Health Department shuts down Las Famosas de Jose and Pho MaiLan with cockroach infestations | Eater Vegas

"Received a 40-demerit C grade on June 24 after inspectors found shelves lined with soiled foil, dirty cooking utensils and equipment, dirty floors, and uncovered sauces, soups, and cooked chicken in the fridge. The owner attributed many violations to a language barrier and cultural differences and said staff labeling of expiration dates did not conform to SNHD standards, which made some food appear expired when it was not; the restaurant later earned a zero-demerit A grade on July 2." - Susan Stapleton

Google
Hands down the best pho in Vegas!! The broth is delicious. It’s definitely *not* sweet like many other Southern style pho restaurants’. The portion is large and comes with a decent amount of meat. Spring rolls and che ba mau are tasty, too! The food quality is very consistent every time we visit. The staff is attentive and the service is always great!

Google
Food quality is great. Better Vietnamese ingredients than most around this area. Clean and newer place. Prices are on the higher end but their portions are huge. The greens are fresh. Service is attentive and friendly.

It was our first time here. We wanted to try different pho places other than our usually spots. I got the bun bo hue noodle soup and my partner got the rib eye pho. We wished they served a little more meat in our soups. We also got egg rolls, which was good. My partner, did not enjoy his pho, thought it was bland. Bun Bo Hue wasn't too bad, but wasn't great either. Overall, food was good.

Google
Food was good. It was pretty slow for a Friday night. Nice location with lots of parking. Staff was good but just needs to be a lil bit more attentive especially if there's only 2 parties in the restaurant so it's not like it was busy or anything. Good portions for the price. Overall had a good time. Will be back again.

1. The waiter always talks to you with a smile. 2. The waiting time will not be long. 3. Every dish tastes good. 4. Parking at the door is very convenient.

Hidden on Rainbow Boulevard of Las Vegas, Pho Saigon 8 is an extraordinary culinary gem boasting the city's finest Vietnamese cuisine. This overdue review serves as both a tribute and an open invitation for those who have yet to discover this esteemed establishment's gastronomic wonders. Central to Pho Saigon 8's culinary excellence is their Pho- a labor of love simmered for hours to achieve perfection, filling the air with its irresistible aroma and tempting diners to savor its rich flavors. Each spoonful of the broth is a culinary journey in and of itself, enhanced by tender slices of beef, chicken, or any protein of your choice. Fresh rice noodles, herbs, and bean sprouts are served alongside the soup, elevating a simple bowl of Pho into a transcendental culinary experience- a true testament to the mastery and dedication of the chefs. As a passionate connoisseur of Vietnamese cuisine, I started my culinary adventure with the Nem Nuong Ninh Hoa or Grilled Pork Sausage Rolls. These delectable rolls were a revelation, surpassing my expectations with their tender, juicy texture and flavorful taste. While not the traditional version, the grilled pork sausage rolls at Pho Saigon 8 are a must-try, and they left an indelible impression on my taste buds. For the main course, I indulged in the Pho Tai Nam Gau Sach Bo Vien- a combination of Pho that showcased the depth and complexity of Vietnamese culinary traditions. With rare ribeye, flank, brisket, beef ball, and tripe adorning the velvety noodles, every spoonful offered a mouthwatering array of textures and flavors- a true culinary masterpiece that left me craving more. It is not only the exceptional cuisine that sets Pho Saigon 8 apart; the restaurant's interior is also a feast for the eyes. From the warm and inviting decor to the enchanting ambiance that greets diners upon arrival, every aspect of the restaurant exudes elegance and sophistication. The ambiance reflects Vietnam's rich culture and heritage, enhancing the dining experience. In conclusion, Pho Saigon 8 is more than just a restaurant; it is a culinary sanctuary that celebrates Vietnamese culinary heritage, where tradition meets innovation, and every dish tells a story. As a Vietnamese individual, I am proud to share the wonders of this remarkable establishment with others, as it is a culinary journey that transcends borders and captivates hearts. Therefore, to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience, I extend an invitation to Pho Saigon 8- a place where every meal is a feast for the palate and a celebration of Vietnamese flavors and traditions.

Google
Saigon 8 has always been the best Vietnamese place in Vegas since I moved here 9 years ago. And super affordable! My recommendations after going 20+ times: The rice vermicelli bowl with grilled pork is so phenomenal I looked up how to cook it at home (#65, or #69 if you want egg rolls also). Don't forget to drench it in the sauce though (a small bowl with fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, etc)! The cubed steak with rice (#59) is very saucy and delicious as well if you want a more meat-heavy dish. My husband loves their fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce, and they are ALWAYS fresh and full, not stale or skinny. We used to always order the rare steak pho which is also excellent, but the other options have won us over. They've actually put at least three of our favorites on their menu cover, so if you're interested in what's well liked, check out the cover of the menu. This location has vietnamese coffee (Yum!), but I don't think they have the strawberry shake I used to get at the Spring Mountain location. I've tried the location by South Pointe too and that was excellent as well!

Yelp
On a Saturday morning, we had the craving for Pho. Luckily, we happened to be in the area and came across this place. Right off of 215 and Rainbow, we found the place easily and parking was easy, too. The place had a nice ambience, colorful with decorative lighting. We were seated immediately, as it was not a high traffic time. We got there before the lunch rush. We were served water immediately after given menus. I'd say it was nice to have small stainless steel cups and 2 stainless steel carafes of water to help ourselves. Our order was taken right away and service was kind. We were given a generous plate of the side veggies for pho, one of the most important things about pho! I ordered #13 Pho Tai Nam to share with my daughter and it was plenty. Jalapenos are put on the plate of veggies so that one can control their own level of heat. Overall, I was very pleased with this spot. The pho broth was delicious and I could undoubtedly come back here again!

Yelp
Quick service and really fun and hip environment. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the music being played in background. It was not only fun, but the Pho was very tasty. They had great tasting broth and quality ingredients. We tried the Ribeye Pho and they gave a nice portion of meat. Definitely a must try for Pho if in the area!

Yelp
We came here twice before they closed. The first time the pho was amazing second time we came here we were very disappointed.

Yelp
I was recently in the mood for Pho and after much Yelp research, I landed on trying Pho Saigon 8. This spot is located in a strip mall near the 215 and Rainbow, so it's very easily accessible. We dined on a Thursday afternoon, so it wasn't super busy but there were a few other tables of people. Which is a bit of blessing as the dining area is somewhat smaller. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and seated. Our server remained very attentive our entire visit and ensured we were happy. We opted for a fresh roll appetizer, pho ga and a chicken dish (drawing a blank on the name). The fresh roll was delicious and although I wasn't a fan of the dipping sauce, my fiance enjoyed it. We both really enjoyed our entrees. My fiance thought his chicken was packed with flavor and our server brought us some spicy additions so we could choose our own adventure, which was nice. The Pho Ga was probably one of the best I've had. The broth was so rich but clear, I could have just had a cup of that alone. The chicken was cooked perfectly and while I would have preferred smaller pieces to make it easier to eat, it was still manageable. You can tell they put a lot of care and attention into their food, which is probably why they've been able to open multiple locations. If you are looking for delicious pho, you have to check this spot out!

Yelp
Earlier today, we had our first visit to this location of Pho Saigon 8 and I left happy, impressed, and already talking of a return visit! (+) It's a quaint little place located on the east side of Rainbow Blvd., just a little south of the 215. They have fun decor about the place (someone here is a beer lover! lol) and it had a warm, cozy feel to it. (+) Service was very prompt and friendly. We were quickly seated just after walking through the door. Our server was very friendly and on top of things from the get-go. (+++) If this review was for the food alone, it would be a slam dunk 5 star review! I enjoyed a hearty bowl of Pho with ribeye today. Wow! That Pho was outstanding! The Pho had generous portions of tasty ribeye with a plenty of noodles too! The real star of the show here, IMO, is that broth! This was definitely the most flavorful broth I've had in a long time! We are already talking about coming back next week to try other menu items! The only, and I do mean the ONLY reason, why I can't give Pho Saigon 8 5 stars is that seating situation. More specifically, the seats and booths are wooden and metal and so uncomfortable to sit on. Still, this was a fantastic experience, and we will certainly be back! 4.5 stars.

Yelp
Everything says you are open. Even got a text message that said our order would be ready at 142 am and payment was taken. Get to your venue and its closed. Please turn off your website and yelp because it still allows to order after hours.

Yelp
Not sure if this is under new management because customer service was quick and attentive. This place use to be a seafood boil restaurant and now their back. Ordered the pho noodles soup with tendon and rare steak and also the cold vermicelli noodles with pork and eggroll. So good! Check them out. Place is clean !! Happy eats!!
google avatar

Vincent G.

Yelp
Used to eat here all the time before it was a crab boil. Glad to see it is back. Place is clean and service is fast. Spicy beef soup with the thick vermicelli is my personal favorite on days when it starts cooling down in vegas and my allergies start to act up. With so many other options, I still drive across town to eat here.

Yelp
First timer and some of the best pho I ever had. Spring roll appetizer was so tasty and the pho was packed with meat and noodles and flavorful broth! Service was excellent and food came out so quick! after working a 12 hour shift, this was the perfect spot for me !
google avatar

Char D.

Yelp
Ordered the crispy rolls for an appetizer and one veggie/tofu pho and a steak pho. Best thing was the crispy rolls. Very disappointed with the pho. I received my veggie tofu pho and when tasting the broth...literally was like hot water with a slight hint of vegetables. I added sriracha and hoisin sauce to add more flavor but it just wasn't very good. Then it just tasted like watered down flavored sauces... The beef pho broth tasted very raw meaty like... idk tonight's dinner was very mediocre.. And all the broccoli in the pho was old with brown mushy mold in all of them, very unappetizing. Not worth it and tonight's dinner was $50 +....very sad.

Yelp
Been trying every Vietnamese place in my neighborhood and found pho Saigon 8. I got a pho ribeye. The soup was decently flavorful and the meat was plentiful. But the the ribeye was on the tough side and it was very cooked when it got to me. The one rare bits were the parts above the soup. Overall a good experience, but prices everywhere are definitely high now the normal size of bowl of pho plus tip and tax is ~$21.
google avatar

Stela T.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch. We had fresh spring rolls and noodles with rare ribeye and tendon. It's really good. The noodles soup is good for two people if you're not a big eater. Otherwise perfect for one hungry man. Service is very good. You feel at home. The place is clean and cozy. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Disgusting and disappointing. Ordered 4 items togo. One of them was noodle with wontons. Someone decided to just put completely uncooked wonton on top of a bed of cooked rice noodle in the styrofoam and bag it. Are you serious??? I'm glad I didn't give this to my kid, who would probably start munching on these disgustingly raw shrimp wonton unsuspiciously. 2 stars because other food were good.
google avatar

Rod H.

Yelp
The food was fresh and service was fast. Tried the Bun grilled pork meatballs, and the Com Thil grilled pork rice plate. Both were delicious. They both came with a sweet fish and vinegar dipping sauce, which is perfect for these dishes. Will return for more. A week later.... Today we tried the Pho with tripe and Grilled Bun. Both delish and fresh, will be returning.
google avatar

Benjamin S.

Yelp
This is a good pho spot to fill your craving. The pho soups are delicious and flavorful. The eggroll is crispy and goes well with the lettuce and pickled cabbage. The vermicelli shrimp was clean and pork was very tasty. Clean and good service. Will be back!
google avatar

Veloca C.

Yelp
I have to say they are very generous w the food portions. We have canh chua cá kho tộ and phở tái bò viên. My daughter is a picky eater, but she finished her bowl of Pho today. For the service they have new manager, they are the best Vietnamese servers I have ever encountered around the valley!
google avatar

The T.

Yelp
Bun Bo Hue, all the way. Absolutely the best I have tried in Vegas. Most Viet restaurants don't even try to make this dish due to its complexity. Similar to Thai restaurants not making Khoa Soi. Forget Pho. Try this amazing pork/beef noodle dish. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Alan G.

Yelp
Pho here is always consistent. Not amazing, but not bad either - middle of the road. I was disappointed that their beef stew is different from the stew at the Saigon 8 location up north by Centennial. This stew was not as good and wouldn't recommend it. Quick service every time. Clean restaurant.
google avatar

Wendoline B.

Yelp
We got the #16 and #18 and it was great. The broth was super flavorful and the bowl kept it warm through our meal, which was nice. The egg rolls didn't taste fresh, but they were good non the less.

Sofia D.

Yelp
Best pho I've had in a while, the food and service is a-mazing! I found my new favorite spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Pho place located in southwest at Rainbow and 215 exit! I ordered #69, which is a vermicelli bowl. It contained vermicelli, lettuce, peanuts, juicy marinated pork, two egg rolls, and other veggies. It was delicious and very tasty! My friends ordered Pho and they had no regrets. The aroma was enticing that I had to have some of their soup. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to our party. They ensured we had everything that we needed! The decorations were cute and the ambiance felt cozy. It wasn't too loud or too quiet either. They have plenty of seating areas for bigger parties!
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
Pho was okay, staff was prompt and nice. To start, we stepped in on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered 2 steak ribeye pho. Although the steak was good. The pho itself was very fatty and greasy. I haven't had pho this greasy as you can see in the photos. The broth was okay but it was just too greasy for me. I know pho broths are mainly made from beef stock and some take out/leave the fat secreted from the broth.... This was just a 1st timer for me to get it this greasy. Either way, it wasn't for me. I could see others enjoying this although. It may have just been preference of mine to be on the leaner side. Otherwise, ambiance of the place was nice, staff was friendly and fast and I still enjoyed my visit. I would probably come back and give this place another shot and try other viet dishes.
google avatar

May S.

Yelp
Tried calling twice to do a phone order, sent to voicemail. So I figured maybe they're just too busy. So I ordered online/thru yelp instead. I got the confirmation email and food will be ready in 15 mins. My fiancé went to pick it up. Restaurant's close because of some AC issues. Hopefully next time, they should update their voicemail to inform customers about the issue. It's definitely a hassle to call "Grubhub" (for reimbursement) because their online orders comes thru them for reimbursement.

Yelp
Food is beyond excellent, my gawd the broth of the pho is perfection. Staff is courteous and fast on their toes. The ambiance is quaint and accessible for one and all. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10pm. The chicken, grilled with rice is juicy and flavorful

Yelp
Service was spectacular Food was flavorful, fresh and delicious 10 out of 10 recommend

Yelp
Ordered the Grilled chicken with eggroll rice plate. It was so delicious. Just the right amount of food and it came with soup which was also really good. The sauce that they have is so good. Didn't really expect much but I was pleasantly surprised at the taste. The staff was really friendly and the food came promptly. The place itself is not super big but has decent enough space and is clean. I'd recommend this Vietnamese restaurant if you're around the area. Prices are a little high but not terrible.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
There are three vegan options on the menu, which were not obvious until we asked. We had them all: the Goi Cuon Chay (Veggie Spring Rolls), Bun Dau Hu (Sautéed Tofu with Rice Vermicelli), Pho Rau (Noodles with Vegetable & Tofu). It was plenty of food, so we took the rest home for leftovers. I'm happy that the food was cooked with a minimal amount of oil and sodium, with no MSG. Pricing was reasonable. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was casual.
google avatar

Yelp
I came by yesterday it was a perfect day for pho. I ordered the Pho Tom and I was pleased it was a nice portion and their chili paste was flavorful and spicy. I definitely will be returning. Service was fast and great, I don't remember my waiters name but he was very informative. Ambience is very inviting and cozy.
google avatar

Yelp
My pho was nice and hot! The broth was very delicious and did not disappoint. I went during lunch time so I was pretty much in and out as quick as possible.

Yelp
Best pho Saigon 8 overall. There's one by my house but I never stay satisfied as I do with this one on Rainbow. Love it here! Favorite pho so far
google avatar

Arline G.

Yelp
Loved loved the pho here. I'm so happy they had a chicken option for those who don't eat red meat (they also have a veggie option)!! So good on a cold day. The veggie spring rolls with their peanut sauce was so delicious as well. Service was fast and ambiance was nice as well. Nicely decorated and welcoming :) will definitely be back!
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
My first time here and the customer service was good, very welcoming. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue and it was ok. The broth was not even spicy. I wanted more spicier. The meat are wasn't bad at all, just need more spice. The pork leg was tender and good. I expected the blood cubes, but it wasn't there. That's ok though. I'll try it again.
google avatar

Sherwin N.

Yelp
Good for adults and kids, very clean, and friendly service with a smile. Food came out fast and was on point. Best in Vegas!

Chelsey B.

Yelp
Lester and Lam hands down are the best!! Best customer service! From the Silverado location to Rainbow location. They were the reason why we were loyal customers. It's unfortunate that they no longer work at any of these locations. Food isn't the best now either. Today, we did a delivery and called to specifically ask to get an ingredient removed... but the person on the phone super rude, doesn't know how to customer service. I don't care that you're busy and I don't understand how you don't have any knowledge of your menu?? Really bad customer service! He mentioned that he couldn't do anything cause he don't know the name for the order so I replied why don't you ask? I can give you the name on the order. Like really? Maybe staff need a bit more training.
google avatar

Yelp
We moved here from San Jose, so we've been on the quest for the best Vietnamese restaurant. We came here since they had pho ap chao on the menu, but they ended up not being able to make it. Pho nam gau bo vien - the broth was super salty and the noodles were hard and broken. You can tell they use dry noodles and not fresh noodles. The nam meat was dry, but the gau and bo vien were delicious. Hieu tieu dai my tho kho- wow! Best hieu tieu dai I've ever had. Their noodles were so well made and chewy. Great balance of flavors and all quality seafood and meats. Even the quail eggs were fresh and not canned! 3 stars for the pho, 5 for the hieu tieu, so rounding out to 4 stars.
google avatar

Kimberly K.

Yelp
My go to spot. First time at this location. Fast and fresh veggies. Quite a lot of veggies, which I love. Got so much bean sprouts and jalapenos. I wanted to get more jalapenos anyways but forgot to ask. Ate all of it. Kind of a small batch of Thai basil but was enough with 2 fresh and juicy limes. I liked it better than the other locations where the veggies weren't as fresh in the past. The place was busy but efficient and clean. Definitely would like to come back to this location vs the one down the street from me.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and service. Prices are reasonable and food quality stays consistent super fast service cannot ask for more.

Yelp
I been to many Pho restaurants here in Vegas, but I gotta say, Saigon 8 is one of the best. Their broth is truly one of the best, is so much flavor in it. Walked in, first impression. Unlike others Pho restaurant They painted the wall, like you by the beach. I also like some of the plants they decorated by the kitchen window. Of course the Pho, truly amazing

Yelp
I love this place .. all their food is good and they all are polite inside .. very attentive with the customer service .. 10 out of 10 recommend

Yelp
Pho Saigon 8 is the go to place when we're wanting good wholesome pho. We haven't been disappointed by the quality and freshness of their dishes yet. The menu has a wide variety of dishes that will satisfy one and all (unless you're not into Vietnamese cuisine). The location at Rainbow is a bit taxing to get your n an out, but with careful planning it negotiable. The staff is friendly and does their best to make even the most novice of diners understand the menu. If there was a down side, which in minute, is how their rewards program works. But nonetheless, it's not a deal breaker.

Yelp
One of my favorite Vietnamese places in town!! The pho broth is so flavorful. The food quality and quantity is just right. It could be slightly cheaper, but I understand inflation as well. They don't skimp out on the Togo orders and the pho veggies. Service is great! It's a newly remodeled place with TVs. Great vibe, great place!!

Maria Luisa B.

Yelp
Almost $18 for a plate that doesn't even cover the bottom of the container. What happened?! Ordered through door dash.

Yelp
My family and I ordered #21 and #25. The broth was delicious. They gave large portions of meat and noodles. We will definitely return! Support Las Vegas business!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't like this restaurant charge me 15% tips for order to go. I and my husband went there and we had 2 bowl noodles and later order another noodle to go for other people and ask for separate receipt but they didn't separate the receipt and also charged me15% tips for to go food. I don't like the service, will not go again. They treated customers terrible.
google avatar

Jazzmine B.

Yelp
I used to frequent the location on Spring Mountain several years ago, but this was my first time here. I stopped by on a weekend around noon, and there were only 2 others inside. The place started to fill up closer to 1pm. I ordered the fried eggrolls to start. They were good, but I did wish it came with more lettuce. I had the bun bo hue instead of my usual pho for my entrée. Sadly, the veggies they gave me was for pho (rather than the usual shredded cabbage). The soup size is large and had plenty of noodles and meat, but I found the broth to be bland. The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly but I left feeling a bit disappointed.

Yelp
Let me tell you how ecstatic i am that this location re-opened and is under new management! This is mine and my husband's go to pho place in the whole Las Vegas area! It's family owned and they served such delicious food! I wouldn't go anywhere else but Pho Saigon 8! Since the new management, the place seemed to be a lot brighter, friendlier and more inviting. The staff are great, attentive and welcoming! We always order the Pho tai, Lemongrass beef with rice, Fresh Spring rolls, Banh Xeo and of course the ice coffee! We spend a lot because we believe it's worth it! If you're looking for a delicious pho restaurant, I highly recommend this place. Try the other locations also if it's closer to you!
