This was our first meal after having landed into Portland and just having checked in to our hotel just a block away. My first impression was, cool place!....have always loved these urban industrial conversions turned into cool modern designed restaurants or stores, so was pretty impressed by the interior decor and ambiance.
It was already a little past the normal lunch hour, but the place still had a pretty decent crowd, so not only was there not much of line to place our order at the front counter, it was easy to find a nice open table by the window.
We really had a craving for the fried crispy rolls, but thought it'd be too much to order a separate dish, so went ahead and ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Bowl with noodles (choice of noodles, jasmine rice, or brown rice)....which normally already comes with the pork rolls, but we asked to have it substituted with chicken rolls instead.....just to try something different. Besides the bowl, we thought the Lemongrass Banh Mi sandwich sounded good so went with that. After placing our order at the counter, we paid, were given a number to place on the table, and went to find a seat.
My girlfriend and I were very impressed with the quality of the food and service here.....the servers were very friendly and attentive. I really can't find anything bad to say about the food.....the lemongrass chicken was grilled well, tasted delicious, and went so well with just a controlled splash of fish sauce. And those chicken rolls...wonderful crisp with the authentic rice wrapper.....not the Chinese egg roll type.... .yummee good! The Banh Mi sandwich was also very good.....loved the French bread that had a perfect outer crunch and soft fluffy inside.....the chicken again, grilled to delicious perfection......Yummee again!
This place serves up solid Vietnamese food.....food prep is quick, service is friendly and helpful.....nice modern ad casual ambiance. Will definitely be back the next time we are visiting Portland.
