Yelp
This place has been on my radar for a couple of years. Yesterday, I decided to stop here after a play at UNLV. When I normally go to a Vietnamese restaurant, I generally have gone for a banh mi sandwich but I seem to always end up getting pho.
Yesterday was the perfect day for pho--cold and rainy. However, I stuck with my idea to get a banh mi sandwich instead of pho because of the Yelp reviews.
I went in and they had some difficult seating me. Evidently, they're short handed and they were also slammed with customers. There were a lot of tables, but almost all of them had dirty dishes on them. The woman who greeted me took me to a table for 5. I felt odd taking this space, but she was OK. After a while, a couple of the servers joined in and cleared some of the other tables.
I ordered the Banh Mi Thit Nuong--a grilled pork sandwich. When it came, you could see it filled with pork, vegetables, and a few sliced jalapeños. In addition,I had some sliced jalapeños from when I was first seated along with a slice of lime. I added the extra jalapeños and squeezed some lime on the sandwich. Then, I was surprised when I realized that a cup of pho came with the sandwich. It was very hot and very good. It was one of the richest pho bases I've had.
The banh mi was just exceptional. The bread was perfect--crispy edges and soft interior. Since I'm at UNLV often, I'll be back during the winter for some more pho with meat and noodles.
Service was a bit slow but as I said, I think they're shorthanded and there were still a number of diners waiting for their pho. I'll cut them some slack!
