17 Essential Pho Restaurants in Houston

"Pull up to this fast casual, counter-service restaurant in the Heights and order a small or large bowl of chicken or beef phở to your liking. Sub for fresh noodles, or go Du Mama style and sub for ramen noodles. Be extra, and add on quail eggs or a beef bone on the side." - Minh Truong

The first time I ordered was through Uber Eats and I was really impressed. I got two bowls of the vegan pho with tofu and all the onions and herbs, vegetarian egg rolls, and vegetarian dumplings. The broth was very flavorful and the portion size was perfect. I really enjoyed the egg rolls and really appreciate that they make a vegan sauce to go with it. Husband and I liked it so much we returned 2 days later to try it in person and it was even better... especially the appetizers since we were able to eat it fresh. We arrived at 8:30pm and were the last people to be served. One group arriving 10 minutes later were turned away. I've learned from previous experience that kitchens around Houston usually close 15-30 minutes before the listed closing time so it's best to not get there too late. This is our new go to spot! We were going to another one down the street regularly but have been let down a number of times with the inconsistency and for adding vegetarian egg rolls to the menu but never having it available.

I was in the mood for spring rolls. I ordered them and they didn’t have any so I dipped out and was gonna go somewhere else. On my way out I decided maybe I didn’t need the spring rolls so I came back. At that point I think he was the owner walked in. He said he would make some for me fresh. I thought that was cool! One order of spring rolls and large combination chicken pho came out to $22.00. Yikes! A bit high but I wanted to give it a try so no worries. Fresh spring rolls came out. It was 1 fresh spring roll cut in half. lol. That was my only issue. Edit: the menu does say “Spring Roll”. So one cut in half is totally fair. I went up to 5 stars. lol.

Google
Chicken pho has two miserable slices of chicken and a slump of noodles. No soda fountain. The mini egg told dripping oil and very unhealthy. Pricy.

Google
Nut allergy friendly: They do have a peanut sauce served with the spring rolls. I'd also be careful with the chili sauce. Otherwise, pho is totally safe. I ordered this as a late night option and was so surprised by how good it was that I took two more friends the next day to confirm. Lo and behold, this might be one of the best pho spots inside the Loop, and definitely the best late night weekend option! Warning: Taking the pho to go, you are EXPECTED to boil the broth when you get home. This is how you cook the thin raw meat and the slightly uncooked noodles. I actually really respect that they give you slightly firm noodles with this expectation. Do not believe the reviews that say that the noodles are undercooked. The pho broth here is very flavorful and rich, though slightly oily. Meat is sliced thinly and all meet expectations in tenderness. I'd say the brisket gets a little tough, but isn't bad at all. Portions are large and filling. What more can you ask for? Don't let the funny name fool you. This pho is great.

Tasty Pho! We came in around 10pm and they are still busy. Its a bit cramped as their space is limited however they are very accommodating to my requests. They sold out with chicken Pho but the beef is really good. The noodle is just a bit salty to my liking.Food is good and service is great. Will definitely come back!

Google
Spring roll is perfect with the peanut sauce that comes with it. Nicely balanced. Egg rolls are crisp but the filling is soft. Authentic pho has a very light taste. I ordered the Large Pho King Beef Noodle Soup (combination extra meat) and Large Chicken Noodle Soup (Dark meat) If you were to get this from a Vietnamese friend mom, this is exactly what you get, a very savory beef broth. The chicken broth disappointed. I would recommend the regular size beef combination pho and spring rolls as they're very good and the average person would be filled. Large if you're a big eater. The service is also very fast.

Google
Always in search of the most delicious Pho. This place may be small in size but it packs powerful flavor into its dishes. The vermicelli shrimp ball pho has me coming back again and again. The broth is the perfect balance of flavors combined with the most delicious shrimp balls. A total win win!! The meat ball pho is also yummy! It doesn't have the cinnamon taste that most have. Great flavor! Great ambiance with the constant tunes streaming with an upbeat vibe. Definitely a must try and as they say "have a great Pho King day"!!

Google
Decent pho in a clean modern contemporary setting. Ordering at the counter was fast and easy. They have the common cuts of meat; lean brisket, fatty brisket and meat balls. They didn’t have more traditional options like tendon or tripe, but they had friendly staff and a clean bathroom. The broth was savory and tasty. I got a side of bone marrow and was impressed with the large size, quantity of meat on the bone and the amount of broth in the accompanying bowl. I would come back just for the bone marrow cave man experience. Decent amount of parking.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant and I couldn't be happier! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel right at home with their warm hospitality and attention to detail when I mentioned that we're vegetarian. I was pleasantly surprised by the array of options available to me. The ambiance was inviting and set the perfect mood for an afternoon pick me up. I opted for a cafe sua da and a couple of appetizers (egg rolls and dumplings). Everything we got was delicious! I'll definitely be coming back to try the pho king vegan noodle soup. Whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian, this restaurant has something for everyone.

Yelp
Disclaimer: we ordered take out close to closing, so maybe this had to do with our experience. I was so looking forward to trying this place! My husband and I both got pho (he got chicken, I got filet mignon), and the broth was so fatty, I couldn't even eat mine. I tried the chicken broth as well, and same thing, the entire top layer was just fat. I even tried to strain the fat, but the flavor had permeated the entire meal. The one redemption- their egg rolls were excellent! I don't leave reviews normally, but would like the staff to be aware of this issue in future cases. I wish I had the experience of some of these 5 star reviews, but I'm not sure I'll be back.

Yelp
Been meaning to try this place out for a while. I think it's my 2nd favorite place for Pho. I ordered spring roll and Pho Tao (Filet Mignon). The spring roll was Ok. A little bland. But the Pho....it was incredible. The broth was so flavorful that I almost didn't add Sriracha and Hoisin. The meat was great quality and was cooked just right. Definitely a good place for Pho!

Yelp
I'm pretty married to my neighborhood pho place, but I was in the area and really wanted some good noods. Pho King definitely delivered on that! Their large was no joke--plenty of noodles and meats to satisfy. The broth was perfect. Adding quail eggs made for a nice tang and texture I had never tried before. Their fried veggie dumplings were a little on the bland side, but the chili dipping sauce made up for it. I appreciate that the menu was pretty focused (pho-cused? heh) on the noods, a small list of appetizers, and a pretty robust drink menu. I don't go to Washington Ave often, but I'd love to stop back by to try more noodles with a cocktail or sake.

Yelp
Such a cool little spot on Washington! Great to pop in, there is limited seating but I haven't ever had a problem finding a table, they also offer take out as well. The space is small but clean, the service is good and the food is even better!
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Fabulous experience at Pho king. Convenient location with decent amount of parking. The space itself is a bit small which I actually liked, gives the feel of a family owned welcoming space! They have many options and you really can't wrong. I had the chicken Pho with extra rice noodles and it was delicious! Probably one of my favorite Pho places I've come across in Texas so far! Perfect for a cold winter day. Service was quick and efficient, will definitely be back!
google avatar

Allison R.

Yelp
This is a small, little chill spot to duck into for some Pho on a rainy day. We got a few appetizers, the spring rolls and the fried dumplings. Both were good. But the star was the Pho. The broth was so good. We both got brisket and filet in it. Several people were coming in to pick up orders so you know it's good. We've already been back again.. Definitely recommend

Yelp
I had a mad craving for pho and have wanted to try their bone marrow pho. Unfortunately the bone marrow was sold out :( This is almost like a "fast-casual". Which makes sense for the area it's located in. You'll need to order at the register first, pay and then have a seat. They'll bring out the food for you. I very much enjoyed my pho! I like the a la carte options that you can add. I selected quail eggs and shrimp balls in addition to the fatty brisket and meatballs. Yummms. I didn't care for the fried dumplings. The wrapper was a little thick and doughy, the filling was bland and the dipping sauce wasn't hittin'. What a bummer! The staff is more than welcoming and attentive. I will def be back to try that bone marrow pho!

Yelp
Fried garlic + pho is the combo I never knew that I needed. If only they could figure a way to keep the garlic crispy (not my job to figure it out, ahah). Really liked this place/cleanliness and service - they even changed to tv channel from horror, to a kids show, when they saw my kids glued to the tv.

Brian B.

Yelp
Authentic pho. Food is delicious and filling. Downside is that the waitstaff is much more interested in playing computer games. Sad reality of today's customer service experience.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Traveled down to this area and ame here given the high reviews. I think our expectations were too high. Ambiance: new and clean. It's one of those order up front and they bring it to you kind of places. Food: overall good but not mind blowing. = Pho dac biet: Good clean broth. Lots of noodles and moderate meat amount. Quality was ok... Some of the beef cuts were a bit tough/dry. Didn't include tendon which I consider standard so that was disappointing. = Chicken pho: Good broth. Dark meat was a bit tough. = Spring rolls: good
google avatar

Kevin Y.

Yelp
We really enjoyed Pho King. You order and pay before you sit down, and after a short short wait you get a hot bowl of noodles. The Pho Dac Biet (combination special meat) surpasses many authentic spots I've been at. You also cannot have the Vietnamese pho experience without iced Cafe Sua Da. They came in these generous mason jars for a nice touch...we definitely will be back!

Yelp
Pho King piqued my interest with their name alone and they didn't disappoint with their product. They are a bit on the pricey side relative to market price of phô. Theirs run about $15 but I will say the ingredients are quality and the broth was super flavorful so it was worth it to me.

Yelp
pho King noodle bar is the best in town. I am Bryan's mom. Bryan is friend of Phu the young sweet owner of Pho King. Way to go Phu. Bryan's mom

Scott K.

Yelp
I Prefer pho binh or pho Ben. Broth doesn't have that nice seasoning and the noodle texture wasn't right.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with my husband somewhat late on a Sunday evening. The pho was really good and hit the spot. Relaxed ambiance and great location. The staff were friendly. We will be back!

Yelp
I recommended Pho King to a group of my coworkers as a place to get lunch on a Tuesday. I had never been, so I was excited to check it out! I showed up at around 11:45 AM. Pho King's business hours (posted online and on their door) are from 11:30AM-9:00PM on Tuesdays. But the door was locked and the place was totally dark. As I scrambled to find a new place for lunch with my coworkers, I saw multiple customers show up, see that the door was locked, and leave looking confused. What the heck, Pho King?! You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

Yelp
I looked up "The Best Places for Pho in Houston" and this place came up as one of the results. I've been to a lot of the places already on that list, and wanted to try to see if I could find another fantastic spot. After having some AMAZING Pho in Houston--I can say this was underwhelming. Not bad, don't get me wrong, but not out-of-this world. I had the Chicken Pho and Fried Dumplings. Chicken pho had amazing noodles and meat, but the broth, the core element, was very bland. The fried dumplings were honestly really good with the sauce, and I thoroughly enjoyed them, but I came for the pho, as I was told online it was one of the best. This was only my first time going, maybe I can give them the benefit of the doubt and say maybe it wasn't the best day, but I wouldn't be going back for the chicken pho.

Yelp
Food is great and the staff is awesome! Got a free Thai tea while we were waiting and offered us water. Def come and check them out
google avatar

Liz N.

Yelp
Saw this place was new and wanted to swing by to check them out. It's located in a shopping strip so parking is easy. You order and pay at the register and they bring your food out to your table. I decided to get an order of the egg rolls and a small bowl of the bun suong. An order of eggrolls came with 2 pieces and they were hot and crispy. The bun suong base is pork and chicken broth with pork slices, shrimp balls and shrimp. The shrimp balls were my favorite. The broth was light-I do wish it was a bit more flavorful or I could have added some chili oil if they had any. I'd like to come back and try their pho. Employees were very nice.
google avatar

Doan N.

Yelp
I only had the beef pho with tai and bo viên, but the broth was delicious I really enjoyed the food. The service was fast and the staff were very nice. We also got the spring rolls which were good, but I thought that it was small portion for $5. I highly recommend this place. Every since my favorite pho place closed down due to a fire I've been looking for a new place for a while. Unfortunately this is across town for me but I come to this side of town often. Glad I was able to find this gem.
google avatar

Karol C.

Yelp
Gave this place a try and it did not disappoint! The broth was savory, noodles were not soggy, and the beef was good. I like that they offered a regular size which is like their small and for a better price than some other places. Wouldn't mind coming here again when I am in the area.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Is it soup season yet? So glad there's a new pho place finally opening up in North Houston! Perfect for this cold season. I got the pho tai (pho New York strip) and my friend had the pho ga (pho chicken). Both of the broths was super flavorful and fresh. The New York strip meat was also thinly sliced to where it cooked in the broth giving it even more umami! This place also serves sake and cold pressed hard seltzer's if you're in the spirit. What's even better? It closes till 3am on the weekends, so that you're pho cravings will always be satisfied.
google avatar

Yelp
Normally I don't like pho, since i grew up eating it all the time. But Pho King changed that for me. This is the only place I get pho! I switch off between the chicken and beef, with thick/fresh noodles. Their broth tastes like a home cooked meal, better than my family's that's for sure. If you're dining in, the noodles are cooked to a perfect texture with filling (but not too heavy) portions of protein. I'm very picky with my meatballs and they've got the best ones out there. If you're ordering Togo, they undercook the noodles a bit so when you're preparing your meal they don't get soggy. Amazing! Aside from the main entrees their appetizers are great as well. The fried dumplings and spring roll with their in-house sauces are my personal favorite, especially the in-house chili oil (I could eat it alone). Pho King always gives me a phenomenal experience. The staff is so friendly and helpful; along with their choice of happy jams, it makes you feel at home. Out of all Vietnamese Pho restaurants I've been to in Houston, Pho King is top 1. And that's coming from someone who's Viet. I highly recommend dining in before ordering Togo to get the full experience. Will forever recommend this place to my friends and family!

Yelp
I guess I will be the first review here to use the pun: this place is Pho King delicious!! Pho King has a clean and trendy atmosphere, with plenty of seating for groups. The service is super attentive and friendly. Food is out quickly and is SO good. I tried the bun suong, which had pork/chicken broth, thin pork slices, shrimp, and shrimp balls. The broth flavor was light and delish with the fried onion toppings. It's probably the lightest bowl of soup I've gotten from a pho place, which is a good thing if I don't want something so rich bc or lunch. I also tried the beef pho, and the broth had great flavor. The bowl had a lot of meat and it was tasty. The egg rolls were also served fresh and hot. Lots of flavor and the sauce it came with was so good. I really liked Pho King and hope to be back soon to try more dishes! Parking situation: on-site
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing soup. Cool sign. Interesting ambiance that takes a minute to get used to - very modern - but nice. This is the easiest 5 star I've given in a while. It's a pho place and it delivers. Both the beef and chicken broths are fantastic. The filet is great. The chicken meat is meh but it's never really that good in pho (or maybe I just don't like it in pho soup). The service is courteous and not in your face. And the broth!!! Doesn't get much better than this. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
The vegan pho here is good. It has all of the spices and aromas of the traditional version but with vegetable (mushroom possibly?) broth, veggies, and tofu. - a Vietnamese person.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! We were hooked after our first visit and are now regulars :)
google avatar

Nhi P.

Yelp
The eggrolls were about the same as any other pho restaurant but the broth for the wonton noodle soup did not disappoint. I got it with pho tuoi since i like the fatter rice noodles. I finished my entire bowl!
google avatar

Nikki R.

Yelp
This Pho cafe is near my place and I had a craving, so decided to try it out today. It's well kept, dining area and bathrooms alike. Well all I can speak for is the ladies bathroom.. very clean. Not at all disappointed in the Pho. The broth was flavorful, and the dressings provided is just enough. Some places provide a mountain of sprouts, cilantro, basil & lime, and I always feel kind of guilty because we don't typically use even half of it. It's so much. They've got the portion need down to a science. The customer service is exceptional & what a thoughtful touch to include a place to hang a purse or wristlet at the end of the table! I luv' it!! I enjoyed this neighborhood cafe & will return.
google avatar

Daniela T.

Yelp
Great Pho!!! I get the mushroom broth with tofu and it's the best one I've ever had. Great service too. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Sunny D.

Yelp
First time here and loved it. Small place but big flavor. Everything was simply amazing, from the service to the pho. Clever name and decor was great too :) We had vegan pho - small, which was phenomenal, combination pho - small, and my partner loved it. Perfect size for sharing my leftover noods. And the fried eggrolls were crispy and delicious served with beautiful romaine lettuce to wrap it in and sauce. For drinks we ordered the thai tea and iced soy milk, both so yummy! Danny was awesome and so very welcoming! They had the basketball game on next to a marvel movie which made for a great date night. Thanks again! We will definitely be coming back soon!

Yelp
Worst place I've been too... never have I been to a place where they block off restrooms to customers. Needed to wash my hands and couldn't..... HORRIBLE customer service
google avatar

Joanna J.

Yelp
If you're like me and have a tendency to decide whether or not you'll go somewhere based on how big of a headache you anticipate parking will be then ignore the fact that Pho King is on Washington and don't let that deter you. The last time I came on a Monday evening there was ample parking. I ordered pho gau (fatty brisket), and it was delicious. Super flavorful broth and extremely quick service. They don't skimp on the meat so come hungry. They also have vegan pho! Very friendly staff as well. There was another customer who seemed like they were trying pho for the first time and naturally had a ton of questions. The cashier patiently listened to every single question, answered happily, and gave solid recommendations. By the end of my meal I was shocked there weren't more people dining here. Excellent food, service, and cleanliness. 10/10 would recommend if you're in the area and craving a delicious bowl of pho.
google avatar

Mariana S.

Yelp
I placed an online order for pickup and it was convenient and easy. This was some of the best pho I've had. Thai tea was also good. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Chuck W.

Yelp
I tried this place on a friends recommendation. Cool name! I like they have fun with it. It's pho king great! I ordered the fried Vietnamese egg rolls, you get two, with lettuce and dipping juice, it's not saucy. It has a mild heat and great flavors. Ordered the fatty brisket, broth noodles and protein were on point, abundance of beef and tenderness. They don't really offer full service. You'll look at a menu and order. Pay and take a seat, after that you'll be attended to, if you need a refill, or need a plate moved out of your way they got you. There were four of us today and not one person disappointed! That includes my 13 year old son. He can be picky at times. To be fair he's a pho appreciator. Go and see if you can pho king enjoy yourself! I did
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
What a nice location for pho! Located in the heights area with ample parking within the plaza. Greeted by Joe and he gave great recommendations on which pho to order and provided great hospitality. We just got the beef broth with all the meats in it. The broth was very nice and not oily at all. Loved the flavors and was perfect on a cold day. Favorite meats was the brisket and the fatty brisket. Really hit the spot on getting our pho fix! Will return!
google avatar

Trisha P.

Yelp
Ordered Bun Suong - Shrimp Balls Vermicelli Soup, Mi Hoanh Thanh Xa Xiu - Wonton Noodle Soup W/Bbq Pork, Bowl of Meatballs (9), and Spring Rolls (1)....all was pho king delicious!! That broth man...broth is everything and this broth was so so yummy! The bowl of meatballs come in pho broth so I was able to taste different broths. I ordered delivery so can't comment on the customer service but I would definitely order again!
google avatar

Yelp
Damn I wish I didn't discover this place. My diet is so eff'ed. The pho here is very authentic with that distinctive aroma that is only found in well made fresh broth. The pho broth is light, crisp, and clear like a well made both should be. Anise and onion perfume the bowl without being too overpowering. I got the fatty brisket and it was sliced thin with a generous amount of fat cap on the brisket. I'd be amiss not to mention the noodles which were well cooked and still with a bit of chew to them. Surprisingly the prices were really reasonable consider the area and rent, just a dollar or two more than what you'd pay in the suburbs. I also got egg rolls for an appetizer and they were quite solid. It's really nice to have a great pho place inside the loop instead of driving all the way to Chinatown. Parking is super easy and the staff were incredibly nice.
google avatar

Charlene L.

Yelp
The broth, meat everything is AWESOME here. As someone who craves by night pho locations (iykyk) this place checks all the marks and more. The broth is so rich and the bone marrow (with bone!) is so perfect and not overwhelming to add into your pho. This place outshines every pho place that has opened within 5 miles. The meat quality surpasses any pho place I've had that isn't going overboard with flashiness while providing quality ingredients (silky filet mignon, good quality fatty brisket, flavorful meatballs). They also serve other noodles! Drinks are also great to top it all off. We had cafe sua da and a Thai tea that was very refreshing and comforting to balance a warm and humble pho. Customer service was attentive without bothering and we could not be more thankful for this hangover cure in our neighborhood.

Yelp
I was craving Pho while I was on vacation in Houton for the first time and stayed in a hotel in the museum district. I found this place on Yelp with good reviews so me and my girlfriend went to check it out. I just got to say that the food was delicious. My beef brisket bowl was great and being in the craving ordered the large bowl and was not disappointed. The staff working there was awesome too, they had great friendly customer service and if I'm ever there again will stop by for the food and the people. Thanks guys!

Matthew N.

Yelp
Service was great, employees were very kind and friendly. The chicken and beef broth were both very good! Would definitely return

Yelp
This place is a 13/10. Food is amazing. I got the pho with steak and meatballs and it was the best I've had around town. Service was outstanding. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Great egg rolls! We each liked our pho - one beef with filet and one wonton noodle soup with BBQ pork and shrimp. Staff is friendly and they have a good drink selection. Fun decor too!
google avatar

Yelp
First time coming and it was amazing! The green tea Heineken was so good and I don't even like beer. The pho was amazing also. Very good brother and noodle and meat quality and quantity
google avatar

Natalie D.

Yelp
Run, don't walk to this new pho spot on Washington! It's counter service and everyone that works here is so friendly. I ordered the pho and it was delicious. The broth is super clean and meat is great quality. I like the menu because they cater to vegans as well (e.g. vegan pho) and with liquor, beer, and other assortment of items, this place has it all. They also have purse hooks under the table (such a small detail but I appreciate that!). P.s. Banh mi coming soon!
google avatar

Diem A.

Yelp
Great new pho place in Washington Heights. The pho broth was delicious. It could have been hotter temperature wise but was still really good. The initial presentation of my small pho tai wasn't the prettiest but it didn't distract from the taste. The small and large bowls are the same size bowl - maybe the contents are different size. The bone marrow was enormous! The broth that came with it was better and hotter than the pho broth. Would definitely order the bone marrow again. The egg rolls are good but only come with one piece of lettuce. People who actually use the lettuce to wrap the eggroll in and eat it would appreciate one piece of lettuce per egg roll. The napkins here are awful!!! They are so thin and only good for one wipe each. I probably went through at least 10 napkins. Please invest in better quality napkins. The service was pretty friendly and attentive. Parking can be a challenge in the evenings.

Yelp
This people pick up online orders before 11:30 I got to the restaurant to pick up 15 mins before clothing it was an online order and they want to say they don't have the ingredients to make the food yet they never called me I drove 12 miles this place is trash full of ignorance lazy people DONTCOME HERE PLS
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I had the chance to come have lunch at Pho King and it was very tasty! The variety of pho was very good. A plus for me was that the pho was served HOT I could see the steam coming off the broth. The broth was very flavorful and hot enough to where you can take your time and enjoy it on a cold afternoon. we will definitely return.

Yelp
... BEST Pho I've had outside my MOMs HOUSE I leave feeling the same happiness THANK YOU for the hospitality and home style food, We'll be eating here for a long time, every time I crave my moms food -
