Pho Viet Review - West Argyle Historic District - Chicago - The Infatuation

"There’s no wrong way to order at Pho Viet, but no matter what you get at this casual spot on North Broadway, make sure to start with the bánh bèo chén. These toothy, almost al dente steamed rice cakes are topped with green onion, a delicate sprinkle of shrimp, and a crunch of crispy pork skin. Add a spoon of sweet and savory nước mắm for a perfect bite. photo credit: Jack X. Li" - Team Infatuation

Google
Pho Viet is the best Vietnamese Restaurant That I personally dining out weekly while working at Pretty Nails in Lynchburg Virginia…and I have been living in the state since 1992….from spring rolls to combo vermicelli …the taste reminds me of my childhood growing up in Truong Minh Giang Q3 Saigon City in the 80’s….Thank you Pho Viet for that🥰🥰🥰🥰

Sarah Light

Google
Such a sweet chef and great customer service! Awesome dishes (I got the combo vermicelli dish) - authenticated by a Viet friend 😉

Google
Go hungry/ ready to eat! We had the #28 recommended and most chosen meal. It's a beef soup. It was very tasty. I added bean sprouts, jalapeños, and a basil leaf. They also had chili oil, which my son and daughter added. They said it didn't make it better or worse. They played calm music with a video of creeks and waterfalls. The service was also wonderful. She showed us how to empty the bowl into carry-out and how to re-heat. It's a great place for my family.

Google
Edit: I recently found out Pho Viet is no longer affiliated with Saigon on Timberlake Saigon has been a classic go-to and I’m glad to see them expanding to new locations. We heard this location has bánh mì and although it’s not on the menu we were told it’s available sporadically depending on their supplies. It was delicious! Full of flavor. A must if it’s available

Google
They are a good restaurant, and I would go again. I recommend banh mi (although it's more expensive than in Atlanta). I think the portion is larger than any other banh mi's I have had. Service is great. The server was nice. Atmosphere is what you would expect from a Vietnamese pho restaurant. Pho is alright. I had better, but the pho delivered what pho should deliver. (hot broth, noodle cooked just right, good veggies, meat and noodle ratio). Appetizers are okay. I don't personally want to get it again. If you want to try an appetizer, try summer roll. I enjoyed it.

Google
I was not a fan of the food. Perhaps I should just stick to the basics and try the pho. I wanted to see what their apps were like and I regret my decision. The only one I liked was the spring rolls. Those were delicious. The others, however, were extremely bland and had no taste and I threw them in the trash. I tried the summer and shrimp rolls and the only difference between them is this thin strip of meat I almost didn't notice. They are primarily stuffed with lettuce and it's all completely tasteless. The peanut sauce was good but it didn't make the rolls taste better. The calamari was the worst I've ever had. It tasted like nothingness and air. Update 5/31 under different mgmt than a few years ago and the food is much better. I thoroughly enjoyed most of what was purchased yesterday. The only thing I wasn't fond of was the seafood pho. I've never had pho before and I just don't think it's for me. The soup had kind of a bitter taste. The crispy spring rolls, pork, and beef were delicious! The dumplings weren't that great, especially not the steamed ones. The summer rolls are much better now.

Google
We had the Bahn Mi’s off their secret menu. Beef, pork, chicken - each was marinated and grilled to succulent perfection. The Vietnamese coffee was strong and divine. We’ve been searching for this kinda hidden gem! Thank you all for the amazing food

Yelp
One of the better pho I've had. Incredibly flavorful broth. 1st visit. Would recommend for pho

Yelp
I love bringing my friends!! Came here with a friend for lunch! The owner Annie is so gracious and kind person! The place is always clean! The staff is always friendly and helpful! My favorite food here is their Pho, which is always on point! Delicious in every sense of the word! It's very comparable to the Pho I have had in large Vietnamese concentrated cities like Los Angeles. I have also tried their Papaya Salad which is always huge & filling! I highly recommend the food here! Hope to be back again & again & again!

Yelp
Really a short review, but I have to say Pho Viet was a really pleasant surprise. The best Asian food in Lynchburg that I have had so far. Very clean, really pleasant service. I would highly recommend the hot pepper oil ... that was amazing. I have had the shaking beef and chicken curry. Loved them both. The spring rolls and dumplings could have been less greasy and it may have been 5 stars.

Yelp
We've eaten here at least 10 times and I'm so late in writing this review. The Pho is amazing along with their summer and spring rolls you simply cannot go wrong. Add in some fried rice and you're overwhelmed with food and Vietnamese goodness. The service is fantastic and very welcoming. Go enjoy and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
It was my first time at Pho Viet and the food was amazing! I got the #33 pho and added siracaha and hoisin sauce to it and it was so delicious! It was my second time having pho ever and I can't wait to come back. I also loved the cute decor.

Yelp
Been to a lot of pho places living near little Saigon in california, I can honestly say their pho is legit. I had #26 and my fiance had the shrimp pho and we started with summer roll appetizer the peanut dipping sauce was very good. We will be back for sure.

Yelp
As a connoisseur of American and Thai cuisine, Pho is not typically in my line of fire for dinner outings. But a friend recommended it and pulled me along. While I do enjoy Thai food, Pho hits at a different kind of flavor. Pho Viet is a nice little hole-in-the-wall with super nice staff, relaxing ambience, and good food. If you love spicy food as much as I do, you're in luck, there's a nice round container of chili oil right at your table to make your dish as hellishly hot as you'd like! Overall, I recommend it. The perfect day for Pho Viet is a rainy or cold day, as its dishes are comforting and warm!

Deborah W.

Yelp
We used to really enjoy the food here and service here. The last 3 times we were here the food was good but the service has definitely gone downhill. The service was from the same individual, and she will argue with you if you request anything out of the norm. She doesn't smile and is very unpleasant. The first time this happened we assumed it was a one off, but three times in a row? It's too bad, because it used to be one of our favorites...

Yelp
Took my girlfriend here to introduce her to Pho for the first time. As the 5 stars show she absolutely loved it! The key to good pho always comes down to the broth and boy do they absolutely nail it here! The food has been good every time we come here and it's a peaceful restaurant in a strip mall so not too hectic to get in and grab a bite. Staff were very friendly and the food was quick and again I must say very delicious. Go to Vietnamese spot in the Burg!!

Yelp
Food is 10/10. Great atmosphere. Helpful staff. Excellent Pho, excellent curry, spring rolls were fresh and delish

Yelp
Stopped by just to try the Banh Mi sub and it did not disappoint. I love these subs and get them whenever I can, and this is one of my favorites. My picture only shows half of the sub...it was much larger than expected. I'll definitely come here again!

Yelp
I've been to quite a few Vietnamese restaurants across the southeast and I have to say that this is one of the best, if not the best, Vietnamese restaurant I've been to. My go to order is bun bo hue or as they call it spicy beef noodle soup. It is a generous portion of flavorful broth, especially with the chill oil they provide. Additionally, the portion of meat is far more than average. I also love the fried rice they offer. My favorite is the pork fried rice but you can't go wrong with any of them. I would highly recommend trying Pho Viet out regardless of whether you are a seasoned pho enjoyer or you simply want something different. Either way this is one of the best restaurants in Lynchburg.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service, and the pho is terrific. There's another place in town that has good pho, but it's way salty, and the wait times are really long. Pho Viet is convenient to Forest, but worth the drive from anywhere else in the area. And the big screen digital photos are nice to view when you dine in.

Yelp
The summer roll was to die for! We ordered a second order. The peanut sauce was some of the best I've had. Our pho was delicious and giant. Probably the largest serving I've had at a pho restaurant. The service was somewhat lacking with one guy running the whole place although friendly. Their boba was decent, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. Overall would definitely recommend for Pho or summer rolls!

Yelp
Went in for the first time and it was everything you could want in Vietnamese Pho and more. The spring rolls were hands down the best my wife and I have ever had. We ordered the Pho Ga and it was perfect. Nothing better than good pho on a cold day, or a hot day for that matter. We Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Went soup searching again. The vegetarian pho here is delicious! Flavorful broth, plenty of veggies and accompaniments, and perfectly fried tofu. Others said the shrimp fried rice with the spicy soy sauce and the chicken and broccoli were great too! My mom even got me to call in another order of shrimp fried rice for her later on in the week. The owner/manager was really nice and welcoming. I will definitely come back for my pho!

Leslie S.

Yelp
Love their food. Papaya salad, the soup, summer rolls.... EVERYTHING tastes delicious !

Yelp
This cozy Vietnamese restaurant opened recently in the space that was the original location for Brauburgers. Service is excellent and the food is amazing. I served 20 years in the Navy and spent a lot of time in ports throughout Southeast Asia. Though many Asian-themed restaurants serve food that is more of a fusion style, this restaurant is unapologetically authentic Vietnamese. Servings offer generous portions. The vegetables are very fresh and cooked to perfection. Food arrives steaming hot, the vegetables cooked through yet still crisp and satisfying. The various "simple" broths and sauces are, in fact, complex, rich, and flavorful. Should you find yourself near the Kroger in Forest you owe it to yourself to visit Pho Viet.

Ted W.

Yelp
The food and service here is really amazing. Everything is made from scratch. I highly recommend the Vietnamese curry. That said, I've had multiple things there, and it is always on point. The staff is kind, and very friendly. You won't be disappointed and will likely leave with leftovers that will be fought over later :)

Yelp
Absolute best Pho in the area. The portions are good, the broth is great and the people are excellent. My son and I are regulars in this place now, to the point that they know our order when we come in! Take the drive out to Forest and give them a try. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Just moved to Forest- this was our first time trying this restaurant! It was literally soooo good and the service was amazing!

Yelp
Very nice place. Comfortable environment. Clean. Friendly staff. Had the Beef and Rice platter that was very good.

Yelp
First time trying pho and it didn't disappoint! Server was very friendly and the portion was huge, I barely finished half of my bowl. Very cute atmosphere inside and overall a good experience. Can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Delicious calamari Appetizer and tofu with vegetables. Quick and kind service and very generous portions

Yelp
Ordered Pho Viet Special Pho and Grilled Pork with plain rice. First off, the place was very clean. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. They have booths and tables. The Special PHO: 1. It was a big bowl and we did not finish it. The broth is milder than i am used to. Also, i wish the noodles were blanched first. This keeps the broth hotter longer. It seemed the noodles used were cold. 6 out 10 stars 2. Grilled Pork w plain Rice. I am used to eating broken rice with Viet dishes. It is a lot stickier than what they served here. The grilled pork are shaved really thin with a good balance of some fat. Then covered with crispy garlic chips. Accompanied with jullianed cucumber and thin tomato slices. The pork is good. 7 out of 10 stars. Note: i have been eating Pho for twenty years. My standard is Pho79 in Virginia Beach. They serve Pho with an intense beefy broth. The Grilled meats are marinated with an intense lemon grass flavor and served served on sticks.

Yelp
We recently discovered Pho Viet while in lynchburg and really enjoyed our meals while there. We got the Pho (eye of round) and beef vermicelli. Both were delicious and had great flavor. We then did takeout with our family a few days later and everything was well loved as well.
google avatar

Gena P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I eat A LOT of pho and love trying new places. This is definitely one of the better places we've visited and will be back. Only complaints are that the summer rolls are mostly lettuce (which the owner has since decided to add more veggies to), the peanut sauce mostly just tastes like straight peanut butter, and the coffees we had were gone after like 4 sips (but still tasted soooo good!). Overall, a pleasant experience!

Yelp
I recently returned to this restaurant after initially trying it when it first opened. I wasn't impressed the first time, so I went back to Saigon Palace as my go-to Vietnamese place. I decided to give it another try over the weekend. They must have gotten a new chef because the food is definitely better now. I especially like the banh mi, which is not listed on the menu. If you're a Saigon Palace regular, you should try Pho Viet ASAP.

Yelp
They always serve amazing food and service is always prompt. Highly recommend the bun bo hue! very authentic

Yelp
So great to have a place like this in Forest. The chef is from Manhattan and he prepared us an amazing hot pot with beef, pork, tendon, tripe, calamari, fish meatballs, shrimp, mussels, tons of veggies....10 out of 10!!!

Rick T.

Yelp
Delicious!!! First time visit and will return often. We stopped in for lunch today and were greeted and seat promptly. Pleasant and courteous server who explained all of our menu questions. Attentive waitstaff brought our order quickly. Great experience and delicious food. Glad they chose Forest for their location.

Courtney F.

Yelp
We had a great experience for dinner tonight. It was our first time trying hotpot and it was very good. Everything was fresh and very flavorful! We can't wait to go back again and try some different menu items.

Käe S.

Yelp
My half Vietnamese daughter is the one to get the full judgment for food since she loves to eat. She loves the Pho. I don't think she has anything but "yum!" to say about it.
google avatar

Joey S.

Yelp
Very affordable and delicious pho! They are open till 9:00pm all week which makes it a nice and reliable weekday dinner spot. I will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
The service is fast and efficient. The server is very polite. The food is delicious and high quality. Barely a wait to get it. It's a soothing atmosphere. We will be back.
google avatar

Pedro S.

Yelp
Pho Viet offers fine Vietnam meals, in a clean, spartanly elegant setting. Food is soundly prepared, and splendidly presented. Meals are faultlessly cooked: neither undercooked, nor overcooked. I think that deliver more value than they charge! The bottom line: they are what I hope for--and value--in a neighborhood diner!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Super great spot for flavorful Vietnamese food in Lynchburg! Sometimes I find that places don't have super tasty vegetarian options, but this place did. They were able to modify their summer rolls and banh mi to have tofu instead of meat. I love summer rolls and these were great!! My husband had the brisket pho and spring rolls and he really liked them. We will be back! :)

Sarah J.

Yelp
Just had one of the best meals ever. They have hot pot on the weekend, and it's so amazing! This is the only place in Lynchburg that has hot pot it was enough for 3-4 adults, so my husband and I will have tons of yummy left overs. We got the beef kind but they also have seafood hotpot. Incredible flavor & quality, plus great service!
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
Awesome place, our kids eat here frequently and they love it. Everything tastes wonderful and the Thai Teas are amazing. We highly recommend Pho Viet to anyone who hasn't tried it yet.
google avatar

Chad P.

Yelp
My favorite pho in the area, I'll definitely be back! I also enjoyed nmy summer rolls and coffee. Great service as well
google avatar

Melody S.

Yelp
Delicious pho, quick service, and relaxing atmosphere. Great for a casual meal. My husband and I live close by and are very glad to see some Asian cuisine in the area. We will be supporting this local business.

C M.

Yelp
My wife, myself and another couple ate lunch there yesterday. Three of us got their traditional Vietnamese stir-fry (beef or chicken) and my wife got the Pho chicken soup. The stir-fry dishes were very tasty and substantial. The soup was good, but a bit bland. Service is excellent and prices were reasonable. They also have take-out, if preferable.
google avatar

Tam T.

Yelp
Customer service is always great and the food is so good. we are glad to see our area getting more authentic food!

Ben C.

Yelp
Wow! What a treat. We felt like we we eating Vietnamese food in LA or SF! So fresh!!!

Roger G.

Yelp
Very good food owners very nice. There sound a great job keeping it close to Vietnamese with what they can get here in the states.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
If you want better Vietnamese food go to Saigon palace. The banh mi bread was terrible , not even The proper bread used tasted like a subway sandwhich and not a banh mi. The summer rolls were with more terrible cabbage than anything else. And the peanut sauce was lacking flavor compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to.

Leslie F.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! First, everything is clean and new, even the menus! They have pho, noodle soup, fried rice, stir fries, everything viet nan restaurants should have, including taro boba! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Richard L.

Yelp
New place in Forest. Food was delicious and service was excellent. I had the pho with rare steak and some spring rolls.

Mary Ann E.

Yelp
This is fabulous food , everything fresh and tasty, sandwiches are great pho noodles so tasty, we will be back often
