Awa Noodle Bar - Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"From the chef behind Naruto Ramen, Awa Noodle Bar is a noodle “speakeasy,” hidden behind a small cafe just south of Bryant Park. According to them, their bowls are so rich, they should be paying taxes.” You’ll find around seven kinds of ramen, from $45 wagyu to something called Just Slurp for $14. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Pho Real - Southeast Asian Restaurant

Google
Quite delightful! The beef skewer was very flavorful and the fish sauce was bright, and the vermicelli noodles felt high quality - I think this was my favorite dish I tried. They also accommodated my peanut allergy by removing the peanuts. The pho broth was umami, sweet, and light. The shrimp cakes were extra crispy with how flat they were pressed which added nice texture to the experience. The rice plate I thought was good but not noteworthy this time. The environment was quite quiet and peaceful. FYIs - no dessert options, there's single stall gender neutral bathrooms. What I ordered: shrimp cakes (appetizer), oxtail pho, lemongrass pork chop rice plate, beef skewer vermicelli

Had a fantastic experience at Sawaan Thai with my friends! The food was absolutely delicious, with vibrant flavors that truly captured the essence of Thai cuisine. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome throughout our meal. We appreciated that they didn't rush us, even though we were the last group to leave. Overall, a great place for a relaxed dining experience with amazing food! Highly recommend!

Google
I came here before when they were serving pho and it was really good. This time I visited again and saw that they switched to a Thai menu. Why not give it a try? I actually think it’s even better now. The staff is also very nice. Highly recommend trying it!

Google
Really enjoyed our visit to Pho Real. We had the fried soft-shell crab, a bowl of pho, beef short ribs, and the lemongrass chicken. Everything was super flavorful and the portions were good. The Thai iced tea was also great, not too sweet and that’s a plus for me. The restaurant itself has a lot of character. You can tell that the owner put a lot of thought into the decorations for its space. The glass artwork in front of the bar was super cool. Overall we had a great experience here and will definitely come back.

Everything we had aside from the pho was excellent. So let’s start there: • Fried cauliflower: A clever vegetarian take on “salt and pepper squid.” Perfectly executed with crisp batter, balanced seasoning, and great texture. • Skewers: Beautifully marinated and grilled—super flavorful and absolutely worth ordering. • Vietnamese laksa: Comforting and soothing, with a milder flavor profile than its Malay or Singaporean cousins. Now for the not-so-great: The pho broth was a bit lacking in aromatic depth and leaned too sweet. But the real disappointment was the use of dried rice noodles, which miss the silkiness and tenderness that fresh noodles bring, something that, frankly, should be non-negotiable for any serious pho restaurant. So much of the dish’s shortcomings could have been redeemed with that one choice. I’d definitely come back, but for the other items on the menu.

Google
A stylish, upscale, and elegant design themed Vietnam-Restaurant hidden gem. Flavor of every dish was right on the spot with great plating aesthetic that ensured a memorable dining experience. Very nice value given its location. highly recommend this place We got the soft-shelled crab, beef short rib, pho noodle, and mango-fruit tea. All very nice.

Google
I had such a wonderful experience at this Vietnamese restaurant! The flavors were fresh, vibrant, and authentic. The highlight of my meal was definitely the curry duck — it was rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. The duck was tender and cooked to perfection, and the curry sauce was so flavorful that I wanted to finish every last drop. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for delicious Vietnamese food, especially the curry duck!

Google
Wonderfully large portions and greens to go with it. The soup was not super salty like other places, but was lighter in flavor/aroma than I usually prefer. The service was quick or polite. The interior is designed elegantly and cozy at the same time. Would go again just for that on a fall evening!

Yelp
Thank you, just thank you - Yelp! Pho Real has some for real high ratings - it was around the block from my hotel - so I gravitated to some pho-nominal pho. We ordered the short rib pho and some meat sticks. -insert moment of silence- Yup, the food was that good. It needed no words. Seriously, it came out piping hot. The meat was perfection - soft and flavorful. The rest of the ingredients fulfilled the masterpiece. The meat sticks - wow, Just wow. They were succulent, hot, and they just glided off the stick. They tasted amazing. The staff were very friendly - they checked on us regularly and the food came out pretty quickly. This place is worth the walk / Uber / cab ride. Might sneak over one more time before I fly home for this trip.

Yelp
Pho Real is one of the best spots in the city for comforting, authentic pho. Ambience (4/5): Small and unpretentious, with that cozy neighborhood feel where the focus is clearly on the food. Food (5/5): The pho broth is rich, clear, and deeply flavorful -- not overly salty like some places -- with tender meats and fresh herbs. Value (5/5): Large portions, fair pricing, and consistency make this a go-to for both quick lunches and casual dinners. Service (5/5): Our server, an older lady with a noticeable limp, worked tirelessly to provide attentive, warm service. She checked in multiple times and made sure every table was cared for, which really set the experience apart.

Yelp
Wow! Great location and a nice place to sit with friends and enjoy a meal. The meat eaters in our group were very happy, although one was mistakenly brought pork instead of chicken (they took it back and replaced it). I was shocked by the vegetarian laksa, I've never seen one so white. It was truly milder than tom kha gai. If I go back and order it again I'll ask them to add some chili paste... Most of the staff were great but one was a bit intensely in our faces, trying to get us to eat more, joking around, making personal remarks. I guess we could have asked her to leave us alone. It felt borderline entertaining and uncomfortable. Clean restroom, good prices.

Yelp
The restaurant looks nice and clean. We were 3 people and were seated in a very spacious table (it was 1:30pm on a Saturday). I immediately noticed that the restaurant was very quiet and that no music was playing. There were many people eating alone. Service was very attentive and I did not have to ask for a water refill. The food itself was good, I especially enjoyed the shrimp pancakes. I do think that the oxtail in the oxtail pho was lacking. It was not meaty and it was hard to chew. But the noodles and the broth were good. For the vermicelli, we asked for extra sauce and they were accommodated kindly. Portions were sizeable, though I did think that the sauce that comes with the vermicelli is very little compared to the amount of noodles and greens it comes with. I recommend!

Yelp
Efficient, friendly service. Beautiful setting, furnishings are modern and clean. Excellent soundproofing. When the door is closed it's a wonderful oasis, dark and calm. They lose a bit of the aura when the staff are hustling about and walking a dolly right thru the dining room though. They're still new but I think their lack of menus or prices from the outside is not great and might be intentional. I'd have liked to see menu and pricing before sitting down but the curious Yelper in me took a leap of faith. But I had already read reviews and peaked inside so I had an idea that it'll be on the higher end for Viet. On to the food. Had to get the classic special pho with rare beef, brisket, tripe and tendon. Tripe and tendon, I'm just happy they have it. The rare beef is fine, good quality and decent portion. The brisket is trimmed, without huge chunks of fat. This is appreciated. Noodles are fine, not too soft or firm. The broth is light and clear, sweet and enough flavor but doesn't cross the line into overly salty. It's not rich though but then again they never claimed it would be. Solid but underwhelming perhaps. Ultimately, the experience is fine. I get what they're going for with the decor and ambience. It'll be a good sit-down place but it's pricey for lunch. The value proposition is also poor if you're doing takeout, as you're paying elevated prices but not really enjoying the ambience. I'll be back to see if quality comes thru to match the prices for other dishes but they'll have a high bar to clear.

Yelp
Nice clean place. Service was fast and good. Enjoyed my meal. Having a slightly cheaper lunch menu would have been nice.

Yelp
A new pho shop that opened in the area. This restaurant is more upscale and they sell more than just pho, although I didn't pay attention to the rest of the menu. I got take out and the Pho Dan Bi ($21) came out in less than 5 minutes. Overall this was delicious as the broth isn't overly oily or salty. Good amount of ingredients and I didn't struggle loosening up the noodles, which usually is an issue getting pho to go. Will have to come back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Pho Real is an elegantly decorated restaurant with a warm ambience perfect for smaller groups. It also has pho broth that is a clear and obvious step up from the salty broth of Pho 39 across the street. Everything else is a mixed bag. Service was good but quite awkward at times, while the pho itself had minor issues. Namely, my noodles were slightly undercooked, the peppers were cut a bit too thick, and the broth was slightly too lukewarm to effectively cook the bean sprouts. But the portions are large, the soup and meat are very good, and the overall quality is quite good. If the kinks are worked out this place will become quite good.

Yelp
5 of us went today to celebrate a birthday and we're not disappointed. The secret to great pho is in the broth. I especially appreciated that the noodles were not overcooked. They were generous with the vegetables. We also ordered spring rolls and chicken wings, which were all excellent. We have one member of the party who is gluten intolerant and he was fine after the pho and spring rolls (made with rice paper sheets). The Vietnamese iced coffee and Thai iced were strong, as they should be. The ambience was quiet and dark, and felt more like a dining experience. Overall, very happy with this place and would come again.

Yelp
Highly recommend Pho Real! From the start the interior decor is elegant, comfortable dim lit dark and cozy. Our server was attentive and caring, went out of her way to give us extra options when we asked for more sauces. The beef pho was HUGE, piping hot and delicious in my face hole. I wish I could eat lunch here everyday. Spring rolls are also fresh and amazing. Go here and support this new business!

Yelp
If I could give it 10 stars, I would. The ambiance was amazing, it was lovely and clean, and the portions of food were huge and delicious for a great price. We got some summer rolls, combination beef pho, and Vietnamese stir fried rice noodles. The summer rolls were just fresh and cold and amazing for a hot summer day. Service was also quick and they were very kind

Yelp
Authentic, Artistic and Tasteful - A Midtown Gem! The newly discovered Pho Real is one of my favorite restaurants in Midtown. The service is amazing! The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and colorful --perfect whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down with friends. A space where art meets appetite. You can feel the artist's soul in every corner--warm light, thoughtful textures. The food feeds your body, the design feeds your spirit.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant! The decor and food were both amazing and the servers were nice and helpful. We all tried the beef pho (huge portions!), summer rolls, and the calamari. All were excellent. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had a terrific lunch at Pho Real. Great location and environment. The beef pho was flavorful with good portion size. The service was incredible and friendly. When we return to the city, we will be back.

Yelp
Great food and great service! This newly soft-opened restaurant already impresses with its delicious South Asian fusion dishes and inviting atmosphere. The papaya salad is a crisp, refreshing delight, while the shaking beef delivers tender, flavorful perfection. The Pho Dac Biet stands out with its crystal-clear yet deeply aromatic broth and generous portions of tender meats. Since it's still in the soft-opening phase, I'd love to see more vegetable-forward dishes and traditional beverages added to the menu. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Extraordinary! Great service, great flat noodles and dumplings, in a pleasant, low-key setting that doesn't feel like a tourist trap.

Yelp
We went to this new Pho/Asian fusion, restaurant today for lunch. Beautiful decor of the restaurant. service is super friendly and pleasant. We have tried some of their signature dishes, totally amazing. They also have second floor that would be great to have intimate gathering. Definitely would return again soon.
