Montreal’s Best Restaurants for Gluten-Free Eaters | Eater Montreal

"For those who love noodles but can’t stomach wheat, look to pho. Rice noodles give the satisfying bouncy texture without the gluten. Pho Rachel is particularly noteworthy, as it offers both meaty and vegetarian options, as well as a delicious Vietnamese iced coffee. Available for delivery with SkipTheDishes and UberEats." - Holly Tousignant

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"There’s no hint of MSG in the earthy beef broth from Pho Real, a welcome addition in downtown Montreal. Even better, the homemade meatballs and sliced beef are a cut above what you sometimes find at the least expensive pho shops — no pre-frozen hot pot meat here."

The Best Montreal Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho and More | Eater Montreal

"Good news for vegetarians, Pho Rachel is one of the few pho restaurants in the city offering a completely vegetarian soup (pho broth is typically made with beef bones) and it’s just as good as the omnivorous variety."

The broth of their pho is decent, but the quality and options of ingredients are lacking. No tripe, or tendon, or even meat ball here. The rare beef is cut thick, and since it's low quality, it's relatively chewy. The service was good, but food came slower than expected. The restaurant is small and cramped. It's a good spot if you need to get that pho hit and you're in the area, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this one.

wow our server was so friendly! we came in about 30 minutes before close (i know i know) but he was so happy to serve us. the pho was AMAZING with huge portions - broth was perfectly seasoned, veggies were crisp, and the tofu was very flavourful. excellent price as well.

The young man who served me and my family was very attentive. It made for an all around pleasant experience. We had imperial rolls, chicken soup and the grilled meats plate— all of the food definitely tastes like it’s made with love! If you like spicy food I recommend the papaya salad it was excellent

Google
Nice little restaurant with a handful of vegan and vegetarian options. I started off with some vegé imperial rolls which were tasty and densely packed. For our mains, we got the vegetarian pho (made with veg broth) and tofu crispy noodles. The pho was good and full of tofu and veggies. The crispy noodles itself lacked some flavor but the tofu and veggies were decently flavored. Staff were really nice, good experience overall.

Google
It’s a cute little place! The price is very fair, we paid 13$ for the medium bowl, and 14$ for the large beef pho. Service was also very quick. Taste wise, it’s okay, the broth is a little too salty and the meat was a bit chewy. You can also see in the picture that the green veggies are looking a little sad. The noodles were really nice though, and the portions are good for the price!

I’ve been going to this place for almost 2 years now and they never stopped surprising me with their pho soups. In my humble opinion I can say that it is the best pho soup in Montreal hands down. The service is very good and the music is always there to accompany this unique experience.

Google
Authentic Vietnamese dishes, the pho broths of both chicken and rare beef are delicious. Quite a limited menu, but generously plated. The service is also fast and efficient!

Google
Today my friends and I came to try and appreciate the quality of this place. It was the first time we saw such a neat and attractive bowl of Pho. The young female staff was cute, enthusiastic and quick, I saw her serve many tables and smile when bringing the food. The price is very reasonable - can be said to be cheap compared to other places. We will come back.😋

Yelp
Imperial roll and spicy beef pho were on par. I really enjoyed beef broth flavor but kind of wish there was more beef and noodles that came with it. Somehow I rarely give low stars when I am hungry and food arrives fast. :) all in all - I liked the food; the service was good and prices reasonable.

Yelp
One of the best bowls of pho I have ever had. The ratio of ingredients, broth flavor, and more... everything was fantastic. Service was great. The plants in the restaurant added lots of life.

Yelp
This was only a min walk from our Airbnb so we decided to come here on a Saturday night. When we first got there we realized it was a small restaurant and we had a group of 15 people. We have to separate into 3 groups which was fine. The woman did ask us to wait outside. It was a little chilly that night. I got the beef pho and it was decent. I personally thought the price was higher since it cost about $10 for a medium and usually we can get a large for the price in Toronto. The portion seems a little smaller as well. The broth was good and the beef was good as well. It was thicker and not like thin hot pot beef which was nice. The house made chicken noodle soup was good! The noodles are made in house and it was very bouncy. I also ordered the Vietnamese coffee and it was very sweet. And I believe they are not very consistent with the condense milk because I tried my other friends ice coffee and it wasn't as sweet as mine. The service was good. I definitely recommend this place and if I'm ever back in mtl I would want to go back there to get the chicken noodle soup since they only served this on fridays and Saturday's! They are closed on Sunday !

Yelp
One of the best, if not THE best bowl of pho I ever had. Walking into the place, with Foodora sticker on the door, lady who speaks excellent English & French, Britney Spears playing on the jukebox, and under 10 reviews on Yelp in a neighborhood not particular known for asian food, all I could do was to keep an open mind. Hey don't judge the book by its cover. I got the #12 - Bún bò Hué Soup (Spicy beef broth with beef shank) and flavour-wise it was surprisingly well-balanced - spicy, sweet, rich, with a hint of ginger and coriander. The onion tasted fresh. The meat was abundant. And my favorite part, the homemade spicy chili oil, was out of this world compared to the generic stuff you sometimes find in chinese/vietnamese restaurants. I almost finished the soup heh Impressed. This block (St-Laurent & Rachel) is really happening.

Yelp
The comforting feel of mom's cooking... if my mom could cook Vietnamese. I came here one night because it was the only viet place close to me that was open late. Also, it's relatively cheap. Now, I go each time I visit Montreal. The portions are huge, there's a vegetarian option, and the appetizers are amazing. Writing this is making me want their peanut sauce. Right now. They have friendly staff too! Highly recommended for simple, cheap, quick eats.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from this place. I tried the spring roll, imperial rolls and the bun bo hue. The rolls were pretty good and fresh and the imperial rolls were very crispy. The bun bo hue was slightly spicy and had quite a few slices of beef. The only downside of my orders is that I feel so thirsty after, even after drinking several glasses of water. Otherwise, the food is pretty good.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of eating at Pho Rachel multiple times since July of this year. Their beef pho is delicious, one of my favorites in Montreal. Their spring and imperial rolls are super yummy too. I also love their grilled meat dishes. Pretty busy spot during weekday lunch, otherwise quiet. Very casual restaurant, one of the only authentic Vietnamese restaurants in the Plateau. Yelp
Great soup and fast service :( Nice place, not too noisy. Take a medium size soup, it's already sufficient as a meal :)

Yelp
A great pho place conveniently located in plateau! Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. Ordered the large bun bo hue and it was good enough for 2 meals. It was quite spicy but that was perfect on a cold November day. This was probably the most authentic tasting Vietnamese noodles that I've had in Montreal so far. And finally a pho place that doesn't put broccoli in their soup!! Had the imperial rolls which were good as well. Price was 10-12$ depending on if you ordered medium or large but it's quite worth it. Will be returning for sure.

Yelp
My family and I dropped by for dinner after several meals of Western food. There weren't many options around, but we settled with Pho Rachel after seeing its high reviews. We ordered the pho with beef and the bun bo hue (rice noodle in a spicy beef broth), both of which were mediocre. The broth lacked depth, flavor, and aroma, and the noodles and beef were plain. Price was also higher than the average bowl in Toronto. Service was indifferent. We left feeling unsatisfied and had another meal afterward.

Yelp
Very average restaurant for soup pho. not many choices either. Maybe a place for a random lunch or something. I will not recommend if you are looking for an authentic vietnamese restaurant.

Yelp
Amazing food, delicious, and fresh. We were on our honeymoon in Montreal, this place was top 3, easily.

Yelp
BEST NOODLES I EVER TASTE! I am costumer of Pho-Rachel since long, long time ago. So far, this is the best place ever to eat the amazing Chicken Homemade noodle soup. What makes this place, unbeatable is the Homemade noodles! Before, I was eating twice per week this amazing soup, but since this last summer, it is only available on weekends due to a high volume of people coming only for that. If I have to rate different aspects of the restaurant I will say that Everything is excellent, but those noodles... are from another planet! P.S. Orders to go are very good. Perfect for rainy days!

Yelp
So I love Pho. I guess you could say that I'm a "phonatic" of sorts. I've tried it in many places. Pho Rachel definitely fills the bill. The broth was perfectly seasoned, and definitely not too salty. It's served traditionally, in a large bowl with a side of bean sprouts, basil, and lime. Piping hot and just delicious! The price was great, too.

Yelp
I've tried a few of their soups, and they're always delicious. Service is very nice as well, and prices are decent.

Yelp
Very tasty, fast service - had the grilled chicken with rice noodles. Since I work nearby the fast service is a huge plus. Will be coming back.

Yelp
I love this pho place. I walked past and decided to try it. The beef pho is really delicious and filling too!! If you like spice, they also have strong but tasty spicy sauce. Also, the owner of this place is really sweet and welcoming. I want to come back again when I visit Montreal again next time.

Yelp
Delicious pho!!! I had the grilled chicken and vegetable soup- tasty lean grilled chicken without a bit of fat on it, flavourful broth, lots of crispy veggies. They also have vegetarian pho with vegetable broth, veggies and tofu, which my husband tells me is great. Imperial rolls were crispy and good. Small place, on the expensive side for pho but totally worth it. So few places in the Plateau that do pho and this is the only good one! I got take-out and it came in a nice big container you can use as a soup bowl. I will be going back a lot this winter!
