Pho Asia has become go to authentic Vietnamese food in South Jersey. After many pho focused trips here, my wife and I decided to start trying some other stuff on the menu.
We started off with the Salt and Pepper wings. A definite hit! Great crispiness, and flavor without being too salty.
For dinner, my wife had the Banh Xeo. Nearly a miss on this one. The pancake was flavorful enough, but the consistency was lacking, to thick in some place and too thin in others. Also, the toppings (pork/shrimp) were a little sparse. The biggest problem in my eyes, however, was the lettuce. Tiny little shards of romaine that didn't make for a proper, dip-able roll. We'll probably try it again, as it is a favored dish... just hope next time it comes up a little better. Also, every time we have eaten, my wife has been warned away from ordering because "it could take 20 minutes".... she went for it anyway, and the Bahn Xeo came out at the same time as everything else.
I had the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio. It did not disappoint. While the summer rolls were a little loose and the filling crumbly (causing the filling to fall out of the roll), the filling was flavorful. The pork was tasty and moist, the noodles were cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were bright, fresh and crisp.
Like usual, the service is the one lacking aspect of the experience at Pho Asia. For example, we were provided forks instead of chopsticks (profiled?). When I eventually managed to get the waitresses attention ask for some, she came back in a minute, drop 1 set on the table without giving me a chance to explain that we both wanted a set. Pretty standard here... it's difficult to get their attention, and the response is generally lacking. But...
We will still be coming here primarily for the Pho (some of the most flavorful broth we've had outside of Vietnam), but there is still a lot of menu to explore.
