Calafia Cafe Closes in Palo Alto | Eater SF

"In San Jose I found a new restaurant, aptly named Pho Wagyu, that specializes in Vietnamese noodle soup with wagyu beef; a bowl with wagyu, beef flank, tendon, and meatballs runs $19." - Janelle Bitker

Grabbed some delivery from this place the other night. I went with the beef stew and shrimp in a blanket. Everything arrived nice and hot. The shrimp in the blanket, we're very good. The shrimp were juicy, and the wrap was nice and thin and crispy. The beef stew arrived with everything separated, which I appreciated .I found the beef to be a little dry and the soup was lacking flavor and greasy. Overall, not bad.I would try it again.

So we have a Pho spot we normally go to but this was a bit closer to us so we gave it a try. The food is great! We got the spring rolls and 2 different Pho’s. However, the service was lacking unfortunately from our server (I didn’t get her name). We weren’t checked on once since the food was brought to us. We then tried to get her attention for a to go container and to pay. We finally paid and asked for the to go container. After about 10 minutes I got up to ask about the to go container and she said she thought she had already brought it to us . I see all these reviews about Chase and it’s amazing to see the customer service he is providing to his tables. We just didn’t get to experience it. I’m not sure if there aren’t enough employees or what was happening but service is so important!

There is something for everyone here if you don’t like get a rice noodle bowl or get the Wagyu cooked on a stone table side or wings or spring rolls or a sandwich any number of Vietnamese tasty dishes. We ordered to go and our food was incredible - and packed thoughtfully. Our server recommended that we dine-in next time for the full experience - definitely heating her advice!

Not a bad experience at all. I've had better Pho, but I've had worse too. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. And the restaurant has a good atmosphere and is kept nice and clean. The wings were delicious! Definitely the best thing that we ordered. I would recommend giving this place a try.

I had wanted to try this place forever, but am rarely that far north. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Broth was so thin and lacking in taste. The only upside was how quickly it came out.

10/10 would recommend. Khat is amazing! By far the best Vietnamese restaurant in all of South Florida. Always enjoyed coming here!

We visited on a Friday night in late December 2024 for take out dinner. I think we had some issues placing order online so we just did it in person. There were a good number of people in the restaurant as well. The young lady taking our order while not looking Asian, understood all the things we were talking about which was great because my Vietnamese pronunciation isn't great either. She was very patient and answered all our questions. We were told it would take 15-20 mins which was fine. We did ask for utensils and extra empty containers since we were staying at a hotel nearby and didn't have bowls. Very accommodating. We ordered: - Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue) - Pho Combination (Dac Biet) - Vietnamese crepe Shrimp & Pork (Banh Xeo Tom Thit) - Vermicelli with Grilled Pork - Fried Rice with Chicken - Crispy Egg Rolls (Cha Gio) (3 Pieces) The Bun Bo Hue was good according to my oldest. It had all the right fixings with it too. My middle one had the Pho Dac Biet and cleaned all that up. Wife had the Vermicelli with Grilled Pork, which is always her favorite Vietnamese dish, and loved that. They gave us extra fish sauce and we ordered the Cha Gio to eat with it too for that crunch. I got to eat one of the 3 egg rolls and they were a little small and pricey but I guess that is inflation these days. I had the Banh Xeo and it was a little chewy by the time we got it back to the hotel but it was still amazing and plenty of fish sauce provided. We all shared the fried rice which we were surprised as we were expecting chicken mixed in with the rice but it was a whole piece of chicken sliced up on top of the fried rice. It was marinated in Vietnamese species. I remember it was heavy on the ginger or garlic. I don't remember. Not you typical Americanized Asian food. We would totally stop here again if we were in town. It got us that Asian food we were craving after so much fried fast food on our road trip.

Extremely Disappointed — Not Even Close to Authentic Vietnamese As someone who’s been enjoying Vietnamese cuisine for over 25 years, I walked into this restaurant with high hopes. I’ve eaten Vietnamese food across the country and abroad, and I know the flavors, textures, and care that go into a truly authentic dish. Sadly, this place missed the mark on every level. • The spring rolls were a disaster—dry, bland, and poorly assembled. • I ordered the “super” combo, which was supposed to include four types of meat. It came with only two. No explanation, no apology. • I added a side of tendon, and they brought me three tiny pieces. That’s not a side—that’s an insult. I take full responsibility for trusting the glowing five-star reviews. If it were up to me, this place wouldn’t even earn one. If you’re looking for real Vietnamese food, keep looking. This isn’t it.
