Loved everything about this place! From friendly faces to absolutely delicious fresh meals and cool vibes; will be back. Tried tofu vermicelli and tofu spring rolls (saved them for dinner cause v-bowls are huge) and OMG what a treat! Fairly priced too. Parking is a little bit of a challenge—or it was for me, maybe cause I’m not from the area—but believe me, totally worth it. Don’t sleep on Pho 79!

Located less than a 15 minute walk from Union Station, Phò 79 is a solid choice for Vietnamese noodle soup, rice & pork chops, marinated chicken, spring rolls and boba, Thai tea, etc. Phò portions are generous, soup is savory, everything tasted good, nothing greasy or salty. Service was excellent, prompt & friendly. Interior could use some updating, but you come here for the good food. Dining area is relatively small so there could be a wait during rush hours. Call for takeout orders. Limited street parking. Can't go wrong here. Support your local small businesses & restaurants 👍

Google
the best pho i have ever had... truly. the service was quick and the food was so fresh. i got the pho w rare beef and brisket $14.95. so flavorful i ate every bite. the bowl is huge you could say they served a VAT of pho. the grilled beef and vermicelli with spring rolls was also to die for. the meat was so tender, sweet, and umami. the man who took care of us was so kind and happy :))) so was the man who cooked and brought the food to the table. if i lived in DC i would eat here weekly.

Google
Delicious!! Great pho within steps of Capital hill! Had the vermicelli bowl. Their chili sauce with hoisin and fish sauce was a tasty addition.

Google
It was my first time coming to this place. The pho is super delicious. Very well prepared. The staff is friendly and ready to take your order. The restaurants is very nice and clean. I can't wait to go back and tell you about my next experience.

Google
Delivered by Uber Eats. Nice pho but portion kind of less than expected.

Google
This is yet another gem on the Vietnamese food scene in DC. The food is fantastic and the staff is even better. You can even sit around a bar in front of the kitchen and watch them cook. Very authentic. I’ve had the chick and beef pho, egg rolls, spring rolls and spicy hue noodles so far and will be back often for the seasonal special dishes.

Google
Super fast service! Their food was all very good! Specifically the crispy spring rolls!

Yelp
Had the pork chop dish and what can I say, it was amazing! Thank you James for the recommendation and such great service. Will be back again

Yelp
I certainly cannot deny the food is excellent. Real easy casual environment. I had the vegetarian Pho,but you can't go wrong with any dish The only one observation is that they mentioned that they have ADA compliant restrooms yet certainly not wheelchair or mobility friendly to enter the restaurant.

Yelp
Wanted PHO terribly today to heal a weekend full of fun and poor decisions. I didn't have the time in my work schedule to head to my normal VA Spot, so I tried Pho 79. The PHO was on point- I'd do it again and again. I really loved that they had chili oil to spice things up. Thanks for a great bowl of PHO and chill vibes.

Yelp
as a vietnamese person, this is the best vietnamese food i've found in DC. i got the pho, rice, and vermicelli noodles. everything was great!

Yelp
Food 8/10 Why did this bowl of pho hit so hard. We ordered in because it was way too cold and we were very hungry. The broth was light and clear, while the noodles were chewy and not smushy at all. Quite a large portion. The everything pho had every piece of meat, although it would be nice if they had more than one piece of each kind. Good for the price.

Yelp
Autumn is my favorite season to visit DC. The skies are clear, the air is crisp, and there's nothing better than enjoying a bowl of pho. At this cozy little pho spot, you'll find a warm, flavorful bowl of comfort. The prices are reasonable, the service is quick, and best of all--they have chili oil for that perfect kick of spice! Plus, it's just a short walk from the Capitol. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Pho79 has really great food. A classic pho in DC. Very good quality. The place is clean and neat. It doesn't have a lot of seating but enough to not feel crowded. Parking can be stressful but you may find a spot around the local housing. My only issue with this place is that there a server that takes your order and deliver your food, but when it comes to paying you have to go to the front to pay. It is not a big issue but this could be communicated ahead of time. That way we would t be waiting a lot for our bill. The ice green tea was really good, and I don't even like tea. I will definitely make this my pho spot.

Yelp
Very things make me happier than a big ass bowl of Pho and thats what you can expect here. There isnt a ton of seating maybe enough for 25. The design looks like it used to be a sushi restaurant tbh. They have a ton of variations of Pho. Tbh the differences seemed marginal. All around $15. I think some other places offer a bit more meat but for the affordable price it not a bad deal to add extra meat or noodles. Food came out lightning quick. Maybe 5 mins after I ordered. The staff there also eat the pho on their breaks so you know its the real deal.

Yelp
Food was great! One of my favorite spots in DC and the service was great. The server was really friendly and funny when we went.

Yelp
A pretty solid option for pho in the area. We were waiting for our next bus at Union Station, so we loved that Pho79DC was only a short walk away from the station. The store is quite unassuming from the front, but there is actually ample seating available inside. The price for the pho was pretty standard for how much it is these days -- I wish the portions were enough, though I wish they were a little bigger. I also thought the broth and flavor was good, but nothing that knocked my socks off. The staff was very kind and friendly, making sure to fill our water as needed. This place is a good option in a pinch!

Yelp
Delicious Pho and vermicelli bowl. Great umami in the pho. The negs: Egg roles are easy fry Chinese eggrolls and overpriced at $6 for two. Not authentic. I don't think the Jasmine Iced tea comes with refills so $3 is steep for such things.

Yelp
It's about a 10 minute walk from the Capitol. Where I come from Vietnamese food is everywhere. I ordered number 30, vermicelli with grilled chicken and veggies. It was supposed to have tofu but I guess they forgot it. Service was good for the most part. The guy delivering our food to the table got the numbers mixed up but that's a small mistake that one of the ladies corrected. The chicken was very flavorful and the vegetables were refreshing. Also if you finish your food, I guess you can sometimes win a discount on your next visit. If you're looking for something different from sandwiches then this place is worth checking out.

Yelp
We were able to get seated right away without a reservation. The pho is exceptional! I'm from the west coast where pho is abundant. I enjoyed the fresh rolls and Pho Tai, noodle soup with rare steak. The broth was amazing and full of umami flavor. There's only one size bowl and it's huge! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Restaurant closes at 8:30. We arrived at 7:45 and they refused to let us in. Not a lot of customers seated, either. We thought that was pretty bad.

Yelp
Kids and I were super hungry and very cold (28 deg. day). After seeing the exhibits at the Hirshhorn, this was a short drive and had plenty of street parking. We all craved pho and this place definitely hit the spot! The pho was delicious!!! And then finished with Thai tea boba. Yummy! We are very happy and ready to head home. Friendly service and great location.

Yelp
I was very disappointed in this spot. I checked Yelp for a pho spot near me and this was the only option. I order summer rolls and a regular pho with eye round steak. The rice paper on the summer roll was hard and the sauce was not flavorful at all, I only ate one of them and just left the other roll. The pho finally came out and the noodles were WAY overcooked that when I picked it up the noodles basically disintegrated. The meat quality was really good which was its only redeeming quality.

Yelp
Service was a little shaky but whatever, the food here is fire. We got the grilled pork chop rice and of course it came with the signature Vietnamese kind of rice that is just so good and the pork had this amazing flavor to it that was just absolutely delish. The pho, compared to other pho places I've been, is a little on the smaller side but the broth is super rich and flavorful. There's not much meat provided but the beef was still good. Overall the food is great, would recommend if you're feeling for a little pho. This place's food is nice

Yelp
Soooo good! Stopped here because it was perfect pho weather, and I'm glad I did! The broth was so rich and delicious, and the price wasn't bad for the portion size/area of DC. The restaurant itself had a great vibe, and I loved the counter seating. My server (I think his name was Joe?) was so nice and helpful. Overall, definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're in Capitol Hill!

Yelp
2024 update from our first visit . Consistent 4 stars rating for food: solid, freshly made, pho is a bit skimpy on meat. 5 stars friendly service . Very low prices for DC considering it is right to the Capitol and a short walk away from mediocre but expensive restaurants on Maryland Ave. definitely recommend this place for hearty simple good food on a chilly day
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious! Amazing! Best broth in D.C.! Brought my congested 5 year old here to rid him of his congestion and it was worth the parking headache.

Yelp
Four stars for food only. Food was good and tasty. However definitely skip the Thai tea and passion fruit drinks. Where's the real boba tapioca pearls and real Thai tea? The Thai tea came pre stirred. It was overly sweet and lacked much tea flavor. Instead of the brown caramel tasting tapioca pearls, this drink came with clear mushy tapioca balls. At first glance we thought they forgot the boba and asked the waitress to add boba. She insisted those clear boba were it. My kids have had boba in many cities and many restaurants and this was the most disappointing. No establishment ever sells clear boba in their drinks. Even the food trucks on Constitution Avenue advertised boba tea with the standard brown tapioca balls. PhoDC79 really shouldn't put this item on the menu at all. The passion fruit tea was so sweet from the syrup we had to add ice water to it. Even after adding water it was still sweet. This restaurant makes you pay and tip upfront right after you place your order. I understand if we were ordering to go , but we were seated. This was our first time eating in a small DC restaurant so I'm not sure if this is a common practice now.

Yelp
Very tasty grilled chicken meat plate with rice and eggroll. The rice was soft and the sauce added was good. The veggies on the plate were easy to consume.

Yelp
I was in Washington DC when I found a pho restaurant on Capitol Hill. The food was fantastic, and the staff were extremely friendly. I ordered the pho with everything in it, and was gifted a free egg roll with my meal. This pho restaurant also serves a variety of appetizers and other types of Vietnamese dishes, such as beef, chicken, or pork with rice or noodles. I will definitely be coming back to Pho79Dc. Just know that the interior is small, so there is limited seating. Also, parking in DC is a nightmare, and this restaurant does not have its own parking. Nonetheless, if you're on the Hill, give Pho79Dc a try, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Yelp
We had the bun Bo hue and the beef pho. We enjoyed both and it was nice that they heat their bean sprouts without asking. I'll be back for the big pho challenge

Yelp
I grew up in DC & this is one of my favorite spots ever such a gem. Good service & the pho comes out so fast and flavor is unmatched.

Yelp
Man I did not expect to see a Pho 79 out here in DC. Only know of Pho 79 in CA! It was close to my hotel so I had to check it out. Stepped into a the restaurant with viet pop & viet edm and instantly knew this place was legit haha. Cute spot that's super close to the Capitol. It has bar seating and table seating. Looks small from the outside but there is a bit of room inside for groups of 4-6! Servers were nice and hospitable. I had their Pho Tai Chin (well-done beef brisket pho) and it hit the spot, especially during this cold weather! Meat was good and soft, broth was light and flavorful--it came out so hot! I eventually started sweating from the heat so the cold no longer was a problem. I had their Vietnamese coffee which wasn't too bad. I will admit I've had better lol. Price wasn't too bad for a meal and drink--I think it's pretty average nowadays. Another go-to pho restaurant whenever I'm in town!
google avatar

Sumi K.

Yelp
Vietnamese at Washington D.C. The soup was not too salty and had a good depth. The grilled pork chop was sweet and savory and went well with the fish sauce and the rice noodles. I didn't like that the fact that the restaurant wasn't too organized and clean.
google avatar

Kerry S.

Yelp
The people are cool and helpful. I'd come again. Small place, and you won't be knocked out by the ambiance.

Yelp
My least favorite take out in DC veggie pho so far. Tofu was soaked in grease, which made it flavorful but also greasy. Utensils weren't included, despite request. And the broth - which they said was veggie and not meat - was extremely oily. Calling to get assistance was also a bit of a fail. So disappointing, and in the end, I couldn't eat it. I'm taking a break from pho for a while.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
I'm a tourist, first time here. This place impressed me. Pho and eggroll are excellent, nice services , clean, good hygiene restaurant.

Yelp
I have since been back and tried several different soups. All of it was just as good as the first time. Highly recommend stopping by.

Yelp
Came here for a dinner meeting. The food was great! The service was pretty good but all over the place at times. I can only imagine how hard it is for them when it gets too busy. Parking is not great so we took an Uber. Will definitely come back since it is around the corner from my job. The pho broth was a bit oily but with sriracha and hoisin sauce it was perfect. They ran out of bean sprouts since we came so late in the day.

Haley P.

Yelp
I'm glad I found Pho 79 DC, it's at very convenience location/ walking distance from Union station. Pho Broth is very flavorful and aromatic. It was very yummy. They cooked very well!!

Yelp
Just dropped in for lunch and was really wowed! Huge, fresh portion of noodles, veggies, and flavorful pork. Food was made to order but came out very quickly. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinners while visiting the nation's capital. Service was great and food came out quickly and hot. My daughter also got a bubble tea that was very good. Tempted to return while in town, but too many other places to try!
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
The server dropped a dish of fish sauce which soiled my dress pants and did not even have the courtesy to offer a sincere apology or try to help. I've never experienced such appalling service at a restaurant and expect this place will go out of business if they treat their customers that way.

C R.

Yelp
I ordered from here through Uber eats and wasn't very impressed. The broth wasn't that flavorful and my delivery didn't come with any Thai basil leaves which is a pretty important part lol. The meat was also a bit fattier than I would have liked, but tasted fresh
google avatar

Stan H.

Yelp
I only had the limeade. They also make the lemonade and thai tea themselves. It was refreshing on this Uber hot day of walking. Maybe use more lime? People are friendly. Place is older on appearance in a blah sorta way and not in a historical landmark like interior designer sorta way.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Small family oriented restaurant right next to the Capitol Police Headquarters. Very friendly! Food comes out fast and hot. We ordered the shrimp and veggie summer rolls. While the peanut sauce was a little thin, it was quite flavorful. For entrees we got the pork vermicelli noodles and the lemongrass chicken with rice. The pork vermicelli was very flavorful abundant with noodles and the fried spring roll was a welcome contrast. The lemongrass chicken was delicious. Spot on flavor of lemongrass and the broken rice was tasty. Definitely a place to return too!

William R.

Yelp
Good Vietnamese food. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. My son had pho and liked it. I had bun with pork and egg roll Very good
google avatar

Leesa T.

Yelp
Pho 79 DC is my go to on Capitol Hill for pho. They have authentic broth that's packed with flavor. Their chicken pho has noodles packed in the bowl, and a side of sprouts in a bag with the all fixings. If you live nearby or want to try authentic pho, stop in for a flavorful bowl. Takeout is quick and you won't be disappointed.

James F.

Yelp
The spot where Pho 79 sits now has changed hands a lot in the years I've been here. They're the first restaurant that's had the place that was worth reviewing. I had the meatball soup and spicy broth and couldn't have been happier. The noodles were chewy and a perfect length to twirl and slurp. The bean sprouts were crunchy, the meatballs had a perfect texture. The broth was the real hit though. The broth had layers of deep, rich flavor. This is the kind of rich, slightly fatty broth that you dream of on a cold winter day. It didn't need Sriracha, but it held up well to me dumping some in anyway. Good noodle soup is pure comfort food and these folks nailed it.

Minh L.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed my delicious Pho Bowl #17. Please stop here at Pho 79 DC for your pho cravings! Great customer service and fresh ingredients will leave you satisfied! ML

Jack E.

Yelp
The pho here is excellent. Extremely fast service. You can be in and out within 30 minutes which is perfect for lunch break. I will be back frequently for the friendly fast service and excellent pho. Also the fresh spring rolls are great here. Peanut sauce is on point. Takes me right back the vietnam
google avatar

Alexander B.

Yelp
Authentic Vietnamese food, hands down. Customer service was friendly and excellent, always with a smile. Ambiance is your standard modern and casual sit down with nice music. Highly recommend and that's coming from a Vietnamese American who has tried Vietnamese food all over the states! Chili oil is superb, better than most Chinese restaurants
google avatar

Kitty G.

Yelp
I'm super satisfied with the kind service from here. The food is good, and that chili oil was chef kiss
google avatar

Annette L.

Yelp
The area is very convenient to get to and once inside the restaurant, it is very spacious. The service is set up as a kitchen bar area where there is seating as well as traditional tables. The food arrived very fast and the payment method was very convenient with a tap of a card to pay. The food was very well portioned and tasted good. I had the Pho and the Thai Iced Tea which was amazing.

Yelp
Boost In A Bowl any time I feel a little spent I come here and get recharged.. the broth is delicious the service is nice and the ambience is clean and fair..
