The Late-Night Love Story of LA’s Koreatown and Vietnamese Pho | Eater LA

"Previously located at Alexandria Plaza, Pho LA was one of the first 24-hour pho restaurants in Koreatown and I recall it becoming a late-night hangover staple—people would line up at 1 or 3 a.m. as the nightclub and bar crowd sought bowls of pho." - Lynn Q. Yu

Google
Large portion sizes with a serve yourself side bar with sprouts, kitchen, jalapeños, etc. Speedy service too! The meatballs in the pho tasted fantastic. The noodles were a tad on the mushier side, but were still delicious. Would definitely go back!

Google
I got a number 14 and it was absolutely incredible! It was just like in the picture, the best Pho I’ve had in all of Los Angeles. - the pricing is a bit steep, but trust me, it’s totally worth it!

Google
There's a good reason why this place is five stars. Truly great portions. Flavors out of bounce. Very reasonable priced. Staff are super friendly. Restaurant is very chic and clean. Love the fresh kimchi and basil and sprouts bar. Recommended A+

The pho was good! The meat was tender as well! So much flavor in the broth, but not as clean as I like. I love that they have a fixings bar, so you can get all the toppings you want! (Swear places are stingy with the jalapeños,lol). Meat was fresh, even the rare steak! Anyway, I had the special pho, shrimp egg rolls and a Jarritos! I did not like the egg rolls, they were mushy inside (see pic). However, I love that they have a drink cooler for options other than traditional drinks! Totally going back to this, and would highly recommend.

I got the number 12, it was quite delicious! I finished my bowl. A good portion of beef, so not skimpy whatsoever. The pho feels quite refreshing and healthy. The place has a nice atmosphere as well.

This order was delivered by GrubHub and was delivered in appropriate time. The flavor of the pho broth was a little underwhelming and left me wanting a stronger taste. The restaurant does take the time to create an authentic broth but may cut the time short, leading to a lighter flavor. Since the broth can easily make or break a good bowl of Pho, this broth is 4 out of 5 stars, which is great for a regular location. While it's not the best in the area, it still has decent flavor. The chicken was a little chewy and did not soften after sitting in the broth for a while. The freshness of the chicken is questionable. As a frequent pho enthusiast, I was disappointed that this restaurant did not offer spring rolls, which is my go-to appetizer when judging a pho restaurant. This time I opted for the fried egg rolls and I was not impressed with the texture or flavor. Everything in the egg roll tasted old and lacked a desirable flavor. The pho broth container and the chicken &noodles container were both of good quality, as there were no spills in the bag, and kept everything warm during delivery. However, the pho ingredients and the egg rolls were delivered in Styrofoam packaging which is environmentally irresponsible. As seen in the pictures, the container with the egg rolls was either cut or melted in an unusual way. I suspect the restaurant cut the box to allow for venting and to prevent melting. Getting rid of the Styrofoam containers would yield a higher service rating. Overall, not too bad. I'd visit this restaurant again if I'm in the area.

Google
First time having pho in LA & this place did not disappoint for a late night eat. The menu was simple, not a lot of options, but I love a simple menu. I got the combo pho, broth was very flavorful, and it actually came out still very hot. They do offer self-serve garnishment for those of you who love those extra lime, basil, & bean sprouts.

Google
What a pleasant surprise! The service here is very fast, friendly and efficient. The portions here are also extremely large and packed with lots of great flavor so come extra hungry! Pictured: -Chicken Curry Donkatsu -Kimchi (available to grab at the self-service bar along with a mixed array of veggies and herbs)

Yelp
I like coming here. Pho is perfectly seasoned without it being too oily or salty. I like that I get to bring my own toppings from the bar. It is sort of a self service: you get to order at the counter and serve yourself the toppings. I think for this reasob it may be the owner is also the wait staff? And for this reason a lot of the server duties are neglected...? I get to pay the tips upfront before I even get any service but the food is served and I dont have drinks I ordered. No spoon at my table etc. If I don't pay any tip like a food court, that's understandable but I pay the tip in advance and be expected to constantly ask for things other than items that I need to serve myself annoys me a bit. But because the food is superb, I'm going back.

Yelp
My friend was really in the mood to try some fun from this location. I decided to try the fried rice. Service was very nice store wasn't what I was expecting. Overall nice spacious store. Food came out piping hot so be careful.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice, first time was about a year ago, it was okay and last 2 weeks ago I also came here only because I was closed by, just wanted something to hold my hunger before my friends party. Is the same as I remember it a year ago. The only difference is a new cashier. You order at the counter then they bring the food to your table if you're eating in. You can sit anywhere. I ordered the he combination pho, it supposed to have 5 different kinds of meat; beef ( was over cooked), tripe( ok), brisket ( dried like the beef), 1 tiny meat ball cut in half, and tendons ( 2 tiny pieces that barely fits into my spoon). I dig around my noodles and found 2 tiny pieces of tendons lol, the cashier lady walked by and asked if that's all the tendons I'm getting since I paid almost $16.50 for it and I showed her. She then brought out 2 big pieces of tendons in a small bowl for me which I appreciated but I noticed that it was tiny pieces pressed together as one big piece, when I put the pieces into my soup it separated into tiny pieces. Usually in most restaurants, is one big piece for us to pick up to enjoy and not have to dig around looking for it lol. The condiments for the pho is in a cart by the door, you get as much as you can eat, is a good way to not waste it cuz in other restaurants I see lots of people don't eat the beans sprouts or the basil and is a waste. And this restaurant also have kimchi, all you can eat. I guess because they also sell katsu items. For $16.50 and almost $5 for a drink, is too overpriced, they stingy on the meats, you get 2 slices of everything and is over cooked, it says rare beef, I got well done. I'm sure there's other pho restaurants in the area, which I should check out too. If you don't mind warm broth, less meat and over priced noodles then come here, at least there's free kimchi with your pho lol

Yelp
It is indeed pho lala! Tried their brisket Pho, and their bowl size is bigger than my face- yes, it's good pho! You will get your own side dishes and Kimchi. I would be happier if they had the fresh spring rolls for my side dish, but we get the shrimp egg rolls instead which we also loved.. Staff are nice, very friendly and recommended their best seller, parking just in front, restroom available and price range around $12ish - $18ish pho. The best rainy day soup.

Yelp
Respectfully, one of the worst pho places that I've been in my life. The broth was bland and there was barely any meat.

Yelp
No surprise I went to Pho spots more than anything else when in town. This spot was so clean and the staff was so nice! I have never seen a self serve pho bar before. I got food to go but if we had dined in they had a topping bar which was heaven to me since I add extra bean sprouts and nobody ever gives me enough lol. I love that this is the 2nd place that has the pho to go containers! Game changer! The quality of the broth was so good even before the hoisin and the hot sauce. I added broccoli to use less noodles and was not disappointed. Will def go back when downtown

Chris C.

Yelp
I'm so happy I found this place since it's close to where I live. Honestly, it's the best spot for pho in Ktown! I have to admit, I'm not a fan of any of their four rolls, but the pho? Seriously, it's unbeatable. I also love that the sides are self-serve. I can grab as many onions as I want. If you're Korean American, this place is a must. I haven't tried their other dishes like donkatsu or noodles yet, but the pho alone makes it worth it! A must try!

Yelp
* Price: average $12-15 for a bowl of soup, fried rice, etc. 3+ stars * Ambiance: clean and spacious. Simple decor. 4 stars. * Location: Ktown. It used to be our beloved Nakwon restaurant. Next to Hodori. Free parking in the front which can be tight and packed. 3+ stars. * Meals: yulgaejang meets pho and they have a baby! If you like korean and vietnamese foods, this is it. 4 stars. * Service: pleasant. 4 stars. We used to go to Nakwon after work, holidays or late night. Since they closed during pandemic, pho Lala took over. We decided to check out after work and did not hate it! The restaurant has a face lift. The decor is simple but cute and spacious. The menu is simple with pho, fried rice, donkatsu, etc. We placed order and paid for soda or bottle water at the counter. Food was brought to our table. There was no free tea or water. There is a small cart of toppings for pho (mints, onions, bean sprouts, etc) and kimchi. We had brisket phở and spicy seafood phở. The brisket phở has good flavor, steaming cinnamon, star anise and ginger. Siracha and housing sauce is available at the table. The spicy seafood phở is a fusion of yulgaejang stock with phở noodles, fish balls, shrimps, muscles and small crabs. I also put mints and bean sprouts as toppings. We probably will come back to try donkatsu and fried rice next time.

Yelp
Excellent food, friendly staff, and a super clean place. I've had the Brisket Pho and the Chicken Pho and both are super delicious.

Yelp
my boyfriend and I come here very often, we both enjoy their food! Very clean establishment, service is quick and friendly, food is fresh and tasty! I do wish more protein was added to their pho but I can't complain about it flavor wise. Definitely would recommend grabbing some pho here, perfect for a date.

Yelp
I've been to this spot a couple of years ago and I got the pho. Came back today and I see that they have katsu on their menu. Katsu sounded better than pho, so I got the curry chicken katsu, #6 on the menu. Ordering katsu at a pho spot sounded like a risk, but I'm so so glad I got it. The chicken was so crispy! The breading was perfect. The katsu also came with a cabbage salad, dressing, curry with potatoes and carrots, white rice, and a side of bone both. It was a complete meal! And every component was amazing. My friends all got pho and were amazed at how good the katsu was, even saying that it was better than the pho. So give it a try! Taking off one star due to service as it wasn't the best.

Yelp
Their pho is very good! They have a bar where you get your own toppings which is a plus for me! Place is very spacious and lots of seating available.

Yelp
The waitress closed the door in our faces. We're so hungry that we ignored her shitty behavior. Mediocre pho. And the moment you walk in it's just sad. The waitress is mean. Also they let the pho sit on the counter for a long time before bringing it out to the customer. Such a bad experience.

Yelp
As soon as I walked into this Pho restaurant, it felt clean and bright, nothing dull like all the other ordinary Pho restaurant. The menu was incredibly diverse and reasonably priced. One of the best things about this place is that you can grab as much of the side dishes as you want, which I really liked. I ordered the House Special Combo, and the flavor was absolutely amazing. The meat, in particular, stood out--it's not the cheap kind you'd find at some other Pho places. For instance, you have to try the meatballs--they're incredible. Unlike other Pho restaurants where the meat runs out before you're done with the noodles, this place does it right. Service was top notch excellent!! Everything about the experience was perfect. Highly recommend!

Paul Y.

Yelp
Broth is definitely more of a bone broth than a traditional pho broth. 3 pieces of brisket, one meatball cut in half, and the tiny piece of tripe and tendon with a gang of Korean rice noodles was a sick joke. It's not the noodles the Vietnamese use because it lacks the texture. Probably because it's overcooked and they're not using the right pho noodles. The pho is unique for sure, but I am not crazy about it due to the pure shortness of meat. So skimpy but I notice every restaurant in this plaza is hella cheap on their meat. Rent must be crazy. Self serve booth to grab your own onions, and toppings and the occasional kimchi. I would o og eat here if I'm desperate. $20 with tip and tax Ladies real sweet and the place is pretty clean and neat More like "pho hell nah" than "pho la la"

Yelp
PhoLala- If you're going to serve frozen instant donkatsu at least fry it long enough so the inside is cooked and not cold. You also didnt microwave the frozen curry long enough so that was ALSO cold and nasty. Since many of the customers were getting fried rice, I was along with them was also served "day old" rice that smelled really bad. The pho has no flavor and was bland. People don't eat here, PLEASE!

Yelp
Y'all, the pho is really good, but the eggrolls? They are literally the exact same egg rolls as Panda Express.

Yelp
I'm giving this restaurant a one star rating because the owner or whoever was there working was being so damn rude smdh. I came so far from out of town so me and my family decided to look on google and seen this restaurant it was giving such good rating and got almost 5 star. It was the first search on google. So we decided to go there, when we got there. The lady at the counter didn't seat us or show us to the table, we had to seat our own self. Then we sat there for almost 15min. She didn't even look over at our table or came up to us and ask if we need anything or take our order. She was focus on the to go order. She was a rude as fk. Don't go to that restaurant, she don't give a damn about your service or money. Rude ass and no good customer service at all!!!

Katie N.

Yelp
Very clean, nice, and select your own greens bar. As someone who is Vietnamese, I can say that the pho is good. The broth is clear and the portions are reasonable.

Cathy C.

Yelp
The food was great that broth was fire and the service was fast and welcoming I love that we can get our own fixings for dine in. Over all it was a great place.
