Where to Eat the Best Pho in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"While many folks head out to New Orleans East for banh mi at Dong Phuong and less common Vietnamese dishes at Ba Mien, the quiet Pho Bang shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to a lunchtime bowl of soup. Try the ultra meaty Pho Bang house special featuring tripe, flank, brisket, ‘navel’ and tendon." - Eater Staff

This is my second visit as the first one was very good. On my last visit I asked waitress if on my next visit if I ordered the beef shank stew would the meat be tender.I know as a cook shank meat needs to cook long and slow. She assured me it was. So now I came back for it. While the soup tasted good, the meat was not eatable because it was so tuff I could not cut it with a saw blade knife, let alone stick a fork in it. I left a pile of the meat on a dish to have staff see that I couldn’t eat it, it was so tuff. They said they’d let the boss know. I’m not giving up on the place and I’ll be back to try other items.

Google
I was very disappointed with my experience. I found a worm/larva in my pho soup. When I informed the server, they simply said it was part of the vegetables and walked away without addressing the issue. This is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about food hygiene and customer service. I hope the management takes this seriously and improves their quality control. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to others.

Google
First time eating here. The food was very flavorful and delicious! And with the amount of food you get, I didn't feel like it was over priced. The wait staff was fast and friendly. This will be a nice place to add to my monthly workday lunch rotation.

Google
Pho Bang is my FAVORITE- easily THE best pho I’ve had in the states!!! Even though I’ve moved away from New Orleans, I always come back here whenever I’m in town. I always order the tofu pho with beef broth; the broth is so flavorful and rich. The tofu rolls are great, and the pho tai chin has tender meat with good portions. I think about this pho all the time... I used to visit every Friday night for a hot bowl of Pho even in the summer... I can’t recommend Pho Bang enough—don’t forget to try it with the chili oil. Best pho ever~~~ P.s. the other location at Gretna is just as good!

Google
Fantastic Pho, and wonderful Bun Bo Bue(which is served Saturday and Sunday) can be had here! They are very generous with the portions and load it up with meat which was so tasty! The broth is amazing and flavorful as well, very full bodied! Everything else on the menu looked good too, but we were in the mood for soup. The waitress who served us was very friendly too, and always checked in on us and made us feel welcome.

Google
Amazing Vietnamese restaurant with delicious dishes full of flavor and history. Recommend for anyone looking for a unique dinning experience.

Google
The best pho in Metairie hands down. Service is always amazing and the staff is very attentive and kind. Sometimes I sit down and they’ll know exactly what I want without saying anything and I think that’s an undeniable sign of a staff who cares. Also the pho is incredibly consistent, manages to warm the tummy and soul.

Google
My favorite location by far!!! When in the mood for Pho then Pho Bang!!!! Love the crab Rangoon! Salads are amazing, Pho Tom Luoc /Nuong is my go to. Must try. The service is impeccable, very attentive staff

Yelp
Now New Orleans is all about seafood, but we were all about these Mango Slush from Pho Bang! We walked here almost daily while visiting our friends for a week and it was addicting. Very sweet and delicious mango flavor , if you're looking for a nice treat, you will find amazing ones here!

Yelp
The Pho was really and spicy! I'm talking will clean you out lol And the steak and rice was really good along with some soy sauce.. would definitely get that again. The server was okay.. she thought we didn't understand some of the things she was saying but once she realized we did. Everything was good..

Yelp
Our waitress was soooo rude . I will never come back here again ! Normally at the other Pho Bang restraunts when I get hot tea I ask for a second cup and they give it to me no questions asked. (My dad and I always drink this together because, I can't finish it on my own.) When I asked at this restraunt the waitress tells me she has to charge us for two drinks since I asked for a second cup to share MY drink with my dad ???? My dad and I are so confused and we're looking at each other and she gives us a ugly look. A different waitress brings our check in the end and we ask for a to go plate and then a third waitress brings us our change . We were about to leave without the to go plate because they were taking forever and then the second waitress comes back and asks me if I still want it then proceeds to put the stuff in the to go box with her bare hands. I highly recommend going to claires or manhattan before this one they are way more professional.

Yelp
During the strange COVID-19 times it was nice to try out a new restaurant. This is the former location of the Alpine Clocks and Jewelers that I used to love to visit to see their great knife selection so I was very sad to see that place leave (they still have a location on the North Shore) but I was glad to see a Vietnamese place open here. Most of my Vietnamese restaurants seemed to be either closed or carry out only during the pandemic times so I was quite pleased to find Pho Bang was offering normal inside sit down dining at this location. Pho Bang is a chain with several locations in the area and I have eaten at one other Pho Bang years ago in the area which I still have that Yelp review for and to summarize it wasn't a good experience back then. This experience was completely different as everything went fantastic and the food was cooked perfectly. They even asked if I wanted anymore vegetables with my pho which is a very rare thing to happen. Their pho veggie mix was a bit smaller than some other places I like but I really appreciate that they asked if I wanted more. My brisket and eye of round pho was delicious and much needed as it was the first pho I had eaten during the entirety of this pandemic. Before all this madness happened I was eating pho at least twice a week so pho had definitely been missed in my life. The service was great and they kept my iced jasmine tea full and were very efficient and professional in ensuring I had all that I needed. Overall this was a great experience and I'm glad to see they have greatly improved from my previous experience years ago with this chain. In these strange times it was also fantastic to get a good bowl of pho. As so many things continue to be closed I'm sure I will be back here sooner than later.

Yelp
We used to eat here a lot, but the quality of the food and service has gone down significantly. During our last visit, we found multiple hairs and what appeared to be black burnt flakes from either a dirty grill or pan in our food. We won't be back.

Yelp
One of the best places that you can find in Metairie. The broth is delicious and always fresh added ingredients. My favorite is the fatty brisket with broccoli and carrots. So delicious and soothing to my belly. When I am doing Low Carb, I ask them to hold the noodles and it is still delicious. My daughter works close by there and it has become one of my favorite lunch places when I want that soothing comfort food. The servers are courteous and are consistently making sure that you are ok and whether or not you need anything.

Yelp
Did a to go order for lunch and just got the chicken pho but really wanted shrimp. They were nice about adding shrimp to the side. All of the additions were so great. I loved they the broth was not pork or beef based. Will go back here again. The service was pleasant.

Yelp
I have dined & done take out dozens of time at Pho Bang. Service is always prompt & courteous. Food is outstanding!

Yelp
Small restaurant but decent food. Prices aren't bad and it's a good place to go for nice meals. Staff is pretty nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic Vietnamese food in a homey setting conveniently located on Vets in Metairie. My favorite is definitely the Bun Bo Hue beef soup--I could take that broth in a to-go cup and drink it anywhere!

Yelp
Typical Pho restaurant... definitely no BANG but good. Pho was hot but broth lacked flavor. Would I return definitely not but give Pho Bang a try and see for yourself fellow Yelpers. So let it written... So let it be EATEN!!
google avatar

Rebeca G.

Yelp
Consistent, quick, reasonable prices. Oh, and they open early, in case you wake up feeling rough.

Yelp
Awesome. Favorite pho place in the city. Great appetizers, food and service. Much better than their other location near the airport.

Yelp
It's always a pleasure dining at pho bang. This place is special to me....The pho is always good. The service is also well. Sometimes they play music while ur eating which is always a plus. The staff stocks all of the condiments for the tables at the end of the night so there is never a worry there. My only issue was I do wish I received more boba considering it was 6+ dollars but besides that I've been dining here for over a year now and I really like it.
google avatar

Scarlet M.

Yelp
Yum! Yum! Yum! In my humble opinion they have some of the best Pho I've ever had, better than, ya know (D.F) that place in the East!
google avatar

Mari D.

Yelp
Haven't had a bad meal here. The service is quick so I would definitely dine in if you get the chance. The dining area is quite spacious so we've never had to wait for a table. Even during peak dining hours. The pho is some of the best I've ever had in New Orleans! The shaking beef was also very tasty and I love that it's served with beef broth on the side. Don't forget the Vietnamese coffee! :') There's a good amount of parking around the restaurant.

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch here on our way back home yesterday. A solid choice. The setting is very casual but clean. The service was good. The food is solid. We had: Cha Gio - 4/5: The eggrolls were good. My wife thought they would be fried a bit more, I thought it was fine. Pho - 5/5: I had #14 with the fatty and lean brisket. The broth is very flavorful and the meats were delicious. I would definitely go back if I had a chance.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings on this place. They have messed up my to go order every time I have ordered take out. It sucks because the items that were correct were so yummy. But it has happened on multiple occasions. Not worth the hassle or the mistakes in my opinion.

Gregory J.

Yelp
I ordered soup and the soup was lukewarm and the owner had the nerve to say that my soup got cold because I added a few bean sprouts. Give me a break I know whether the meal I received was too cold and if a few bean sprouts cause the soup to be cold then it's not hot enough. I have been adding bean sprouts to pho at several pho bang restaurants and this the only one where the bean sprouts caused the soup to get cold. Please don't insult my intelligence with this bean sprout nonsense.

Yelp
Pho here been one of the best around the GNO for the past 3 decades. Always tried going to new places around and they're not bad either. But this place pho have a special place in my belly

Yelp
I had lunch at Pho Bang and it was good. I was meeting a friend and was a little early so I ordered a hot jasmine tea. My sweet server brought me a shiny, silver teapot full of fresh, piping hot tea. It was delicious! When my buddy arrived I ordered the grilled pork salad. The pork was very flavorful, but was a little thicker than I am used to. The salad was a basic iceberg lettuce salad with three pieces of sliced tomatoes and a few cucumbers. It was filling, but light enough to keep me from feeling overly stuffed. The service was fantastic.
google avatar

M K.

Yelp
Good vegetarian pho, appreciate the good packing of all of the items, pretty efficient for take out (haven't eaten in yet)
google avatar

Jacquie M.

Yelp
Excellent food, friendly service and a clean quiet dining room. I ordered: 1-Crab Ragoons with housemade sweet sauce 2-Pho Tôm Luôc/Nuörig- Rice noodle beef soup with shrimp. Comes with a dish with fresh jalapeño, sprouts, basil and lime wedge. Delicious!

Yelp
Pho Bang must be doing something right because they have multiple branches The restaurant has a clean and modern look. The menu is modern. Service staff is good. Staff collected our orders promptly and the kitchen got it out in short time. This was my first visit and only tried couple of menu items. Vietnamese egg rolls (chả giò) were good. Of course, this is main staple of ant respectable Vietnamese restaurant. On the other hand their shrimp salad was not very good. This is New Orleans, and nobody ever should serve overcooked rubbery shrimp in their restaurant! The dressing on the salad resembled the sauce that they serve with the egg rolls except in tasted like as if it was diluted. I'm not opposed to going back to rate their pho but we really have some good pho in a lot of other places around town thanks to our large Vietnamese-American community.

Yelp
I had a great meal today. Woke up craving pho and they did not disappoint. The waitress was very attentive and made sure we had all we needed. I love that we can sit where we want, I always get a window seat I recommend!

Yelp
Great service, awesome prices, short wait and good pho. I will drive in from New Orleans more often!

Yelp
Horrible Rice noodles were extremely hard. Also, I had some hair in my food.Worst pho restaurant I ever been to.

Yelp
I was so excited to find out that a Pho Bang finally opened in Metairie! I've always driven to the one in West Bank for the pho when I have my cravings. Good to know there's one closer now to feed my addiction/hangovers. My "go to" at pho bang is: 1. Large Pho with Tendon, Brisket and rare beef: Hands down the best pho in New Orleans. The broth is so flavorful and thick. I can tell the broth is richer than other places because I always order to go since I can't finish it and the next day the broth becomes gelatinous. Most other locations that doesn't happen. They also give the most amount of beef and tendon in comparison to other chains. A large pho came out to only about $10.10 after tax and it lasted me 2-3 meals. 2. Grilled Lemon Grass Chicken: AMAZING! Perfect flavor of chicken with the chargrilled taste. I also love the dipping sauce with it. Goes perfectly with the rice. This location just opened up yesterday 3/14 and it's right on Veterans near trader joes/Ochsner clinic. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, a must go to! Best pho in New Orleans hands down for the price. The portions are huge and the quality is just as good as the one on Manhattan which is the biggest plus for me since it saves me so much gas. All that saved gas money can now go into feeding my Pho Bang addiction.

Asa A.

Yelp
This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in town Pho is very tasty My kids love all of the foods in their menu Always happy with their service

Yelp
This pho broth is PHOnomenal! *insert chefs kiss* Great flavor! Amazing service! Beautiful, clean seating! Honestly, this was one of the best pho places I've ate at. PHO real - you have to try it!

Yelp
I went with a co-worker for lunch. It was very busy with a 10 min wait. Staff was friendly and nice. Food was fresh and came out quick. Clean place and reasonable prices.

Yelp
Review Date: 8/19/22 We have eaten here many times, in the West Bank and in Metairie. The food is always delicious. The broth is delicious and the veggies are always fresh. The meat always fresh as well. Large portions and reasonably priced. Food four 3 people plus left overs for $56. The egg rolls are delicious. Place always clean. The service is great. For more NOLA reviews follow me on Instagram #thenolacritic. We will keep going there.

Yelp
Standard Vietnamese fare in a casual setting @ very low prices. It gets very busy @ times.

Yelp
I've eaten at this location on many different occasions. First time I've eaten here since I moved to the northshore but was expecting their usually solid offerings of pho, bun bo hue, etc. Not sure if the management changed but I didn't recognize any of the workers and the food was pretty horrible. 1) the ga roti: holy crap, I've never seen a smaller chicken than what they offered. Not to mention they skimped on all of the vegetables and didn't even have nuoc mam pha. I had some weird sauce that was maybe some Sriracha, hoisin or oyster sauce. The chicken was good though but it was 12$ for something barely the size of a drumstick. 2) pho portions were small and not very good. Missing most of the usual cartilage and tripe typically found in pho dac biet. Bo vien or the meatballs were pretty good. 12$ for these tiny bowls. Used to be 12$ for XL. 3) the bun bo hue was horrible. They masked some weird concoction of two different soup bases together and tried to pass it off as bun bo hue which is usually heavily lemon grass in flavor. This crap tasted like pho broth with bo kho which is totally different aside from having beef in it. The worse part? They took it back and still wanted to charge 50% because they don't "give free food". They also charged for the pretty awful bowl of pho they replaced it with. So 150% for two pretty bad dishes. It's like ordering a burger and getting a bad pork chop and they gonna take it away and almost fully uneaten and still charge you for it. Please save yourself some anguish and money and hit up pho sunrise instead. This place has fallen off y'all. Tldr shrinkflation, bad food, bad service.
google avatar

Priscilla R.

Yelp
Pho Bang is my go to! The location has a decent amount of parking and you can most likely always get a table. Their Pho, vermicelli, rice plates and appetizers have all always been 10/10. And on weekend their Bun Bo Hue is phenomenal and something i always look forward too. The place is clean and service is relatively fast but dont be afraid just to walk up to the counter and ask for something they will always accommodate! They also have a wide variety of drinks to chose from and they are good! The only negative i have is that im not the biggest fan of their bahn mi but there are plenty of other dishes to chose from so its not a big deal.

Yelp
Pho Bang A friend of mine told me about their favorite place to get great pho. He spoke very highly about @phobangnola, so I had to check them out one day for lunch. I visited the Bonnabel location to see if it was as good as he said it was. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. For lunch I ordered the Pho brisket, and added shrimp and veggies. The shrimp were grilled perfectly, however I did not like that the tails were left on. The brisket was cooked perfectly as well, a little pink to begin with and then cooked more as it stayed in the broth. Unfortunately, the veggies came on the side and I added them in slowly. I would've preferred for them to already be in the broth, to start building flavor. My server Thuong was great! She gave great suggestions, and based on that I ordered bubble tea. They were out of the tapioca balls that comes with the tea, so I got the jelly. The tea was yummy, but the jelly wasn't my fave. To be clear, I would definitely go again but would need to make my requests a little more specific. Flavors were definitely there, and for that I would rate it a 4/5.
google avatar

Rebecca F.

Yelp
I requested pho for dinner last night and my boyfriend brought me takeout from Pho Bang, which he had never heard of but was on his way. We've both had almost every pho restaurant in the city and this was the best broth I've ever had in my life! It was so delicious and we ate every drop! I'll definitely be back.

Andrea G.

Yelp
Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and no fuss. I has the pork rice dish and I would definitely get it again! Place is large and has parking so it's very convenient for lunch/dinner.

Kim D.

Yelp
I do not recommend this place‼ This place has the worst customer service. I just stood at the counter for 3 mins u til I got acknowledged they have the poorest customer service there after was. It's like they think they're too good to wait on the delivery drivers. It's really unbelievable and mind-boggling. It really is so I'm standing there for two minutes and then she tells me I give her the name and she says oh it's gonna be eight minutes now but you think I'm a stay there for 10 minutes to wait for this order when it should be ready right now!!!! I'm over you Foto bang and I will never come back. I will decline the order to come back to this place.
google avatar

Marty M.

Yelp
Pho was really good, but whats better is the service. Friendly and helpful server. Food was quick and delicious. Will come here again.
google avatar

Carl K.

Yelp
Honestly one of the best pho places in the city. First off, They have other dishes other than pho, but my main "expertise" is with the the pho. They have an extensive menu with a good variety of meat - the only thing they're missing is some kind of seafood pho. But that's okay!! At least for me. I usually go with the number nine, but to be honest, all of them are really good. They give a good amount- actually, a great amount of meat and the noodles are cooked perfectly. Their soup is just delicious and for only two dollars more you can go with the large. It's a really great value for the price. I also get the crab lagoon and it's the perfect amount of crab meat and cream cheese. Try it!!

Yelp
I live pretty close to the Westbank Pho Bang, so I have been a fan for years. I think Pho Bang is some of the best pho in the city and, while other people like to worship at the altar of Tan Dinh, I regularly go to Pho Bang for my #14 large and spring rolls. I was out in Metairie, around lunch, when I saw that a Pho Bang had opened on Vets. Now, that every location is owned by a member of the same family, so the menu is pretty much the same. I stopped in here and ordered my large pho tai gau (eye-round steak, flank, and brisket), egg rolls and spring rolls. As expected, my pho tai gau was as good as ever. There's just something about the pho here that's just amazing- it's a real cure all. If you feel sick, this stuff will cure you. The egg rolls were crunchy perfection and the pork spring rolls were excellent. The service here is always fast, so it's perfect for lunch and this location has a little bit of an edge on my regular pho bang, because this one has banh mih. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner- you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
After spending some time in Australia and now in New Orleans, I've learned that "just pho" is a phrase that shows how truly spoiled I was being an SF native with limitless access to quality pho. Pho Bang reminds me of that quality and for that I need to give this little hole-in-the-wall the credit it deserves! Food: The Pho Dac Diet is my go-to when I'm craving a classic. Savory, warm, beef pho broth with brisket, rare steak, and my favorite -- tendon! Bun Bo Hue - Also pretty good here. A spicy, tangy broth also with beef goodies. You can modify the spiciness level to your liking. Price: Decent. They recently raised their prices but I think a large bowl now (2022) is ~$12-13 before taxes? I mean, try finding that kind of reasonable pricing anywhere in New Orleans. I double-dog dare ya! Atmosphere: No frills. Just basic tables and tentative service! The staff does speak English so do not be afraid to ask questions. I've got to make a trek seeing as I'm located in New Orleans, but for a 10-15m drive, it's a no-brainer when I'm feeling homesick and in need of some noods that'll touch me in my private part. ......of course I'm referring to my soul. My very private soul.

Yelp
I love Pho Bang but I've gotten two pick up orders recently only to discover hair in my food both times when I got home. Very frustrating because I go out of my way to try and eat here and it's not worth it anymore.

Yelp
#14 is the absolute best thing I've ever eaten I'll always come back to eat here love this place and the people who run it!!!

Yelp
Love the vegetarian Pho with Tofu here. It's delicious and fresh. My husband has tried other dishes and really likes them all (so far)! Nice place to stay to eat or take to go. Very clean.

Yelp
Legit pho and banh mi in Metairie. They also deliver, but it seems that they do not offer banh mi for delivery. Every time I've had their pho I have enjoyed it and they give plenty of fixings. They wrap the pho up super nice too when it's take out - even the meat is separate so you put it in yourself. They offer vegetarian, chicken and seafood pho too for those not interested in beef. Their pork banh mi is delicious as well. Their egg rolls and spring rolls are good for apps. I've seen people of all backgrounds and ages at the restaurant and have not seen it empty, so we must not be the only people that enjoy this place!

Chris T.

Yelp
Pho Bang is kinda like the Waffle House of Vietnamese cuisine. Same food and experience wherever you find one. First time at this location and not let down. Excellent pho, good service, as you find at any location. Bonus they do Bun Bo Hue on the weekends.
