The Best Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Quick and inexpensive, this soup is addictive. The basement location near Concordia University is perfect for when you want to keep your dinner date on the down low — or for when the only company you want is a huge bowl of chicken pho gà and a side of fresh rice paper rolls."

Oh gosh! This was delish! 😋So so fresh. Flavorful. The meats were cooked properly. Not dry at all!! They had a charcoal taste to them which we LOVED. My husband had the beef bun. Was fantastic and not chewy. I had the chicken and shrimp bun—it was sublime. Veggies were crisp. Service was prompt and attentive. Nice. And fast. Prices are displayed with taxes and are very reasonable for very large and filling portions. Highly recommend this place! The place is nicely renovated and updated. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
I come here often and the food is amazing every single time. The service is fast and workers are kind. All the dishes are great, but I highly recommend the Bun bo hue!!

Google
Very fine quality, at a very affordable price! Atmosphere is very cozy and comfy. This is always an option in my list! Their soups 🍲 are signature. Chicken wing 🍗 is crispy and beef is easy to eat and juicy. All in all, highly recommend 👌

Google
First time ever trying Vietnamese food and it did not disappoint! The portions are very big i got a small pho and was not able to finish it! The food was not overly salty and tasted really fresh & the price was worth the quantity! Food also came very fast and workers were nice! 10/10 would recommend

Google
sweet rustic spot, I support! fast service. lots of veggies in menu item #26. beware strict vegetarians - they unfortunately do not have vegetarian broth, I would encourage them (the owners) to look into attaining some savoury natural options for the vegetarian friends that come here. other than that my dish was great. I asked for it to be spicy so she switched beef broth for shrimp broth. I was satisfied! I like the 2 waitresses. One is fast and sassy, the other one is calm and fast. both needed!!!

Google
I have been going there for years. I don’t even live nearby. I have tried every pho restaurant in Montreal and this is by far the best. I order their number 27 (shrimp soup) with spicy broth and I’m in heaven. If you can’t eat too spicy, they can make adjustments but once you try it you will be hooked. I love this place!

Google
The pho was pretty good! The broth wasn't too salty and the meat(s) were quite flavourful. The service was super quick and friendly. The prices are right on the average, it not even a little bit cheaper. This is one of those "downstairs" restaurants, so the atmosphere is typically utilitarian, but comfy at the same time. It's certainly worth giving this place a try, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Google
This spot never disappoints! The spicy beef soup is abundant and so so flavourful! The combo plates are worth it. Lots of food, everything is delicious and fresh. I’d get the beef or shrimp (always cooked perfectly!)

Yelp
Pho is usually a hit or miss and we didn't expect to find such a hidden gem nearby where we stayed. Walking distance from our hotel and fair prices Our usual order is the Special with rare beef, flank, beef balls and tripes. Sizes are small, large and extra large. Prices are fair and comparable to other places. Quality was and service was good. The lady which I assume was the owner always served us with a smile and checked on us even though it was a busy night. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area and craving for some delicious pho :) This place can get busy later in the evening but it's not too noisy and food comes out in a timely manner.

Yelp
Got delivery from here tonight because Vietnamese food just sounded SO good. So happy we found this amazing spot. Food arrived super fresh and perfect. The beef combo plate had a very generous portion and had really tasty flavor. Will definitely order from here again!

Yelp
Delicious food and crispy rolls, always fast and easy to be served. Accessible and well located right on front of Guy metro station.

Yelp
I wanted something warm and this was within walking distance from where we were staying. I ordered the beef ball pho and it came out quickly. The broth is on the sweet side, but overall it hit the spot. Be warned that you will smell like smoke after leaving the place. There are dishes that are grilled and the ventilation isn't that great.

Yelp
Cheap, fast, convenient, and filling. A great place to get some pho near Concordia. They have 3 sized: regular, large, and extra large. A regular is enough for me but my friends who have bigger appetites can take a large and feel satisfied or an extra large to feel like they are carrying a food baby. I thought it could use a bit more meat and noodles and less broth but some people love the broth so it's up to your preferences.

Yelp
What a delightful surprise finding this restaurant. I noticed lots of to go brown bags and an empty dining room, when I came in. Glad I stayed, because the pho is absolutely DELICIOUS! I have had the fortune of tasting good phos in my life, including those served in the Eden Market, VA; Pho Nguyen Montreal surpasses all others!

Yelp
Was craving some late-night Vietnamese pho when I was visiting Montreal and found Pho Nguyen on Google Maps. This restaurant is a little difficult to find, since it's a little bit off the main road and you have to go down some short stairs. We got an extra large pho for takeout, in hopes that it was enough to share between the two of us, but it was really just enough for one person. The broth was very good, however, but the portion sizes just aren't it. With tax, the extra large came up to $14 - about average for your regular bowl of pho (especially since I'm coming from Markham/Toronto). I can't even imagine how small the 'small' is. Keep in mind neither of us eat a lot! We ended up going to McDonald's after just to satisfy the stomach.

Yelp
Pho was too sweet for my liking. The rare meat was fresh and cooked to tender state once drowned in hot broth. The fried spring rolls came at the right time when we were all waiting. The filling was not memorable but it did its job to satisfy our cravings while waiting. Before you leave, ORDER the iced filtered black coffee with condense milk in a to-go cup. They add the perfect amount of sweetened condense milk to balance the bitterness. Perfect sweetness after a bowl of hot noodles.

Yelp
Came here on a cold night. It was Friday or maybe because it was cold but it was busier but service is quick. Ordered, ate, and paid within 30 minutes. Solid.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Quick service. Beef with noodles and salad and roll 10 bucks. It's pretty good for the price. I'm sure there's better spots but this was still a great spot. Shrimp says bread crumbs ... nope they were like beer battered very bready. Not at all for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Yesterday, I was craving pho for lunch and tried this place. cheap price for good quality and quantity of food. Price already include taxes which is good. I've ordered #15 pho extra large with spring rolls that comes with a peanut sauce - both were very tasty and delicious. The pho is hot and flavourful, generous amount of meat and noodles as bean sprouts. Really enjoyed my meal. I will definitely come back. They also offer takeout which I might try also in the future for order dishes.

Yelp
Finally found good pho around Concordia! Although it took me awhile to try this place out, I'm glad I finally did. This small restaurant is located next to Guy metro and Concordia University, making it perfect for students. I decided to try out their beef pho along with an imperial roll and spring roll. The pho came in a decent portion (generous in noodles though) and had tasty clear broth, while the imperial and spring roll were larger in size than most places, well-made and tasted pretty good. The only downside would be that the spring roll did not come with the peanut sauce, but with a sauce that resembles more like hoisin with some peanut bits. All in all, this place serves decent pho for a fair price making it great for a quick bite if you're around the area.

Yelp
Favorite soup in montreal! Beef & chicken pho! And grilled meats. Totally recommand!

Yelp
This is my second time having pho in Montreal, the first was pho bang new york, where I found the broth to be bland. This was not a problem here, the broth is amazingly beefy and you get a hint of sweetness. The pho is packed with different succulent pieces of beef and noodles. It also comes with a plate of bean sprouts, basil and lime. As an appetizer I got the beef and shrimp springrolls which were decent but I wish they had a bit more meat. The best part is it's super affordable at 10.50 with taxes for a large size. Ive been coming here once almost once a week since trying it. The service here is good too and the lady on cash always has a smile on her face.

Yelp
We came here for lunch and shared a large pho and vermicelli. Being one of the first people to come in to the restaurant, our server was very nice and attentive. They got quite busy as time passed (lots of delivery/pickup) and walk ins. I appreciated the fish sauce for the vermicelli not being so sweet.

Muriel S.

Yelp
love these soups so much!!! get the number 16 and put lots of sauce in it & the thai basil they give everyone. its so tasty i could cry

Yelp
Without a doubt one of my favourite pho joints in town. Rapid service, no-nonsense menu and an authentic and savoury broth. Very affordable. Go in, enjoy and leave happy. It's simple dining at its best.

Yelp
I'm surprised that this place has such a low rating. I went here for lunch and had the grilled chicken pho and it was delicious. I had the large and my total bill was $10.50 after taxes. The broth was so flavourful as was the chicken. The pieces of chicken were plentiful and very well seasoned. Seating is limited and you walk down a few steps when you come in. When we arrived there was a fair amount of people but we didn't have to wait at all. Overall my experience was good. No complaints. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
If you don't have much time to eat and craving Pho, this is a good place to get a bowl of Pho literally within few minutes after ordering. The broth was full of flavor with different cuts of meat and rice noodles. I quite enjoyed my Pho and was pleasantly surprised how quickly it was served. The service was okay, not friendly but not impolite either. The place could have been cleaner. But then again, a large bowl of Pho will only cost you $9.50, so it's worth to check it out.

Yelp
One of my favorite pho restaurants in Montreal for sure. Been there many times in the last 6-7 years, and it has never deceived me. The place is relatively clean, and in a very good location. It's never too busy either. What I like most is that they give a lot of meat compared to the other pho restaurants. The flavour is just right, not bland and not too salty. The service is just ok. The prices are decent, like any other pho restaurant. The only reason why I'm giving it a 4 is because it's cash only. No credit, no even debit, which is a bit bothersome. But overall, would recommend!
google avatar

Lanyi L.

Yelp
I haven't found many places that make good vermicelli (the dry noodles with fish sauce) but this place is one of those! I came on a Monday late afternoon, early evening and service was prompt. I had the grilled chicken vermicelli. The portions are really large as well. I had a few bites of my friend's pho and it was very flavourful. I'll be back to try other dishes!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Best place downtown to get beef pho ! I also often order the pork and vermicelli when I take out and it's super yummy. The portions are fair and the prices too. The staff is always nice and is bilingual, which is a plus. I would definitely recommend this restaurant !

Yelp
Cheap, small and cold cut service. While not knowing much about Vietnamese food, the food was decently cheap with a decent amount of quantity. I am seeing other fellow yelpers with Asian names point out the taste is wrong for what it is. So it might be so. I would not know, this is the first Vietnamese store I ever went to. Service was rather cold and neutral, not unfriendly or friendly but very quick. It seemed to bother some, but not me. To be honest, while I know those are two extremely different cultures, you have a better selection going at Champ De Mars at a chinatown restaurant. The place looks like a basement that was renovated and separated from a duplex. Pretty dark and quiet (almost depressing) atmosphere.
google avatar

Zihan T.

Yelp
My favourite pho restaurant in downtown. I'm not Vietnamese, my vietnamese friends did not really recommend this one, but I guess they adjusted the flavor somehow to cater to non-natives? The soup is very clear without too much oil and tastes good.
google avatar

Kendall C.

Yelp
Quick service and good prices...the food is authentic, but sometimes lacking flavor. The atmosphere is good and pretty clean on the inside, but a little loud. I had a cold when I came in and the spicy beef pho actually cleared me right up! Spring rolls and grilled chicken pho were also really good, and good for picky eaters as well.

Yelp
When I came to Montreal, it is the first pho restaurant I tried. I hoped that I like it ,because the taste is not too bad, but every time I finish eating in this restaurant, my stomach will be so hurt ,and I will diarrhea! 2stars for the flavor but I'll never back
google avatar

Pechsiree P.

Yelp
Their bun with pork and imperial roll was really good. Coming from California, I honestly did not expect good Vietnamese food in Montreal. However, this place proved me wrong! The price is also reasonable. I also tasted pho's soup that my friend ordered--it was also pretty good. I'll try it next time!
google avatar

Cal E.

Yelp
This is a good spot to eat a Vietnamese soup but there's no enough meat..really rare, my last time I did chose a Tonkinois soup, number 10 in the list...and large one but not enough meat and no tripes. Sorry but I won't come back!
google avatar

Julien L.

Yelp
the service is not good, misunderstood me and refuse to change the order! Too bad!
google avatar

Thai N.

Yelp
Pho is average, nothing special but above all, service is not good. They totally forgot about me and my friend. Many People walked in and got their foods while we still waited for our order. Finally when the waitress walked out and asked to confirm our orders, she read out somebody's order. I was mad and felt like being discriminated.
google avatar

Morgan W.

Yelp
Definitely on my top Pho restaurants in montreal. The service is decent, not unfriendly or friendly, but it was definitely quick. The broth is packed with flavour and the noodles are soft yet chewy. This place is perfect if you are looking for a cheap and delicious meal!

Ana V.

Yelp
Best place! My got to pho place for years! She even remembers my order every time. So fresh!
google avatar

Rafael N.

Yelp
My favourite pho restaurant in Montreal by far (and I've been to a lot of them) No frills place with excellent pho, always packed at lunch at dinner time. My wife and I went there for pho at least once a week for more than 5 years, even after we moved out of the neighbourhood. After a while waitresses (two sisters or cousins I believe) knew I always ordered 11 large! Almost a year after leaving Montreal for the US I still miss it.

Rebecca N.

Yelp
Every time I order take-out, they forget to put in hoisin sauce I specifically ask for, and it makes me wanna drop-kick something. Also, I've got food poisoning from their sprouts. Too bad because the food is delicious!
google avatar

Harrold V.

Yelp
Good Pho, good price, wish they took a credit card because I'm from San Francisco and love the convenience of plastic. Quality of the meat is good and delicious broth.
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
The service was nice, the broth of pho was tasty, but not overpowering, the noodles were generously portioned and cooked to perfection, and the price was more than reasonable. Just remember this place only accept cash (there's an ATM at the Metro across the street if needed!).

Ben S.

Yelp
What a gem. I've worked in Vietnamese spots and have had trouble finding "GOOD" Pho. My girlfriend and I spotted the bright blue neon while walking past last week during the cold -16 of Friday. We showed up 30 mins before close, were served 2 xl bowls and two salads and we're on our way. Very nice broth, can tell they take the time to actually boil the bones first due to it's clearness. Very surprised and will be returning frequently
google avatar

Alan A.

Yelp
Favorite Pho place in Montreal!!! We have tried several others but we keep coming back here for more. Love the beef pho, spicy beef noodles, beef tendon noodles and the viet iced coffee with condensed milk! Almost comparable to those I had in Ho Chin Minh City. The broth is tasty and the noodles are soft yet springy. This place is truly a neighbourhood gem - it always feels homely and there's rarely a big crowd so you know you can count on it for a quick yet satisfying dinner. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
Good for downtown. Small space, mostly students. Sometimes quiet but pretty steady. There are always people in here every time I come. Price is good. I sometimes I order pho to go. I really like the crispy spring rolls but can be oily sometimes.. But this is comfort food for me. Broth is really good. Ice coffee is strong and good too.
google avatar

Fanny L.

Yelp
It is a nice place, but the food it disappointed. Because the soup pho should be a little sweet, but it doesn't and also the soup it not clear. I think it is a little pricey, 5 box for 2 salad roll? Not god

Select T.

Yelp
They have one of my favorite phos in the city - i especially like the use of grilled chicken thigh. Unfortunately, last night I saw cockroaches on the floor and lost my appetite. I will never return
google avatar

Shirley D.

Yelp
Pretty decent pho place. Been here a couple times. Che ba mau (rainbow dessert) is crazy good, I asked the waitress and apparently it's homemade or they make it themselves so it's fresher. They put peanuts on the top and it makes it even more delicious. Any pho dishes are good, I usually order the pho tai, i like my raw meat! Service could be better, some of the waitresses don't look too happy to be there but the food makes up for the mediocre service
google avatar

Shirine T.

Yelp
Little neighborhood gem! Food is great, at affordable prices. Service could use some help.

jason k.

Yelp
Not recommanded, taste bad, no service, very cheap place. Why people lie about the review before? or they never try whats real vietnamese food
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
I came here for a quick take-out lunch last week. It was recommended by a self-acclaimed pho enthusiast I guess you could say. I had obviously consulted Yelp! before venturing over because it's sort of become my thing! I was unsure how take-out would work; would I get a bowl? Would I get everything separately? I got there, and found it was pretty small, but it's a small family-owned shop, so not surprising. Pretty clean and friendly staff. Was greeted immediately and given a menu to look over. Prices are verrry reasonable. 8$ for a large soup is pretty awesome! Took no less than 5 minutes to get my soup and be on my way. It was packaged all separately which I found was convenient; the broth was in a styrofoam container, the noodles and rare beef were in another styrofoam container and the bean sprouts, mint and coriander were in small baggie. On my way back to my office however I was worried as to how I was going to eat my soup. Once back, luck was on my side; I found a large soup bowl perfect for my much anticipated pho. I combined everything, added some hoisin and sriracha and sat down to enjoy my concoction. It's definitely a good bang for your buck. I wouldn't call it the best I've ever had, but it's pretty good and conveniently located (considering I work a block away). I added hoisin and sriracha before trying the broth by itself so I can't say what the broth itself tastes like. But all combined, it's a pretty good mix. I would definitely recommend it and will be back in the near future.

Yelp
Decent pho in the area. Not terribly cheap but ok prices. No complaints, no raves.

Yelp
Food quality was good. Had the goi cuon, fresh and authentic. It was clean and the service was good. Pho was good. tastes it will be good. I'll have to try it again next time I'm in Montreal.

Homera S.

Yelp
Delicious! Great service, the food tasted and appeared to be of high quality. Portions were huge!!! I would highly recommend this spot!

Jordan C.

Yelp
Amazing pho! A little hole in the wall that serves up delicious, warm pho. Can get pretty busy during the week for lunch due to its proximity to Concordia and work places but I can usually find a table for two. I come here a couple times a month and the pho never disappoints. It's also easy on the wallet with prices starting at 7.50 for a small and 9 for an extra large.
