12 Slurpable Pho in San Francisco and the East Bay

"Oakland’s top destination for pho ga, aka chicken pho, has been a fixture in East Oakland for its tender poached chicken, fresh noodles, and soul-warming broth. Everything tastes twice as delicious slathered in the restaurant’s scallion-ginger sauce — including whole. bone-in chickens if you’re in the mood for something other than the restaurant’s namesake dish. Bonus points for being open bright and early at 7:30 a.m., when a hot bowl of pho makes for an especially invigorating start to the day." - Paolo Bicchieri, Luke Tsai

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Oakland - Eater SF

"A top destination for its namesake chicken pho, this East Oakland restaurant is all about the bird. Try chicken over rice, noodle soup with shredded chicken, the whole chicken, or, of course, the pho ga. Either way, you’re getting some of the silkiest meat in town with a generous side of ginger scallion sauce to smear over everything." - Janelle Bitker

Chicken pho with ginger sauce is off the charts delicious -- I always want 2-4x as much ginger sauce as it comes with and do recommend buying a side of it to take home and eat generously. This soup feels so healing. My go-to comfort food when physically or emotionally run-down.

Best Pho Ga in Oakland. Nothing fancy here just straight up good chicken noodle soup. Must try if you have a hangover. Def will make you feel better.

This is legit my favorite spot for all things chicken: chicken rice, chicken congee, chicken pho, chicken rice rolls...you get the gist. It’s so good. We drive from the city just for this. We used to drive here from San Mateo too...talk about dedication. Haha. I’ve been coming here for a hot minute. I came in a few days ago and it was super clean. They cleaned this placed up. I mean from the floors to the walls. I mean it’s still old, but it’s clean. For what you pay here and the quality, I’m fine with the old furniture and decor. I ain’t tripping. It’s an old school, no frills chicken pho joint. It always reminds me of getting pho with my parents as a kid in the 90s, so in a sense I love it because at one point in time, all good pho shops in America looked like this. Cash only, they haven’t changed and I respect that. Lol...the game didn’t change them 😅 I’ll add more pics of other things later. These pics are from my most recent visit. The scrambled eggs over chicken and rice is so good.

What’s not to love about this place? Eat delicious chicken pho and play the lottery. Definitely my kind of place. It’s a no frills environment and the food is good and cheap. The pho is super customizable—you can get bone-in, boneless, dark or white meat with an array of noodle types—plus, you can add their yummy green garlicky sauce to make it a really personalized bowl. I also played the lottery after my meal so hopefully by the time you read this I’m a millionaire.

Outstanding. Sometimes I wake up in the morning craving pho like a junkie. You are there for me, Huong Que, at 0900. Bless you, for feeding me in my "early" morning blurry-eyed stupor. The flavors are fresh, and bright. That green scallion garlic sauce on the side, yes just dump all that in there. Do yourself a delicious favor. Yeah maybe even lick that little dish clean if it's early and no one will notice. Please note: place is cash only!! But for this pho I WILL MAKE IT RAIN. Update: still delicious. Still cash. Still 5+ stars Update: remains phenomenal. Arguably best phò ga in Oakland. You are open at 0730 now? Ok breakfast spot, with the phò that awakens my soul, after a long drive on the struggle bus called life. Thank you.

In my opinion, this is the best and most consistent restaurant in the East Bay. I’ve been here well over a hundred times, never once disappointed.

I've been going to this place for many years. It's good pho but not the best. Also they are pretty rude if you are not vietnamese. There use to be a couple friendly people who worked there but they are all gone. I've brought different friends and family here over the years and they would always ask me why I always came here since the service was bad. To be honest I use to put up with it because their pho use to be the best. Now that they lost their touch I will never return.

I just recently found this place. I tired the shredded chicken pho. It was so good and the bean sprouts were nice and fresh. I also got hot tea (idk what kind of hot tea it was but it was good) the lady Mia is really nice and friendly. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I've been attempting to try pho a couple of times, but I normally don't like the broth. I was recommended to this place by my coworker. He told me to start off with the chicken broth. I went with my youngest daughter. We got wonton noodle soup and shredded chicken pho with noodles. Chicken broth was nice and tasty for a new person like myself. I added all of the different spices available and it did enhance everything. The waitress was very friendly and explained the menu to us. She helped suggest our choices. She told us what to try for next time. We arrived a couple of hours before closing. So we were the only ones there. It was big with a lot of seating. Main thing to remember is it's a cash only establishment. So don't forget your cash.

Yelp
Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe is so nostalgic. I grew up eating here since I was a little kid. Times have definitely changed but the quality of their noodles have not. This is a family owned restaurant and for the most part, family ran as well. I usually go for a #1 or #2 with ho fun or pho noodles. It all depends on my mood. Back in the days, I'd see the restaurant more packed however, there is less foot traffic from what I come across nowadays. I always mix my ginger scallion sauce with soy and sriracha to give it extra flavor. I use this sauce to dip my chicken. The only disadvantage I'd say is that the parking nearby is not the best. But personally, this won't stop me from coming by!

Yelp
What a cozy hospitable place. We came here today for lunch. We are bit unwell and still recovering from the flu so a nice bowl of pho has always worked wonders. This place is most known for their Pho Ga and they have a few bowls of soup to try from with your favorite choice of noodles - yay! We had nr 2 shredded chicken with pho noodles and nr 12 wonton soup with fresh noodles ho fun which they don't make in house but get freshly made from another place. Food is good and comforting and very much budget friendly. The place is very big and has ample seating. The family is very warm and friendly - the hospitality is felt immediately. I didn't even have to ask for an extra bowl to share soup with my daughter because they brought it promptly. How sweet. Lots of parking around the restaurant. Bathroom was ok - too much cleaning detergent smell for me and it didn't have soap at the moment so perhaps they can do bit more work on that front.

Yelp
So, I was really in the mood for some Hainanese chicken vibes, and Pho Ga Hong Que Cafe seemed like the spot to hit up. Gave it a go, and here's the lowdown. The food? It's alright. Not mind-blowing, but it does the job. Service? Just your regular, nothing to write home about. Portion sizes are standard - neither tiny nor massive. Now, let's talk about the parking situation. Ugh, it's a headache. Street parking is the only option, and it's a struggle. Overall, I've got mixed feelings about this place. It's okay, but it's not jumping to the top of my list. One thing that got to me was this weird smell from the meat dishes. It kind of lingered and took away from the whole experience. Not sure if it's just me being picky, but it made me think twice about coming back. Pho Ga Hong Que Cafe might work in a pinch if you're desperate for Hainanese chicken nearby. But personally, I'd probably check out other spots first before making this my regular go-to. That meat smell was a bit of a buzzkill for me.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and it always hits the spot. This is the place to nurse your hangover or for that cold weather, piping hot, noodle soup craving. The broth is just salty enough and the noodles you can mix and match. I got the ho fun thick rice noodles and the egg noodles in my shredded chicken bowl. A side of ginger scallion oil comes with your noodles for dipping your meat. I love how flavorful the broth is while being simple and to the point. This place is a gem and I'm so glad my friend introduced me to this place. This is a cash only establishment so be sure to come prepared and to leave feeling satisfied and happy! Everyone was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Amazing, very tasty broth, very fast, felt it in my heart. Will come back 100% Good vibes overall

Yelp
My favorite place for authentic pho ga. I grew up in the bay, lived in Seattle and currently live in the OC. I have yet to find a spot that comes close to the springy, yet firm hainan chicken served here. Ironically , it's the silky fresh ho fun noodles & ginger scallion sauce is what keeps me coming back. It's my first stop whenever I come home to visit. Growing up, as a family, we always ordered the chicken and the noodles separate. If anyone has a place that they recommend in the Orange County area that they recommend please share.

Yelp
WHEN: Thurs @1pm This is my first time back since right before the pandemic started. It's my dad's favorite spot and my folks invited me to come have lunch with them. My mom being a vegetarian would bring a small bag of Doritos to eat because they do not offer vegetarian dishes...unless you're fine having plain rice. PARKING: Pretty hard so expect to park like a block or two away. It's not a great neighborhood so please be careful and don't leave anything in your car that's visible! And watch out for the street sweeping schedule (Thursday?). This place is know for their CHICKEN PHO, and it's pretty darn good. There's ways you can customize it: NOODLES: + Ho Fun (Fat Wide) + Skinny Rice Noodles (pho) + Egg Noodles + Clear Noodles + Vermicelli CHICKEN + Shredded + Shredded Breast + Chopped (bone-in) + Chicken Thighs + Chicken Wings PRICES - They're all priced the same: LARGE: $13.50 REGULAR: $10.95 However, if you were to get your noodle soup with CHICKEN THIGHS, it's $2 more: LARGE: $15.50 REGULAR: $12.95 Every order comes with their specialty dipping sauce that seems to be mixed with ginger, Scallion, and oil. You can dip your chicken, dunk it all in your noodle soup, or add all the spices and other condiments to them. Here's what I usually get: CHICKEN PHO - Small - $10.95 + Ho Fun (Fat Wide Noodles) + Chopped (Bone-In) Somehow the bone in has more flavor and you get some of the chicken skin too! Sure it's a bit more work with the bone, but it's good! Somehow ordering the fat noodles makes it more fun and special, since the beef noodles is usually the thin rice noodles. The broth is quite juicy and a bowl always hits it's the spot! Sometimes when my whole party eats CHICKEN PHO, we'd order an entire or half of a FRESH CHICKEN: + WHOLE - $36 + HALF - $18.75 + QUARTER - $9.75 Oh, and this place is CASH ONLY. No credit cards. Staff is super friendly, and I'm glad to be back.

Yelp
I was getting over a cold and needed some chicken soup. This hit the spot 10000%. Their ginger scallion sauce is amazing. I prefer to get the boneless chicken and the regular size is plenty for a typical appetite. Cash only! Street parking can be a little tricky at times, but I've always found a spot within 5-10 min.

Yelp
Best chicken pho! Love the ginger sauce and the wontons are delicious also. Food comes out immediately and the chicken is really fresh. Lovely family owned and operated business with friendly service. Kid friendly and the noodles and soup are so yummy.

Yelp
I've been coming here for at least a decade and they never leave me disappointed. It's a such a delicious comfort food during any season. Being here you get to experience Oakland vibes before all of the gentrification started happening in the surrounding areas. Quick service, authentic food. I recommend ordering extra ginger sauce, especially if you order whole chicken or the chicken pho.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to Pho Ga Houng Que Cafe (say that ten times...) for 14 years now. This place hasn't changed a bit, from the menu items to the indoor dining area. It's permanently Ming Dynasty in there with the porcelain Buddha sculptures and the Hofbrau cafeteria chairs from 1950's still being used. That being said it comes down to the food. They are of course known for their namesake chicken pho. Which is probably the best thing to order here with the scallion sauce they serve with it. But here's a few things I've tried: Chicken pho: I've had bone in and shredded chicken. Laziness and not wanting the skin has me lean toward the latter. For a large bowl, it's $12.95 now with a generous portion of noodles and broth. Chicken is a decent amount. There is an option of Ho Fun noodles but I find myself feeling a little over indulgent when I eat those thick noodles. Ho Fun is best in Chow Fun in my opinion. Oxtail: I've eaten the oxtail in the pho and with rice. I prefer with rice. When oxtail goes in pho broth, it becomes like the used bath water of the baby oil covered actors/actresses of Baywatch, the broth becomes an oily mess. Won Ton: hard pass on the won ton here. They are microscopic won ton, bland won ton. My DNA results said I'm 73% Won Ton and 14% Pho. 73% of my ancestors are crying as we speak because of the won ton here. But overall, I give them a solid four stars for the food. Decor gets a zero. Service is very "Asian inspired", leave me alone until I flag you down type service. I'll keep coming back for chicken pho, especially on cold days.

Yelp
I am a bit embarrassed to admit it's taken me a decade of living in Oakland to finally try this OG spot. I looked forward to the day with much anticipation though and I was not disappointed! Every prior review about the tastiness of the Pho Ga here is solidly true. I love that the broth has just the perfect amount of flavor, I really could drink it every day. I promise it won't be another decade before my next visit here! CASH ONLY!***
google avatar

Nancy L.

Yelp
Still my favorite Pho Ga place in Oakland. I swear they have something extra special in their ginger/green onion sauce. I always, ALWAYS, ask for extra and they're super accommodating. CASH ONLY~ To go also available! Parking = horrible, there's never parking around here. They also sell Lotto tickets! Lunch time can be quite busy. Recommendation: Get half of a chicken ($13) or a whole chicken ($26), extra green onion and ginger sauce. Order their hai nan chicken rice, which is basically rice cooked with chicken fat, mmmmm.
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
The pho with shredded chicken was delicious! The meal was delicate and the regular size was the perfect amount. The ginger sauce it comes with was amazing and adds a nice flavor. Service was quick. After leaving the restaurant I felt refreshed, satisfied, and wanting more. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Long over due for a review!! This place has my heart! Comfort food at its finest!! The chicken is cooked fresh daily, soup is always on point, but to top it off though, the CRACKSAUCE!!! The ginger garlic sauce is FIYAHHH!!! Hands down, best ginger garlic sauce anywhere!! The owners are hella nice people and the Food comes out super fast!!!! This place is good for hangovers and sickness!!

Yelp
Must have! Chicken pho. Extra extra ginger scallion sauce. And then more sauce. Love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
As someone born and raised in Oakland, I've shamed myself by not yelping this fine establishment. Definitely one of Oakland's top Pho Ga restaurants. Great Pho Ga, ginger scallion garlic sauce is great! Feeling down in the dumps? Get some Pho Ga to change your mood :) Cash Only.

Tracy C.

Yelp
This hits the spot if you ever crave chicken soup. I love getting the Pho Ga and being able to choose the type of noodles you want. They provide a ginger scallion sauce to dip the chicken in and it's so good. The area is a little sketchy and you have to find street parking, but it's totally worth it. Also, place is cash only.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
This place is cash only! Bring $$$ or have Venmo! We came around 1pm and it wasn't too busy because it was also Mother's Day and everyone is at nice restaurants to impress their moms. Since my hubs already ate, we ordered one bowl for me. I ordered the ho fun chicken soup. It wasn't piping hot like how I like my soups, but it was really satisfying because I was recovering from a cold and the warm soup warmed my soul. Although, the chicken wasn't as moist and yummy as pho long Kim in Milpitas, this is the closest thing to good chicken noodle soup in this area. The highlight is definitely their ginger sauce. Never had such good ginger sauce anywhere else. Dip your chicken in that! Anyway, bring cash!!!

Lang L.

Yelp
I've had my share of pho ga, in SoCal, NoVA, and Vietnam. This one here bland brith and dry chicken. The setting resembles a mom and pop Vietnamese eatery, for sure, but the food doesn't cut it. It's one of the most disappointing pho ga's I've had.
google avatar

Shaomay V.

Yelp
This is the best chicken pho I've ever had. This is truly a hidden gem in Oakland. I love their food and will always come back to Pho Ga Huong Que. I highly recommend this place! Their food is definitely worth it. #2 shredded chicken meat pho with ho fun ($12.50 for large and $9.95 for regular). The broth is light but flavorful. It comes with a small container of ginger sauce. Absolutely delicious! #A1 banh cuon ga aka chicken roll ($8.50). This is so good! It comes with a container of slightly sweet fish sauce with no chili peppers. This does not come with ginger sauce, order that on your own. Extra ginger sauce costs extra. They're open Tuesday to Sunday (closed Monday) from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and cash only. There is street parking all around. There's also a park across the street with older Vietnamese uncles playing games and chilling. There's also some unhoused folks around, but it's all chill. You'll be fine, don't be an ass. Go get your pho! There's also a whole Berkeleyside article on this place. https://www.berkeleyside.org/2019/08/12/east-oaklands-pho-ga-huong-que-cafe-is-still-the-go-to-for-hearty-chicken-pho Please support them! Thank you!

Yelp
16, just ho fun, light sweet soup. Half chicken, enough for 2. One of best chickens, soft juicy, not too rough, skin is delicious. Wonton, no, no taste flavor or texture.
google avatar

Queena Z.

Yelp
I used to come here with my mom a lot so this place is very nostalgic for me. The chicken and chicken noodle here is soooo heart warming and delicious. However, the star of the restaurant has to be their scallion and ginger sauce. It's the best I've had by far!
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Chicken noodle soup or with rice, is what this place is known for in addition to their ginger and green onion oil sauce on the side served up with the order! They have beef and other meat entrees too. Compared to other chicken broths I've had, their broth is sweet. Unexpected, and it was different. I would choose rice next time because I prefer savory broth versus sweet broth when having chicken noodle soup. Chicken shreds are nice and tender. Not dry at all, which dwelled well with me! Cash only spot!

J B.

Yelp
Best pho ever!!! And iced coffee is so good! Delicious! Green sauce is a must ask extra. Nice people here too
google avatar

Yelp
One of our favorite places in Oakland. Steamed chicken is perfect pair with the piping hot broth with the extra fresh and soft noodles. Ginger scallion dipping sauce is awesome.
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
This place specializes in Pho Ga, shredded chicken pho, which means you probably wouldn't order Beef Pho here. They have options for the shredded chicken pho which is boneless or you could order boned chicken that comes on the side. When I crave Pho Ga, I go here.
google avatar

Willette I.

Yelp
This is the best place for chicken pho! The broth is flavorful, clean tasting without that oiliness that sometimes come with other broths. I always order my chicken pho with Ho Fun noodles (white flat noodles) and don't forget to try the ginger scallion sauce with your pho! This place is best for next day hangovers, colds or rainy overcast days. They only accept cash and parking may be tough to find but well worth the trouble.

Yelp
Occasionally, I wake up in time for a breakfast that does not consist solely of unhealthy amounts of coffee and violating speed limits. Today would be one of those days. Having read Berkeleyside's feature of Huong Que Cafe [1] and learning that this establishment opens for breakfast, I ventured out this Wednesday morning. Arriving at 8am and spending a trivial amount of time finding street parking, I entered the establishment. The interior looks like the ubiquitous neighborhood pho restaurant - laminate tables adorned with metal napkin dispensers, cutlery, and sauces. As expected, I received quick, efficient, and minimal service. My order of a large bone-in chicken pho with flat rice noodle (Pho Ga / $9.75) arrived within 5 minutes. The chicken broth tasted light but quite flavorful. Notably, it does not carry the texture of overly heavy or msg'd broth, you know, the kind that sticks to your lips and makes you chug water halfway through your meal. I managed to polish the whole bowl without feeling bloated afterwards. The flat rice noodle managed a light, silky texture. The bone-in chicken, however, merits the most attention. Those familiar with Cantonese-style poached chicken (貴妃雞) will recognize that the bone-in chicken is, in fact, Cantonese-style - complete with the ginger and scallion dipping sauce. The chicken was fresh and tender, and the skin retained the fluffiness - a useful barometer to judge poached chicken quality. At a neighborhood joint such as this, I consider two things - food quality and price point; other metrics, such as service and interior decor have no bearing here. Huong Que manages to impress with the quality of execution. The single-digit price point renders this venue nigh-irresistible. Note: cash only and the front counter sells lotto tickets if you're into that [1] https://www.berkeleyside.com/2019/08/12/east-oaklands-pho-ga-huong-que-cafe-is-still-the-go-to-for-hearty-chicken-pho

Yelp
Jewish penicillin, Vietnam-style. I had the regular-size chicken thigh in broth with ho fun for the noodles. The price was right and the tastes were clean. My dining companion had the Hainan chicken and seemed to like it well enough. Though the restaurant was far from empty when we came for lunch on a weekday, there were still plenty of open tables. The service was super fast -- our dishes came out only a few moments after they were ordered. By the way, we came down because of this Berkeleyside article a couple of week ago -- https://www.berkeleyside.com/2019/08/12/east-oaklands-pho-ga-huong-que-cafe-is-still-the-go-to-for-hearty-chicken-pho . I somehow hadn't been to this neighborhood in a very long time and was glad to return. Parking looked tight near the restaurant, but I was lucky and snagged a spot across the street.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I usually love eating here because the chicken is so fresh, the ginger sauce is always on pint, and the broth is sooo flavorful. Unfortunately the last time I visited the broth was bland af. Although that won't stop me from coming again!! I will be back again the ginger scallion sauce is not to disappoint! It's best eating there if possible especially if you order the large ho fun noodles. The noodles are not the same reheated at home :(

Yelp
My friend Kevin isn't a morning person so when he said he was going to join me for breakfast at Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe, I was a little excited and shocked too at the same time. He drove and found parking right across the street along the park. Lucky us! When we entered, it was only partially full and the hostess said we can sit anywhere. She brought us hot tea and menus right away. After looking on Yelp, I knew exactly what I was going to order. I got the Large Pho Ga with Ho Fun and Shredded Chicken Meat. It came out quickly with a little dish of their Scallion Ginger Sauce. I wasn't sure how it would go with soup but it wasn't bad and I ended up asking for more sauce. The broth was good but after about 1/4 of the chicken was eaten, I did add Sriracha. There was so much Ho Fun! After finishing all the chicken meat, there was still an entire bowl of Ho Fun left. Portions are generous here! Kevin got what I got but with Egg Noodle and he ate his entire bowl. He said it was better than he expected. We stayed a bit to enjoy the tea and let the meal set before leaving. While dining, we had to flag down the server to get service. When you're done with your meal, you just walk up to pay at the cash register. They are cash only. I'm happy I finally knocked this bookmark off my list! Overall, 3.5 and one of the better chicken pho bowls I've had in East Bay.
google avatar

Anna L.

Yelp
I love this restaurant! They serve the juiciest chicken ever. Every time we come, we always order a whole chicken and plain noodles or rice. Their ginger and green onion sauce is also super addicting!

Gena K.

Yelp
I called before hand to ask if they had outdoor seating and they stated YES. I show up with my dog and ask for the outdoor seating. They didn't say anything and just pointed me to a table inside. I asked about the outdoor seating and they said they didn't have any. Why lie on the phone? Lol. I enjoyed the shredded chicken soup. I handed my card over to pay and they said CASH ONLY. Ummmm I didn't have cash nor is there anywhere in the place that says cash only. I tell them I can pay them Venmo. They allow me to pay with Venmo. Good food, but weird experience.

Yelp
The chicken and noodle soups are good from this place. The service is excellent as well. Good experience every time I stop by.

Yelp
Save for Mondays, when they're closed, this place is probably at the top of the list of restaurants my coworkers and I love going to when we've conveniently pho'gotten to bring our lunches (or we'd rather let the sorry prepacked salads we've brought from Costco languish in the communal fridge). My go-to? #2 - pho w/ shredded chicken meat and egg noodle (thin) - 6.75 I get the regular size and then ask for extra egg noodle. I used to ask for the large size, but that only really nets you extra broth. There's a version with shredded chicken breast, too, for those that have a preference. Service here is pretty quick, which definitely helps to offset the number of times you'll drive around the block to find parking, and after a number of visits they'll recognize you. For my coworkers that means they already know to bring extra ginger scallion sauce, haha. Hot tea is standard, but you can also ask for a glass of water, too. I've tried their soda chanh (kinda like a limeade) and really enjoyed it. Last, but certainly not least, CASH ONLY!

Yelp
With so many restaurants opening back up for take-out during shelter in place, I was stuck in a tiny predicament... what should I eat for #YelpsBigNightIn?! After going through a long mental list of options, my family and I decided to opt for a warm bowl of Pho Ga at this restaurant. I've been going to this restaurant for as long as I can remember and it's a staple in my household. Their chicken pho (Pho Ga) never disappoints. Their chicken is juicy and tender, rice noodles are cooked well, broth is clear yet flavorful and best of all, their ginger onion oil sauce is TO DIE FOR. This time around, instead of ordering the shredded chicken Pho Ga, we ordered a few bowls of noodles with broth and a side of steamed chicken. We prefer our Pho Ga that way but you can't go wrong with either options. We didn't order other entrees this time around, but I can also vouch that their chicken rice entrees are great too! Overall, this no-frills restaurant is tried and true. The food was so good that my dad went back the next day and had their Pho Ga a second time. Need I say more?

Yelp
Best pho ga in Oakland if you ask me! Their green sauce is where it's at for sure. These bowls feature fat flat noodles if you desire, fresh with a side of oxtail if you are open to living a little. Cash only & parking is horrible but what can you expect from getting the best chicken noodle soup you can find in the heart of Chinatown. Rain or shine! Whether it's pho weather or not, look no further than this local establishment.

Yelp
This place is one of best best Pho Ga in Oakland.. but only Pho Ga means chicken noddle soup or whole half chicken.. but my wife ordered the curry chicken that cost 15+ dollars come with an bowl of curry sauce and 4 chopped piece of chicken with an huge white rice and an bowl of soup... I mean I know stuff is getting expensive but 4 piece of chicken for 15/16 dollars omgsh no wonder when I sit down my wife asked me to ask the waiter why the portion so small and I laugh about it.... After knowing it it's cost 15/16 dollar I understand why my wife asked me to ask the waiter lolz... etc and she told me they should take that dish out the meal it's was nasty she told me she won't eat it if it's just an waste of food and money .... My wife would give it an 1 star on the curry chicken!!

Yelp
The folks love this place. Quality, authentic and fresh food. They use actual chicken broth vs some of the other places that use beef broth in all their bases. The ginger sauce is also great and is one of the first metrics I use to judge if a pho ga place is legit or not. Doesn't matter what they use in it, just that they use it.

Yelp
Hole in the wall type of restaurant, but don't get fooled, they have the best pho ga in town! Their scallion sauce goes perfectly with the chicken!

Yelp
When my friends and I are craving pho ga, this is our go-to place! Their chicken with the ginger onion oil sauce is bomb and on top of noodle soup is even better. This is the best meal on a rainy day or after a long night out. Definitely hits the spot every time. Super reasonable prices, but one thing to note is that this place is cash-only! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
stopped by for some snack before my hike. was lucky enough to get a parking out front. it usually pretty hard to find a parking here. Not to mention there is a lot of homeless present right across from the restaurant, because of the public park. Sometime I do run into some unsavory character around this area, which deter me and I ended up not stopping to get food around here. so I got a Vietnamese ice coffee ($4.50). They seem to really take their time making it. may be it a fresh drip, the legit way to make a Vietnamese coffee. Their vietnamese ice coffee was hella strong, way stronger than the cam thoung place near by. I am used to the bitter so I didn't mind. Wish they did add more condensed milk for a more creamy flavor. I had their chicken roll($7.50) this time. The roll by itself is not bad. They also give me some fish sauce for dipping, but it was on the sweet side and a bit too weak for me. Wish they has give me the ginger, green onion sauce instead, but I know you usually have to pay extra for those good stuff lol. May be next time when i visit them for the chicken pho. They are more known for their chicken pho after all.

Yelp
My girlfriend brought me here because her family would always come here after a gathering and just order Pho Ga. So, this really was a nostalgic experience for her. But i have to say, that this was some of the best Chicken soup I've ever tried in my life. The bone-in pho ga really is the most flavorful since you still have the bones soaking into the broth for longer. We got the pho ga with some ho fun noodles and my first reaction was "Oh my god this is f**king good!" When you eat the soup with that green ginger sauce, it is just like a harmony of sweet and salty all at once. Now the cafe is a little older, but honestly don't let that stop you. You should really just come here for the soup and other food.

Yelp
**Pho Quest Stop #71** With a solid selection of top 5 pho spots, my motivation to sample random establishments is diminished though I still try places people highly recommend. For my latest stop, I found myself driving through Oakland's Chinatown and with a recommendation to try Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe. Huong Que specializes in chicken pho and serves a variety of chicken dishes including Hainan rice, chicken porridge, and chicken rice rolls. They also have a few ox Tail dishes although everyone in the establishment I saw ordered a chicken dish. As a big fan of ginger Scallion sauce, Huong Que notably serves every chicken dish with a well reviewed ginger scallion sauce (too sweet to me) that is also available to purchase for home. Our orders: Chicken with Bone (#1) - $8.50. Available in regular or large, this is their standard pho ga with both white and dark meat served bone-in. Several noodle types are available with the most popular being a wider Ho fun or a thinner Hu Tiêu. A generous sized bowl came fairly quickly but no gizzards or more interesting cuts that many pho ga places serve. The broth, while good, was low on the chicken flavor and more dilute and clean than strong tasting. The noodles were good but the chicken pieces were average with many being all bone or with very little skin or meat. No mini chicken eggs or yolks are served either as some of the better establishments have. They do have boiled bean sprouts. Shredded Chicken (#2) - $8.75. The shredded chicken is largely white meat and much easier to eat than the chicken with bone although it lacks the chicken skin. No chicken eggs or gizzards either but a much more popular rendition with the same broth and noodle varieties. Chicken Thighs (#3) - $10.25. A welcome option with all dark meat and much larger pieces of thigh meat, skin, and tasty bone. This was my favorite version of the three we tried. Overall, Pho Ga Huong Que Cafe was a solid stop. It didn't quite match up with my favorite pho ga places in Little Saigon San Jose, but a great intro to Oakland Chinatown. Pho Ga Huong Que accepts cash only. Yelp
After moving from SF to the East Bay, I've been craving Turtle Tower Northern Vietnamese Chicken Noodle. This place is the closest I could find so far and it did not disappoint, albeit there are a few differences. I ordered #2 (shredded chicken) chicken noodle soup. I then customized it by requesting the shredded chicken meat on the side and also added intestines(trying to mimic what I usually order at Turtle Tower. Now, you must be wondering why I would request the shredded chicken on the side instead of in the broth. The reason is all because of their infamous Ginger Scallion dipping sauce. The sauce is so good that you do not want to water it down with chicken broth each time you dip it from your soup so by having the chicken on the side, you can dip it in and then eat it along with your noodles and soup. Food Highlight: Pro-tip - #2 Shredded chicken and ask for it on the side so that you can dip it in the Ginger Scallion sauce without watering down the sauce with the broth.

Yelp
Order the pho gawith pho noodles. I tried the ho fun the first time and didn't like that it kept breaking so it was hard to eat. Broth is a bit salty but not too bad. Didn't have the chicken broth taste that I normally like. Chicken was good especially with the green ginger mixture! I use about 1.5 of it which really makes the pho ga. Street parking is a bit hard sometimes. I haven't had to wait in line for a seat either. Bowl comes out pretty fast.

Yelp
Haven't been here for over a decade, so I decided to come here for a hot bowl of chicken noodle soup to warm the soul. We ordered take out, the fragrant of the soup hits your nose almost instantly, the taste of the soup was super flavorful, the chicken seemed like it's waaaaaay over cooked and dry and the noodle was a bit mushy like it's old noodle that's been reheated. And let me tell you the price for the 2 orders was insane!!! Will I ever come back? Probably not!

Yelp
Sometimes, simplicity is key. At this Pho Ga place, that's exactly what you get. Simple menu. I was told by a friend to check this place out for their chicken noodle soup. He was right, it's simple, good and does the job in a rainy and cold weather. I've been here twice, both times, it's been consistent. However, come early because they are always running out of something. Everything is freshly made. Their green sauce, is so good for dipping or adding to the soup. Small in the wall gem, with a kind lady owner. #SOLitFood Had to up it to 5 Star! The consistency of the flavors and service. I come here about 4 times a month. And now that it's getting cold, might even be a lot more. Just refreshing chicken noodle soup.
