Best Pho Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"This cash-only Asiatown strip mall restaurant is known for its flavor-packed broths and real durian ice cream. Open for more than 15 years, the restaurant attributes its success to the quality of its ingredients. Pho Ve Dem translates to “phở by night” and that’s because, unlike other phở spots that are open for breakfast and lunch, it is open only in the evening hours, and until as late as 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays." - Minh Truong

Pho Ve Dem is a 5 star gem! Their iced tea is spot on refreshing, the broth boasts deep rich flavors, and the Vietnamese eggrolls are superbly crispy and delicious. Note: it’s cash only, so come prepared!

Phở Về Đêm on Bellaire is a clean and welcoming spot that immediately makes a good impression. I ordered the small bowl of phở and was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portion wứa: enough to satisfy my hunger. The broth is rich and flavorful, packed with plenty of meat, and what I really appreciate is that it doesn’t have an overpowering smell of star anise or cinnamon, which I personally find overwhelming in some other places. This version tastes just like traditional Vietnamese phở, comforting and well-balanced. Prices are very reasonable, and it’s definitely a great go-to for a tired evening or a late-night food fix. Highly recommended!

It was our first time here. Such a blessing that they stay open late. Parking is very limit and the service takes a bit time. The potion and noodles were perfect but the broth was so dark and salty.

The elderly man at the cashier with the glasses is superrrr nice and the woman with the short bob haircut is amazing . The food is BOOM 🥰the meat wasn’t uncooked like I wanted but everything else was great . Most definitely will be back ❤️

Google
Good Pho at night, good price but cash only so bring some cash with you. Open late, always crowded. Parking is limited, but you can park next by the mall and walk to the restaurant. $13 large size bowl, $14 for XL size bowl after taxes. And try durian ice cream, too. It's delicious.

Google
The pho was super good especially for a late night meal. The severs were amazing and the people taking our order were super nice. But the old man behind the cashier was amazingly rude. Yes I get it only cash and zelle but he didn't have to be rude yell and point at us like we were stupid. If you don't want to work then go home.

Google
First time eating pho noodle this late. On weekday they open until 1am and on Saturday, they open until 2am. Went there with my Dad and Wife for a late dinner. It was pretty good for pho that late. The broth beef ball, stripe, beef and pickle onion was good. Definitely a place to be if you feel like having a later pho noodle. 2 small bowls and 1 large bowl is $38. Oh, CASH ONLY!

Google
I love this pho place. It taste amazing very authentic and refreshing. I have to eat here at least once a week TWICE if I have the time. I also love the service super nice & I just really love this place ! I’m on my way there now 🤣

Yelp
Two thing in life that I love: pho and late night food. The concept of Pho Ve Dem (#1) perfectly suits my nocturnal lifestyle, all while guaranteeing pho lovers a chance at tasty glory even in the wee hours of the night. Open starting at 5pm, this is definitely a spot for nightlife folks just looking to cure their hangover with some very tasty pho. It's a very modest interior for Pho Ve Dem. The place is not large and the decor they do have is very minimal. There are usually a mix of Vietnamese families and young people hanging out here. The bathrooms are not in the best of shape and the parking situation is a little tight beyond 5 spaces. Take a peep at the menu and know that it's basically all pho. It's very straight forward and totally feels like a one-sheet of meat cuts and bowl sizes. I appreciate the beefy broth, which in addition to being fairly clean, was a little too easy to slurp. My bowl of dac biet goodness was devoured quickly and I was very impressed with how much meat was included. I thought the tendons, bo vien meatballs, and flank cuts were generous and abundant. Service is going to be a crapshoot. Even for folks who speak Viet, the service can be a little rough around the edges and the vibe is super casual. The thought of waiters screaming orders across the room is not far off and to make matters more complicated, it's cash only. (#2) Strangely, I was really into their strong Vietnamese iced coffee. After my late night food coma, I was happy to indulge in something that was potent but sweet. I anticipate I'll be back for more midnight bowls of pho. ___________ (#1) "At Night" (#2) Now that's legit.

Yelp
Costumer service was shit, old guy seem mad that I was ordering and got even more mad when I realized I didn't have cash The food was really good tho but I felt like I was bothering him by placing an order

Connor C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious pho. Open late too which is amazing for those who get off work late and want good pho.

Yelp
Well we absolutely love pho! I mean the season doesn't matter we enjoy it regardless if it's the super hot or really cold. This was the first cold day of the season leaving the mall and wanted something warming for dinner. Our normal Bellaire pho restaurant closed last month so we needed to find somewhere new plus somewhere that stays open late since we sometimes crave soup late night on the weekends. Pho Ve Dem didn't disappoint, they have been added to our favorite list. Great soup, service was solid and the space is what you'd expect in a traditional pho restaurant. Bring cash or be prepared to pay with Zelle as they don't accept cards.

Yelp
A must go. Open late. Service is speedy, accurate also very kind. I always get the chicken pho with an order of spring rolls. Plus i ask for extra jalapeños. Their medium size dish is more than enough for me and technically two meals or a solid 1.5 meals (a meal and a snack)
google avatar

Audrey N.

Yelp
Best Phở Về Đêm in town! I was there since this place was opened until now and still in love with the fully flavored soup . Please keep up the great taste and fast service as always
google avatar

Yelp
Heard that this place is the spot to go for that late night munchies. The owner was funny and nice. He did let us know that they will closed for a month because he will be traveling; so we were lucky to be the last few customers of the night (July 31). The pho broth was sweet with lots of herbs and beefy flavor. My noodle was a bit underdone, but everyone else's were fine. Cash only and clean place. I knocked off a point because the pho wasn't super special. But it was nice that they were open late

Yelp
It's ok. Half star up for being open late but half star down for cash only so a solid three stars for the food. We watched Everything Everywhere All at Once at 8pm, came out of the movie and were so jarred that we decided to go somewhere before heading home. We arrived at 11:15pm and noticed two young women - maybe late teens, early twenties - outside the restaurant, scantily dressed and talking to a guy. We walked in past them. We sat at the table in front of the cash register and were asked whether we have cash. I rarely have cash on me but happened to carry a full wallet this time, so being cash only wasn't an issue. After we ordered, one of the women wearing a dress barely covering her bum came in and stood within 6" of my bf that I got up and changed tables. Wtf. The pho was ok. The large dac biet was just shy of $10, the soup didn't have depth, the beef had a strong smell, and the noodle amount felt small. So I still have my favorite pho joint farther north, but for a late night pho stop, this was an ok spot. Just beware of the other patrons in or outside the restaurant.

Yelp
It was evening and I was looking for a banh mi place. Unfortunately, since the Pandemic, nearly every Vietnamese sandwich place in the area closes early. As I was driving down Bellaire, I went past Pho Ve Dem--which literally translates to "come home in the evening pho"--and decided to make a u-turn and try it out. As the name alludes, this place is only open in the evenings from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am on weekend nights. It appears to be a family-run operation with every member, including the elderly ones, assigned to perform a task. The parking lot was very cramped, and is shared with other businesses that also open at night, including a massage parlor. Nevertheless I was able to find a parking spot and went inside. The restaurant is minimalist in decor and consists of several long tables flanked by short ones around the walls. Fluorescent lighting illuminates the dining room. It was certainly a step up from a hole-in-the-wall but clearly not fancy. As I was dining alone, I chose a short table. The server saw me and gave me a basic menu that consists of staple items normally found at a pho place. I gave it a quick glance and decided to order a large Pho Dac Biet and a Coke. My drink came out first and it was a Coca Cola in a can with a plastic glass filled with ice. Moments later, my pho arrived. It certainly had a fragrant aroma. There is a good balance of meats and noodles, as well as broth. The meats are fresh and has a good variety of different cuts, but not too much of one particular type. The noodles were also fresh as well. It was certainly delicious and I consumed the entire bowl. The prices are very reasonable at Pho Ve Dem, although it is a cash-only business. Fortunately, a Chase Bank with 24-hour ATM is located right next door! Overall I really enjoyed Pho Ve Dem. I did not plan to have pho for dinner but I certainly did not regret it. This is definitely a place I will return to for a late-night dinner!

Yelp
Great late night eat especially if you want some good pho. They are open til 2am. Servers were nice and efficient.
google avatar

Tommy H.

Yelp
Great late night pho spot! The best for those long nights because they're opened past 12 AM! Always a great fix with some ice cream
google avatar

Linda T.

Yelp
Overall a great pho restaurant for dinner or late nights. They're only open 5 pm till whenever they sell out (usually around midnight). There's some beverage choices and many pho selections. Broth are beefy and sweet but not sweet like eating che. Pho noodles they use are not my liking but does not take away from the experience. Cash only and you pay at the register when finish eating. It's a very laid back, old school, Vietnamese style restaurant so be prepared to be seated where ever there's seat available. Basically, they open whenever and close whenever. Call ahead if you don't want to waste a trip. If the lights are on, it means they're open.

Yelp
(3.5 stars) fyi, this place is cash only and tax is included in the menu price. Came here after eating a ton of ice cream which may have ruined my taste buds. It was Saturday night and bustling with people. I got Pho Tai Chin Nam Bo Vien large ($11). The meat was really good quality but I found the flavor in the meat and broth somewhat lacking. Also not enough mint leaves for the three of us. Service was alright (what do you expect) but the waiters were very nice! I'll come back when I haven't eaten ice cream and see if my opinion on the lack of flavor still stands.

Yelp
I was nervous to try this place because of some of the negative reviews but turned out to be nothing to worry about. The pho was so flavorful!!! Best pho i've had in Houston to date. The other pho spots I've tried were average. The person I was with ordered #1 on the menu, which comes with several beef cuts. The broth was great! I ordered the chicken pho and it was better than I expected. Broth was also great! It had a mix of dark chicken meat with skin on, chicken liver, and chicken breast. It had 1 quail egg. If you want the pho spicy, add the fresh jalapenos. Both were $10 each. Only cash is accepted. No cards. Customer service was good. The 2 young guys checked on us and asked how the food was. One asked what we liked and how to use the 3 sauces. You will definitely see me here again!!!
google avatar

Jenn N.

Yelp
The traditional Pho was delicious and fresh. It is not pricey about $10 included tax per person. The Vietnamese egg rolls were light and crispy, not greasy at all. Small restaurant, very nice people, reasonable prices and excellent food. Hole in the wall, family owned. Cash only - they don't accept any other forms of payment. Clean restrooms, too if that matters.

Yelp
Good here for the pho . Soup is flavored close to motherland. This is not a fancy restaurant so do not expect 5 stars service
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for late night pho! Lots of meat (pause) in my bowl and it was delicious. Restaurant was clean and prices were low. Beware, cash only!

Kevin T.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the pho ve dem! Five stars, hands down. The flavors were on point, and that broth was pure comfort in a bowl. Topped with fresh herbs and tender slices of beef, it hit the spot perfectly on that chilly evening. The service was friendly and quick, making it a great spot to unwind after a long day. Also the vibe of the place was on top I rlly liked how nostalgic. Can't wait to go back for more!

Jose C.

Yelp
Awesome place! Very quick and fast. The service is amazing and friendly staff. Recommend 100%

Yelp
Tried both chicken pho and house special pho - both were okay. Broth was a kinda salty and lacking some pho aroma . However, I didn't know that they only take cash until time for payment and the guy rudely asked me to go to the atm next door. I won't come back here
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
This is the best Pho place in Houston. The broth here sets the bar so high that I haven't had another place reach it. The Tai meat, I order Tai Filet so the meat is extra tender. Their pickled onions are on point here too. Other pho places literally just sprinkle some vinegar on the onions. Not here! This is the place to come when you want a flavorful, hot bowl of pho. Cash only like a lot of small businesses in Bellaire.
google avatar

Joe W.

Yelp
The service here is horrible. Felt like I was in China or Chinatown in San Fran. Menus thrown to us rude talking when we asked a simple question. Overall horrible service. The broth was hella salty and the meat was not good in my opinion. I've eaten pho all over America and I lived in Westminster so trust when I say I'm no rookie. Don't know how they got such good reviews.

Yelp
People in TX always say... Houston got gem best pho! I was like "sure, but how better can it be?" Well, while my one-day trip to Houston, unintentionally, had a chance to try it out! //FOOD I don't know because it was one of those PHO weather or out, but they tasted bomb. They have Medium, Large, and X-Large sizes; so, as a noodle fan, I went for X-Large - kinda regret cuz so much food.. go for Large next time! Anyways, I tasted the broth before I added any condiments - WOW, no kidding, definitely was different from ones I had in Dallas or Austin, in a good way. It was super clean, less oily too! Then I added lime, bean sprouts, etc - I thought to myself, "huh, this is actually really good!" OVERALL, comparing to the hype, it was "on par" - not like "this is heaven," but it's definitely good-kind of expression. //ATMOSPHERE The restaurant was pretty slow, but consistent. The restaurant was playing korean drama on one side and basketball on the other side, haha //SERVICE We were seated as we walked in and our order came out really fast! //SURROUNDINGS I think it's alright - good place, but was rainy, meh.

Khanh N.

Yelp
Best pho broth tastes the same as an authentic flavor in Viet Nam. I only give 4 stars because the broth for an extra egg is not hot, it is just warm (maybe it is based on my preference). Overall it is worth the price and it is good for a late-night supper. Definitely will comeback to this place. FYI: cash only.

My T.

Yelp
The pho are ok. The meats amount are decent but not of the best quality. They however forgot the hoisin sauce and peppers in both of my to-go orders, which really made the experience of eating their pho unpleasant.

Kimmie L.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Odd hours however it's worth the wait and drive. They have an amazing durian ice cream!
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
It was already midnight and we were hungry so might as well. Place opens pretty late hence the title. They only have pho on the menu. I always get pho dac biet (special) and the meat separately. We had six orders and I have to say it came pretty quickly and all at the same time. Good portion for a medium size and it tasted good. I finished almost everything in it. Pho is a great choice to eat at 12AM when you're starving but just don't sleep right away. The broth was filled with rich flavors and the meats were fresh and tender. It's probably one of the best pho place I have eaten. Nice interiors and I was surprised at the number of people of all ages go to eat pho that late. One thing, they only accept cash.

Kaden A.

Yelp
Best pho in Houston Love this place it is absolutely delicious Great service best pho broth I've ever had
google avatar

Alex Hiep N.

Yelp
Good pho when the lights are down. The broth is good. Not a place for ambiance, it's just a place to fill your tummy with good pho and get out.

Nguyet T.

Yelp
Came after 9 pm. The old serve man is nice. Friendly. Food and broth are above ok. Price is reasonable comparing others. We ordered beef noodles and chicken noodles too. It was 4.5 stars at first thanks to the warmly service of the waiter. However, at the end, i paid with cash but seems like tips was added without telling us. We ended up put double tips. The cashier did not give me the receipt and just tell me the totAl. There were 5 of us. It is ok to eat but just remember to ask for bill guys.

Yelp
Oh man, where do I start?! I LOVE THIS PLACE. MY PARTNER LOVE THIS PLACE. MY IN LAW LOVES IT. EVERYBODY SHOULD LOVE IT. The food is worth it's price, great portions and delicious broth. This is literally the only pho I go to and it sucks because they open so late. Doesn't matter, I wait till 5 pm to go and have me a nice bowl of pho. The owner is hilarious and already knows our order by memory. Love it. Will be going till I can't no more
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
This place opens early evenings and has been pretty busy when I've gone. The extra large bowl is a hearty portion and I left full. They did ask me if I wanted my bean sprouts steamed the 1st time I went but not the 2nd time. Broth was good and the noodles were cooked with the broth as I expect to find. Definitely will go back before I leave Houston.
google avatar

Jeremy G.

Yelp
Great pho! The meat was really high quality, the soup had depth to it, and the broth had a good balanced flavor - enough depth that you knew it had been cooked for hours but not overly meaty. Service is brusque for the most part but I came for the food and this place didn't disappoint. I think our Uber from downtown cost more than the meal itself and we'd do it again too. Cash only

Pro S.

Yelp
It was very good! I'm usually very picky with soggy noodles but they accommodated me well!
google avatar

Xavier V.

Yelp
This place is one of the best or the best Pho on Bellaire. I get the number 8 Beef and My GF eats the number 10. I always get get the durian ice cream. I love this place one of my favorites in Houston.
google avatar

Tayy W.

Yelp
My favorite pho place ever!!! The only one that comes second is the one I make at home hehe. It's a quick in and out place. Placed very discretely yet can get packed super fast! My fave go to is pho filet mignon "bam" (minced) with tendons! And a choice beverage of soy milk. They're also known for their durian ice cream! Their saté is the absolute best! I live in Dallas now and this is my first place always when I touch down!
google avatar

Ngoc L.

Yelp
If you want consistent good pho, this is the place. It's 10pm and you want some pho, this is the place. The face that they open later than most place deserves a star. Love their Durian ice cream! Sweet little dessert after pho. Giving this place 4 stars Bc it's in a more sketchy part of town. I mean the owner himself was once held at gun point... because it's a bit dangerous, you can proudly say, "I risked my life for some pho" -bragging rights
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Really great customer service. Our server was very patient with us as we hadn't been there before. Best pho we had that isn't from home. Very clean and tidy. They're open late which is a huge plus!!! Only down sides were the thai tea was a little too sweet and there wasn't enough meat in our pho, but it was still a good amount of noodles. Overall a very pleasant experience. Will definitely be back when we visit Texas again. =)

Victoria M.

Yelp
Pho is amazing here!!! Definitely recommend. I also love how they stay open late !!!!
google avatar

Betty R.

Yelp
The pho broth was not it. The last time I came it was great but this time it was just off. The wings were good and so was the freshly squeezed orange juice.
google avatar

Nancy T.

Yelp
I don't usually eat pho, but when I do, it's Pho Ve Dem. The menu is only pho. I'm okay with that. There's small, medium, large, and EXTRA LARGE. Looks like the restaurant extended its space. It used to be so small, tight, and crowded. Yay for expanding! I got the Pho Dac Biet, the special, the number 1, the while shebang. Oh and I got a large. I can eat. It was pretty darn good. The meat, the broth, the everything. I didn't even need hoisin sauce or sriracha in my pho because it tasted THAT good. This place is cash only. Like most if not all other stores and restaurants in Bellaire. And parking is terrible. Park at the chase bank next door and walk over. They need to open all day. Just sayin.
google avatar

Trí C.

Yelp
This has good phở but be warned, they do not socially distance the table at all and occasionally the waitresses do not wear masks. Also, sometimes the people's fingers may dip into your broth when they bring out your noodle soup. Not the most sanitary experience despite the good food
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
Great for late night meal as they open til late. Pho was good potion and generous. Service was quick and friendly also
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
I came here late one night. Boy, I wasn't expecting it to be packed, but it was, and so was the karaoke next door. I tried Tanya N.'s dipping sauce and it tasted like a sauce for crawfish. Maybe I'll just stick to my homemade sauce. As far as the pho here, it is pretty good. I ordered the small filet, which isn't on the menu and it was great. Their broth is right on par with the better pho restaurants in town. I came with a group and we had a table by the wall and my ears were ringing, since the karaoke place next door was so loud. Parking is a slight challenge on some nights, to say the least.
google avatar

Leon H.

Yelp
Great pho place. I've tried their brisket pho and dried chicken pho and both were great. Better than average pho places. I'm Vietnamese so I consider myself a decent authority on the matter of pho. The dried chicken pho really stood out and it is the main reason that I am giving the restuarant 5 stars. Also don't forget to try the durian ice cream it's bomb. Though it would be better if it were more creamy.
google avatar

Mehdi A.

Yelp
4 stars for the Thai Tea & 3 for the Freshly Squeezed Lemonade. My friend got the #2 he really enjoyed it, (it smelled delicious)here's a pic. CASH ONLY by the way but if you're in your seat waiting for the Phó you can run over rq to the Chase Bank next door!! Great table service and excellent cleanliness. 10/10 experience. Another great part is that they stay open late.
google avatar

Yelp
Personally, Pho Ve Dem is my favorite pho spot in Houston; it's my to-go. It's so good that I won't even bother searching for another pho spot unless someone specifically highly recommends another pho joint - and even then, only maybe, will I try it out. True to its name, Pho Ve Dem closes later than other pho joints & as a night shifter, I truly appreciate this. There is nothing quite like having a pho past 2200 on a cold night to end a long day. Also, it's cash only. Pho is basically the only thing on this menu (although I've also heard that the ice cream here is bomb) & they do it right. The broth is rich, but not too greasy/fatty. It's aromatic with the slightest hint of herbs. Put in a handful of bean sprouts, dabble in some basil and sriracha, and you're done! The broth is so good that I don't even put in hoisin anymore. Also, the pho comes out hot - just the way I like it.

Yelp
This place is a hit or a miss, sometimes the broth is on point and sometimes the broth is bland as heck to where even if you put your sauces & veggies in it still taste like nothing. I was craving some pho today and decided to come here and pick up a to go order, I ordered the Pho nam with meatballs (large). The older gentleman who took my order wasn't friendly at all I think he's the owner, my advice to him is if you want your business to go up; STOP working at the front of the house and work in the back or just don't be there at all. He's been like that for several years since I've been there and I finally just had enough & decided to post this review. When I took my food home and opened it up I was sooo disappointed in the portion size, considering I ordered a LARGE pho, I received a portion that is a small. I'll tell you why, they gave me 4 meatballs mind you it's already sliced in half so basically all I got was two meatballs. For a large I feel like since it's already sliced in half I should've gotten at least 6-8 of them. The portion of the noodles was fine and the nam meat was the same amount if I've gotten the small pho. I don't want anything for free but I deserve to get what I paid for and I definitely didn't receive that. Overall the soup was decent but to be honest this will be my last time eating there.
