The 19 Best Restaurants In Pittsburgh 2024

"At this casual Vietnamese restaurant in the Strip District, you’ll find punny pop art posters on the walls, including one that says “Pho King Delicious.” We really appreciate their dedication to the puns, almost as much as we appreciate their phở with a rich broth that’s been simmered for days. This family-run establishment has a variety of soupy dishes with just as many proteins like tripe, meatballs, and sliced beef, along with a great chicken phở. Beyond the soup, try some grilled plates, like chicken teriyaki, which are also full of flavor and make for great leftovers to eat throughout the week. Have lunch here before spending the rest of the day exploring all the shops and grocers in the neighborhood. " - elaine zedack, quayla allen

We came next door to the candy shop originally, it was around dinner time and we were getting hungry. Pho sounded really good to me so we decided to give this place a try. We started off sharing fresh pork belly rolls. I had a peach refresher which had peach pulp in it. My husband had a chai tea. I ordered the supreme pho and my husband ordered Chicken Pad Thai. The hot dishes came out piping hot! We both tried each other’s dishes and everything was absolutely delicious! I saved this place so when we are back in the area we can come again. It was all amazing!!

Coming from a person that LOVES Vietnamese food, this place has delicious Pho! The broth was so flavorful. Brisket was cooked perfectly. Meatballs in the broth soaked up the juices and it was fabulous. This was the best Pho I had in awhile. I worked at a Vietnamese restaurant in college and that was the best Pho I have ever had… this place is very close if not just as good. I had Pho in Seattle that is similar to this restaurant. This is a Gem of a place in Pittsburgh! Highly recommend :)) service was also pleasant with mainstream music. I’m more of a gospel girl myself, but the music was appropriate.

Pho Van is a hidden gem of Vietnamese cuisine you simply can’t miss in Pittsburgh! Located at 2120 Penn Avenue, Pho Van offers not only convenience but also truly impressive flavors. The beef pho has a rich, savory broth with a deep aroma, perfectly paired with tender noodles—every bite is unforgettable. The fresh spring rolls are crisp and refreshing, with dipping sauce that’s just right. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make it the perfect spot whether you’re craving a taste of home or exploring authentic Vietnamese food. Come once, and you’ll understand why it’s considered one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Pittsburgh!

Google
I’m slightly obsessed with pho, and this place definitely didn’t disappoint! I ordered the Brisket Pho with extra noodles (because I just can’t resist!), and it was everything I hoped for—rich, flavorful, and comforting. My friend also got the pork & shrimp dumplings to share, which were absolutely scrumptious! The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and charming. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

We ordered the stir fried vegetables rice with , the papaya salad, and the tofu banh mi — all three dishes included tofu, and unfortunately, it was overfried, hard, rubbery, and so sharp it actually hurt my gums when chewing(I’ve attached a photo) The stir fried vegetables rice was extremely sweet and drenched in syrupy sauce and barely had any vegetables It just had like 3 mushrooms 2 broccoli and 2 pieces of carrot and the papaya salad had no flavor at all but that wasn’t papaya salad. This used to be such a great spot, but the quality has really gone downhill.

Google
My girlfriend and I tried this place today for lunch! We both were in the mood for pho, and this place was great! We ordered the cucumber salad as a light appetizer and we both really enjoyed the dressing and the crispness of the cucumbers. My girlfriend ordered the beef fried rice which she enjoyed, and I got the chicken pho which hit the spot after I put some siracha in it. We also shared the mango sticky rice which we loved. Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food were top notch and I’d recommend this place. We went at a weird time, I’d imagine, since it’s a small place that it gets claustrophobic during a meal rush time.

Food was so good!! Had a brisket pho and fresh shrimp rolls! Emily (our server) was so nice and really a great server. Food came out so quick! Thank you pho van Pittsburgh!

Google
One of the best spots for Pho! Great Pho with Brisket and cheese wonton. Passion fruit with mango bubble tea was amazing! Good atmosphere and good costumer service. If you’re lucky you’ll find a parking spot out front.

Yelp
Walked over to the strip since it was beautiful cool night. Pho Van was busy for Sunday dinner. Ordered carry out at kiosk (then browsed candy shop next door). Chicken pho so-so broth, meat was plenty, hubs liked his mango boba. The winner was che dessert- came in tall cup filled with ice; fun mixing it & crunching thru layers of bean, jelly & coconut cream. Place is small, bit cramped so glad we did carry out, super friendly service (by family owners).

Yelp
Do you love broth? Need something warm on those cold days? Pho Van offers one of the biggest bowls of Pho I have ever seen! If you are from Pittsburgh then it is one of the better Phos you can get. Compared to the other Phos I have eaten, it is good but not amazing. Regardless, the bowl is MASSIVE. Despite the amount of broth, it is not watered down at all. Each sip is packed nicely with beef flavors. My only qualm was that I wish there was more brisket, but that could be the illusion of the soup to noodles and meat ratio. Place is small, and clean. They offer drinks but I did not have any. I heard they were good. Summer rolls are good with the peanut sauce, can't go wrong with them if you like shrimp! Overall a good spot I'd go again for good eats.

Yelp
I recently ordered takeout from Pho Van. I ordered online and my order was ready for pickup about 15-20 min later. I ordered the seafood soup and a passion fruit refresher drink mango boba. Everything is packaged great for takeout. The soup itself had a great flavor and it was really filling. My refresher was not too sweet and the perfect addition to my soup. Inside, the place is not very large but it was filled up on a Sunday evening.

Yelp
Great food, large variety to choose from and clean atmosphere. Service is decent too. Small tables, but they suffice.

Yelp

Yelp
Hubby and I were walking the Strip District and found this place with a few vegan options. I ordered the vegan phó, which was excellent! Hubby had the vegan fried rice. It was fairly bland...hence only 4 stars. The place was very nice, and the staff was friendly. Service was good. It was easy to walk into for Valentine's Day.

Yelp
Had a lovely bahn mi sandwich and dinner with friends. Service was friendly and I'd go again if I was in the area.

Yelp
Good pho I would say! Huge portion! The mango sticky rice was not what I'm used to. It wasn't the best honestly. My friend had the teriyaki dish and she thought it would be different but regardless, the chicken was good. The place is nothing fancy but I don't mind that. Service wise, the waitress was nice. But would I come again? I think not really. It was good pho but not like out of this world and the mango sticky rice was a bummer which I usually love everywhere.

Yelp
Decent pho in Pittsburgh, nice sitting, good service but they could do better like add more meat or more noodle in pho bowl so people could feel full. Happy to find a Vietnamese restaurant though other than thân no complaints
google avatar

Yelp
This might be the best packed Togo I've ever purchased. Restaurant seating was clean and casual. Food was fast!

Yelp
I will always love this place. Came here again ofc. I ordered the cucumber garlic salad which was sooooo good! Had a Mild sweet dressing which balanced the onions& garlic. I will forever order this each time I'm there. For entree, I had the Pork with fried rice with extra side pickled veggie. I thoroughly enjoy Pho Van. Excited to try more on their menu

Yelp
Came in with a group for a late dinner on Monday night and we were seated right away. Our server was polite and attentive. She took our orders promptly and the food was out in about 15 minutes. Two of the group ordered pho- one vegan and one rib eye. I ordered a beef vermicelli bowl. Everything was great. The pho came out steaming hot with all of the toppings to add. The vermicelli bowl was fresh. The vegetables were crunchy, and the crispy pork roll was flavorful. The decor in the space is adorable! Tons of pho puns hanging all around. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. The meal was well worth the money. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
i enjoyed my dinner here! The food was excellent and the service was great. The bathroom was very clean and the table was as clean as well.

Yelp
I like that my takeout was packed nicely. By the time it was delivered to me, the broth was a little cold though. There were a lot of tendons in my tendon pho. The flavor was good. I wish there was an option to get some meat with half the tendons. Overall it's a pretty solid takeout option. I would order again.

Yelp
A New Year's Eve tradition we have been doing for years is venturing out for some pho for dinner. The past two years we came here. When we arrived the dinning room was empty. We were promptly seated and given water. Within a few minutes of looking over their menu more patrons started filtering in. We already knew what we were getting as it is the tradition. We ordered the vegan pho and the tofu summer rolls. I could eat a truck load of summer rolls. I absolutely love them and always ask for Thai chili paste to eat them with. The peanut sauce is too sweet for me. Mixing the two together can be quite tasty. Food came out quickly. The Pho was good. It's definitely a different taste than more traditional phos that include meat, it does lack that complexity. However, I am happy for the vegan version, and they do a great job taming the sodium, it was not too salty like some phos can be. The toppings which I use all of them, helped make the dish quite tasty. The rolls were delicious as usual. A little pricey for pho but everything is pricey now so it is what it is. I definitely will keep coming back.

Yelp
Casual, cute decor. Nice little spot to come in from the busyness of the strip district. The service was very nice and attentive. The food came out quickly and was VERY flavorful! I now love pho! Pad thai was also very good. We will be back!

Yelp
The food was decent but honestly I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary. Would probably go again if I had nothing else around but there are better places for Vietnamese.
google avatar

Yelp
The best pho in town!! Was craving some late night pho and we Order the supreme pho comes with beef meatballs, steak, tendon and tripe... my husband couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was.
google avatar

Tori Y.

Yelp
The pho here is most definitely a step above your average pho place. Especially coming from an area with a lot of Asian food, this place was super authentic and delicious. I'm not sure why the average rating is 3.8 because this place is so much better than that. On top of that, the KINDNESS of the servers is top notch. On request, they gave us an extra side bowl of the brisket pho-- with broth, noodles, and meat-- for FREE. We were expecting them to charge us at least $5, but no! I wish I was a Pittsburgh local so I could come back here every week. Also, their broth deserves an AWARD on its own! I could tell they make it from scratch. If you're in the area, don't skip this place!

Yelp
Delicious food, cute spot, attentive service. Went on a date night with hubby and it was the right decision!

Yelp
I used to order from here a bit when I lived in Shadyside and really enjoyed it. I moved to Bellevue, Wa for almost a year and had Pho there, which is known to have really good Pho, and I think Pho Van is competitive with what I had there. Went in person recently a couple of times and it is even better in store. The broth is just fantastic. Banh Mi is also super good. I never had an issue with service myself when I went in.
google avatar

Janet T.

Yelp
I genuinely enjoy the food here, coming from someone who knows how to cook Vietnamese food and growing up with my mom's home-cooked Viet food! What's even better is the atmosphere - the family running the business has brought so much life to the restaurant! I just moved back to Pittsburgh recently, so seeing this restaurant come to life has been such a pleasure. Will be back for sure! P.S. Viets love our veggies, and they always give so much!

Yelp
This is my go to for pho. They have a vegan option that is delicious. Great place to stop by for lunch or after yoga in the evening.

Yelp
The vibes are great in this place and they have really nice outdoor seating. The server was super sweet and let us choose where we wanted to sit in. The music was also really great some fire song choices. my friend and I split the chicken Pho and it was a big portion and it was FIRE. best pho i've had in pittsburgh. Omg but then we got the mango sticky rice, and we were floored. It was the best thing ever like are you kidding me. I can't wait to go back and watch the coconut cream off that mango sticky rice
google avatar

Yelp
I can't find a better beef pho that this in the PIT area. When I want pho, I go out of my way to go here. Also service is great.
google avatar

Yelp
My go-to quick and casual spot in the Strip. Grab a bahn mi to-go to eat while you walk Penn or sit down and enjoy pho with friends before you go axe throwing. Pho Van has an abundance of vegan and vegetarian options, allowing for a variety of choices for even those with dietary restrictions. Vegan broth can be a hard find, so I was beyond excited to see it on the menu.

Yelp
Once again, if you have "Pho" in your name. I hope you got your pho broth down. But sadly it is not the case for Pho Van. This establishment is catered more toward the American palette and there is nothing wrong with that. But if you want to get authentic pho, I recommend trying a different place. I stop by for dinner after a busy day at work. Wanted to get my basic pho tai bo vien but it was no longer an option. It was either pho tai (beef) or pho dac biet (supreme) or get the pho tai and get bo vien as a side for $5 more. So for the price of $16, I was getting about 4 alices lf eyeround cut, not even tenderloin. The broth was missing the soul (the richness of the bone flavour broth) I had to add hoisin and siracha (which you should never have to add to a good bowl of pho). I was still quite hungry afterward. My coworker ordered the bun thit nuong and received an adequate portion and was quite satisfied with his meal. But I left wanting more. The service was pretty fast and courteous. If you are here give the other menu items a try and avoid the pho.

Dj N.

Yelp
This place has delicious food. I like the wonton noodles soup and ribs, duck fried rice, crab Rangoon, soft shell crab, and phó. I heard that the Pho Van owner (Steve) used to own Taipei Fox Chapel and he brought his experience from Taipei to this restaurant. Since he took over Pho Van, the food here is unbelievably delicious. I highly recommend this place. Their staff is super friendly. In addition, this restaurant is clean compared to other Vietnamese restaurants

Vern U.

Yelp
We just had takeout for our office today. Food was excellent!! I don't have an opinion on price since the company paid for it!!! I would order again from them.

Yelp
The reasons I stop by this place , because my son go to university of Pittsburgh, my wife and I try couple times there. We liked it a lot. Must recommended and friendly staffs.

Cesca D.

Yelp
First time eating here for a friend and I after a lot of shopping in the strip district. We were seated immediately after walking in and our waitress was very attentive. My friend (who's not originally from Pittsburgh) loves pho so that's what brought us here. It was also her first time having a mango milk boba tea and she said "I just love this drink!" I ordered a mango smoothie with lychee which was delicious. We both ordered spring rolls for an appetizer and she had the pho while I had the chicken pad thai. Everything was delicious!
google avatar

Sara Z.

Yelp
This was the first time we actually ate inside the restaurant and we were really pleasantly surprised! Ambiance and decor is ok, they played a lot of 2000s music hahaha. It's a family owned restaurant and they were all really sweet and nice. The pho broth tasted very good but I always love adding extra siracha and Hoisen sauce. Bahn mi bread was meh but overall the sandwich was very yummy. Not the cheapest but I was really satisfied after the meal and would def come back!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
One of the best Vietnamese cuisine in Pittsburgh. The food was spectacular, off the charts. Their pho broth is infused with flavorful ingredients. The two ladies that served us were very nice and fast. Best Vietnamese in town!!
google avatar

Megan Y.

Yelp
This place is really good! We have a hard time finding good food in Pittsburgh, but this place is really great. The server, I believe her name is Kim, is really sweet and kind. The service was fast, even though it was busy. The food came out very hot, fresh, and flavorful. It seemed like we everyone around us was enjoying their food as well!

Samantha M.

Yelp
Whoever made my pho yesterday 12/21/24, I just want you to know that it was so immaculately delicious that it changed my entire day around & made it 1000 times better. I ate it for lunch and dinner yesterday, and then breakfast again this morning. The broth is the absolute perfect flavor. Please never change your recipe, this is the only spot with the perfect pho - and since I don't live in Pittsburgh, I rarely get to have it.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Stop in for lunch while I was shopping in strip district. The food and services was great. Wec had bún bò Huế ( spicy beef noodles), hu tiếu mi ( wonton noodles) , com suong nướng ( grill port chop rice )with extra Sunday side up egg & bánh mì ( Vietnamese hoagie). They were all very delicious and satisfying. Thank you for the great food and services. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Manuela W.

Yelp
I recently visited this restaurant and really wanted to like their pho. But I didn't care for it at all. It was probably the worst pho I ever tasted. I ordered the pho with Tofu and it had a rather sweet taste. Furthermore I had the fried tofu appetizer which was good but not great. Definitely not a place a will revisit. The waiter was friendly. The restaurant was small and lacked ambiance. Very plain. Fried TofuVegan Pho

Yelp
This was a decent spot for Vietnamese food in Pittsburgh! They have a pretty large menu. It even had Thai food on it. My friends liked their boba a lot. I really liked the banh mi and I had the grilled chicken one. It had really good flavor and I liked how the carrots and daikon were lightly pickled in it. My friend who had the fried soft shell crab liked theirs too but it wasn't good leftover food since the bread got soggy and hard at the same time and old fried food isn't the best. The pho broth was good! The pho here is definitely on the pricier side but the bowls are pretty big. I wish they had size options so you can get a smaller one if you can't eat that much pho. This place has a decent amount of seating inside and the service is pretty fast. It seems like a family operated business too. The ambiance inside isn't the best but it was definitely nice to not be outside since it was really hot. Would definitely check this place out if you're craving Vietnamese food!
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
We had a very nice lunch here - the food was tasty, service was good - my only complaint would be that the guys I was with ordered lime aid and a mango juice and they were $6.50 each! Yikes. If I had seen the price on the menu (they said there wasn't any pricing) I probably would have told them to get water. Our lunch for 3 was over $80 - a little steep for me.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
Pho Van is probably the best pho in Pittsburgh! Coming from SF, I was worried I'd have a hard time finding good pho as it is one of my favorite foods. Luckily I stumbled upon this place and never looked back! The quality and serving size are both great!!! They have outdoor seating and it's clean and neat inside. The workers are polite and they have Wi-Fi! I would highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Coming from WA, where pho joints are abundant and mostly delicious, I was ecstatic to find Pho Van while perusing the shops in the strip district. The place is on the smaller side but getting a table was no issue even though it was very busy. The servers were extremely nice and attentive. The spring rolls were tasty. The pho broth was literally one of the best I've ever had - and I've had a lot. I almost asked to buy broth to go but I did not. The only negative thing I have to say is that the prices are high. Will that deter me from eating here? No, but I might second guess spending that much money on soup.

Yelp
I have finally found my Nirvana... After moving to Pennsylvania 8 months ago I was having serious Vietnamese food withdrawals. Coming from Los Angeles I have very high standards with all food especially Vietnamese. We got to Pho Van on a late Saturday afternoon around 3:30 and we still had a 10 minute wait. Lucky for us it wasn't too cold so we waited patiently until we got our table. A quick drink order and it was time to check out the menu and make our decisions. We ordered a few appetizers of fried shrimp rolls and the fresh summer rolls. It was love at first bright, the summer rolls were so refreshing and the dipping sauce was absolutely perfect. The shrimp rolls were hot and fresh with a side of Mae Ploy sauce. Next out were our entrees, Grilled pork chop rice for my son, the grilled shrimp Bun bowl for the wife and a grilled pork Banh mi to go along with my pork and shrimp noodles (don't judge me). First off my son's pork chops were cooked and spiced perfectly and came with a fantastic homemade fish sauce. My wife's Bun bowl must have been good because I barely got a picture before she dove into it head first ( I didn't even get offered a taste). All her ingredients too were fresh and plentiful with the shrimp grilled to perfection. I did get her egg roll though since she is on a no fried food diet and I must say it was one of the best I have ever had. It was completely packed with meat and it was so juicy and crispy, absolutely amazing. My Banh Mi was also very good, the pork grilled and spiced to perfection the vegetables and herbs so fresh and snappy and the bread nicely crisp and soft at the same time. My bowl of pork & shrimp noodles was so good. The broth was chicken I believe but was so deep and rich without being overly fatty, lots of noodles and shrimp all with a side of fresh herbs as well. Overall the service was a little slow but they had limited waitresses for a completely packed restaurant. The prices were a little higher than I expected but o.k for what you got. What you got was absolutely amazing Vietnamese food with good portion size and to me that all adds up to a definite win, Aloha

Yelp
Pho Van is a nice little shop in the Pittsburgh strip district. Recently, I was there on a school field trip and decided to eat here. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. The lady working there was very kind even when the restaurant got very busy. I would definitely recommend going here if you're in Pittsburgh and you're hungry.

Monday Z.

Yelp
They have severe food safety issues here. Bad symptoms happens including enterospasm after I consumed the food here. They treated kept lying to me, didn't apologize for the situation, and say they cannot do anything but wait. After I contacted them, one of the girls answering the phone first said the manager is busy, a while later she said she herself is also one of the managers. And she also said the first manager I spoke with didn't hear anything regarding my request about the complaint, but I did convey the request clearly. They said they won't compensate anything for the situation. According to the Health Department inspection report, they had lots of violation earlier. My advice to the restaurant is that make your kitchen cleaner so your customers won't have severe illness after having the food from you, and don't treat your customers like they are fool.

Teri W.

Yelp
I ate for the first time at Pho Van, Pittsburgh Strip District, last weekend. I reviewed the gluten free options on the menu with the server. I asked three different times, are you sure this is completely gluten free and was assured it was. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Teriyaki with steam rice. After eating the meal, I immediately started experiencing symptoms from gluten intake. By the end of the evening, I had five hours of intense G.I. issues. I am on day 3, and still in a lot of G.I. pain. I have had Celiac Disease for 9 years and eat completely gluten free. I have never experienced a reaction like this. The most I have ever had from a possible cross contamination is a slight flatulence. I am guessing, the meal was not prepared gluten free. I highly suggest not eating at this restaurant if you have Celiac Disease.

Yelp
Excellent tofu bahn mi sandwich! We got take out so I can't speak to the vibe of the dining room. However, the food was ready on time. The sauce was one of the better sauces in had in the city. The vegetables were cut snd pickled nicely with lots of fresh cilantro. One thing to keep an eye out for is that they put a little bit of mayo on the sandwiches. Not mad about it, but it's not typical of a bahn mi so wanted to mention it.
