Spring 2022 Guide to Greater Boston Restaurant Openings | Eater Boston

"A Vietnamese restaurant emphasizing authentic ingredients sourced from abroad and the U.S. (such as dragon leaves from Vietnam and smoked veal from Texas), offering traditional pho, stir-fries, rice plates, vermicelli bowls, and a beverage program with beer, milk tea, and cocktails." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
The pho here is by far the best in the area. They are also very generous with their portions and the condiments - Thai basil, chili peppers, bean sprouts, lime and so on. So good and a huge selection of other delicious items to choose from if pho isn’t your thing. Highly recommend.

Google
Great restaurant! Very traditional Vietnamese restaurant food and no nonsense service! I'll be back!

Google
It had a cute ambiance with 90s vibe and our server was excellent. She was also funny and kind. I was not expecting any kind of good meal and was surprised. There were items on the menu I don't see often, especially in the Northeast, and wish I was with a large enough group to order all of them. -- Goi cuon chay was very thick and I was excited to eat it. The peanut sauce was slightly weak but having all the correct sauces at the table meant that wasn't a problem. I was very happy my friend wasn't hungry enough to eat more of this one. In the pho, broth was standard but great. Usually when I go out for pho I don't need much more than a sampler bowl from someone willing to share, but I cried a little inside when I finished my bowl, despite my friend put heaping amounts of beef in it. Beef was very tender and the cuts were gorgeous; not only quality-wise, but the skill of reducing protein fibers to toothpick out of the teeth.. 👌🏻 (TL;DR many restaurants roughly cut meat but the pieces for this were carefully butchered) Bun thit cha gio - the grilled pork could have been more flavorful for me but overall I loved this bowl. The prawns were some of the best I've had in years that both me and my friend were either getting the juices from the skin or eating it altogether. The balance of veggies to protein to noodles was enjoyable. I took the rest of this home to have for brunch the next morning and it fared quite well. We were quietly nibbling throughout the meal with little sounds of happy noms. Successful trip. Excited to come back next time!

Google
I give this place 4 stars 4 stars for ambiance since the restaurant has good amount of space, well lit. 4 stars for service where they seat you right away. They also give hints of which menu selections were slightly better than others. 4 stars for food variety/menu selection and authenticity in taste; the only reasons why I didn’t give 5 stars: - ca phe sua da (iced Vietnamese coffee) wasn’t served suggesting way with coffee dripping while you wait and you don’t see the condensed milk. It was pre-mixed more like how you get it at boba places! - the caramel fish dish wasn’t caramelized enough, it didn’t have the deep sweet taste as if it was cooked in a clay pot for hours - the bun bo hue had slices of meat mixed in as if they used the same ingredients for beef pho and just added the bun bo hue broth instead of pho broth. But in the end I finally saw the pig feet/hock part. I saw another customer order the shrimp grilled on sugar cane served with rice paper which you wet in a bowl of water to soften and wrap the shrimp with veggies. That’s what I will order next time! I am just slightly disappointed they don’t serve banh xeo!!!

Google
The restaurant is located right on the main street in Quincy, though parking can be a bit tricky if the lot next door is full. The menu is diverse, and the space is large and comfortable. Portions are big and generous. Service is quick, Prices are reasonable. The platter rolls was tasty and well-filled, the bún riêu was flavorful, and the phở was decent. They also have a private room available for parties or group gatherings, it’s quite spacious and can probably fit over 20 people.

Google
I ordered takeout today 5/18/25. Fresh spring rolls is missing dipping sauce. Spring rolls doesn't taste the same without dipping sauce. Vermicelli with shrimp and eggs rolls looks pretty sad. One tiny shrimp and small shrimp ball. Not sure if I want to pay $17 next time for this dish. I wouldn't order this dish from Pho 1 next time. Better to order somewhere else.

Google
I am a huge Pho fan, have tried many Pho places in NYC and The Greater Boston area. In my opinion, Pho So 1 ranked # 1 of all the Pho I have tried. The broth is rich, can taste a bit salty at first; it balances out when you mix in the herbs and lime. For #14, Pho Dac Biet the XL bowl, they give A LOT of meat! Get the XL bowl if you LOVE Pho <3 I will definitely come back and maybe settle in Quincy, MA for the beautiful beach and this Pho place!

Google
one of my favorite Pho spots! Love that they have short rib pho, that’s my go to. Although during the summer they would take forever to bring me the bill.. I’d wait longer for the bill than I waited for my meal and my eat time, but obviously I keep coming back because I do in fact love it here.

Yelp
This is a Letter of Commendation for Pho So 1 in re: dining solo with a toddler. They sat us by the wall so I could sit right next to my kiddo on the cushioned bench. I asked for a small bowl to share my pho with the kiddo, and my server brought me a PLASTIC bowl! AND a little pair of scissors to cut the food up! Highly appreciate these little touches to make my dining out experience a little easier. The food came out so quick, so there was minimal waiting around trying to entertain a hungry toddler. He loved the cha gio, his favorite handheld food. They looked a little small, but I have no comments on the taste since he didn't share. The pho is solid, it came out piping hot and the broth had a good depth to it. The service was friendly and fast, and the only waiting we had to do was for the check at the end of our meal - but there's also no shame here in walking up to the counter to pay your bill. We would come back if we're looking to dine around Quincy - feel confident dining out with your toddler here!

Yelp
The food was good, no complaints. Better than other Vietnamese restaurants in Quincy. The biggest complaint was about the services. It was Father's Day, and our services were REAL REAL SLOW. Other than that the food was excellent.
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Love their rice plate here! Although it's a little expensive, the quality of food is what you're paying. The pork chop is well marinated. It's grilled perfectly with that char on the outside and still cooked well enough that it's not too tough or dry. The fried tofu is really good. Still not as good as the old Anh Hong in Dorchester. Sure do miss that place. My wife ordered the hu tieu nam vang. She didn't care for it much and said I made it better haha I tried the broth and it was too... light and bland. We had to add more fish sauce. The ingredients were there but I didn't like how the celery was minced up. It tastes way better if it was one inch celery's. Overall, I would come if I'm around Quincy.

Yelp
Nice addition to Quincy. The service is alright when I've been here. Could use more checking in on for refill of water pitchers etc when in a larger party. Overall clean space, food comes out fairly quick and i enjoyed my meal each time. I usually go for the rice plate, grilled pork with fried tofu + shrimp filling. Consistent food and good dau hu ky. Will be back again!

Daniel S.

Yelp
The service was great! We were seated immediately upon coming in. The waitress was very quick with our order and got the food out quickly. The food was delicious and tasted fresh and quality ingredients. The restaurant itself had a modern and clean look with plenty of natural light to fill it. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Anny S.

Yelp
Didn't to come here because I was told they are known for their beef rib pho that fall off the bone clay pot. Presentation is pretty nice and the restaurant is clean to eat at. Broth was alright, difficult to eat out of the clay pot when you need to mix everything together so I would advise to take out the beef bone, cut it up on a side dish, and then eat it with the pho when you want to enjoy it after putting in the noodles and slice meat into the clay pot. I would rate it 5/10 I could do without next time. Maybe the reg pho taste better. The vermicelli dish was good, I enjoyed the fried tofu skin, I haven't had it like that before. Would I come back here for this again; prob if I am craving it but it wouldn't be my first choice to eat here.

Yelp
LOCATION: Small lot for parking and street parking. The space itself is huge! It can fit large groups and there's a separate room for private parties. MENU: Lots of classic Vietnamese dishes and drinks. The menu is quite extensive! FOOD: Pho is solid but their bun rieu is pretty good and highly recommended. SERVICE: Friendly and quick!
google avatar

Lizzie Y.

Yelp
Pho So 1 is a great addition to Quincy! Super large space, clean, and has a modern interior. They have big tables that are great for family gatherings for lunch or dinner. Also have booth seats and regular four person tables available. I enjoy their Bun Rieu and vermicelli bowls. Their bun rieu has great flavor and portion sizes here are generous. I do like their other location better, in Randolph, but this location is a lot more convenient for me. They have a parking lot available and plenty of street parking on Hancock St & School St.
google avatar

Joie T.

Yelp
I usually love pho places but the food has been a let down. Pho bo kho noodles were overcooked and the broth was so oily. Regular pho is just ok. Bun bo hue didn't stand out in flavor.
google avatar

Kelly Z.

Yelp
Honestly one of the best pho I had. Service is fast and the pho comes hot and steamy! The broth is so flavorful and a bit greasy BUT that's where the flavor comes from. The ambiance is always casual and and chill. A great spot to relax and get a nice bowl of pho now that the weather is getting colder.
google avatar

Kezia Cathlin M.

Yelp
My number 1 restaurant to go with my family. Their food is one of the best Vietnamese food I've had in Quincy. They have so many options for Noodles and also Rice plates. They even have lobster tail with their noodle bowl! They have lots of seating inside and got busy during lunch or dinner time. However, even though they are busy but their service has never disappoint. The servers are very quick and attentive. I would very much recommend this restaurant!!
google avatar

Trystan C.

Yelp
Overall pretty decent Vietnamese food compared to the other ones in Quincy. Viet coffee was a solid 8/10 but definitely could be stronger. Ba me all day baby.
google avatar

Huy N.

Yelp
Overall pretty good for the two visit with the family. Not sure if it's the server we had but we have good experience with them. Food still good to satisfy our needs since we're not too picky. Large space so it's a plus for our family accommodation.
google avatar

Wing S.

Yelp
Food and services not bad, but the price for the food went skyrocket. Before the special beef combination pho noodles was around $15-16 now is $22.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
Ample seats with a parking lot! This is now my go to for pho. I usually get the pho dat biet and compared to other places I feel like pho so 1 is generous with the amount of meats you get which is so worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is actually very good. In terms of flavor, portions, taste, it's quickly become one of my favorite Vietnamese spots in Quincy. However, the service does not match the quality of food here. I've visited in person a few times and have spent a lot of my time waiting around than actually eating. It takes a long time to order and I've had to flag a worker down every time for missing items or the check. This would happen even if the restaurant was more on the empty side. In terms of the food, I have yet to meet a disappointing dish here. Their broth is rich and flavorful without being too oily. Rice plates have always been filled to the brim and all parts of the plate is very well-seasoned and tasty. I recently tried the bun rieu and I loved it as well. It's definitely saddening that the service isn't too great, I'd be here all the time otherwise! But for now, I'd only be able to come visit in person if I have a lot of time on my hands. Maybe take-out is the way to go?
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
The food is tasty. However, portions are a little sad. Pho is lacking and rice dishes have too much rice with little toppings. Otherwise, my dish was good.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. One of my favorite places in Boston! The service was quick and the food was delicious! The places gives family owned vibes and what better place to have a nice homecooked meal that's amazing?

Yelp
This is one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Quincy. I've been here twice with large groups with positive experiences. This restaurant is very conveniently located on Hancock Street and has a parking lot right next door that can fit about 20 cars plus street parking. The restaurant is pretty big with lots of tables. There is a private section on the left side of the restaurant that can seat large parties that is partially separated from the rest of the restaurant. Their vermicelli dishes are good, but I find their pho broth to be a bit bland. I recommend the Special Combination Pho or Vermicelli with Shrimp Balls and Grilled Beef. For the pho, you can get the kids to an extra large size. Their menu is very extensive and has about 90 items among their appetizers, special dishes, drinks, soup dishes, and rice dishes. The service here is pretty fast. Usually after we order, the food comes out in 10 minutes or less. The restaurant is very modern inside and has a very clean aesthetic. The bathrooms are clean and they have free Wi-Fi with password. Their prices are on the higher side compared to the traditional Dorchester Vietnamese restaurants, but average for Quincy. The portions were a fair size for the price. Overall, this is one of my go to places for Vietnamese food in Quincy.

Yelp
I have had Vietnamese all over the country. Now I'm rating this according to the choices I've had in Mass. Was it the best I've ever had? No. Does it have good flavor? Yes! The pho didn't have the depth I like but the flavors were there and it was pretty good. The soup was great. All food flavor was good and would definitely make this place a regular if I lived a bit closer. Even the egg rolls weren't skimp on the meat! I appreciate that.
google avatar

Kevino C.

Yelp
Delicious, delectable, delightful. The interior was much bigger than expected. Service was good. Food came out quick. Fresh spring rolls (1A. $6.95) were tasty and paired well with the peanut sauce. The vermicelli bowl (76. $16.95) was packed to the top and tasted amazing. So many flavors and so many textures with the crunch of the carrots and daikon with the savory and sweet grilled pork slices and pork meatballs. Overall, a great experience and a great bang for your buck. Left full and satisfied. Definitely would visit again. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Three months ago, I ordered takeout from this new Vietnamese restaurant in Quincy. I got an order of the grilled pork patty rolls and the Vietnamese shaken beef. I waited almost 45 minutes for my takeout. The grilled pork patty rolls consisted of grilled pork, pickled carrots, radish, and cucumbers wrapped in rice paper. There was also a side of peanut sauce. The rolls were good and tasty. On the other hand, the shaken beef rice plate was a total disappointment. It came with beef cubes, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, snow peas, and zucchini. The beef was very chewy and not tender at all. The sauce was also very watery and had no flavor.

Tong P.

Yelp
Good service, atmosphere, space, but the taste is not good, except desert. Anyway 3 stars. Thanks

Jonathan B.

Yelp
We ate there and the food was fine. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. What's not okay is that I left a $10 tip on a $50 bill and a few days later, I get a heads up from my credit card company that they changed the from $10 to $16 and the bill from $60 to $60. Clearly someone there changed the 0 to a 6 and thought I wouldn't notice. Definitely not going back. If you're going, pay in cash so they can't screw you over. If you do pay with a credit card, double check your bill when it comes.

Maria F.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the food is always delicious. Did take out a handful of takeout a few times as well. Went with my hubby and service was pretty much good. And never really had to wait for stuff. My issue is the how they treat a group of 6+. I've been here one time recently with my siblings and our parents for our mom's 70+ birthday. Party of 6 exactly. Service sucked! We constantly had to look for our waitress for stuff like water napkins. Never did they ask if we needed anything else. Same thing happened for a business dinner I was with my mother and her dentist friends. Service sucked and it took forever. They know they will get 18% automatically if you are party of 6 or more, so they don't even try to be helpful. My other peeve is that host that I always see in front NEVER SMILES. Like she looks she's doesn't want to be there. Seriously? You don't even try to be a welcoming host. Anyway. Food is good. Just don't expect good service if you coming with a big group. Will I continue to go here. Yes for the food. But will always expect bad service.

Dylan H.

Yelp
Fantastic food, always reliable, the best pho in Massachusetts for sure! Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Vickitten C.

Yelp
Pho So 1 serves up the best traditional Pho noodle soup--it's one of our family's favorite spots for pho. The restaurant is quite spacious, but it can get really busy, especially during peak times. The servers are friendly, though there have been a couple of times when they seemed a bit understaffed. Once you place your order, the food comes out quickly, which we always appreciate!
google avatar

Tom Y.

Yelp
we came here for lunch on a weekday. service was a bit too slow. the wings were a good size and juicy but had no taste. the large pho felt like it was a regular pho. the pork chop was very flavorful and thin.

Green H.

Yelp
My God everything was amazing. This place is number one spot go and try friendly. Quick service great prices.
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
Super flavorful pho and everything was very fresh and delicious! Would definitely stop by again!

D C.

Yelp
Pho So 1's food has been consistently delicious, fresh, and in generous amounts. I'm especially fond of their chao (rice porridge) with various meat and/or vegetable toppings to choose from--it's very tasty and easy on the stomach if yours has become more sensitive (perhaps from too much news). All the noodle dishes we've tried (pho, bun/vermicelli, pad thai, and several others) have been delectable, with varied flavorings and a nice balance of meat, fresh vegetables, and sauces. The service is always very polite and kind, although a few servers are a bit newer to English than others. Prices are very reasonable for today's market (I mean REALLY! Have you paid for just a sub sandwich lately?!) Pho So 1 is a large place, so seating has been quick and easy. The music isn't too loud, so you can have a comfortable conversation. The staff is efficient but doesn't rush you, and parking hasn't been a problem at all (yet). I highly recommend Pho So 1 to anyone with a stomach!
google avatar

Rima L.

Yelp
Pretty great Pho. Great service. The broth was a little bit too salty for my liking, but its personal preference. I am not sure if this is associated with Pho So 1 Boston in Randolph MA. Personally love Randolph spot more than this one. It was also more expensive for all the right reasons of course. Check it out for yourself!
google avatar

Anh N.

Yelp
Great vietnamese restaurant in the area. We ordered bun bo hue and pho, they were full of topping, the broth was very flavorful. Good customer service, food came out quickly and the restaurant is spacious and clean.
google avatar

Sonia N.

Yelp
Welcome to Quincy, Pho So 1! It's such a convenient addition to the neighborhood. So far, we've had takeout and dine-in experiences and both are pretty good and consistent. We haven't tried any of their noodle soups yet but my daughter loves their grilled chicken rice plate and we're infatuated with their vermicelli bowls, the grilled pork for him and the tofu skin shrimp with shrimp balls for me. We also highly recommend their specialty crispy clay pot as well. Personally, I'm a sucker for the crispy rice on the bottom. Their avocado and strawberry smoothies also received a seal of approval. The restaurant is quite spacious and holds enough tables so we didn't have to wait even on the weekend which is great. All in all, definitely a solid choice and now on our family rotation at least on a bi-monthly basis.
google avatar

Roni J.

Yelp
Have been dining here on and off for over twenty years, food always excellent even if service tends toward inattentive. Excellent price/value and never disappoints on the food. My favorite cabbage salad shared as a starter and then lemongrass stir-fried chicken is a consistent favorite. Even as prices increase in our inflationary economy, still very reasonable.

Lavy L.

Yelp
This is a nice-looking place with yummy pho and quick service! It is definitely one of my go to spots when I want to treat myself to pho. I do consider the prices a little expensive.. but the broth is one of my faves so I think it's worth it! We always get the chicken pho and the broth is very rich.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Got to tried something dishes yesterday. First thought, place is big and clean. Service is slow, they might have to train their staff to move quicker. Food was good, I liked my hot stone short rib pho. The concept is cool but I wish the broth had more depth in its favor. I will definitely try more dishes next time!
google avatar

Diana N.

Yelp
My new favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area! Cleanliness is a 5, service is 4, food is 5! No matter how pack the restaurant is we always get seated within 5 minutes! Ever since they opened my hubby and I have been here 4x! Our first time we came and got 2 drinks: orange juice and watermelon juice, he got a special vermicelli bowl with the works; it included everything from grilled pork to shrimp pastes and more while I got the rice plate with grilled shrimp and tofu shrimp skin! We were very satisfied with the portions and the flavors! My husband to get a box for his left over vermicelli bowl (2nd meal later on!) I can't wait to come back for a 5x to try the cool looking pho! The parking lot can be full if you go during busy hours but other wise plenty of street parking!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
First time for Vietnamese. We love Thai food so of course we needed to try this new venue and new location for a new experience. Very extensive menu. Not a fan of the huge Chicken Wings as I'm just to stead fast traditional wings. I also think there are much better choices than the beef knobs. Go with one of the Pho noodle dishes or vegetable medley s which in my case was chicken. Rated 4.0 I will go back and continue to try new things. Nice place, excellent service. No alcohol just fyi. Great value... I tipped the same amount as my entire bill and felt good about it.
google avatar

Chu H.

Yelp
Great service and quick with food arriving after placing order. Spacious environment and clean atmosphere. The Bun Rieu and Pho are solid! I'd definitely return!
google avatar

Sovana P.

Yelp
Food is good. But you really have let them know what kind of meat you want in your soup or dish. The services was great. We got the food really fast. The drinks were delicious. The place is beautiful. Clean and very well decorated. I recommend.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Awful wait times, many tables open and waited over 5 minutes and no one sat us down, so we left and went down the road to pho countryside. The times we were able to get seating; service was pretty rude as well.
google avatar

Jen J.

Yelp
So glad they opened a second location in Quincy. This location has a lot more seating with a more modern feel and updated menu. Food was just as good as the Randolph location. We easily found street parking and there is also a parking lot. The only issue I have is that the menu has no numbers like the Randolph menu. I guess they going for a more upscale feel. I need to learn how to say the entree names without butchering the Vietnamese language.

Heather B.

Yelp
The restaurant was big, modern and clean. There seems to be a private function room as well. Our waiter was very sweet and attentive. We knew what we wanted, but spotted her patiently helping another couple who had questions about the menu. We ordered fresh spring rolls, pho dac biet and tomato and crab noodle soup. Everything was delicious. We'll definitely return with our teens, who will also be thrilled about the boba smoothies.
google avatar

Shirley C.

Yelp
Not sure how service can be so slacking when there weren't too many tables during dinner time on a weeknight On top of taking 30 mins to flag down our waitress just to ASK for the check, our order wasn't correct. My order didn't have the fried rice I had requested and we were missing our drinks that we ordered. Luckily we weren't charged for it but still.... It's what we wanted. Don't believe I saw a manager on duty so who's keeping the employees in check? Ambience was ok, if you dont look at the tables that havent been cleared.
google avatar

Alan K.

Yelp
There's many choices for pho but this place has some dishes that are not so common. I have trouble remembering the names of them all as I usually rely on my friends to help describe them but they were all flavorful. Among the dishes were ordered was a fermented fish noodle soup, a curried noodle, a crispy rice clay pot. All the dishes had good flavors and generous portions. I think the fermented fish dish could have used a bit more of the fish flavor but it was still a yummy broth. The crispy rice dish brings back the nostalgia of childhood when you get to eat the scrape the bottom layer of rice off the wok. The staff was friendly and our orders came out in a timely manner. I'd recommend this pace to anyone looking for some solid Viet food in the area!

Yelp
Messed up my takeout order and didn't comp for my meals that I waited for almost an hour on a Monday afternoon. I called in for "Pho Dac Biet" in Vietnamese and ordered other items, nem nuong and com 3 mau. The person who took the order ended up giving me "Pho So 1 To Da Nong" and glad that checked the receipt before I was about to pay. $27.95 +tax for that pho that I didn't even order?! He even managed to explain that there's two types of "pho dac biet", which I have never heard such thing before and tried to imply that it was my fault because I wasn't clear. I was flabbergasted, he must be kidding. I didn't argue and told him to show me the menu and proved him wrong that there is ONE pho dac biet item listed on their entire menu. He didn't say anything and brought some lady over to recheck my order. Bad service with no apology after I pointed it out and instead brought over a woman whom I believe is the owner/Manager. She acted like it wasn't an issue. Management needs improvement and staff needs to study the menu more. Customer service sucks, be prepared to be left waiting at the front door for another 10min when you walk in and mentioned for pick up. As for food, Pho was bland and com 3 mau was cold by the time I brought it home. Nem nuong was good. All I have to say about my experience, waste of time and money.

Yelp
Finally got to try this pho place in Quincy! The place is quite spacious. I enjoyed the pho and it was really tasty. The portions are pretty decent. Would love to come back and try more items
