Me and my family love coming here! The service is always wonderful and the food always tastes so fresh. I always come for their Bún chả cá. Noodle soup in a mild spicy broth with fried fish cakes. It’s amazing.

Good food and good service. Homemade sauce and sausage. Recommend this place.

The food here is delicious and filling, and the portions are very generous. Even for a small bowl of pho, I was stuffed after finishing it. The prices can't be beat, and the staff are very polite and quick to serve us. Their delicious pho and quick service make up for the tight restaurant seating (it looks like they've expanded on table seating). I recommend eating here at Pho Bac.

I ordered a Bun Cha Hanoi with a side of Spring rolls and it tasted amazing. The service was great and friendly, I was happy with the pricing as well. I had a superb time time. Definitely gonna recommend my friends to all come as a group next time!

This is our favourite pho place in all of Ottawa, food is incredible and the service is even better!! Always a great experience. The portions are very generous and the taste is *chef's kiss*, delicious broth and always quality meat. Plus the rice dishes are outstanding!! Come for the pho, stay for the staff who always make you feel welcome and taken care of. It’s the kind of place where the food hits every time and the service never disappoints.

Pho Bac Oriental is under new ownership. The previous owners retired at the end of 2018 and sold the business to the current owners who owned Pho Bo Ga 1 which was on Lebreton. I am so thrilled by this because I remember walking by Somerset and Lebreton and being sad to see that Pho Bo Ga 1 had closed down. So Pho Bo Ga 1 lives on at Pho Bac Oriental! (There's another restaurant where Pho Bo Ga 1 is. It's a new owner and they changed the name). The new menu is more extensive than at either restaurant previously. They still have Banh Cuon, which is rare to find in Ottawa. I got the grilled beef and spring rolls vermicelli ($12.50) and it was great. The beef was lean, plentiful and flavourful. The slices were very thin, but there were lots of slices. The spring rolls had the authentic rice paper wrapper, and the wrapper was all blistery. Yay! I love authentic Vietnamese spring rolls. It was filled with ground pork, black cloud fungus mushrooms, and vermicelli. There might have been some taro in it as well. The vermicelli came with lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, and bean sprouts (which I forgot to tell them to omit). The vermicelli was hot (in temperature) which I enjoyed. I don't like it when it's just tepid. It also came with a side of fish sauce (which I didn't use). Service was very friendly and quick. I liked the little decorations in the restaurant like the mini pedicab on the window sill near where my table was. I got a complimentary pot of tea as soon as I was seated. They also give you the menu with a paper and pen. You write down your order and they come and get it. When you're done you pay at the cash register. Overall, a very pleasant experience and tasty food. I would recommend!

Wow! I don't know how I have never been here after living here for 20 years. I tried the spring rolls and the fresh rice rolls. Both were great. The rice rolls were fresh and soft. The spring rolls were made with rice sheets rather than traditional spring roll wraps so they had that nice uneven texture. Everything was fresh and served with a generous quantity of fish sauce, hot peppers, and mint and basil leaves. Go try these if you haven't! So good!

I love the spring rolls here! Different from your average spring rolls, these ones are fried with rice paper so that they have a crispy outside and a chewy inside. Love it! I especially like the value of them; at $6 (the average price of spring rolls in the area), you get two extra large spring rolls! That being said, the pho was pretty average. It wasn't as hot as I would have liked (the bowl I had was a little more than lukewarm) and I wish there was a little more variety in the meat. Not bad though. Overall, this is a quaint little shop. You can tell that it's family-run by the decorations on the wall. It's really quite cozy. Service is quick and friendly too! Would I go again? Definitely - if I were in the area and craving pho.

So I actually haven't tried the roll your own paper wraps until going here. Very impressed, ingredients were very fresh and it was quick! It was fun to make your own rolls, and the bbq grilled meats were delicious and charred just right (pork, shrimp, Vietnamese sausage)...I wish they could give more grilled meat, but the quantity was good as is. They also have some unique menu items which I plan on trying next, such as a pho with snails in it!

I think this is the only place that serves banh cuon. It's my favourite and finally they satisfied my cravings. On top of that, they make the sausages IN HOUSE. I loved it so much I had to ask the owner to sell me a roll. This is a must try locations the soup base is not as salty as other pho restaurants but it's what makes it more homey. The other places may be more flavourful but this place offers a healthier version. coming back FOR sure !

I recently moved to Ottawa and live in Chinatown. I'm trying to go to a different vietnamese restaurant every time I eat out in the neighbourhood and Pho Bac on Somerset is by far my favourite to date. The food just tasted really good. They had Banh Cuan on the menu, which is hard to find, and the Bun was totally tasty. Will definitely be back to try their Pho.

Located on the fringes of Chinatown, Pho Bac is worth the short walk from downtown. The pho broth is the best I've had in Ottawa. The flavors explode with the addition of lime. The quality of the beef used in the rare beef pho is average...personally I would prefer a higher quality, thinner cut. They are known for their deep fried spring role with shrimp and beef . The role is large enough for four and will satisfy anyone with a slight grease craving. My favorite aspect of Pho Bac is their friendly, down to earth service. They had no issue accommodating a special request for fewer noodles in my pho and the service was prompt and efficient. We'll be back.

This small noodle soup restaurant is often overlooked on Somerset Street, but the spring rolls are probably the best I've had in the city. Although the decor may seem outdated to some, they say to never judge a book by it's cover! My order of spring rolls was $7.00 which does sound pricey but I received two HUGE spring rolls on top of a bed of rice noodles. They are real Vietnamese spring rolls made from pork, mushrooms and noodles wrapped in rice paper then deep fried, giving a crispier, savoury bite than conventional wonton wrappers. I also ordered stuffed chicken wings on rice, where the chicken wings were stuffed with the same fillings as the spring rolls. I have no idea how you stuff chicken wings but at that point, I didn't care as long as it's stuffed my hungry self. If you're ever near Somerset and Preston, stroll up to Pho Bac and try their spring rolls. Often visited by regulars, you'll soon become one.

It will never win any trendy eatery award, but I think this unassuming, family-run restaurant has been around for at least two decades, serving Vietnamese food in the fringe of Chinatown west. Inside the small and casual setting, you will find a menu that offers homey-tasting items that are rarely available anywhere else. The deep-fried, special Vietnamese spring rolls have a crispy and meaty filling that reminds you of the common egg roll - but better. The broth in the pho has richness and depth - although I have to say I'm not crazy about the beef balls that contain tiny bits of tendon (they tend to stick between the teeth). Go for the food and then do your partying elsewhere.

Best Pho and spring rolls I have ever had. I always get the seafood Pho and it is amazing.

Dirty little place. Average pho at best, with very little meat. $1.50 surcharge when using credit card for an amount below $20.
