The 16 Best Restaurants in Mountain View - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The first thing you’ll notice when you peruse the menu at Pho Tran Vu is the sheer volume of choices. With 10 kinds of rolls, 10 different chicken soups, and a whopping 19 kinds of beef soup to choose from, it might be hard to know what to get. A quick glance around the restaurant’s small, stylishly decorated dining room—and a whiff of the fragrant steam wafting from the bowls on each table—and it’ll be clear you can’t go wrong here. We like to start with the grilled shrimp and mango spring rolls, then move on to the gorgeously rich oxtail beef noodle soup, the savory seafood curry soup, or the comforting chicken congee." - gabi moskowitz

We were on a Costco run and it was near the lunch hour so we gave this place a try. The first thing that got my attention was that the table was heaped with stuff. (napkins, utensils for eating in place, utensils for take-away, condiments, tools --scissors) For a 2-top table it covers about 25% of the space. We ordered the #106? which offers a combination to top our bun. I was impressed with the quality of their shrimp and pork (nicely marinated and no unwanted parts like waste line from shrimp or gristle in pork). Service was friendly and quick.

Google
I came here on a whim because I was getting my car tinted nearby. I ordered the BBH #69 small and the bowl was definitely really small specially for the price... I wasn't too hungry, so I was able to finish it. I was also disappointed that for the price it didn't even have pork knuckles in it. Just some pork slices. The meat was also lower quality because it was really chewy. My husband got their chicken banh mi and they asked if he wanted pate and he said yes, but they failed to tell us that the pate was an extra $1!! Pate is a STAPLE in banh mi's, but yet it costs EXTRA to have it? I'm mainly upset that they didn't even tell us that it was an extra cost. I also ordered a Salted Lemon drink which was actually really good! Its taste reminded me a lot of my childhood. I think I would be back if I was nearby again and was craving soup, but otherwise I probably would skip this place since it is pretty expensive for SJ. There are much better pho places here and for cheaper.

Google
Got the pork banh mi sandwich. Was well cooked and prepared. Bread was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Google
This looks like a place that would be busy for the lunch crowd. We ordered a hu tieu, beef pho, cha gio and a spicy tangy seafood noodle soup. I think I prefer a simpler hu tieu with the darker sauce. The components were fine. My brother's pho had a bit more cinnamon than I prefer. Cha gio was crispy though I would have liked lettuce to wrap it with and a fish sauce not a ketchup with Chipotle. The Cafe su da was phin so it was fine, they accidentally made it iced but before it was put on the table, they microwaved it.

Alex Zepka

Google
The menu is extensive and the food is very tasty. But it is simply too expensive for what you get. 20 bucks for a plate of fried rice? And it wasn't even a very large one. Stick to a curry or pho and you may leave satisfied. The Asian music was a bit too loud for my taste. The outdoor seating area is adjacent to the Costco parking lot.

Google
I’ve been to this restaurant multiple times, and I usually stick to the classic rare beef pho. This time, I decided to try something different. The portion of meat was very generous, and there were several noodle options to choose from, which I appreciated. However, the quality of the beef was not as fresh as expected, which slightly diminished the overall experience. We also ordered the fried spring rolls, but they were overpriced for what we received. Unfortunately, this visit was particularly disappointing compared to my previous experiences. I hope the quality improves in the future.

Steve Kelem

Google
Very different dishes than you get at a restaurant serving only pho. The dishes were excellent, except for papaya salad, which looks beautiful, but wasn't anywhere as tasty as the other dishes.

Kyna Byrd

Google
This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the entire Bay Area. I drove here from San Francisco today because I missed it so much (I used to come more when I lived closer). My absolute favorite is the #74. Seriously, I think about this soup at least once a week.

Yelp
Good service, fast, reasonable price and in the same lot as Costco so it's perfect. Lots of parking spaces. Foods are good based on what I've ordered so far. Pho with rare beef. The oxtail side order is prepped just right. I wish there are two instead of one for a side order. The rice with Korean beef ribs are also very good! The drinks I ordered on two occasions are chanh muoi and xi muoi are very good!! Ambiance: First time was very loud due this one group about 12. Very loud, rude and acted like this is their own house instead of a restaurant. Many customers were annoyed by that but they are clueless and classless. "Money cannot buy class and etiquette" is a perfect saying with this group. The women dressed like street walker and they are in their 40-50s. Their English is worse than FOB, sad. I am embarrassed to say these people are Vietnamese. We are not like that. 2nd time I was there, it was great when that classless group was not there.

Yelp
We were craving Vietnamese food, but it was pretty late in the day. Most of the spots were closing in about 15 mins , then we discovered this place closes at 9:30pm. The interior is clean, modern looking, and inviting. The staff friendly and attentive. The menu was extensive, pretty much having something for everyone. Our meal started out well with their fresh spring rolls. The accompanying sauce was delicious, especially after being spiked up by the addition of the chili. However, the #118 entree I had was a bit underwhelming. The grilled pork lacked flavor and was thin. The egg cake was a bit on the small side. Moral of the story...try to eat earlier.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is delicious and what we ordered came out super fast. The big ass beef rib was was tender and hit the spot. The spring rolls equally delicious. Service was good, but could of been better. Getting a refill on drinks was a little tough. Ambiance for this restaurant was nice. Tables have all the condiments that you could ever wish for. But it dose make the Table a little crampt. But don't get me wrong, this place is always a favorite stop. Come check it out.

Yelp
The customer service is very nice and attentive. The food is not bad...but also not as authentic as I would've hoped. The staff are definitely Vietnamese but it's vastly lacking compared to most pho restaurants I've been to. I ordered the bun bo hue and the moment it was placed down I was already surprised to see the color, none of that ruby color whatsoever. But the taste is not bad, for maybe those who are trying bbh for the first time. I could not rly taste the lemongrass and most disappointing is I couldn't taste any of the shrimp paste at all. Perhaps no chili either?! Very much NOT aromatic for an originally rich dish. & It rly felt like looking for scraps of noodles in the bowl, I had maybe only 5 spoonfuls of noodles. The rest were sliced meats but not of good quality.... For bbh I prefer more noodles because the star is the broth. The rest of my family also said their dish was lackluster. It doesn't have the right base and spices as it would normally have. I looked at my husband's bo luc lac and even that didn't look like it usually does. Again, not bad. I think it's a good start for ppl not very familiar with Vietnamese food, but for those who are familiar, it leaves you wanting more in quality and quantity.

Yelp
Went here on sick day with my brother, we both ordered the Bon Bo Hue & Shrimp Spring Rolls with Peanut sauce. The Shrimp Spring rolls are Fresh and Good! The Bon Bo Hue is definitely a 10/10!

Yelp
This was my second time here, and I was not super impressed. On the menu it sounds like several of the vegetarian items should be easily veganized, but when I asked our server she said she was only sure about 92 (veggie pho) and the tofu spring rolls. She said 92 was good so I ordered it. The pho noodles and toppings themselves were delicious, but I found the clear broth to be extremely bland. I also found a dead mosquito in my broth. I understand these things happen and the workers were all really nice so I didn't say anything at the time, but now I kind of wish that I had.

Yelp
This was a 3.75 experience overall-- I was a fan of the portion size (pretty classic) and the cheaper cash option was a plus. Interior was fairly clean and staff were friendly and efficient. I got the beef belly pho and my only complaint was that the soup was a little saltier than I would've preferred-- definitely needed a lot of water with the meal. Otherwise, solid spot overall and nestled nicely in the Costco plaza in MV!

Yelp
Absolutely the best bang for your buck, generous portions and flavorful broth for the price cannot be beat! Excellent customer service staff are very nice and delighted to serve with a smile, definitely a must try!

Robert R.

Yelp
The overall rating is only considering food, not the service or price My opinions: - Grilled Pork Sandwich: (7/10 - Good) - Would be better with more veggies Wife's opinions: - Grilled Pork Sandwich: (6/10 - Fine) Other notes: - Got this as takeout

Yelp
Came here on a rainy day, and the food was really good and came out quickly. I got the a small pho with com tam and the portions were generous. Would recommend!

Yelp
This is my go to spot every time we come to Costco. It's in the shopping center next to the Ross. The food and service is always on point, but my order got messed up, but I still ate it. Overall this place is one of my favorite Pho spots. The garlic chicken wings here are fire and I highly recommended it.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
The service is great and they are super friendly, but I feel like I'm spoiled in San Jose because I feel like this place was good but it was a little bit pricey for what it was and I feel like you get a lot less food and flavor compared to places in San Jose
google avatar

Yasmine Q.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. A new pho spot opened on university in Palo Alto but i always make the pilgrimage to this little restaurant. The chili oil is made in house, and i always ask for the fresh noodle. Great service and honest food.
google avatar

Brett G.

Yelp
Surprisingly cozy and relaxing ambiance with a good amount of larger tables. Great value- about $20 for a huge bowl of pho. Lots of meat and the brother was flavorful. One of the top 10 Pho spots I've been to in the Bay - broth is great just a little less complex and oilier than I've had elsewhere. Will return.
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
A quaint little pho spot ! Like what another reviewer said, you know it's good when there's people willingg gg to eat outside in such a hot weather. Fast and friendly service as expected with these mom and pop places. I got the classic bon bo hue and it was delicious ! There's not a lot of places I can compare with pho places in LA so this really hit the spot. Overall: 9.5/10 recommend.
google avatar

Erika C.

Yelp
~3.5 stars for the pho and banh mi, rounded down since it really wasn't 4 for the food. I was looking for a place that had pho and banh mi that had cha lua in the area and found this place. Pho - noodles too soft, soup too sweet, oxtail too fatty. This was the 29House Special Beef Noodle Soup. Banh mi - pate tasted too strongly of iron, pork was too sweet. I wouldn't rule out eating their banh mi again but would do cha lua only with an egg. This was the 10Grilled Pork Sandwiches With Cha Lua Vietnamese Sausage. Friendly and fast staff during our quiet visit. Contemporary decor.

Olga O.

Yelp
It's definitely the best pho I've ever tried. Ask n32 and you will surprised. I always eat it without noodles because I adore just a broth It's very healthy and contains alotof collagen we actually need!!

Yelp
Located in the same plaza as Costco's Mountain View warehouse, Pho Tran Vu is a humble, local eatery offering a huge menu of Vietnamese dishes. My pick was the Banh Hoi Tom Thit Nuong, a plate of thin woven vermicelli, grilled marinated pork, shrimp, and fresh vegetables, including lettuce, mint, lettuce, daikon, and cucumbers, along with fish sauce on the side for dipping. The plate was set up to make delicious lettuce wraps with the vermicelli, grilled meats, and herbs. I also sampled the pho broth, which was laden with MSG. In general, everything we had was decent, though not at the peak of freshness. The prices were high for what we got, and the restaurant could have been cleaner, but the service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
Truly the worst restaurant I have been to in the Bay Area. We ordered a Pad Thai for our party with no bean sprouts and no spice. Over 30 minutes passed and we didn't receive it. When we asked someone for it he put it in and said it was coming. But when we paid the lady upfront argued with me and said we never ordered the Pad Thai. Woman we have three whole witnesses who saw us ALL order the pad thai. $70 with no tip--and for disgusting food, meat was so bland, we didn't finish any of our meals. Absolutely horrid experience, we will never recommend anyone to come here. I'm pretty sure their food is all old and stocked in the back because everything was cold. Never coming back. Save your money.
google avatar

Dang N.

Yelp
The food here overall is solid. I've had a couple things and no complaints. The service is extremely attentive. Some of the most attentive service I've ever gotten at a Vietnamese place. And they give a 10% military discount!
google avatar

Cheryl L.

Yelp
I passed by this place for a decade while shopping at Costco. I finally decided to try it out. I'm so glad that I did. Food is delicious. I had the rare steak pho. My companion had the free range chicken sour and spicy soup. He said it was one of the best soups that he has ever had. We also had the chicken spring rolls which were really delicious. Dipping sauce was Nuoc Nam Sauce instead of a peanut sauce. Bathrooms were ok but they keep a stockpile in the gender neutral bathroom. I was surprised that it was pretty busy in there. There were at least 3 families and 5 singles eating there at 7 pm on a Tuesday night. Highly recommend and it will be in the pho rotation!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice restaurant and the food is good but little pricey. Service is good too. Place is kinda small but with good ambiance.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Located in Mountain View, parking is plentiful and easy to find. The surrounding is pretty nice as there's a Costco and Krispy Kreme. The interior is a bit small but makes good use of the space. Noise level was pretty average but it was quite busy. House Special Beef Noodle Soup (4/5): super flavorful. The meat was tender and chewy. I enjoyed the thin slices of brisket. I wish the oxtail was a bit more cooked though. Tap to pay is accepted. Overall Pho Tran Vu is a great pho place. The food is pretty good, but it does get pretty busy during peak hours.
google avatar

Papu T.

Yelp
My second time being here with my fam and I think it's safe to say this is our new favorite spot to come by after a 49ers game. The food is delicious and the staff is are always so nice! Perfect distance from the Mountain View Caltrain station you can't go wrong with stopping by and having yourself a hot bowl of pho! 10/10 recommend!!
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
Best pho I've had anywhere BY A MILE! The broth is so rich and savory, really great if you're feeling under the weather or something. Servers also seem to remember me because I go there pretty often, which is nice.
google avatar

Mona B.

Yelp
Today I try a... Crab and Shrimp with Udon Soup. Delicious OMG You guys need to come this amazing restaurant and try everything
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Pretty good Pho. Pho is good pretty much everywhere but something about theirs is better. The broth much more flavorful. Comfortable place and they also had TVs on playing the football and basketball games which I loved and didn't expect. All ingredients were fresh and clean. Service super quick. Definitely would and will return.
google avatar

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
I ordered egg rolls, bun rieu, and a sweet and sour seafood noodle soup for takeout. It was ready within 10-15 minutes. Total was a little under $50. My complaint is that the bun rieu didn't have any crab, and the pork slices that were included were dry. The broth I realize is actually really salty and MSG-y too and makes me really thirsty. The cha gio egg rolls were good though.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
I come to this restaurant at least 1 a week. I like the food and staff. That is why I gave 3 star. I am an Uber driver. I always recommended this restaurant to my customers, who came into the Bay Area for work and stayed nearby the restaurant. However, I won't come back. I finished my meal this evening after a long day of driving. I didn't even get a chance to drink the water. The waitress (she is new) came over with credit card machine, forcing me to pay. It was a hint to get me out. I paid and gave 25% tip. However, There were no customers waiting. Yes I was watching a movie on my phone, but was not planning to stay long. Just need a little time to unwind. Forcing paid customer to leave but allowed homeless guy to sit outside at one of the tables. I love California but sometimes I just don't get it. Homeless is more valuable than paying customers.
google avatar

TY S.

Yelp
You know a pho restaurant is good when it's still poppin when it's 90 degrees and people are willing to sit outside to eat. My friend and I went here for lunch and ordered two bowls of their house special pho with wide flat noodles along with two Vietnamese coffees. The broth was so hearty, but light and clean tasting at the same time. The bowls of pho also came with so much meat it was WILD because I was basically eating meat the entire time and was barely able to eat any of my noodles after. Their chili oil is also AMAZING..it had a unique smokey flavor to it and I couldn't stop adding it to my meat. This place is family owned so I could tell they really put extra love and care into all of their food. The servers were hustling to get all the orders out and always made sure everyone was taken care of too. Definitely a go to spot for viet food for me now!
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
Sooo good! I miss authentic viet food soo much. The broth was SO good and fragrant with lemon grass, green onion, and cilantro. The grilled chicken was juicy and flavorful. Although a bit greasy. The grilled chicken spring roll was yummy also! Super friendly and speedy service. Def will support if in the area again.
google avatar

Ken C.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised I got take out from here and tried their rare steak and brisket pho. They packaged all the ingredients individually and gave me plenty of sprouts, basil, and jalapeños. They also provided condiments and lemon/lime. The meat was tender and the broth was savory. Large is LARGE. Their bahn mi is solid too. Prices very reasonable and they make the food quickly.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
A solid option for pho, bun, or rice dishes. This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Service is quick and friendly, but no frills. I've come here for lunch after a hike or for a quick dinner with friends and this spot has consistently been a solid option.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
I was in town for work and had lunch here and absolutely loved it. I had vermicelli noodle with chicken and egg roll. The chicken was grilled perfectly. So tasty. Some of the best I've ever had. Tu was my server and she was great too! Very kind and friendly. I will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Lunch here is great. Plenty of seatings, fast service and delicious food. I enjoy their rib bone pho special.

Yelp
Was craving some Vietnamese food after a 2 week vacation and drinking the night before at NKOTB at Shoreline. Good pho and I've eaten a lot of pho. This place rivals my some of my favorite spots in San Jose! Came in for a late lunch and we were the only diners. The male server was nice. The food came out quickly. I got a bowl with different cuts of beef and tripe with fresh noodles! I love tripe and I've noticed a lot of pho places stopped offering it. There was a good meat to noodle ratio. The broth was not too salty, not too oily, and I happily slurped it up after I finished up the meat and noodles. The veggies were fresh. I thought the prices were reasonable for the amount of meat given. They didn't rush us to pay after we were done eating - even though they were closing early for the Fourth of July.
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
Love coming here when I'm craving pho and ordering the seafood pho and the fresh shrimp rolls. Everything is fresh and delicious and the portions and prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Ivette A.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Sunday evening around 5pm. The restaurant had plenty of seats and booths inside. There were actually a lot of people there at the time almost all tables were taken. We got seated right away and both servers had a great positive attitude. They checked in multiple times to make sure everything was alright. We had the chicken broth noodle only pho and the beef ball pho. Super tasty! They accept cards and cash As far as cleanliness - it was pretty clean. The only issue I had was the hallway to the restroom- they use it as storage but that area isn't well kept. Restroom is unisex but very clean and tidy They also have seating areas outside .
google avatar

Yikai L.

Yelp
A must after Mountain View Costco shopping. Pretty busy after 6pm but easy to get a table. Used to provide a free chicken wing for kids but no more :'( Beef noodle soup 29 or 32 (with a giant beef rib) was a must every time. Banh mi and spicy & sour seafood noodle soup also tasty.

Yelp
TLDR: Decent Viet near Costco. I like the environment... nice plush seats, no sticky floor. It's a good place to eat. I wouldn't say the food is outstanding, especially when you compare to Little Saigon where I live. But it's good. My wife was dissuaded from ordering her chicken with dark meat. She said that breast meat is usually dry, but the waitress quickly re-assured her that "theirs is cooked moist". No... it wasn't. Still kinda dry. Wife also ordered the vermicelli instead of the usual pho rice noodle. She said it was good. The Chicken Broth was just... ok. I'm more of a chicken eater than a pork eater (Gout). So I was a little little bit dismayed that their is so many more options for pork rice dishes than chicken. Pork had options for egg rolls, shredded pork skin, egg cake, etc. Chicken had... Chicken and shrimp or grilled chicken. DISAPPOINTED! So I ordered the grilled pork, because I wanted to try their variety. The egg cake and pork skin were decent, about the same as other places. The grilled pork was cooked unevenly. Some parts were nice and juicy... some of the thinner parts were dry. I like their broken rice, they give quite a bit. Their pickled veggies are a bit spicy? Which is a bit of a surprise to us. Overall, nothing special. It's a step above the Viet Chain Restaurants. If we do go back, it'll only be because we want to eat somewhere near Costco.

Alex L.

Yelp
There is a hidden service charge and extra fee if you order Togo The food is good though........

Patty C.

Yelp
Consistently good pho. And i like the option to add an extra beef rib to any bowl of pho. Shrimp and mango salad are tasty too. I
google avatar

Hieu D.

Yelp
Pho Tran Vu is my new local go to spot for great Viet food! Not only do they have amazing pho, I also really like getting their grilled chicken salad (so much protein for the gainz) and their Hu Tieu Nam Vang. YUM! They always treat me so well and it's a very friendly and cozy environment. You have a regular for sure now!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
delicious food but pretty pricey pho: we got the signature pho that had a sampling of all the meats, was pretty disappointed with the oxtail- was pretty tough while i feel like so many other places make oxtail fall off the bone overall very nice and hit the spot shrimp spring roll: generous shrimp portion, can't go wrong tip: sit inside since the outside tables don't have branded sriracha bottles at the moment
google avatar

April Y.

Yelp
Came just based on Google search/reviews, and was pleasantly surprised. Portions are huuuge. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Inside is pretty small, classic pho spot. Definitely became one of my favorite pho spots in the bay.
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
I ordered the House Special Beef Noodle Soup, which included a variety of ingredients such as rare steak, tripe, flank, fatty brisket, tendon, and oxtail. The flavors were decent and each component was well-prepared.
google avatar

Thanh T.

Yelp
Was craving Viet food so came here with my friend. She got a rice dish that was pretty good. I got Bun Bo Hue! It was delicious, weirdly no pork hock in it. Also it was $18! I guess those are peninsula prices. It's convenient and good, but price wise I'd go else where if I didnt mind leaving the area.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
Really good pho, got #38 and was not disappointed. Quick service and everything you need at the table.
google avatar

Yelp
Pho Tran Vu is in the Costco/Total Wine complex, adjacent to Hwy 101, so just drive into the parking lot and you'll find it. Menu is extensive with plenty of sections that go beyond your typical Pho Viet cuisine, including fried rice, udon, and Bahn Mi. We ordered: House Special Beef Noodle Soup... bear in mind, this is really just a combo Pho soup with rare steak. The rice noodles are thicker in width and ribbon style, which I like alot. Lots of rare steak included, more than the usual 4-5 strips. There was even a cross section of oxtail that was tender and delicious. For Pho soups, this is right up there among the best and unique. Garlic Fried Chicken Soggier than it should be, but still good. The sauce is a little sweet, and 5 or 6 wings sit on a bed of shredded cabbage. Crush ground beef congee The rice grains itself were excellent, but I thought there was way too much dried garlic bits and shallots overwhelming the dish. The beef (extremely tasty) appeared in small bites and grounded bits. Location is Food was prepared in average time and they brought me a free iced tea while I waited. I'll definitely return for the Bahn Mi at some point. that's all
