Best Pho Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"A family-owned establishment in Houston’s northwest side, Pho Thanh Long has been serving flavorful phở for nearly 20 years, and it still operates out of its original location. The friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere add to the experience, and the large menu boasts options from the đặc biệt (the special) with all the meats, to a seafood phở that comes with shrimp, squid and scallops. Still hungry? Add a side of the classic spring rolls with peanut sauce." - Minh Truong

Been coming here for years—family friends run this place and they always deliver. The #49 vermicelli with charbroiled pork and eggrolls is my go-to. Crispy, fresh, and packed with flavor. Always hits the spot no matter what I get.

Nick Cubito

Google
We love to get these egg rolls!! Very Crispy! This place always seems to be busy but there good.

I’ve been coming here for over a decade+ and it’s my go to for Vietnamese in NW Houston. Service is always friendly and quick; the food is fresh, delicious and consistent. The MUST order dish … the Chả Giò (fried egg rolls). Made the old school way with a rice paper (bánh tráng) wrapper, containing a wonderful, addictive & balanced filling showcased in a crispy, blistered exterior - just phenomenal! Comes with a plate full of fresh green leaf lettuce, pickled carrots, cucumber slivers and cilantro sprigs… just be careful biting into these when they come out because they are nuclear hot (temp) on the inside. And because I’m also addicted to the Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls (Gỏi Cuốn), I get these every time also. Loaded with shrimp, strips of pork, lettuce and the good kind of vermicelli, these offer a great flavor combo and chewiness satisfaction. Entree wise, I usually go for the Pho or a hot vermicelli dish. The Pho here is great - hearty, plentiful and overall delicious. The broth stands on its own; well-developed and a great balance of flavors.. it’d be a shame to douse it with sriracha and hoisin. Another generous fresh plate of veggies is coupled with your bowl of Pho to accentuate and elevate your experience - bean sprouts, jalapenos, cilantro, thai basil and a wedge of lime. Please visit Pho Thanh Long!

Google
Really good Vietnamese food, with a calm atmosphere, great place for a date. I can't speak to the authenticity as I'm not Vietnamese, but I can say they make delicious food with fresh, simple ingredients. I recommend the #49, pork vermicelli with egg rolls, I've been craving it since the first time I got it. My favorite part of Vietnamese food is how much they use fresh produce and make it flavorful, and the chefs here do that very well. Service was great too, we were seated and had our orders taken within minutes, the food was made quickly, and the waiters and waitresses always refill your water. I will be going here in the future, and probably will for a while.

Google
In my opinion, this place is just okay. My friend and I dropped by on a Sunday night and we were seated right away. For appetizer, we ordered the spring rolls and for the entre, I ordered the Pho with eye round steak and tripe. The spring rolls were fine but I was a little caught off guard with their peanut sauce. The peanut sauce I'm used to is thicker and saltier but this one tasted a little watered down and the consistency was similar to that too. As for the pho, the soup was honestly pretty bland. There wasn't much meat in there either so it was a little disappointing. On a high note, I ordered the Kumquat Sugarcane juice which was a nice refreshment! Aside from that, the service was standard but I would have to say this place is a 2.9/5.

Google
Let me tell you about this fried rice with lemongrass beef. When I say this beef must have been marinated for a couple of days. It was tender and flavorful with every bite. The cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes were extremely fresh and cut beautiful. I can't wait to return and have the Pho.

Google
VERY authentic. great prices for lunch i think everyone should try this at least once, absolutely delicious. Service is ok just make sure you ask for everything you need at once

Google
This is the best PHÓ restaurant! The best food flavor! The friendliest service! The flavor of the broth is most amazing. The crawfish pop-up events are phenomenal! 10/10 for this place!

Yelp
Best pho I've had in a loooong time Got the order right everything was so good! Service was great ! Typical Vietnamese resistance but the pho is is more than typical

Yelp
The pricing on their Yelp menu is wildly outdated. Chicken Spring Rolls are not $5.75, that seemed fairly obvious. But the menu photos are outdated too... 7 years ago their Chicken Spring Rolls $6.30 4 years ago their Chicken Spring Rolls $6.95 Ok, $6.95 could be the price. Better check their website (who has time for all this?) No, not $6.95... they cost $9.40 now. After that fun little example of inflation, we decided to order anyway... big mistake. I had the Beef and Asparagus, soon after I had the stomach grumbles with an emergency run to the restroom. Steer clear.

Joshua T.

Yelp
General Tso's Chicken and their fried rice was horrible. Tasted like old chicken being reheated. Everything else is good.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I absolutely love this restaurant. The pho is out of this world. The vermicelli with roasted chicken is one of my favorite dishes. Today I tried the roasted duck. I will be hard pressed to ever order anything else ever.

Yelp
Every time I'm here it's as good as the first time .The pho is amazing! I come here a lot and every time it sees to amaze . If you've never been here before you should, the Egg Rolls are amazing. You will be dreaming about them. The service is always really fast and kind. You never have to wait too long. Usually it's not too busy so it's easier to find a table .definitely a place I'll recommend.

Yelp
I've been a regular at this restaurant for many years and I've consistently enjoyed the familiar, delicious food, speedy service, and reasonable prices. It's a great spot to dine at!

Yelp
I have been coming here for years. The food and service are excellent! Full menu, the BBQ pork spring rolls are the best!

Yelp
Here is another restaurant that I gave a solid four stars. They were pretty close to five stars but the lemon grass beef was totally different that I'm used to trying so I had a knock them down to four stars. I guess everyone can't be perfect. Food: the Vietnamese eggrolls were absolutely amazing and I am pretty sure they were freshly made to order because they came out piping hot. I had to let them cool down for a little bit because like I said they were extremely hot but they were amazing. Five stars on the Vietnamese eggrolls. The hot and sour soup was so good. My gosh that was some of the best hot and sour soup I ever had. Five stars on the hot and sour soup. I'm telling you right now it's full of flavor and very tasty. Here is where they lost star. My main entrée was the lemongrass beef and it was strange. It was not like your normal lemongrass bees. It was kind of tough flavored very oddly. It was not that great. But everything else was amazing. Maybe next time I need to try the pork. I don't know but I was not a fan of the lemon grass beef. Customer service: the customer service is pretty good. The food came out in a timely manner. Everyone was friendly and nice. The prices were really good as well. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
The staff were friendly but this is not Vietnamese food. We couldn't finish this. If you like Vietnamese food, don't come here as you'll be very disappointed.

Lauren M.

Yelp
When you walk in the restaurant the smell is indescribably delightful. Immediately you are given prompt service by one of the many servers here. Service is always exceptional with water refills 24/7. The food is so delicious and wonderful every time. DO NOT skip out on the Vietnamese egg rolls as they are the best ever! Seriously though for $9 4 HUGE egg rolls is such a good deal! I really appreciate how they give so many veggies with it as well because a lot of other restaurants do not. The pho is delicious as well! My partner loves the #14 with egg noodles as it is so savory and flavorful in every bite. I opt for the #26 soup because I love the broth and variety of protein in the soup! Do not skip out on this place as it continually has delicious food, exceptional service, and a nice relaxing atmosphere!

Long L.

Yelp
Food here is legit!!! Got the rice plate with my fiancé both our food was so yummy. Servers were very friendly too. I think next trip I'm gonna try their pho. So glad to have a good Vietnamese restaurant next to my house. This will be our go to place from now on for lunch.

Hong W.

Yelp
The food is awesome here. Great staff and nice ambiance. No it isn't a fancy place but what a gem. I haven't tried everything but everything I did try was excellent. Their Vietnamese egg rolls are out of this world and without question the best egg rolls in town. Also their lunch menu is a steal.

Yelp
Always love coming here for pho never disappoints! I literally come here way too much lol definitely worth it won't regret it! Service good and food delicious.

Yelp
Everything was delicious and the customer service was so friendly. I love the painting on the wall, it remind me of Vietnam! Will recommend this place to everyone!

Yelp
Food is decent. Great lunch specials. Service is fast. Everyone looks miserable. Especially the men and one woman. No one smiles but they're quick so can't complain too much. Came for lunch and it was busy but nothing crazy. I was in and out in 35 min. My appetizers came out in 5 min. I ordered half eggroll and half spring rolls. And a small bowl of meatballs. The server thought I said meatball pho. My soup they got wrong but corrected immediately. Pho broth a little bland but nothing salt can't fix. They were quick with everything except picking up my check so I just went to the counter.

Yelp
Pho Thanh Long never fails to satisfy my pho cravings (yes, even in 90 degree weather). The blasting cool AC makes you want that hot soup in your system! I went with my best friends from childhood and we love it there. We can get a little loud but we felt very comfortable catching up with the ambiance. I ordered a large Pho Tai which is thinly sliced eye round steak and my friends got the same thing, except one small while our other friend got the chicken (I don't wanna butcher the spelling) pho. If you've never had pho at places like this you are missing out on authentic Vietnamese cuisine and it's very healthy because of the add ons like scallions, onion, jalapeños, and even lime. Very filling and affordable! Always a great spot for pho.

Yelp
My hubby and I always enjoy dinning here. We mainly enjoy the Empire rolls! I like the vermicelli bowl with eggrolls and also Spring Rolls with peanut sauce. All waitstaff are always very kind and very prompt. Although like everywhere prices have gone it its definitely ok and worth it.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
This is my go to lunch spot for work. The service is fast and the food is always delicious. I regularly get a combination pho and an order of the delicious egg rolls. The staff is always friendly and my food is always ready when I arrive.

Yelp
The food is so amazing, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere feels relaxing. Getting back to the food- best Pho ever and everything I have had on the menu has been exceptional. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Our very favorite Vietnamese restaurant in town. Consistently good, quick and very nice staff!

Yelp
The food is just amazing! We love the Pho, the beef (no 73) and the lunch specials are outstanding! Service is always good and the ambience is casual and relaxed. It's a favorite

Yelp
Our usual pho place wasn't open on Sunday so this place came up when we were trying to find something quick to eat. I had high expectations given the high reviews. To be clear, my 3-star is not related to the service or the staffing. I understand and am aware that many restaurants are facing staff shortages due to covid. they did their best to accommodate given they had limited people to wait the tables and make the food; thus, the wait was a bit longer. That's expected and I'm ok with it. My low rating is due to the taste of the food and the number of toppings. I ordered the seafood (shrimp, scallops and squid) pho and my bf got the flank and brisket pho. we both paid $2 to get meat balls for our pho. I was disappointed in the quantity and quality of protein. My 2 scallops were tiny like the size of beads... squid was only 2 pieces. There just wasn't much toppings on it. As for the meat balls, we paid $2 each and it was basically one meatball cut in 3-4 pieces. I've shopped in asian grocery stores and I know how much it cost for a whole bag of meatball. $2 is quite pricey for one meatball. The broth lacked flavor so had to add seasoning on it. Not sure I'd come back...there are other places that top this one...

Yelp
Best Pho on the North side of Houston. Getting it ToGo is really good, and always fast. But.... Eating it there is almost a divine experience. I didn't know good broth could get even better. But oh, it does. Maybe it's magic in the gallon size china bowls they serve it in, or maybe when you can smell the spices cooking it adds a new dimension? Whatever the reason, order some ToGo today, and then go eat there this week so you can enjoy two days of amazing broth soups along with the magical mystery of even more yumminess when you dine in. You can thank me later!

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Very impressed with all dishes. Vietnamese egg rolls are huge, crispy, and very tasty. Fish sauce is great! Crushed rice with lemongrass beef was good. Portion is huge. Egg was over cooked, but everything was still very good and fresh. Pan fried rice noodles with seafood - this isn't a dish I can find at every Vietnamese restaurant, and while it doesn't hold a candle to my favorite place, it's still very good. Seafood seemed fresh - no imitation. Noodles are cooked properly. I'm stoked to have a place close by where I can get this dish! Plan to try the pho in the future. Definitely will order again.

Yelp
I've spent quite a bit of time looking for a pho spot that I like. I've tried probably over 20 places in and around Houston. After all that time spent driving around, I finally found out that one of the best places here is close by my home out on 249. This restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is modern. You can tell that the staff and owners care about the place. The staff are very attentive despite the revolving door of takeout orders and the many dine in patrons. We ordered a coffee that was absolutely delicious and NOT BITTER even though it was strong. The Vietnamese egg rolls are very filling and the filling itself is not bland. The fish dipping sauce it the best I have tried, hands down. They bring out lots of greens to dip with the egg rolls. The pho comes in a large bowl. We asked for meatballs to be added. The meatballs are obviously made in house and don't have that rubbery feel that I've gotten at some places. They're delicious. The broth is fantastic. The meat is all tender and it decent quality. The tendon is actually soft and is the best I've had in the area. Seriously. I'm so happy I live close by. This is going to be forever one of my favorites. Come check this place out and enjoy!

Yanet M.

Yelp
Service usually pretty good till today they got my order wrong and only wanted to change half of my egg rolls to correct their mistake
google avatar

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in houston! Their pho is always so flavorful and piping hot, and their vermicelli bowls are so fresh. My favorite go to dish is their pan fried noodles with seafood--- delicious! They're service is also very quick!

Yelp
The food and the staff were good my only issue was the take out containers I ordered the #15 pho soup and i found it weird that they put the noodle meat and vegetables in a white styrofoam container instead of putting eveything in a plastic bowl like any other vietnamese restaurant does.(i had to pay .75 for the bowl just to eat my soup at school,) which money is no issue and I completely understand charging the costumers for any extra containers, but if this restaurant is trying to kill the plant faster by making their customers buy an extra container to eat their soup in a bowl instead of it being in a white styrofoam container, its working and another thing when i opened the bag the broth was spilled all over the bag. The food was good and the staff was really nice but if its a soup that a customer wants why not give us a plastic bowl container? Some of us dont go back home you know?

Yelp
I usually don't review yelp a lot, i do once in awhile to give the establishments the credits they deserve, not just complaints. Today is pho Thanh Long. I ordered check out before while was at a hotel. There were Banh Canh & pork chop broken rice (my favorite). The portions of the 2 meals were enormous feeding enough me & my 2 girls for the entire day. I was stunned by how much I'd enjoyed the meals though they were carry out. Another time we were all out for lunch & decided to sit down today, we ordered everything but had to take home eventually because of the kids. The workers there were super nice & accommodating with our requests & the food was out just 10min later (we ordered more this time) the food lasted us 2 days. Yesterday i was in mood for some pho through ubereats & made a weird request only knowing it just had been done, but the waitress i was on the phone with was very much understanding. I got what I wanted even though it was late they were closed & i can imagine the rush but not them. The service they provide has been spectacular. The order got delivered just how i'd expected every single detail been honored carefully way past my standards. Of course it was too delicious, yall cant see together in the bowl cause i ate it too fast. And if Thanh Long please bring back Pork chop for the rice i'll bring donations.

Yelp
First time here and probably my last visit. Not a place for me, if y'all reading this, there are better place to eat Vietnamese food. This one, just a no no for me. Fried Eggroll is bland. Wonton soup base was ok but the meat inside has a wet dog smell. I had the beef with rice, and beef was so chewy.
google avatar

Tuan T.

Yelp
This is one of the best dishes made by owner and his parents which brought the ultimate tasty feelings for their new patreons like me and your children would definitely like this dish. Waiters and waitresses here are perfect with their customer service and paying attentive to me and my wife and I heard that they have hero discount for veterans and current service member cuz the owner there named Thi served in the Marine Corps for 4 years.
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
This place is seriously absolutely amazing. I was on the way to the nail shop and ordered food on the way. I've never had such a great chicken vermicelli bowl.

Randa A.

Yelp
Delicious shrimp spring rolls and shrimp and raw meat pho! Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Love the fried tofu! I get it every time. Plenty to share, but recently we've been getting two. It's just delicious. Staff is very nice.
google avatar

Lucy L.

Yelp
First of, core: Pho was 5.5/10, pork spring rolls 7/10, tofu dish 3/10. Drinks... ummm, its hard to mess up drink with the help of Coca-Cola and some coconut water factory fairies, so no comment. YET! I appreciate the décor and atmosphere. A lot!!!!! I wish more restaurants would me to wonderland every time I dine out. YES Please!!! The art, the lanterns or lights.... the owner has great taste. Friends? The price is on the higher side, cuz the location?? Probably. It makes sense, they have to offset the pretty decoration. Worth the extra $2-3. The vegan options weren't great, but I was too mesmerized to ask the server to help check if the food was done correctly. P/S: pictures coming....

Yelp
I was in the area and was extremely hungover and wanted soup. My typical choices for Asian food is Bellaire so that's what I'm going to compare it to. The eggrolls were the best thing here as far as the rest of the items I got I really could do without. The hu tieu mi was very bland and there was barely any meat in the bowl of soup. The pho ga was lacking any real pho flavor, kind of just tasted like regular chicken broth and noodles. Also got the hu tieu date ap chao and it was just a greased plate, thr beef was extremely salty and tough. If I came back to this area I would just stick to the eggrolls. They get 4/5 from me.
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
I was in the area and was in the mood for Vietnamese food after seeing this placed listed in Yelp. I have been eating Vietnamese food for a very long time in the most authentic restaurants all across Houston. I was very pleased with the flavor & quality of the food. I had #16 & my daughter had #46. Both were on pointe, and imo, tasted better than most of the Vietnamese restaurants in midtown. I was fortunate to find this place, but sad that it is no where close to my side of town. Tomball is VERY lucky to have this gem.
google avatar

Garrett M.

Yelp
Food was really good but what pissed me off the most is when I took my son to the bathroom and my bowl was taken away. My wife didn't even have a chance to stop him just before the waiter started throwing trash in the food.
google avatar

Dirk S.

Yelp
Love coming to this place whenever I'm in the mood for Vietnamese food. Their pho is probably some of the best I have had in the immediate area. I also like to order their chicken lettuce wraps and the Grilled "Chicken" Vermicelli Bowl - Bún Thịt Nớng Chay Always good service and fresh authentic food.
google avatar

Romelly P.

Yelp
Gotten take out from here a couple diff times and the food's delicious! Customer service on the phone and in person is good. My only thing is the smell of the Singapore noodles is strong with bamboo shoots and something spice but once you get past that, it's pretty yummy.
google avatar

FoodMakes M.

Yelp
Lucked out by just taking a chance to stop in while driving around the area. I knew it had to be decent when the place started filling up shortly after arriving Sunday afternoon. The staff is attentive, responsive and generally friendly without being too friendly. The dining area was clean and dishes removed promptly. Drink refill service was timely. Spring rolls were a good size and portion of 4. Generous with the sauce though the price was considerably higher than I'm accustomed to. They were fresh though I would have preferred they were cooler. The pho was tasty and piping hot. Toppings and additions were fresh. The small bowl probably would have been enough, but I opted for the large since the price difference wasn't much more. I would recommend stopping in and also visit again. Nothing negative to say at all so they get the full five stars.

Tyler E.

Yelp
This place is a great and authentic spot to grab some pho and hot jasmine tea. Definitely recommend highly!

Sofia E.

Yelp
Best part was the fortune cookie at the end. Wonton soup had an off-putting smell. Entree was mediocre. Came with a friend and she agreed. Service was friendly but awkward. Wouldn't come back. Sorry.

Jesus H.

Yelp
Great food honest people I left my wallet Saturday and they brought it back to me! Good people!

Yelp
Their food is so good, it's amazing, the prices are pretty good for all the food that you get, their staff is pretty friendly and nice, have been coming here for few years now and I have never had a problem, they are great, love getting their pho, and their egg rolls, they are amazing!!!!

Yelp
Unique Salt Fried Tofu dish that brings me back every time I'm in Houston. I sure wish I could find a Vietnamese restaurant here that serves it. It comes to the table and a beautiful bed of romaine leaves. Since we are sharing it we've asked for an extra cup of the vinegary sauce that is optional but really gives the dish and excellent flavor. I wish I understood how they cook this tofu, however none of the chefs we are available and the servers primarily speak Vietnamese with a little bit of English mixed in. Maybe next time. Speaking of service, it is fantastic here. You're offered water immediately upon arriving at your table, your drink order is taken, menus given and very shortly there-after they return for your order. They are very patient and if you decide on an appetizer and want it started while you continue to peruse the menu they are more than happy to accommodate! The tofu mentioned above happens to be in the appetizer category. Our server was very attentive-Offering additional water and refreshing our beverages frequently. Everything I have eaten here, I have enjoyed. The Hot&Sour Soup has beef broth that is super rich along with small, tender bits of beef, few mushrooms, bamboo shoots and just enough heat. I have enjoyed the Shrimp Phó-and the Beef, Pork and Chicken Bùn-I get them in the traditional style and I use all of the condiments provided. I add the optional jalapeños and chili sauce. I love most of the fresh herbs the only exception is that I do not eat cilantro so I am always careful to let them know that.-I am one of those people that has the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap, so if I forget to ask that it be removed, it really ruins the dish for me. While you're here check out the different types of noodles and also the variations of rice. I have never ended up having a dish that I didn't enjoy. I also believe this is the most extensive menu I have ever seen. Pricing is very reasonable. The property is spotless. What are you waiting for??? Be sure to check it out next time you go a couple plus hours to the east!

Yelp
1. Service - friendly staff, attentive, and fast service. Order and Pay at the table. 2. Price - reasonably price. It's an average of $7-$8 for a Large bowl of pho here. 3. Ambiance - contemporary, beautifully decorated. Dress code is casual. 4. Food - The meat is tough, however the brothe is not bad. This is my second time here, and it was like that both times. I would come back, but just not a huge fan. 5. Cleanliness - clean dining area and restrooms. I like this place as they have a really good upkeep of both these areas.

Yelp
We are visiting from California and Pho Thanh Long was one of the best meals we had! Highly recommend pho and crispy stir fried noodles with seafood. The owners Thanh and Luyen and their entire staff treated us like family.

Yelp
Came here unexpectedly after picking up my parents from the reflexology place next door. Probably the busiest Pho place I've been to, I love seeing that! Employees were nice, prices were great and food was good. I took a picture of the Pho & lunch pages of the menu. For the 3 of us, our total came out to be $25. My dried egg noodle was really good, the small portion is generous and really filled me up. The smashed up peanuts added a nice touch to it. The decor of the restaurant is nice and simple. I can't wait to try out more things on the menu!

Yelp
The is my wife's favorite spot for vermicelli!!!!! The noodles are perfectly cooked to tenderness and never soggy, or too stale. The egg rolls are really good and crisp! You will be full after you finish this!!! I like the seafood dish on crispy noodles. The dish Os aesthetically pleasing to the eye as it is too my stomach !!! I just can't seem to eat it fast enough lol!!! The last time we were here I had the pork clay pot. I've honestly only previously had it as fish, and it was amazing as it was hot! I really like all the dishes that I've tried. The staff is really nice here as well! My drink never runs low, and I never feel rushed. They are really nice even as we have our 11 month old daughter
