The Boston Restaurants We Kept Returning to in 2024 | Eater Boston

"Probably Pho Le, The Dubliner, and Saltie Girl. While all three have wildly different and excellent menus, the hospitality and service is the cherry on top. These are three places I always want to be." — Tanya Edwards, freelance writer and Eater Boston contributor. The endorsement pairs strong, varied menus with standout hospitality and service, describing this spot as one of three consistently desired destinations." - Erika Adams

Google
We were visiting from Charlotte for an Odyssey of the Mind competition and found this awesome place! I’ve had homemade pho and this ranks up there with it! A hot bowl of pho is the best! We went the first night and it was delicious pho. It was so good, we went back the 2nd night. The owner recognized us and warmly greeted us. It’s a classic Vietnamese Pho restaurant! Great service, great pho.

I found this restaurant on Google maps. The pics online show the menu and at the bottom there's a note that says tell us if you have allergies. I have dietary issues and can't eat gluten. Vietnamese and Thai are one of my go to foods, as long as they have dishes that don't use soy sauce or hoisen. I called ahead to ask. The person that answered didn't know much about what was gluten free, which was totally fine because they went back and forth with the chef to ask questions. The pho is gluten free. When I got there I asked about the rice and rice noodle dishes. Again, there was a little back and forth between the kitchen, but they could accommodate me for those dishes as well! I got the chicken noodle bowl and it was delicious! I used to live in the Seattle area where there is Vietnamese food everywhere. I've been living in the Midwest for a few months and haven't found a pho place there where I can eat. I was so happy to find this place! Not only was the food exactly what I was hoping for, but they went above and beyond to help accommodate what I can eat. They never made me feel like I was being difficult. They were so kind and helpful. The portions are large and the prices are great. I can't recommend this place enough!!

Google
Stopped in and had the medium chicken pho and a couple of spring rolls. Everything tasted good and I couldn’t finish the medium pho bowl so I had some good leftovers for later. Can’t wait to come back on the weekend to try the spicy beef pho that is only available on the weekends.

Google
This place is pretty good. The staff was very friendly, we felt well taken care of. Not my favourite broth ever but still a dependable bowl of pho. I like that you can add an egg, wish more places would offer that! Their iced coffee is quite good and I’d suggest it over the other sweet drink options

Google
I arrived at this place and I liked it very much. They took great treent to me. The place looked clean. The order took about 10 minutes. I got home and prepared my Udon and I loved it! I liked the tofu spring roll a lot. For the next time I want to eat there and enjoy the full experience.

Google
Not sure how this place isn't packed on Saturday night. Awesome food, super friendly staff and fair price. Haven't had vermicelli in a while. Got the combo and it was just great. Wife got the Pho and the flavor of the broth was on point!

Google
Management change has resulted in identical or up charged pricing with reduced quantity and quality of previous menu items. Went to Japan for a year, came back and this place now has worse portions and menu presentation than panda. Lower your expectations or prepare for serious disappointment. If your food is going to suck, don’t also skimp on portion size. Talked to the manager on the phone about my order, didn’t get much other than “pinchy merry cone” which I didn’t order so I came to the internet.

Google
We had never been here before but enjoy trying new things. The food did NOT disappoint! My wife and I had pho and the kids had chicken/beef lo mein. The vegetable egg rolls were phenomenal! The bowls of pho were so big I simply could not finish, so I get leftovers! 😁 If you’re in the area and like Vietnamese food, this is a good place to come to. It’s definitely going to be on our “places to return to” list. 🙏

Yelp
So delicious I wish I could eat it everyday. I used to think pho was alright and I'd have it a few times a year but now I wish I could have it at least once a month. You just gotta add sauces and toppings until you like it and it's just delicious, warm, and happy. I don't like egg rolls but my husband ordered one and I tried it and dang I would honestly get one myself cause it's one of the better egg rolls I've had in my life. I cant wait to have pho from here again!

Yelp
Chicken pho spring rolls with peanut sauce. So so good best pho around 10/10 recommend! I tell everyone I know about this place! Service is fast and easy have great people! Ambiance is just what it should be not too much just enough decor but I come for the food!

Yelp
Quick service for some good food here in J-Ville. Ordered their chicken fried rice and chicken lo-mein (I know, we are basic). Chicken was really well marinated and had great flavor! Super reasonable prices, and their takeout was super speedy! A good last minute choice for our night in

Jessica M.

Yelp
Always great food here. My husband and I go for the boba which is amazing the best in Jacksonville. They have all kinds of flavor and this is an authentic Vietnamese spot. I tried the Vietnamese coffee today which was AMAZING and really flavorful. This says a lot because i'm very picky with my coffee, I didn't need to add a thing to it!!! Staff is attentive towards customers needs, and is a cute spot to get pho!

Yelp
Pho le is literally GOD SENT!! I miss it so much because I no longer live in NC and no other pho place can compare to PHO LE. They have a special place in my heart forever AND THEIR CHILI!!!!
google avatar

Mary P.

Yelp
This was our first time here. We ordered a regular pho and some spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty good. I have only 2 complaints. the servers didn't properly great us an only said are you sitting down? They were always away and never checked on us. And that the noodles in the pho was cut up like I was a child. I personally look forward to longer noodles and to see that it was broke or cut up made me a bit disappointed. Other than that it was an alright experience.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Banh Mis on the East Coast!! The rest of the menu is amazing as well. And this place has some of the best service in Jacksonville.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome! They have upcoming additions to them menu consisting of KBBQ short ribs dish, crab rangoon, and edamame. My first time trying this place was a great experience. Staff was super nice and was very quick with service. I loved the decorations that gave tribute to Vietnamese culture and life. Their food was delicious and the boba smoothies + Vietnamese iced coffee is a high recommend. I can't wait to come back and try more. Chỗ này làm đồ ăn rất ngon! mấy người phải tới đây thử cho biết. đồ ăn ở đây làm nhớ Việt Nam
google avatar

Yelp
All the food is amazing. Service is decently good. I got pho and egg rolls, food was hot and fresh. I fully recommend trying this place at least once.

Yelp
See my review here: https://www.semperpotpie.com/pho-le-jacksonville-nc/ We move away next week and we're going to miss you Pho Le!

Yelp
Since I'm Viet my expectations are really high, the pho is both tasty and smells good, the vermicelli bowl is really good a little skimping on the meat but that's normal, I tried the shrimp paste app and it was actually really good like a shrimp patty, pho was 14$ vermicelli was like 13$ and the shrimp paste was 7$, they didn't check up on you as often as other places maybe because they were busy but the vibe of the place is just like any other pho place. And the fried tofu 6$ was super super hot nothing special about it, it was ya know just tofu

Zaria S.

Yelp
after one bite I noticed the food tasted funny, like it was in the freezer for a while and then cooked and served. service was good but when asked for a refund the manger said he could only give me 2 dollars back for a 20 dollar order. Food tasted extremely freezer burnt and would not recommend.

Yelp
Great Vietnamese!!! Finally found this while shopping in Jacksonville yesterday. Nice and spacious restaurant with lots of parking, located in a shopping plaza. All of the staff were friendly, tending to all the tables. The bahn mi was delicious and perfect. Both the grilled pork bowl and the pho were so fresh. We are so glad we found this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Quick service. Staff was prompt but unable to communicate well when asked questions. Ambiance was ok. They really need a new carpet and the tile floor outside the bathroom was slippery and dangerous.

Yelp
Service is the only reason why I bumped it up to 4 stars. What other Asian spot checks up on you during your meal and doesn't avoid eye contact when they walk past you? Quick, polite, and attentive. I've also ordered take out before and they are timely and meticulous with how your food is packed. My food review is based on the spring rolls and vermicelli bowl. I would give it 3 stars based on the fact that the spring rolls were sad. "Winter rolls" would've been a more appropriate name. Where the greens at? There was only lettuce.. and one shrimp... and one small sliver of meat. I got played, y'all. I just paid $4.99 for disappointment when I get that for free on the daily. The vermicelli bowl was alright. It's hard to screw that up, but it was missing the element of cilantro. C'mon man. Someone mentioned dirty doors, like.. what, bro? EVERYONE knows the dirty looking spots (on the outside) are the best. Unfortunately, I would not come here again just because the spring rolls let me down. Maybe the pho is bomb. I'll never know.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
My go-to pho place when I'm missing a little taste of home. There's not a lot of asian restaurants nor markets in town so I was very happy to find this place. I've never dined inside the restaurant so I can't review the indoor seating experience. I've done only takeout and the food is always ready and prepared by my arrival. The cashiers are very kind and friendly. The food is packed neatly to ensure the broth doesn't tip over and spill. They supply fresh veggies and the regular size portion is very fulfilling. The combination pho is delicious and I can't wait to try other menu items here!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was not very busy and we sat for a little before we were asked for our drinks. I was able to see trash and it was a bit off putting. Aside from that the pho was good. It was slightly oily but it still satisfied me. This is a cash only place and is a bit frustrating. Luckily we had cash but if you don't have cash you have to use the atm in the front of the store which will charge you. This place has potential they need to clean up a bit and get modern with card transactions. There aren't many pho places in this area so this place will at least fulfill the craving.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing and quick! We went for a Sunday lunch. We also took the beef spicy noodle Togo which is also amazing. Completely authentic and great customer service. The ambiance was clean and intimate. 10/10 recommended.

Yelp
I had bad experience for our first time visit since I'm from northern Virginia im used to pho and been craving for one drove to Jacksonville from new Bern though I can't get me some real pho as it turns out I was so disappointed my pho noodle was so mushy it was like eating baby food and my parents pho was the same we told the boys cashier and left Zero

Kb K.

Yelp
Food is always hot and ready. So so delicious!!! And they're so nice!! Will always order from there.

Chelsea N.

Yelp
The food is pretty good. They get busy and they don't have a lot of staff so things can get a bit hectic. Posting recent (2023) menu pics.

Yelp
TAKE OUT REVIEW Service: n/a star Food: 3.5 stars Ambiance: n/a stars Cleanliness: n/a stars Visiting Emerald Isle for the week and needed a hot soup pick-me-up. This place is a good 40 mins from where we were staying but probably the closer of 2 Vietnamese restaurants we visited during our stay (Pho 7 was the other). We only tried the Pho Dac Biet here. The broth was clear but on the saltier side. Also had a sweeter flavor. Not my favorite, but doable if you have a pho craving.

Mike D.

Yelp
They give you a lot food. I ordered the medium chicken pho to go. Two people could definitely split it. If you have a big appetite and want to get some good pho, this is the place.

Yelp
On a calm Wednesday night after an exhausting two days in the sun, a few friends decided to get some pho . We had pho at different restaurant in Jackson that we liked a week before but pho le was closer so we decided to give it a try 4 stars on yelp is definitely worth checking out. The plaza is nice and clean as well as the restaurant. The rest of my party and I (8 in total), were seated immediately and brought waters within the first five minutes of siting. I particularly appreciate this because siting at a table with nothing is just as bad as waiting for a table in my point of view. Needless to say the service is fast and accurate. The fresh spring rolls are as delicious as I imagined and came out much faster than I expected *I recommend one order person*. The fried rolls were good but came out a little over fried. I didn't get a boba tea but a few in the party did and really enjoyed them. The main plates here are huge to say the least and very well portioned. I got a small brisket pho that was absolutely mesmerizing. I left in a daze. Something that I really enjoyed was the side plate filled with bean sprouts, mint leaves, limes, and jalapeños. If I get a craving for pho I will definitely be heading back. P. S - there's a cold stone next door which is an added bonus if you're not full

Yelp
This place is so authentic it gave my grandfather a flashback to Vietnam and he had a panic attack in the bathroom would highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Quiet and relaxing environment to grab a hot bowl of pho. Reminds me of the places back home in Southern California. Vietnamese sandwich is pretty good as well. Servers are typically friendly and inviting.
google avatar

Yelp
First off clean your outside doors Filthy it gives off the appearance that the place is dirty and inside it was clean except for table condiments which were caked on gross Come on we are still in the midst of COVID Be extra clean! Food good Service good
google avatar

Yelp
Great Pho! Nice selection. Decent decor... Great Vietnamese coffee & Bobo tea. Customer service is friendly although we would have preferred not to be seated next to the screaming baby while we were still hungry...
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to find legit pho restaurants and this is one of them. I travel a lot and always on the hunt for some pho. I ordered the chicken pho and it was delicious! Definitely recommend this place!

ILoveFoods H.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant because it has great food and service. The employees are always kind and helpful. The place is fairly big and has a calm atmosphere.

Mike S.

Yelp
Great pho, authentic and well portioned. No Vietnamese beer or Sake or this place would be a five. They do have tendon and tripe which a lot of pho restaurants do not.
google avatar

Yelp
Must have hit Pho Le at the perfect time. I know both me and my wife were already hungry, but it seemed insanely good tonight. I've been wanting to try a banh mi style sandwich and found it here when I was searching through Yelp. Since I had never tried one before, I obviously have nothing to compare it to, but WOW! We ordered spring rolls and a Vietnamese style sandwich (as it's listed under their appetizers) as an appetizer we could share. The rolls came it fairly quickly and were very good, the sandwich came out that we split in half and we were both blown away. I WILL BE HERE AGAIN FOR THIS SANDWICH, PROBABLY MULTIPLE TIMES. I even joked with my wife that this is going to be something I crave again in the future, she laughed, and then ordered another sandwich. We ended up splitting a regular size bowl of the combo pho which we both enjoyed, and splitting another sandwich which we both crushed. If you've never tried one, definitely worth giving a shot (we chose the pork option). Also, the Limeade was very good IMO. We both thought it was an awesome meal at the perfect time. Best of all, our bill was $26! Haven't had a meal that cheap in awhile. All in all, I'm am not going to say it's the best Vietnamese meal I've eaten, but I ate this one at the perfect time, and for a price that low!?, I'll be back.

Kim L.

Yelp
Pho Ga was amazing!! The broth was so flavorful. I really appreciated the star anise. The large portion was more than I've received from any other restaurant! It was extremely affordable. I was very taken aback by the rudeness of the owners. I can totally understand being busy & not having an order ready in 15 minutes. It's unacceptable to tell said customer immediately upon walking in to pickup the order to "have a seat" without explanation. The order took about 30 minutes in total which again would not have been an issue if the owners had kindly said like, "Would you like to have a seat? Your order is not yet ready." Instead of getting 5 stars from me for price & quality of food, I gave them 4 for how impolite they were.
google avatar

Kendra D.

Yelp
Workers are all very nice pho is amazing here! The bahn mi is also great. Have never had a problem with the food or my order being wrong 10/10 recommend .
google avatar

Shee Maye O.

Yelp
Delicious food and friendly staff! My favorites are the Pho with combination of meats, spring roll, chicken and beef lo mien.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
One my go to restaurants. The food taste authentic and is always delicious. Friendly staff, uncomplicated menu. I've tried just about everything here. Only negative is that I sometimes show up on Monday's because I forgot they are closed on Monday's.
google avatar

Jen T.

Yelp
For Jacksonville, NC, where this family who owns this place is likely the very few Vietnamese who live here... it's not a pretty decent place. The broth is on the sweeter side for me (and everyone has their own preferences!), the broth is fairly clear but still more condensed that usually as it should be a clear broth when made right. I've come to terms nothing can beat Mom's pho. The rare beef was good And the meatballs. I asked for wontons too, which were at additional cost (as expected), and they were tiny dinky wontons with a penny full of meat. Quite disappointed and sad! I did eat the entire bowl and drank the broth though. If you're craving pho, this is a decent place to go and authentic as it b probably gets in this town. I'd go again if I was in the area and really craving pho.
google avatar

Madison R.

Yelp
My husband and I legitimately come here once a week. The pho is AMAZING. The workers are so kind and sweet, and incredibly fast. On top of the amazing food, Pho Le has nailed a unique atmosphere that is unlike any other restaurant in Jacksonville. We love coming here and are so sad that during this time we can't enjoy this amazing place. Needless to say we miss you guys!
google avatar

Kirsten F.

Yelp
We went to Pho Le and were not impressed. The place looks dirty. The lighting was low and a lot of light bulbs were burned out. The seats are really beat. I felt like I was going to fall into one of them, so I asked to be moved. It wasn't any better. They are very worn. And have no springs in them. We tried the spring rolls and they were pretty good with peanut sauce. The Pho was okay, but had tons of noodles in it and the broth wasn't that great. I had to ask for more cilantro. . My husband had beef with rice. The beef was very dry. The rice was also dry like it had been in the rice cooker too long, although we came to the restaurant right after they opened for lunch. I don't think we will be back because it wasn't memorable.

Connie M.

Yelp
The food was very good and service fast but it was so hard to ignore the dirt and grime. There was food splattered on the wall of our booth and others down the line. We sat next to the stack of high chairs and you could see dried up food running down the legs. They were so beat up, really needed replacing. Shelves behind the counter were stacked with junk. The floor needed a good cleaning. Also, silverware is stored on the table in an open container. I won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Traveled all the way from Wilmington for this place, and would drive there all the time if I could! Best pho place in the area! I mean, nothing beats Fast Pho 99 in Buffalo, but this place was rocking!! The vietnamese eggrolls are spot on. Love that they provided siracha, hoisin, and chili pepper sauce in separate squirt bottles. A little odd with the shredded ice berg lettuce in the spring rolls.. Pho broth was the best in the area. Wonderful tray of toppings. Just wish they'd let you do the rare beef slices on the side like at the Buffalo places! Otherwise, totally worth the drive from Wilmington!!
google avatar

Diana N.

Yelp
After being in Germany for three years, I was dying for authentic Vietnamese food! Last night, we landed and I had to try this place since the reviews were so great. As soon as I walked in, I could smell the odors of the beef broth. I knew I found my go to pho spot. I got a combo vermicelli that was just like the ones I grew up with in Alhambra, CA. The spring rolls were crunchy and the pork was perfect! Hubs and kids got the pho... again.. perfection. For 4.50$ for kids pho, it was measly. It's better to get a full adult portion and split it among the kids. Same price essentially. Thai iced tea with boba was also spot on, but they were stingy on the boba. I wished they added more. I wanted to dock a star for vacuuming while we were still eating. I understand that they were closing soon, but it's hard to enjoy their tasty food and understand any conversation with a vacuum sweeping by your table. I just know not to go during closing time... won't deter me from coming back.
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Update to my previous review. They're still awesome. Service is amazing and food gets to you quickly!

Carolina H.

Yelp
They never let me down. The fried rice is good, the spring rolls are fresh, BUT THE PHO?!?!? The Pho is out of this world, super fragrant and flavorful. You will always get treated with respect and care here as well. Tip the waiters good here!
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Wife and I were out and about running errands. Wife suggested we have lunch here because she said the pho was really good. This restaurant is settled in an obscure location within a strip mall off Western. Not really a big deal, but location was surprising in relation to how great this place is. We were welcomed upon entering, but had to wait a little before being seated. After being seated the wait for service took longer than expected. It was lunch rush. We ordered our appetizers, main meals, and water all in one shot. Shrimp spring rolls, pork spring rolls, pork pho, and chicken pho we thought was enough food for the two of us. The spring rolls arrived in a short time. They looked amazing, but sort of bland with flavor. Shortly thereafter our pho arrived. We really enjoyed the pho and it was good as the wife promised. We don't venture much to Jacksonville, but in the future if we do, we may have to stop here again.
google avatar

Kayla A.

Yelp
So thankful to have this place close to our new home. Fast service and great pho, our go to order is either the fresh spring rolls or deep fried ones along with a #45 ( rare steak pho) I get regular size & my husband gets the large which is HUGE. So yummy!
google avatar

Austin K.

Yelp
Surprised by the four star rating on yelp. First off the staff is super nice but everything else just wasn't the greatest. We ordered the pork spring rolls and I could've swore it was beef inside. Even if it was pork, there wasn't much meat in there to talk about. We were expecting a variety of vegetables inside of the spring rolls, as advertised, but to our disappointment it was noodles and chopped up lettuce. We ordered a large chicken pho bowl plus rare beef and Chicken noodle bowl. The chicken across both dishes were very dry and over cooked, and the beef was over cooked too. Our iced Vietnamese coffee ordered at the beginning of the meal never came until after we reminded our server after paying. We really enjoyed the polite staff, but just wish the food was as good as their hospitality.
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
First time and I am a fan. I was greeted immediately by helpful men who made suggestions about the menu. I told them I was looking for something with rice noodles but not lo mein, and since it is warm out, I did not get the soup. I settled on number 15, the grilled chicken rice noodle bowl with Vietnamese egg roll. I also ordered a pork spring roll side. First of all, everything was beautifully presented even though I carried out. The spring rolls are the kind in the clear sticky rice paper and contained lettuce, rice noodles and delicious pork. 2 came with the 1 order and were bigger than I anticipated. The chicken was thin, tender and well seasoned, served over a bed of rice noodles. In the corner was a bit of salad, lettuce with carrots and bean sprouts. I am full and still have almost 65% of the food still in the box. If I lived in town I would frequent this restaurant often!

Yelp
I've had pho from Texas to California and now here in Jacksonville, NC. I can say hands down this is the best pho I've ever had and I've eaten at many different Vietnamese restaurants from coast to coast. I brought my two children with me and they both loved it as well. The staff was very friendly and they are quick to serve the meals. The prices are a little higher then most places I've been but worth it since the portions are accurate to the size you order. The large bowl of pho was too much for me but I ended up sharing some with my son after he ate all of his. I'm glad I found a spot I can go to regularly.
