurant serves almost 20 different types of pho, along with a few salads and a couple of milk tea options." - Chelsea Thomas, Gianni Greene

Johnny the owner and Rudy were extremely hospitable and kind! Both of them provided service flawlessly. I come from a vietnamese household, and hands down I can say they have the best Bun Bo Hue (Sorry for the non aesthetically taken photo, my fiance and I just dug in) I've tasted so far in Houston! (Im from Cali) Will definitely be back to try their pho ☺️

Google
I like my Pho spicy. They have all the sauces already set on the table so I can make it how I want. Good portion size and good price. The broth could be a bit more flavorful but with the sauces on the table I was able to get it just right

Google
I rarely make time to write good reviews, but I believe this one deserves it. Johnny and Rudy provided phenomenal service. They both are very respectful and well-mannered. My Vietnamese fiancé gave their Bún bò Huế an "Authentic out of 10," which is a lot of praise considering we've had Bún bò Huế from other restaurants in Houston. We'll definitely come back to try out their Phở next time!

My mom sister my daughter & I are regulars for our spicy shrimp pho. We also get calamari and shrimp. 10/10 CHEFS kiss. the best Pho ever. We love the vibes the service is amazing & we look forward to our weekly trips.

Google
Quick service and really tasty food. I ordered the shrimp and pork summer rolls. This appetizer has a lot of lettuce in it but paired really nicely with the peanut sauce that it comes with. The fried pork dumplings also paired well with the sweet and sour sauce that came with them. For my main entree, I ordered the eye- round and brisket pho. It was like eating a hug in a bowl. I would definitely visit on a Friday and take advantage of their 20% off of everything promo before it ends.

Google
I love coming here there pho is to die for the broth is well cooked and the flavor is all the way there. the service is amazing and fast. I never have a bad experience here. 10/10 💕

Google
Excellent clear, flavorful, hot and tasty broth. The beef was so tender and delicious. The tendon was soft and high quality. Beautiful restaurant. Service was quick. Summer rolls were also really good and the sauce they came with was something special. Great food. Would definitely recommend.

Pho 5Plus is a true gem in the neighborhood! The standout element is Jonny's exceptional service – attentive, polite, and going above and beyond. The food is fantastic, authentically prepared with just the right level of spice. The pork skin on the bone is incredibly tender and delicious. The beef soup combination boasts large, juicy pieces, and the flavorful coffee is a delightful addition. Tonight's experience was not just a meal but a flavorful journey. I'm already planning my next visit to explore more items on the menu. Can't wait to be back! One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the neighborhood, highly recommended

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and had a nice, cozy dinner. Its very unassuming from the strip mall its a part of and almost tucked between other, more obvious, storefronts. We walked in and were greeted by the staff and told to just choose any seat we wanted. It was pretty quiet with maybe 5 other parties in at the time. Wait staff came and took our orders and were super polite the whole time, i started feeling bad for how often I said thank you because it was always met with a you're welcome. Anyways, we ordered the pork and shrimp summer rolls to start. I got the bun bo hue and my partner got a trio meat pho. Food came out quick which was great as we were hungry. Foodwise, I really liked the bun bo hue and pho broth. The bun bo hue had a pretty good amount of meat and it was nice, tender, and flavorful. I was missing my pork blood but that's a personal favorite of mine and considering the general location, unsurprising an "exotic" protein wasn't available. The broth was light but flavorful and perfect for a cold day. I also tried a bit of the pho broth from my partner and enjoyed it. A bit sweet but mostly balanced from what I could taste, nice warm spices and good beef umami. The summer rolls I'd definitely pass on next time. Nothing wrong with them, they just didn't do much for me like the other parts of the meal. Anyways, for a Viet spot near NRG, I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Now I have another local Viet spot to add to my list!

Yelp
I had wanted to try this place ever since I spotted that they had pho with vegetarian broth on the menu last year. I worked near NRG this weekend which gave me the opportunity to stop in. The place was nicely decorated and the clientele was mostly Vietnamese which was a good sign. However, they updated the menu to remove the vegetarian pho which disappointed me. I get it. If it wasn't selling, they shouldn't continue having it on the menu. However, their website that was based on the menufy platform was broken, and I couldn't crosscheck against this. However, what was surprising was that they only had one vegetarian item on the menu, which were the vegan summer rolls. They couldn't make a tofu com dia (rice dish) or bun (vermicelli) because they didn't carry tofu which is surprising compared to all of their competitors including Viet Express across the street. The waiter had already served me water so I decided to order the summer rolls which was smaller in size than other places. It tasted fine and the peanut sauce was sweeter than average.

Yelp
Dropped by Pho 5+ and had a great meal. I got the combination pho and the crispy egg rolls, and both hit the spot. The pho broth was rich and flavorful without being too salty, and the mix of meats -- brisket, tendon, tripe, and meatballs -- was well-balanced and tender. Noodles were fresh and served nice and hot. The egg rolls were a pleasant surprise -- super crispy, not oily, and paired perfectly with the lettuce and dipping sauce. Definitely worth ordering on the side. Service was fast, staff was polite, and the space was clean and casual. Perfect for a quick lunch or low-key dinner. Prices are reasonable, and portions are more than filling. While it may not be the best pho in Houston, it's a reliable, satisfying choice if you're nearby

Yelp
Not worth the drive, for the price? Small portion and not such great taste, just bland! Customer service needs work, I ordered over the phone and they made a mistake. Waiting for refund on first charge because they charged me for the wrong items, and I had to wait longer because it wasn't the correct order. Not even an apology for the mistake! I ordered 2 pho and pork egg rolls, I took pictures but not if pho because I wasn't even in the mood with the waiting and traffic!! No parking either, my daughter kept driving around when it should of been a quick get off and get order! That just ruined experience!!

Yelp
I thought I'd reviewed this place already but here I am! I have been to this place more than a few times and they are consistent! This was my first time actually dining in. I usually order pickup. The restaurant was pretty empty as we'd arrived not too long after they opened. Service was standard. We each ordered a appetizer. The calamari was fried to perfection and I think only $5 a great deal and product. The wonton were really good too per my friend. Now to the main course! I ordered shrimp pho and my friend ordered beef pho. Tk start excellent portion sizes! Very good broth and all the assorted condiments to spruce it up the way you like. This has become my goto for pho! Check it out!

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't stopped by here before. Located in the shopping strip across from NRG, this is a great spot for people in the medical center area. I stopped by for lunch recently and everything was pretty good! Started with the fried pork dumplings and egg rolls. Both very solid and good texture. $5 each. For my main, I had the brisket pho. The broth was surprisingly good and I would definitely have it again. They have all the condiments available on the table as well as providing you with plenty of toppings like bean sprouts, jalapeño, lime, etc. My coworker got the pork vermicelli bowl and it was massive. The only thing I'd knock is that my broth and his meat were not very hot. I'll definitely be back though since it's convenient for the area and good quality. The servers were nice and attentive and they have some discounts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Yelp
We came back and wow did this place get worse. Ordered vegan dumplings (only appetizer without pork or shellfish) and they served pork dumplings without saying anything. When we complained they took the pork dumplings we didn't order and didn't replace them with the ones we did order!!! Asked for pho without cilantro and they served it with cilantro. The server bringing the food didn't speak English so it took forever to get sorted out. If you care about getting what you ordered, go somewhere else.

Yelp
This is an underrated photo place. It is very cozy and the service is amazing. I had the pork dumplings and they were fresh and crispy. The brisket pho was delicious. The broth was perfectly balanced and they were very generous with the brisket portion. I also recommend the mango Thai tea! The service was great and they have 20% off deal on Thursdays which is great because they already have amazing prices. I highly recommend this spot for Pho! Parking: Plenty of free parking in the lot that is in front of the location.

Yelp
We liked the service. It is a nice small suite in a busy center next to NRG. Delicious pho in the med center

Yelp
Food was great and it was very comfortable location for parking. Friendly staff too . We ordered two dishes and both were great. No complaints on anything. I would certainly go back again.

Yelp
The food is so amazing and fresh I'm just salty I didn't know there year long special was coming to an end but the price is still good !! And the food is flavorful the peanut sauce for the summer rolls chef kiss

Yelp
I got brisket pho for takeout. It was very good. Good broth, and it's all about the broth. Brisket was normal. Tender. Food was packaged well. Inside was clean. Staff friendly. Overall, a place I would come back and try more things. They have a big menu so it's not just pho.
google avatar

Yelp
If you work in the med center and are craving some great pho, you no longer need to drive all the way to Bellaire (street not city) Pho 5Plus makes a hearty deep broth with plenty of different cuts for beef eaters. I tried their special today on a gloomy Wednesday and it definitely hit the spot. It took over an old pizza joint in the parking lot across from NRG. A much needed pho place nearby to work. The waiters there were both super nice. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ivy L.

Yelp
I'm a little confused by the great reviews for this place. I saw it open and was super excited for another pho option so close to the med center. There's also a pretty great place a block over on Kirby. I ordered take out one day and was extremely disappointed by what we got. My order came with a ton of noodles but the broth was so lacking. It was a bit on the sweet side and there wasn't any substance/meat in my bowl. I didn't enjoy this place at all - I'm hoping it was a fluke and the quality is better when you dine in. Cause the images on here looks 1000x better than what I received.

Yelp
My husband order pho soup and it was good. I ordered Grill Pork, spring rolls with vermicelli but when I got wasn't grill pork instead they cooked my pork as regular cooked and put it on my vermicelli which I don't like at all. I like my pork char and grill. I am not happy about it and I didn't even eat it. I gave my pork to my son because he likes meat. The server was ok but he could be improve his skill though.

Yelp
I came to this restaurant with a group of friends, we ordered a bunch of pho and rice plates as well as some appetizers. The appetizers were pretty good. We had the pork egg rolls and the spring rolls. I had a small concern with the spring rolls because some of the meat in them didn't look fully cooked but we were hungry and ate it regardless. As for the pho, it was decent--hot and sizzling. I found the broth to be a little bit bland and had to add a lot of sauces to make up for it. The Thai milk tea is really good though, sweet and smooth. My main complaint was that the menu had a confusing deal "buy 5 get 1 free" and the waitstaff didn't seem to understand what the deal meant either. Our party wasn't sure if it was referring to 5 items or to 5 orders. We had a lot of back and forth with the waitstaff and management before we got it all sorted out. Furthermore we had asked for them to separate our bills but when the bill came it was all combined and I had to tell them which items were ordered by who. Thanks to all this back and forth, the food took a while to come out. At least the prices here are pretty reasonable. 10 dollars for some of the pho and 14 for others.

Yelp
Was excited to see that a pho place opened close to the med center! Pho 5Plus is very clean and spacious, and parking is easy. Service is attentive and friendly. I have gotten the brisket and flank steak pho twice. My husband got the bun bo hue one time and then the pho dac biet another time. My little one loved all the food and though he created a mess, staff was very friendly and understanding.

Diana J.

Yelp
Pretty good spot near the NRG stadium. Not a lot of pho around here. Everything was good. But the pho felt like it was lacking a lot of meat... but broth was good. I just had a lot of noodles left when all the meat was gone. Also buy 5 items in any category on menu and get one free! So we got six apps and everything was well fried. Nothing was dry or over fried. Will be back. Lots of parking.
google avatar

Katrina N.

Yelp
Was driving into Houston and decided to eat this pho location! It was such a nice little restaurant and the staff were so friendly! There was an elderly man working and he was very caring and attentive. We got Pho #6, #7 and beef noodle soup #19 and they were delicious, definitely an authentic Vietnamese pho location. However, although the flavor was there, it wasn't as strong as typical pho and bun bo hue flavors. But, there was a lot of meat added to it with a big bowl guaranteed to fill you up! Overall, service and price were great and I would definitely be returning to this location whenever I come back into Houston!

Yelp
4.5 STARS. Good clean restaurant. Calm ambiance. Fried eggroll crispy. Weird they chop the lettuce sp no wrap Pho broth is clear and fragrant. Not too rich. Noodle is nice and AL denti, but not hard. Meat slight pink, the way I like it. Coffee is not sour or bitter. Solid. Overall, it is definitely worth a visit. Solid pho place in South main.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
For Pho, this is a great place. They do serve some appetizers, tho Pho is the main course if varying choices, they don't have much else in the way of Vietnamese offerings. It's Pho, or nothing. The Pho we had was good. Broth was good, not as beefy as other places we frequent, but it was good in a different way. The fried egg rolls were hot and very good! Service was good. The waitress was very attentive. Ambience is casual. The music they play had nothing to do with any asian fare, it was more reminiscent of an old piano bar in 1950's Las Vegas. Was interesting. When we return for the next show, I'm sure were will return.

Yelp
Lumpia on steroids the size of eggrolls. Every bite I was like damn why didn't I have this sooner, and why did it take so long to execute this idea. The lumpia to the fried dumpling pho was great.... their to-go utensils and supplies are top-notch. The only request was that they included more broth. It was so herbally and medicinily invigorating.... I just wish we had more of it so everything could sink below. So if you go, just request it, and they'll hook you up.

Teresa L.

Yelp
Love the fresh and healthy spring rolls! Noticed they have a new menu for 2025 so wanted to post them here.
google avatar

Ricky T.

Yelp
I know you all don't have much of a choice for pho in this neck of the woods. My Pho Tai wasn't bad. Beef was overcooked and vegetable bean sprouts wasn't very fresh but I can't expect a lot from so far away from Bellaire. Waiter took awhile to take our order. Everyone's fried food appetizer came out except my non-fried spring rolls. They totally forgot it then brought it after they realized their mistake. Funny thing is they brought an additional order of fried shrimp confused. Smh.. Not sure why they brought the soup out, let it sit then decided to give our vegetable condiments (bean sprouts, basil, lime, jalapenos) after we requested it. This place is overwhelmed or confused. Get in the rhythm everyone! Pho has been around since the late 1800's, we need to move forward, not backwards!
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
The food was great! You get a huge bowl of your choice of pho and protein. That's very flavorful and delicious. The service was prompt and friendly. The dining area is nice and welcoming. Very clean establishment. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
I had the #6 brisket & steak combo. Very good flavor. Pretty good portion as I saved some for leftovers. Very quick service and good prices. Will return.

Santiago Y.

Yelp
Solid Pho and spring rolls! Staff were very quick and courteous. Definitely coming back!

Yelp

Yelp
Discovered this place two months ago, and we visited three times already! We tried spicy soup noodle, combination pho, vermicelli bowl, and egg roll which were all good. It's going to be my go-to pho place from now on. They have a discount on thursdays as well. Great place to visit around nrg.

Kerri M.

Yelp
We went to try the pho and were not at all disappointed! Everything was so good and fresh and the staff were nice! Another plus is you don't have to wait long for your order. We also had calamari not pictured but it was good too. I definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Sage M.

Yelp
Food was ok. Broth was not deep, felt diluted. Service was mediocre. I got my waiter once when seated and when I was paying. Not very attentive but not horrible or rude either. Restaurant was clean and neat. No complaints for atmosphere. I don't know if I'll be back though. Maybe Togo is better option
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Super cute new pho restaurant, and they even have vegan options! Friendly and inviting staff.

ashley l.

Yelp
Love everything about this restaurant. The staff is friendly, the food is authentic, it's a small setting but seats are always available. It's cozy enough to enjoy a dinner

Jacqueline K.

Yelp
This is a great Pho restaurant and the food is very good. The ingredients are fresh and the taste is very authentic Vietnamese. We love getting the spicey Bun Bo Hue, and the Beef Grapeleafs appetizer. The fresh Spring Rolls are pretty tasty and healthy too. And the Vietnamese coffee is solid. We eat there at least 2-3 times a week.

Anthony P.

Yelp
Great service! The staff is very friendly and food is very delicious! Egg roll was crunchy and pork was perfectly seasoned. Will order again!
google avatar

Valeria C.

Yelp
When we saw a pho restaurant opening up in the neighborhood, man were we excited! Could it hold up to our favorite authentic pho restaurant in Bellaire? Only one way to find out! The restaurant itself is incredibly clean and put together. The customer service was phenomenal! I ordered the Pho Tai and my husband ordered the beef and brisket pho. SOLID. Candidly I do think the egg rolls and spring rolls were a little overpriced, 2 for $5. But over all will definitely return!

Rebecca L.

Yelp
A great addition to the med center/NRG stadium area. Wonderful efficient staff and delicious food. We have dined-in and gotten to-go as well, and the to-go packaging is perfect for the pho and even comes with small packages of sriracha and hoisin sauce. We have tried the tenderloin and brisket pho and the seafood pho. On Thursdays, you also get 20% off. Their thai tea was delicious as well.
google avatar

Dominique L.

Yelp
Welcoming environment! Hopefully the food is a good as it looks. The cashier recommended the combination pho! So that's what I'm trying!
google avatar

Linda N.

Yelp
the food is so good and they have good service and I love drinking tra Thai is very good I love the pho there I went to eat there once with my dad and my dad friend because we have to go to downtown so we're very hungry so we went to eat there

Ally C.

Yelp
Servers are very nice and sweet! The pho tastes amazing as well as the fried food. I am happy we have this new addition to the loop!

Miki M.

Yelp
Amazing food, and the customer service was great very friendly and helpful. Johnny was very kind when I wasn't sure what I wanted was patient and gave some good suggestions. He even helped me out with my food options when I said I couldn't eat beef or pork.10/10 places to go around this area.
