The Best Condiments for Home Cooking in Lockdown | Eater London

"A Vietnamese eatery on Old Kent Road recommended as a source for potent mam tom (fermented shrimp paste); a spoonful mixed with sugar, calamansi and a dash of water over plain rice is cited as an intense, transformative bite that exemplifies regional fermented-fish traditions." - Jonathan Nunn

Google
When I was a kid, my family and I would eat here all the time since the food was always great and the staff was always friendly. Nine years ago, I moved away for college, and tonight, for the first time since then, my parents and I came back for dinner. The food was even better than I remembered and the staff members were still incredibly kind. Thank you Pho Tay Bac for being a beloved neighborhood staple for all of these years!

The pho was great, the service was welcoming will be coming back!

Google
Happy Hour from 2-5pm!!!! 20% discount between those times. The Pho itself is great, I am no Pho expert but this one was pretty good!!! the rest of the food is also delicious. We ordered the barbecue pork and flavor was fantastic. Prices are good too & they serve very fast

Food was just OK. Portions are good and above average but quality of broth is just average at best. My problem is the daughter of the owner I’m assuming who is constantly on her phone during dinner time. While everyone picks up the slack in the kitchen/front she is too busy on her phone. Surely there must be something she could do instead of checking social media or whatever. No matter how important, an employee; especially an owner, should not be on their phone in the view of customers. Very unprofessional and unsanitary. $70 for 3 bowls of pho and some egg rolls, ingredient cost being no more than $10-$15. Pho is supposed to be cheap, if it’s going to be $20+ a person it needs to be a little bit better considering that you can get better quality for cheaper elsewhere. Restaurant is very run down and has that sticky feeling everywhere. Worth going once if you are in proximity but definitely not worth going out of your way for in this run down plaza. 2/5, would have been 3-4/5 if the daughter was not so useless

Google
10/10/2023 = 4 Star = Costumer service is always good here , but notice meat are not much , minus 1 star for now and will try to visit again soon . 1/6/19 = 5 star = same rating , always have a good costumer service , add new picture . 12/14/19 = 5 star = The best pho in the area , price a bit high but not bad , took a picture on the menu , costumer service is good too .

Google
The pho was very delicious and it is more cheaper than most other pho restaurants. The lady that served us was very nice. However, the place is a little worn down but had plenty of parking outside. I definitely recommend this place and if I am around that area again, I definitely would go back.

Google
Never a dull visit. Always satisfied with this location, with their delicious food and amazing service.

Google
Very classic Pho environment and has been around a long time. I have come to this spot for over 15 years. Great place and good food.

Yelp
TL;DR Comforting, hearty Vietnamese food with generous portions. Sweet family-owned business. Food: I got the egg rolls and meatball pho. The egg rolls are crispy, have a simple filling, but delicious. The pho is aromatic and light, a flavor I keep coming back for. The meatballs taste homemade, with a slight sesame oil flavor. I always dip the meatballs in sriracha and hoisin sauce. The add on vegetables are super fresh, and the jalapeños are also spicy. Service and Ambiance: I go here often, and they are always so sweet. The ambiance is very quiet and relaxing.

Yelp
Usually, I eat banh mi and spring rolls picked up from here, but I decided to dine in on a Friday night. I ordered a large pho with well-done brisket ($13.99) and two BBQ pork spring rolls ($6.99). The portions are generously large, and I knew I'd have leftover pho for breakfast the next morning. The pho had so much rice noodles. Each bite was satisfyingly hot, and the broth tasted good as expected. It tasted even better with Thai basil. The spring roll wrapping was sticky, but it had a lot of vermicelli, grilled pork, and lettuce. The peanut sauce was really tasty. I think I only ate half of the pho after finishing the spring rolls. The ambience was pretty quiet as there were only a few people inside. The restaurant played calming piano music. Each table was clean when picking a spot to eat. I got my food very quickly, just a few minutes after ordering. I'm glad this restaurant has operated so consistently with affordable prices and solid dishes.

Yelp
Came in for a quick lunch and went with the BBQ pork sandwich while my friend ordered a bowl of pho. The sandwich was the highlight. The baguette had a nice crunch on the outside with a soft interior, and the pork was flavorful and slightly caramelized, paired with crisp pickled vegetables and a light spread that pulled it all together. It was filling without feeling too heavy. The pho my friend had leaned on the mild side. The broth was clean but lacked some of the deeper flavor you'd expect. Not bad by any means, just a little underwhelming without the addition of extra herbs, lime, and sauces. Service was polite and efficient. We were seated quickly and food came out in a timely manner. The staff checked in once without being intrusive, and everything was brought to the table hot and neatly presented. The space is casual and functional. It's clean, with simple decor and plenty of seating. Good for a relaxed meal with friends or a solo bite without much fuss. Overall, Pho Tay Bac is a solid spot. The BBQ pork sandwich is worth ordering again, and while the pho could use a bit more depth, it still makes for a comforting meal. Would return to try a few other items on the menu.

Yelp
Pretty good pho. Service was good. I was in a bit of a rush for a quick dinner but this place will not disappoint.

Yelp
If you like pho with a warming, hearty and fulfilling broth, this is the place. Their fresh and clean ingredients such as seafoods don't smell and mints, bean spouts, lime slices and jalapeno slices are crisp. They even offer you sliced onions, which is another great things about this restaurant. If you want an appetizer and can't decide what to order, then go for both spring rolls and egg rolls since they are scrumptious. The service is superb and it is such a delight interacting with the servers and the owner. They all are very lovely people that you would want to come back soon. The restaurant is pretty spacious so it is a good place for not only couple people but also a group. There is plenty of parking so you won't have a problem finding one.

Yelp
This is my go to pho spot whenever I crave pho. I went multiple times and they taste good each time. The broth tastes cleaner (hopefully due to less msg or artificial seasoning). And their servers are super friendly! Thank you..

Yelp
Good food. Excellent broth. Service was good too. No complaints. Happy to have a nice spot close to home.

Yelp
Came here with my partner around 12PM for lunch. Vibes It is a super humble and small shop that seems family owned. Where the bathroom is past the kitchen. Which for asian food, is totally my vibe. It wasn't filled to the brim but had a few large families eating here. Service Fantastic! It was one kind sweet lady taking everyone orders and take care of everyone. She was not overbearing but she had a very welcoming vibe to her that I really enjoyed. Food I ordered the shaken beef with yellow rice. The sauce was SUPER flavorful and the rice was fresh! The meat was a tiny bit tough but on par to most vietnamese restaurants I've been to. Overall, I would come back if I was in the area! I really liked the vibes of the shop and would go back for that alone.

Yelp
Food: 5* Service: 5* Ordered food for pick up. I ordered the bbq pork (2) and shrimp (2) spring rolls. I also ordered the special combo noodle soup (pho). Each were delicious. The bbq pork was smoky and flavorful. The shrimp rolls were soft, tasty, and herbaceous. The dipping sauce, once 8 added the provided sambal olek or sriracha sauce was perfect. The pho was ample, I ordered the large, for two meals. Good amount in both quantity and variety of meat. The soup base was very flavorful. The accompanying herbs and sides for the soup were great. I just love the Thai basil, it is so strong and almost anise like. Very punchy which helps to lift the flavor of the broth. I would return.

Yelp
GREAT attentive service. Got the Seafood Noodle soup. Broth taste was deep/rich. A wonderful meal

Yelp
Good food that has quality beef flavor. Love the service & traditional things here. I would come again.

Yelp
Food was amazing. I ordered a Pho with Shrimp Rolls and it was delicious. Quaint location with classical music playing

Yelp
Staff is always friendly! I will say though skip out on the banh m, it was less than mid.

Yelp
It's the closest pho place to me, also really good and fantastic service! I went in to have a solo lunch I was hungry and needed something warm for a cold gloomy day and it always hits the spot!! I got seated and my order taken right away and the lady was so sweet! It was pretty busy for a lunch hour but got my food fast and hot just how I like it! The parking lot is small but I seem to always find a spot. Thank you for my delicious bowl of pho and wonderful service I can always count on you guys. Have a beautiful day :) Aloha

Yelp
Wow!! Wanted something light and with fresh ingredients. Very satisfying. Ordered the beef with Vermicelli noodles and and appetizer platter. All so good. Sauces came with it and also very good. I am a fan and will be back
google avatar

Yelp
Loads of vegetables with the chicken egg noodle and very flavorful. Brisket PHO was good too.

Yelp
Pho Tay Bac is in a fairly small plaza so I can see parking can be an issue during prime time hours. We visited on a Wednesday during lunch and got decent parking. I want to say that the customer service was my fave experience at Pho Tay Bac. The restaurant has fair aesthetics, nothing fancy but nothing to turn away from either. The food was also just fair to me, nothing to rave about, nothing I would crave.
google avatar

Ariana H.

Yelp
Still as good as ever. Took my parents for the first time and they think it's the best pho in the area (along with the spring rolls and beef brisket).
google avatar

Smita N.

Yelp
Hearty Vietnamese food at really affordable prices in La Habra. Truly one of my favorite ways to end a night and the delicious broth and friendly service are winners in my book.

Abraham T.

Yelp
Service was amazing, food came out so quickly and was delicious! Portions are great and filling. 100% coming back when in the area.

Yelp
I love the owner and the team. I go in about once a week by myself or with friends. It's a great place to enjoy talking and it's not too noisy to catch up with friends. The Ox Tail Soup, Chicken and Beef pho is delicious. They have many other options and if you do not eat meet, they have something for everyone.

Caro N.

Yelp
I guess the service is good if you eat at the restaurant. I got no hello, no thank you, no good bye for my pickup order. Also no lettuce with egg rolls. Owner appeared irritable that I couldn't understand his accent while confirming my order. Overall just left with a bad taste in my mouth despite of tipping as courtesy. Not returning since the food isn't also any more special than other places.
google avatar

Yelp
Best place for pho hands down. Awesome staff that is super helpful. The service is the absolute best and the food is amazing. I come here almost weekly with my fiancée and we get treated great. We always love to sit down in the same spot and know the food will always be consistently great. Highly recommend to try the pho, I haven't gotten any of the dishes with rice or noodles but keep telling myself that I will one day. It's just so hard to try something new because what I always order is so great. I get the P5. Just want to thank the staff for always being so kind and taking such great care of my family and I. We love it here. Thank you!

Raven T.

Yelp
Good food and very fast service! This is my favorite place to go on my lunch break on a cold day. Workers are all very sweet and attentive.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try and the service was very quick. I placed my order over the phone and had it ready within 10 minutes. The brisket pho was very good. The taste felt authentic and one of my new favorite spots.

Fred F.

Yelp
Whenever I plan on being in the area I try to make it at lunch or dinner time so I can eat at this wonderful restaurant. The food is excellent and the service is terrific. I always order the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer with their addictive peanut sauce along with Item B4 Pork, Shrimp, Egg Roll over Vermicelli Pasta and delicious veggies. This is my go to Vietnamese Comfort meal. ;-) I worshiped across the street at Christ Lutheran Church for years and never knew that this restaurant existed but now that I have found it is now one of my favorites in the area. I appreciate that they play soft piano Gospel music in the restaurant.

Gabriel H.

Yelp
Food and Service was amazing. Definitely going back again they are really friendly I think it's the best local pho with affordable prices for nowadays.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
I've been here 5 times now and it has been great every time. The broth is clean and flavorful. Portion sizes are good and the customer service is great. No complaints, delicious pho and egg rolls!
google avatar

Amelia M.

Yelp
Love the smell of pho! This place is small in space, but the quality of the food is good! The service is good, the vegetable is fresh, the crunch of well cooked veggies in pho was quite good! When we came it was lunch time and yes they're packed! We're lucky enough to get a table, the food came quickly and all seasonings were on the table!
google avatar

Yelp
This was the perfect meal after work. Delicious steak pho and spring rolls. The service was very friendly and we were server quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly service, good vibe, and good Vietnamese pho and other dishes. I believe it's Korean owned but they have vietnamese cooks and employees Love their pho and service. I live closer to pho Ha but this place is way better and more meat in their pho and a better price. Check it out one time I always try to supoort family owned businesses.
google avatar

Yelp
The girl is full of smiles, keep on asking everything, OK? The soup is a clean balance of flavors, not too strong with any off flavors. Noodle perfectly cooks, plenty of beansprout , basil, and lemon. There are plenty of parking spaces Price is cheap not

Yelp
This is my families favorite pho spot in town. It is our go to. Every dish we have had we love. But the well done brisket pho is my wife's favorite. I pick it up for her every time she doesn't feel well because it's the only thing that makes her feel better. The service. The staff. And the incredible food every time!! Been eating here regularly for over 5 years
google avatar

Yelp
Go to pho spot in Brea. Great to have an authentic not watered down pho restaurant locally. And my kids favorite eggrolls in all of oc

Pankhi P.

Yelp
Such great food and hospitality! Banh mi was delicious and the girl serving was sooooo kind.

Nicole P.

Yelp
First time here, so good! Ordered a small steak pho. The broth was so flavorful, added some spice since I'm trying to kick a cold brewing. Would 10/10 recommend this place. Will be returning for sure.

Yelp
A friend changed my opinion of Pho after he brought me to this place today. In the past, I've had multiple mediocre experiences with other Pho restaurants and thus avoided Pho for more than half a decade. However, coming back here was a wise decision, especially when I was really hungry and wanted to try something different in case my taste buds have changed. The service was alright, the atmosphere is very welcoming and waiting time was fast. The food makes it worth coming back here; I ordered a fried rice dish with fish and it didn't disappoint. The portion was of a good size too. I would definitely come back to this place to try out their other dishes. I love that they have different menus with visuals, it helps!!

Yelp
Pretty good place! Nothing amazing or out of the ordinary. Actually the egg rolls were pretty small. Wah. The pho itself tasted good . And good portion of beef and noodles. Service was good. Had a big group.

Yelp
I was in Brea Needing pho to cure my sickness/cough. Saw this restaurant the day before. Read the great reviews so decided to give this place a try. Called in to make a togo order. Kind gentleman said my pho will be ready in 10 mins. Inside of restaurant. Plenty of seatings/table. Came at 10:30 a.m. They already had a couple about finished w their meals when I got there. Looks like it is korean own. Nice Korean gentlemen rang up and my order was ready as promised. I got the large P1 pho combination. Lots of plenty of meat. It was axle to make 2 regular bowls. Soup broth was good. It definitely hit the spot. I'd return if I was passing thru. It's in a plaza where I use to take my son for Tae Kwon Do Plenty of parking.
google avatar

George R.

Yelp
I always love the bbq beef spring rolls. There always tasty. My other favorite is the bbq beef vermacilli noodles and pho soup. This place is one of the best in Brea.

Alexandra F.

Yelp
The food is delicious. I got the chicken/carrot curry with rice, and my boyfriend got the rare steak noodle soup. He didn't expect to love the curry but we actually traded dishes halfway through so we could both eat some of each item. We got hot jasmine tea which was nice and strong, I could actually taste it. I will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Living in Brea doesn't have too many options for Vietnamese food and sometimes you just don't feel like driving to Garden Grove / Westmin for that Viet fix! Thankfully this restaurant is nearby. It's decent and will satisfy the cravings for the time being. I've ordered take out a few times and went to dine in a couple weeks ago. I've always ordered the Large Pho special combination and they are always kind of enough to accommodate different noodle request. They are pretty generous with meat even during take out. At some point I'm like I actually want more noodles! Lol. Honestly, it does the job if you're craving pho. Soup broth is good and everything is fresh. My fiancé ordered the shaken beef rice dish. It wasn't bad at all, I mean shaken beef is pretty easy to make with fish sauce. I thought it was good, I had a few bites and I wouldn't mind ordering it at some point. We also ordered fried egg rolls. Don't miss out on these! We had it a few times and was not disappointed. A nice appetizer to pair with pho or any rice dish. Good service and will visit again.

Sabrina S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. I was looking for something authentic since the last place. I had shut down. This was the spot that hit home. I strongly recommend if you are into the authentic pho this would be it.
google avatar

Priscilla G.

Yelp
The first impression was great. My family and I were greeted right away. The pho we ordered was with rare beef pho and the beef pho with fully cooked beef. We also ordered a veggie noodle plate. The servers were so attentive and kept checking on us to see if we needed anything else. We asked for some waters with lemon but they only had limes but that's ok. I would definitely come back next time to try their other menu items. It is worth trying if you like Vietnamese food!

Yelp
WHEN: 12/27/21 Monday @ 12pm Was in the Fullerton and craving pho bc of the rain. Fullerton has a few pho spots, some of which are more modern and expensive but we were feeling a classic traditional bowl of pho which is what this place specializes in. They have about 8 tables inside and also have outdoor seating available. The service was excellent, even when it got busy with rush hour our server was still attentive to us. Honestly, the food was okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I thought the soup for the pho was light in flavor. The pork in the vermicelli dish was the highlight of the meal, it was moist and very flavorful. Prices have increased at this shop so don't expect a cheap bowl of pho. What we ordered: 1. P1, large ($13) 2. B4 ($14)
google avatar

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
3.5 stars for food and rounded up for the excellent service received. I haven't been here in years as we usually opt for Pho Ha for an easy local spot for Vietnamese food. We'll definitely be back more regularly due to the quick food and attentive service.
google avatar

Irving O.

Yelp
Shaken beef w fried rice and a side of broth!!! If you get the chicken pho, I recommend subbing out the regular chicken for bbq chicken! Chicken fried rice No need to thank me!
google avatar

Mel M.

Yelp
This is the best Pho spot in the area. Service always great- super friendly and the portions are very satisfying. If you want good Pho- come here. I've been coming here for years!

Yelp
Always delicious and prepared quickly...I love how they package everything separately for delivery
