Yelp
My husband was craving pho and we didn't feel like hiking all the way to our preferred places on Buford Highway, so we settled on this place.
This is actually our second time here and while the first time wasn't all that spectacular (which was confirmed by this visit), my rating for this place has to do with its location and quality in relation to other Vietnamese places in the area. If I was comparing this place to my go-to spots on Buford HIghway, this place would drop down to 2.5 stars.
With that said, this place is pretty good for the location. We arrived at around 11:30am on a Sunday, and this place only had one seated table of two. We got seated right away with the menus and were promptly served ice water.
We ordered the egg rolls (A1 - cha gio) for appetizer, an XL sized bowl of pho tai nam gan (P10 - pho with rare steak, flank & tendon) for my hubby, and Bun bo hue (D1 - spicy noodle soup with pork belly shank meat and pork hock) for me. The food all arrived shortly after we ordered, which makes sense because one 2 more small tables came in after us while we were there.
The egg rolls ($3.95) came out piping hot. They were cut in half to let out the steam, which I appreciated. However, I noticed after biting into them that there were no carrots nor noodles that mentioned in the descriptions, just lumps of pork in a crispy wrap. They were OK dipped in the fish sauce that came with them but I would've liked there to be a bit more flavor and different texture elements. A few pieces of pork looked pink still so we stopped eating them. I definitely won't be ordering these again.
The beef pho ($8.45) was pretty good according to the hubs. It was also HUGE, definitely lived up to its name. He had to take some home after devouring a good portion of it.
My Bun Bo Hue ($8.95) was very flavorful. However, there were no pork hocks to be seen, and they kinda skimped on the noodles too. I recalled both of these being let downs from my first visit, but alas, the heart (errr stomach) wants what it wants. I decided to order a side of extra noodles, which was portioned about 2x the original amount...go figure! I think they charged me around $3? Totally worth it because I would've left hungry otherwise. Instead, I had enough noodles and broth to take home for a light meal later.
