Pho Than Brothers Review - Capitol Hill - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Paying less than $8 for about a gallon of Vietnamese broth and a pound of rice noodles is a great move when you’re trying to save money—and at Pho Than Brothers, that’s exactly what you can do. This soup tastes really good drizzled with sriracha and hoisin, takeout is a breeze, and cream puffs come free with every order. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s reliable and tasty enough for your next casual weeknight dinner or lunch break." - Aimee Rizzo

"That's Good Soup Comfort food doesn’t have to be heavy and drowned in grease: just try pho, the light and flavorful Vietnamese soup that’s much loved by Seattleites. Than Brothers is the local chain, with locations all around town, but the Capitol Hill one is one of their longer-established restaurants. First-timers can start with the classic #1, medium-rare beef, before advancing to options such as tripe and tendon; chicken, meatball, and vegetarian choices are also available. The “small” bowl is a hearty, filling portion for about $5, and comes with their trademark cream puff, but add on a Vietnamese iced coffee or tea for an extra sugar-and-caffeine rush. As their menu notes, pho is particularly good when you’re feeling under the weather — Vietnam’s answer to chicken noodle soup, perhaps?"

Went for lunch on a chilly winter day. It was not busy, we were seated fast. Food came really fast. I really appreciate the different sizes. I ordered medium. The broth was well seasoned hot and flavorful, plenty of noodles and meat. No funky smell or taste on the meat( I had tripe and brisket and my companions had different combinations). Coffe and tea was sweet, which is expected. They did not have some of the drinks listed on the menu. The free cream puffs were very much appreciated!

Google
Pho Tran Brothers serves up a solid bowl of pho. The broth was flavorful, and the service was nice and friendly. My order came out hot and fast, which was perfect on a rainy day. The vibe in the place added to the experience. It's definitely worth a visit.

Google
I’m super picky about my pho broth after spending so much money on flavorless white broth (especially for chicken) around cap hill but this place does not disappoint!! Large portion of meat for the price and the cream puff is always appreciated :) they’re also very fast and efficient with to go orders for anyone looking to grab and go!

Google
This location is way cleaner than the UW location. Like other locations, they don't have much service. They come to you for ordering and you pay up front. There is a lot of seating so a good place for large groups. It is one of the few affordable eats in the area.

Google
My all time favorite pho 🍲 place!!! I always get the #9: Tai Chin Nam (rice noodle soup with eye round steak, brisket and well done flank). The soup is so good, noodles are soft and delicious, and portions are always full. Love it 😍. Highly recommended!!!

Google
I didn't really enjoy my pho that much here. I got the meatball pho and some of the meatballs had a weird, hard texture. The broth tasted flavorless. There also wasn't enough broth for my bowl. I do really appreciate the different size options, accessible price, and how kind the staff was. But I didn't enjoy my food that much, so I don't think I'll be coming again.

Google
the pho was the best. the cream puff for desert was so creamy and tasted so good. Service and atmosphere was excellent. A must visit for all pho enthusiasts when visiting Seattle!

Google
02/10/24: it's always a great spot for a great bowl of Pho. I am grateful for this restaurant still opens 06/02/23: it is always always a good Pho location to try. I love their Pho Dac Biet and the staff are great and friendly. I hope I can come back again

Yelp
Visiting from CA, we wanted to grab some pho since it was a cloudy and rainy day! With most Asian restaurants, we wanted to trust the 3.5 star ratings because that's when you know it's good. My boyfriend and I were pleasantly surprised. Honestly the broth was great, flavorful, portion sizes were just the right amount. Our server was quick and it was easy to order. I wish the restaurant wasn't so cold though, it was actually freezing in there but we warmed up fast after eating our pho.

Yelp
Seattle really does have some of the best pho spots :) I ended up at this spot after the restaurant I was trying to go to nearby was unexpectedly closed, but it was a pleasant surprise! We were seated immediately, and our order was taken very soon after which is my indication that a pho place knows what they're doing haha. I got a medium #14 which was essentially a combination pho. They were super generous with the portions, and there were too many noodles that I couldn't even finish. There was also plenty of meat, and I thought it was so cute how they had the tendon piece sticking up. It was also so soft and tender. The soup was clearly made with love, and it was flavorful without being too much. This spot also has chili oil alongside the classic sriracha and hoisin which was really good too! One star off for being basically kicked out at 8pm sharp when they closed. I understand that, but we were almost done and felt super rushed out.

Yelp
It's yummy and in a very convenient location! Called and ordered for takeout and very easy and quick (literally like 5 min turnaround) It's not my favorite pho broth but it's still good!
google avatar

Yelp
It's your fast food pho basically. I would go to pho Bach if it wasn't so far but I live on top of Thanh brothers. It's fast and reliable.

Yelp
A Pho Place most at the end of Broadway. Food: Mainly get the Pho with Combo The times I go with someone else or in a group the place is normally busy already.

Yelp
Back to this place after being away from Seattle for over a decade and it's as good as we remember it!!! It is at a new swankier location, and I do miss the old vinyl and mirrors of the old one, but the smells and the flavors are the same. Lovely!

Yelp
This is a pretty standard pho restaurant - service is lightning fast and portions are huge. They only serve pho here along with some drinks. You can order small, med, large, or extra large, but I found that I couldn't even finish the small. The chicken pho broth was nice and flavorful, but the noodles were a bit disappointing. They were a bit mushy and broke apart as soon as you pulled them. A great stop if you need something satisfying fast! But not the best pho around.

Yelp
Ambience. B Service. A Food. A Price. A Found at end of Broadway middle of block Amongst new built up commercial residential Bldg. Gay friendly as the rainbow flag is proudly displayed. I sometimes feel like I'm in a busy street in Vietnam as the cooks servers are Bantering in Vietnamese loudly and you can hear the wok and spatulas loudly clanging and cooking! Lol Very clean and brightly lit with open tall window and nice lighting. Many tables to eat in. Easy menu. Just choose the toppings for your pho. I had to special request to add tendon to my rare beef and tripe fish. All meats and veggies and noodles and broth are so fresh looking and tasty. The hot broth will cook any rareness out of your meats. Nice slices of tender rare beef. Tender chunks of tendon and springy tender crunchy tripe. Like the lightly flavored clean bone broth. I'm a FaN!!!

Yelp
A lot of food for the low cost! Not to mention that it is really good!!! Also, the amount of time it took to receive your food, super fast and hot!

Yelp
I dunno. There are days the pho is good, and days they are clearly mailing it in. I have a suspicion I can tell based just on who is working that day, as I'm a once a week or so regular. When you get the bland pho it's such a let down considering you just paid $15 and tip for what is essentially a $5 quality meal at best. When it's good, it hits the spot, but lately it's been missing probably 1/3 times I go.
google avatar

Yelp
Best family recipe ever . Can't beat the cream puff or coffee . My only gripe is inflation. 2007, $5 for a small .... Now double . I miss the simpler times!

Yelp
I came by this place for a quick solo lunch and the experience was just what I was looking for - they told me to take any seat available and came by immediately to take my order. The pho came out really quickly and everything I needed (except the fresh toppings, which they brought out) was already on the table within my reach. The pho tasted pretty standard - nothing bad, nothing remarkable - and I was pretty satisfied with the size and price ($12 for a medium bowl). I didn't have to wait for someone to bring me the check and just paid at the register after I finished eating and was on my way with the rest of my day.

Yiqiu C.

Yelp
Big portions for low price in Seattle. Generous meat too. Not the most flavorful broth. You're probably coming here to grab a quick and filling meal instead of expecting exceptional food.

J S.

Yelp
Food is ok and I think they may have manipulated the price range sign on Yelp by adding fees through random charges. It's not just a single dollar sign once you consider there's a CC and tip fee. Pretty smart
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
Don't be misled by the negative reviews. This is a casual, quick pho place that can serve huge bowls of pho for under 16$. It's a pretty bare bones pho restaurant that has decent broth and toppings. If you're in the area I'd check it out!
google avatar

Anev S.

Yelp
This location is just shy of what I would consider filthy. Badly needs a deep clean and VERY badly needs a regular surface clean. But the food was really good! And it's the quickest service you could ask for.

Yelp
guys.... GUYS. This is the best pho I have ever had. Just left Seattle for good and I'm mourning this place like it's my own mother. I started going to this place about a year and a half ago when I would visit my girlfriend as she lived in the area. Ever since trying their C1, I would got multiple times a week every chance I got, to the point where my girlfriend would be annoyed. The broth is so flavorful, the noodles are the perfect texture, they don't skimp you on the meat AND the service is fantastic. 10/10. PLEASE open a location in San Diego, California. I'm your #1 fan.

Lois B.

Yelp
Went in for Pho, were seated, order taken, big bowls of steaming hot Pho were delivered and a few minutes after that, we were informed that they are closing and we need to leave. I said we were not informed when our order was taken and I was told that I should have looked at the posted hours before coming in. We ended up eating too quickly and it was unpleasant and uncomfortable. The place is not particularly clean. The food was good though.
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
Absolutely no complaints about this visit. We came in for lunch and were seated immediately with water without even having to ask. The menu is short and simple, and we picked chicken, brisket and tendon pho. It seemed like it came out within 2-4 minutes, it was seriously that fast. The pho itself was flavorful and filling. The top bowl is a large, the bottom is a medium--we had some extra to take for leftovers and it was still good the next day. The pricing was very reasonable for the portions and the quickness on a weekday!

Yelp
My favorite Pho place in Seattle, hands down. Quick, delicious, and easy. Highly recommend for a casual meal!

Yelp
This place was great, clean, friendly, and the food was amazing. We had the pho ga and pho ba tai.

Tani S.

Yelp
We were doing the Capitol Hill walk from a recent book that we had picked up (Seattle Walks) and this was the perfect stop along the route, as well as it being walking distance to Volunteer Park and across from one of our favorite coffee spots (Espresso Vivace). The service was extremely friendly and the kitchen appeared clean which was in-line with their excellent food safety rating. We loved the high ceiling with light steaming through and clean wooden tables. The bowls of pho were delicious. This is one of the nicer pho Than brothers and we've all been to.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Ordered pho to go and they didn't give any herbs! What's the point? And then the guy says they dont have any today. Failed to mention that when I ordered not when I picked up our order. So rude when I called back and the guy said. "Yeah there is none today." Did not rectify the issue. It's been slowly declining here for the last few years while then increasing in price. Will not go back.
google avatar

Yelp
This wonderful place has been on Capitol Hill for years. They recently relocated to the other side of Broadway to allow for more seating. The charm of the place is that the Than Brother's aunt makes homemade cream puffs that arrive at your table for desert, even before your soup arrives. For free. The broth is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. If you are a Pho fan, you must check this place out. The legendary Broadway Street experience has diminished over the years, but this place has survived, and for good reason. I never miss a visit to this gem when I go to Seattle.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning after a not too wholesome Friday night. The warmth of the broth revived my body and let me feel alive once again. Thank you
google avatar

Arif J.

Yelp
Extremely underrated. Best pho in Seattle. They give good portions too! A medium size can easy be two meals.
google avatar

Yelp
There is a lot of MSG in their soup. Avoid at all cost if you are at all sensitive or allergic. It's not worth the pain after.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I's favorite spot!!! You can never go wrong with Pho Than brothers. It is consistent every time and so delish! I always trust the Pho Than Brothers "chains" but this is my far the best one in my opinion. They are so fast to serve you and you can be in an out really quick! And being Vietnamese I am picky when it comes to pho and this place is the next best place to having my mom's homemade pho :) Street parking is tricky. Or there is a garage attached to it but it's kinda expensive. Or park in the QFC and register your car for 30 minutes!
google avatar

Charlie P.

Yelp
It's ok, nothing to write home about but it hits the pho spot and prices are fair. I would come again for the price point. Very nice owners
google avatar

Robin L.

Yelp
So in the short stretch of Broadway you pass by 2 Vietnamese places. One of them is Pho Than Brothers and you don't really need to know the other one. Just in terms of ambience and service, this place hands down takes the cake. Only thing that I would say is that the broth is sweeter than most regular broths. Still very good though. I got the large at PTB and it was actually much bigger filled with meats. The other place... well let's say they don't even compare. If you're on Broadway and looking for Vietnamese Pho, this is the place to go to.

Yelp
First time trying this place after walking by it almost everyday. Pho is always perfect for a rainy day, but overall 4/5 for taste. It's not bad. The place is very aromatic when you walk in and it definitely smells like broth that has been simmering for hours. The only thing I didn't like was that the broth was a little too sweet for me, it overpowered the bone broth that was simmering. But other that that I enjoyed it. I liked that the pho noodles were cooked al dente and that the medium sized came with a perfect amount of noodles and beef. I just wish there was a little more tendon tho. Also, it's on broadway so parking can be hard to find- but definitely easily accessible by foot if you're in Capitol Hill or the 60, 49, 9 and the Capitol Hill link station. FYI- they charge you $0.75 for takeout.
google avatar

Ludo R.

Yelp
The idea of this place is to make only a few things, but make them well. I ordered a Tai Chin Nam Gan Pho Bo. It came out of the kitchen in a matter of seconds. They must have a huge pot of boiling broth and meat cuts ready to be dipped into the soup. The broth was very light but full of flavor. I also enjoyed the chilly oil that had a sweet note to it and was not overly hot. Service is ok, but this is not a fancy place. You don't come to a place like this to have a Michelin star treatment. They never refilled my water though, but it's no big deal. I would 100% recommend this place.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Finding a delicious broth for pho is like one of those elusive endeavors, usually doesn't happen unless you aren't looking for it. Pho Than Bros is one of the non-descriptive-type places where you would least expect to hit the jackpot so are extra happy when it strikes you that you've done just that. Pho Than turned into a take-out mainstay during the pandemic. We tried a number of variations, not once were disappointed. The guys who work there are no-nonsense- not a place to look for bedside manner, but a quick, efficient, delicious meal? They've never let us down.
google avatar

S F.

Yelp
The pho was on point! I got the chicken and it was very flavorful and made perfect, especially on a rainy afternoon.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Excellent pho, amazing broth, great service, as good as it gets if you are simply looking for a great bowl of pho. I have been coming to this place for more than 20 years and it never disappoints me.
google avatar

Hebe L.

Yelp
Cheap and good quality. The X-Large is gigantic, I believe it can feed three people! Usually I order the Medium one if I didn't share with anyone. Their cream puff is great! It's better if you put it in the freezer!!! The young coconut drink is alright, they put way too much ice in it. Their broth are really good, I recommend going with several friends and order the X-Large one. The waiters are nice too. I will definitely come here more often.
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
They have raised their prices repeatedly in the last few years and I feel their increase is the most drastic out of all the places I go to. I used to eat pho if I wanted a cheaper meal but for these prices, I'd rather eat other things.
google avatar

Lydia B.

Yelp
Such good pho at such a good price!! Food comes out fast! Tasty pho. I'm a SF native and I approve this message Seriously good food. Noodles are very soft and chicken is good :)
google avatar

Lando T.

Yelp
Fast service and perfect spot to pop in after work. I ordered the #14 and it was amazing. When I say this pho was so good that I saved some for the next day, I'm not joking. The portions are huge and makes for an excellent dinner on a cold or warm day.
google avatar

Armen A.

Yelp
This place is good. I visit Than brothers often and am never disappointed. The pho is really good, the menu is decent and very well priced. The portions are great as well, I never leave the restaurant hungry or unsatisfied. If you are in the area, definitely give them a try, I think you you leave with a smile on your face and a satisfied tummy.
google avatar

Valerie W.

Yelp
Not bad, not great. It's a good stop for pho if you're in a hurry. PROS: quick, inexpensive, ok food CONS: not a vast menu like some, broth kind of sweet and not super flavorful on own All in all it wasn't bad. I enjoyed that I was served promptly and could be in and out quickly. It's like the fast food for pho. Menus and utensils/sauces are already at the table. My large pho was more like giant and less than $8 including taxes. The free cream puff...meh. Not a fan but oh well. Small space but wasn't overly crowded late lunch hour.
google avatar

Lulu L.

Yelp
Utterly delicious! Reasonably priced, huge portions, and great service. I walk w/ a walker and one of the staff members kindly seated my friend and me at a four-top to make room for said walker. You'd be surprised how many businesses in Seattle don't understand that walkers and wheelchairs take up room and that the disabled don't wander around trying to inconvenience business owners. Everything about lunch at Pho Than Brothers was wonderful.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Was in need of some good Pho in hopes of clearing up a cold and it did just that- ordered an extra large Pho Ga and Chrysanthemum tea with honey (recommended by our super nice waitress) and couldn't ask for a more filling/ reasonably priced meal. Added a bunch of spices and boy! Next day my cold was pretty much gone. Love this place, I highly recommend it on a cold winter day or especially if you feel a little under the weather.
google avatar

Danny S.

Yelp
Puff, puff, puff. No, I'm not talking about Jigglypuff (who I happen to main in Super Smash Brothers Melee) or Puff, the Magic Dragon; I'm talking about the only puff that matters in this world: CREAM PUFFS. Before you get your pho-od here, you're greeted most amicably by a soft, delicate CREAM PUFF. When's the last time you had a cream puff? When's the next time you'll have a cream puff? Oh wait.. I think I know the answer to the latter: tonight, after you come to Pho Than Brothers for a nice, hot bowl of pho and a CREAM PUFF. Besides the cream puff, the pho here is simple and to the point; they have four sizes: including an XLARGE size if you're feeling extra feisty. Definitely one of my pho-avorite spots in all of Capitol Hill, and it would be a crime if you didn't come here soon. The (Pho Than) Brothers will be waiting with open arms and the cream puffs will be as well. Seriously though... if you don't come here you're under arrest.
google avatar

Derika M.

Yelp
I love this place! It's my go to pho place, especially since they have complimentary creme puff (not offered right now with covid due to loss of business). The pho is really good & honestly there's so many places that have good pho, but the price here for what you get is great. I usually just get a small size, whereas other places I pay more for a large which is equivalent to pho than's small. When I'm in the mood for pho this is the first place I think of.
google avatar

Hien L.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to grab a quick bite after class and decided on getting pho. I have only been here once, several years ago and decided to give this place a shot again because the pho place that I always go to is remodeling. We chose to eat here because it was close to us and the complimentary cream puff seemed tempting. To start off the complimentary cream puff was stale and it's obvious that it isn't fresh. My waiter was extremely impatient and looked annoyed when I had questions about the menu. They also do not offer fat broth which is rather disappointing. The bo vien (meatball) here is also considered an add-on which is ridiculous. Most pho places have tai and meatballs as one set but not this one. When the pho came out it was lukewarm and not hot. I ordered a small Pho Tai (round steak) and I'm glad I did because the broth was very flavorless. The portion size was smaller than anticipated because there were barely any noodles. The cut of the tai (round steak) was very thin, and that leaves no room for the meat to be medium rare. The broth was watered down and too sweet, almost like they were trying to mask the lack of flavor with sugar. Broth also lacked depth and did not match up with the taste of pho that has been slow-cooked with the appropriate bones, seasonings, and herbs. My whole experience here has been pretty PHOgettable and if you want to taste authentic pho do not come here. You're better off going to Pho Bac on Jackson St.

Victoria M.

Yelp
The Pho here looked good in the pictures but the broth is so bland I could not make it taste good even after generously adding hoisin and sriracha. The meat is extremely tough and chewy. Overall, it's some seriously below average Pho.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
My favorite. I have eaten here dozens and dozens of times. I almost always order the large veggie pho. It is simply outstanding - the bowl is always hot, the people are nice and the time from when I order until I get the bowl is so quick. The food itself is quite good. As far as temperature, I do sometimes have to let it cool down first before eating. I've read a few other reviews like "the complimentary pastry is stale... the broth is flavorless..." So... if you go to a restaurant expecting to pay under ten dollars for a meal the size of a football to be served to you like you're a goddess down from the mountain, I guess maybe it might be somewhat underwhelming. I personally don't go for the complimentary pastry - I go for the delicious pho. The broth is excellent.
google avatar

Hannah Z.

Yelp
This place had really good pho. Friendly service, and a little cream puff to eat while you wait for your food. I got the Pho Bo Tai Chin (eye-round steak and brisket according to the menu). The steak was good and plentiful, the noodles were good, and the broth was warming and flavored well. I'd come back here for sure.
