When I’m Sick, All I Want Is a Bowl of Pho | Eater Portland

"Wearing a mask, I ventured to the stalwart Madison South restaurant Pho Oregon for my fix, preferring to eat in so the broth comes straight from the restaurant’s slowly simmering pot rather than reheated delivery. It’s largely unchanged from when it opened in the early aughts and feels like a Vietnamese American diner anchor—neon sign above the front counter, large porcelain vases full of flowers (some real, some fake), lacquered wood art panels, and soft Eighties tunes while diners slurp bowls of bun and pho. When the waiter sets the bowl down I perform my usual “pho facial,” hovering over the steam to inhale warming spices of star anise and cinnamon and admire chopped green onions floating like translucent halos. I dress the soup with the accompanying herbs and bean sprouts but leave the condiments aside to enjoy the broth’s simplicity, and I order plain meatball pho to eat like a child when I’m sick because it mimics the meat–carb–broth comfort of chicken noodle soup. A good pho here stays piping hot until the bottom of the bowl, fogging my glasses, and by the time I finish I finally feel my sinuses have cleared ever so slightly—good soup." - Janey Wong

Nice place. I had the vermicelli noodles with vegetables, grilled pork and spring roll. It was a generous portion overall. The pork and spring roll was ok. It was surprisingly busy for a Tues., parking filled up, but there was lots available on the street.

Unfortunately had to come here and change my review to 3 stars - after our first time there, the amount of meat became less and less. If you pay money for extra meat the portions are still tiny… :( (original comment) Great portions for the price!

Wish I could take this photo restaurant home to Arkansas with me. So delicious, so clean, so many options. I might come every day I’m here this week

A pleasant establishment with great authentic Vietnamese food frequented by people from the Asian continent (which to any non-Asian often means, the food must be good!). We were pleased all together. The atmosphere and decor felt authentic to its roots. The food was delicious, made of fresh ingredients and, best of all, very tasty. My wife tried the Pho (soup) and she was delighted, very hearty. I tried the ribs over rice, yum! Our 6yo tried the combo spring rolls, and loved them. And for dessert we tried the red bean ice; which after having travelled to Taiwan once, I felt was very refreshing and delightful. The waiters were very courteous, attentive and helpful. The prices were well placed, not too high and not too low. Overall, I think this is one of the most authentic and best Vietnamese restaurants in the Beaverton area.

The food was good. The staff were kind and helpful. It seemed overpriced for Pho. Convenient and decent with good people, just for what we had it didn't stand out as special.

Best Pho in Oregon. They do something magical to that broth that gives it special healing powers (same with the fresh young coconut drink). I love the #10 Chín with lean brisket, but they have pho about any way you could want it. The menu is in both Vietnamese and English so it’s easy to know what you are ordering. They have tons of topping options on the table so you can customize your spice level and flavor. The restaurant is extremely clean and the staff is very nice and attentive. Highly recommend eating here all the time.
