If you are in Syracuse and close to the University this is a must go place. Very nice ambience and I guess a lot of history to this place. I tried the Salmon and my daughter tried the Ceaser Salad with Grilled Chicken . Both were fresh and well made. The portions were right for brunch. Definitely deserves a second visit . Update 5/11/25 Went back to Phoebes for the nth time Great food We had the Tuscan pasta with Portabella mushrooms and shrimp Also we tried the salmon dish again with the wild rice and the chicken ceaser salad Food as always delicious and fresh It definitely a must go place if you are in Syracuse

Google
We went here Saturday for a late valentines day dinner and it was good! For an app we got the fried artichoke which was delicious! I started with the brocoli cheddar soup which was a bit disappointing, it was more like blended brocoli broth- not creamy and no chunks of brocoli like I'm used to. The mains were good, the short rib was delicious and well cooked. The salmon was also well cooked, but the composition with the risotto and cooked greens topped with raw mushrooms was a bit confusing, decent flavor overall. The creme brulee was very good to finish off. Service could've been better, the server seemed new so I'll cut her some slack there. Overall this was a nice experience, the restaurant is beautiful inside and the food is good, we will definitely be putting this into our rotation.

Google
French onion soup was amazing. Lots 9f onions. I had the Shrimp Skewers over grits. They were perfectly tender and cheesy.

Laura Lazier

Google
Cool place, great service. The French Onion soup was a hug for my soul. I had the special of the day; Broccoli Quiche with pepper jack cheese. While the quiche was super thick, there wasn’t a hint of pepper jack cheese. It was disappointing because the quiche seems to be one of the foundational dishes. Observing some of the other dishes other patrons ordered, I wish I had chosen something different. Regardless, the Bloody Mary & the bartender were delightful & the atmosphere made up for the meh quiche. Would try this place again.

Google
Gorgeous restaurant inside. Our server was great. We went with a group of 5 people during lunch. I had easily the best wrap I’ve ever had. I have to imagine everything else on the menu is just as good. 5 out 5. Will absolutely be doing stairs more this week to justify the lunch I will have here next week. 😂

Google
A solid restaurant conveniently across the street from Syracuse stage. Adequate street parking and parking lot within same block. Service was attentive, fast, and friendly. Food portion was reasonable size. A good spot for a hearty meal.

Google
This restaurant continues to be a wonderful place to go for any reason; Business or casual. I still love their French onion soup!

Kimberly Dugan

Google
Absolutely loved this place! The food was a little on the pricey side, but in the end it was worth it. Generous portions, everything was fresh and displayed beautifully. Service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would, but I'll round up to 5! They have a delightful seasonal menu that brings some excitement to new seasons. My friends and I tend to go back once a season to see what they've cooked up this time. Their cocktails are always delicious. The servers are consistently kind, and the place itself is kinda fancy-ish. I could see it being a great place to go when your parents are in town. I will say, every time I've gone, at least one person at our table has had some minor problem with their dish. It's a bit too expensive for the quantity of food (or to go more than 4x a year) but we love it anyway. Definitely a good place to go as a treat or a celebration.

Yelp
I've passed by this place for years and finally tried it, wow! I first have to commend our server- absolutely incredible service. The free bread was fresh and came with a lemon dill butter which was to die for. We ordered the watermelon with feta and it was a great, light appetizer that paired really well together. My friend ordered the veggie burger and gave it great reviews. She let me try the chipotle sauce that came on it- AMAZING. It was a better version of chick-fil-a sauce. I ordered the flat iron steak with veggies: I was very happy with the middle of the steak but wish the outside was a tad crispier. Overall it was a good meal and the creme brûlée was incredible to top it off. I really enjoyed this place and will include it in my Syracuse recommendations.

Yelp
Phoebe's is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! Every dish I've tried has been spectacular. The creme brûlée was perfect. The service is fast, and the waitresses are extremely friendly. It's a beautiful place, wonderful ambiance and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Super cute inside and the food is amazing. I had the flatbread with prosciutto and some sort of white soft cheese and my brother had chicken with an orange marmalade. Both meals were fabulous. Very cute quaint restaurant/cafe. Highly recommend if you're in the area. The food is amazing.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! A beautiful upscale casual dinner place! Beautiful and cozy inside! Staff was fantastic and super friendly! Drinks were amazing (peach mule and cider tini) and YUMMY! Food was so good I didn't get to take a picture of it, entrees come in half and full portions, half portions are still more than enough to fill you up! Great restaurant to go to! Will definitely be back. - we did need a reservation so definitely book ahead!

Yelp
This restaurant is so cute. This is my second time I have dinner. My first time I was seated at the bar so I was not able to appreciate the beauty of this place. We had the duck dumplings for starters, it was exquisite. My salad and salmon was good too. My parked on the street. It's free after 6:00 pm

Yelp
This is my third time to Phoebe's and always enjoyable and a treat. Service was impeccable. We started with fried artichoke appetizer which is perfect! A large portion, not at all greasy, lightly fried with a delicious aioli for dipping. My daughter had the rib eye which frankly was the only let down - it was overly fatty and very thin for a rib eye. The duck entree was very good- would've been better if the fat was rendered more and therefore crispier skin but the flavor was delicious, the sauce and juices that seeped into the wild grain rice and vegetable was like a slow cooked au jus and amazing. A drink each, a coffee, and one shared crème brûlée brought the total to $120, money well spent on a fine dining experience.

Yelp
I grew up in Syracuse, but had never been to Phoebe's until now! My friend held a baby shower here in the room with the skylight. It was such a beautiful space-very light and airy. Seemed to accommodate atleast 40 people easy. The waitstaff offered wonderful service and the food was spectacular. They offered a version of french toast, sausage, bacon, etc-typical brunch items. They even allowed my friend to take home what's leftover as they'd box it up. I thought that was really neat for them to do. I imagine this would be a great dinner spot as its right across the street from Syracuse Stage and down the road from SU. I look forward to trying their main menu one day!

Yelp
Went to such an amazing bridal shower here. It was the perfect place to throw one. Service was great and I love the aesthetic. The food was exceptional. I feel like catering can go either way with events. We had salad, fruit salad, quiche, bacon, and a French toast casserole that were all delicious. I would have mine here any day!

Yelp
I didn't take a picture, but stopped in to the lounge for a breakfast sandwich (2 eggs and cheese, plus added bacon) and also got a London fog. I don't eat gluten and the GF bun option was really good (can't always say this!) I sat in the lounge for a couple hours doing some work, and it was such a nice place to sit! I have dined here with friends in the past as well, and I think this place is just great!!

Yelp
A friend and I recently had dinner at Phoebe's upon her suggestion. I have visited the establishment before but it had been many years ago. It's a quaint restaurant near SU and Syracuse stage. She was already seated at the bar when I arrived, we both enjoyed a Prosecco. We had reservations in the Atrium room but decided to eat at the bar. She ordered a salad and I escargot. They were promptly delivered and we ordered entrees Atlantic Salmon for her and Skirted Steak for myself. Both were good I felt like the salmon could have some type of flavoring to bring the dish altogether. The skirted steak was a pleasant meal as well, I enjoyed the garlic sauce that was unique. It didn't have quite the flair that some of the newer downtown restaurants but is a solid oldie but goodie! Also more reasonably priced than some newer competitors.

Yelp
I've this quaint little place at the corner of Irving and Fayette. I've eaten there a few times and I'd have to say that I haven't had a bad meal yet. One menu item that I HIGHLY recommend, is the the chicken Caesar salad. TOTAL Chicken Caesar salad snob over here, for sureee! The dressing has to be fresh and not too sweet.. the lettuce better be crisp. The croutons need to be crunchy and flavorful.. and the chicken has to be grilled/seasoned/hot! Check, check, check and CHECK! Every time! So if you've got a hankering for a chicken Caesar! Gotta check Phoebe's out!

Yelp
Service was great! Me and the Misses shared a lovely evening in a quite large dining area, complete with brick accents and a quiet setting. We ordered: Full Wedge salad [4/5] - salad was not anything special, classic iceberg with a smooth blue cheese and large cuts of bacon and grape tomatoes. Calamari [3/5] - again, nothing special, sauce was similar to marinara and pre-packaged sweet and spicy sauce, calamari was barely seasoned Pear and Swiss sandwich [3/5] - bread was dense, chicken was juicy but lacked flavor, cheese was perfectly melty, fries were EXCELLENT - would recommend a toasted ciabatta with a pear compote, grilled pears, a grilled chicken with smoky seasonings, and a balsamic tossed arugula for flavor complexity Jumbo Scallops and Gnocchi [2/5] - extremely salty to the point where it was difficult to eat. Despite this, scallops were cooked almost perfect. Gnocchi was chewy and unsatisfying. - would recommend reducing pancetta, cooking scallops in pancetta grease and butter so fat can cut thru sodium, going heavier on cream in vodka sauce and removing pesto. Shaved brussels were a great addition for texture and could have been fried with panko in oven to get extra crisp Drinks: Cucumber 75 [4/5] - delicate but very sweet Pearsecco [4/5] -tasty but would've liked the rosemary to have shined a tad more (thru muddling)

Yelp
I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It has a quaint older appearance from the huge oak bar to lovely plank flooring. My favorite part was the beautiful rays of sun light that stream through the fig tree which centers in the middle of the restaurant. Although every dish that we had was delicious, the restaurant is known for its quiches. They are different each day. Mine had Havarti, Tomatoes and Dill. It was delicious! Sadly, there aren't any secret menu items but the Italian soda's were fun. They also sell their staff shirts. Of course I bought one!

Yelp
Totally love this place! We had 3 branches of our family meeting in Syracuse and picked Phoebe's. They were great from making reservations to accomodating our group which included two kids and we all arrived at slightly different times. The atomosphere is great - this place just has a good vibe. EVERYONE was happy with their food and the waitress was great at accomodating a specialized diet as well. Just fantastic!

Yelp
I love Phoebe's. It is a relic from an earlier time, and has a lot of the character of the ubiquitous brass-and-fern restaurants of the 1980s. The selection at the bar is excellent, the service is always good, and there is a homey vibe with plants and New Yorker magazine covers for decor. I find that they have a "quiche of the day" and have done since 1976 to be particularly adorable.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner for two before a performance at Syracuse Stage. We made online reservations and had asked for a window seat. We were greeted and escorted to a perfect (if a bit chilly) table facing E. Genesee. A nice view of sidewalk foot traffic. Our server came over and explained the specials. We asked her to give us a few minutes to decided our drink orders. I got a Snakebite (cider & Guinness) and my wife asked for a rosemary and gin cocktail. Both hit the spot. My wife ordered a cup of the broccoli cheddar soup (more broccoli than cheddar). We also ordered the scallop/gnocchi plate and the seared shrimp plate for our mains. The orders took a little while to arrive, but we were in no hurry. When they did arrive, we ordered another round of drinks. This time a pomegranate mule, and a cinnamon White Russian. Perfect desserts to end the evening. A real neighborhood gem that amazingly has been in business for nearly 50 years!

Yelp
Sat at the bar quickly, but service was slow due to the bartender talking to people. Didn't get a menu for a long while. The scallop special and the scallop & linguini dish on menu were both very good, but the vegetable options in both were mostly the same. I understand utilizing ingredients on menus more than once, but the menu definitely seemed to over-do this. The space is cozy but confusing, do you need reservations? Is it a cafe? Is it a bar?

Yelp
Food is good but overpriced. For the cost, food should be excellent and not just good.

Yelp
What a great place to host an event or just stop by for lunch or dinner. Phoebe's is open 6 days a week and closes on Sundays for private parties only. I recently hosted my baby shower here for about 20 people and they made sure we had everything we needed. There was also another shower going on at the same time, so they are able to accommodate multiple parties. They had all of the tables, chairs and place settings set up when we arrived and helped us with anything we needed as we set up for the party. They had a coffee and mimosa bar available for guests. The food was great! I especially loved the quiche (which they are well known for) and the French toast bake. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place to host an event!

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch here while visiting family in Syracuse. This is a nice bright and airy restaurant. Service was excellent. Our food was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food, atmosphere. Nice bar and restaurant sitting area. They got a good local craft beer selection and full bar. Very good menu. Your average meal will cost you between 25 and $35 per entree

Yelp
Excellent food. Savory dishes. Lovely surroundings. If I lived in Syracuse this would be my go to place. Cozy and warm with plenty of room. Makes you want to try everything on the menu. Our server was terrific. Always making sure we had what we needed. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
Everyone I come here I am so pleased. The food is always so good and their ever changing menu keeps me intrigued and coming back. The service is always great! The place is so beautiful inside and can comfortably fit a party of 14. I will be going back and highly recommend phoebes!

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect for when your going to Syracuse Stage to see a show. It's right across the street so when my sister and I had show tickets a couple of weeks ago this is where we came. This was not my first time here but it's been a long time. I even think they were closed for awhile but now they are open and it's a beautiful space!! The service was excellent!! I had a creamy corn soup for starters that was very good. My sister and I shared a burger (bacon, blue cheese) that was cooked perfectly. The cream brûlée desert was the star of the lunch. I honestly have to say it's the best I've ever had and a generous portion also. It was a delightful lunch between the food, atmosphere and service.

Yelp
My daughter and I love the beer, battered fish on Fridays. Our server was very pleasant and attentive, and the atmosphere was amazing. Even on a rainy day. Each time we have to go downtown we always try and make it on a Friday for this reason.

Yelp
Had a delicious meal at Phoebes with a group of five people while in town for a School event. Service was super fast and friendly. Amazing menu offerings. Food was well Seasoned, well cooked and great ambience. Easy walking distance from Syracuse University

Yelp
I have not been here in over 30 years! I have been missing out. We had a lunch special of brisket ravioli with hunter sauce, the best bread in the world and then we needed more so we had a small Caesar salad and a small arugula salad( apples, Cranberries, candied pecans and red onions too). It was all excellent. The service (thank you Katherine) was super, the food arrived quickly from the kitchen, and the decor and ambiance were both relaxing. I want to mention that these ravioli were definitely homemade. Sooooo good. I was also reminded of their great selection of vegetarian options. I spoke to a lady in the restroom who was so thrilled that the women's room now has two stalls! Half an hour later, a lady at the bar was exclaiming about the great bathroom also! So there's that. Good lunch portions (not huge) for lunch. We will definitely be back here. So close to Upstate and Crouse hospital and many doctor offices. And right across from Syracuse Stage.

Yelp
We had a birthday dinner for my mom and it was great. The food was excellent and they were able to please two younger kids as well as two adults. The prices were high and the service was good, at times slow, but kind and attentive. I always appreciate the vibe at Phoebe's which is cool and hip but not trendy; traditional yet not stuffy. Always a chill atmosphere in a good location.

Yelp
We showed up for our reservation and were told that only soup and salads were being served due to an unexpected emergency in the kitchen. We sat down, but then based on soup choices, decided to leave and were going to go across the street to Francos. Just before we crossed the street, our server, Jess came outside and told us the kitchen was operating again. We went back and and still had our table and boy were we glad we decided to go back inside!! Our server was the utmost professional, so sweet and we were so happy she invited us to come back. We started with sundried tomato hummus, served with fresh vegetables and soft pita bread triangles,..delicious. My mother in law ordered the scallop entree with basil penne pasta, cherry tomatoes and red onion. They even held the mushrooms for her. I ordered the Pan serared halibut with the parmesan risotto in tomato flume and green beans. I can't even describe how the entrees were. They were incredible. The flavors saturated the entire dish. Our dessert was a warm apple tart with vanilla bean ice cream, salted caramel drizzle and whipped cream. Perfection. We had never eaten at Phoebe's in all our years here and I am so glad we did. I can't say enough about Jess' hospitality also. She deserves big props for going OUTSIDE in the rain and summoning us back in and making our dining experience so wonderful. We will definitely be recommending Pheobe's to others and will be back for a return visit soon!

Gary S.

Yelp
Stopped in to eat at 5:15 pm on a Thursday (not a weekend) and despite most of the tables being open they refused to seat us because we "didn't have a reservation." Most tables were open so it was clearly that we didn't look wealthy enough for the three hostesses to lower themselves. Im sure it was also because we looked like we didn't vote for Trump. Unless you're white, rich, and privileged you won't get service here.
google avatar

Moxie M.

Yelp
service was great and the interior is super cute! just didnt love the veggie burger :( but still a positive dining experience
google avatar

Yelp
Had a great lunch here! There's so many windows and plants in this cafe, it made for a very nice-casual lunch. We got the summer pasta which was yummy and light. The flavors were good and the corn and onion with that light touch of coconut milk made for a perfect lunch pasta. The flatbread was also refreshing with lightly cooked blueberries and delicious caramelized onions. Overall this was a solid lunch and as a bonus there are a good amount of vegetarian options here. Our waitress was also very clear and helpful.
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Dined here with a friend prior to a Syracuse stage show. Overall, I was not impressed. Our server seemed frazzled most of the time, didn't give us bread until we asked. The food was subpar. I ordered a soup and entree salad but I received the half portion. We had to be at the show, so I didn't say anything. Probably won't be returning for a meal anytime soon.
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Good coffee and incredibly filling + tasty veggie burger! Great place to have lunch; I sat by the window and enjoyed it immensely!
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
We loved it here, I wish I had found this place earlier during my time in Syracuse. It was a great brunch place and super cheap for what it offered. We order 4 entrees for the 6 of us and fed us well. It was quiet inside and we were a rowdy bunch. The service was so nice and so were all the plants indoors too.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
Nice restaurant, neat layout and interior design. I went for brunch with my cousin and her one-year-old daughter. I got the quiche special which was really good - had artichoke, fennel, tomatoes, and feta cheese. Really good! My cousin got the chicken sandwich, she said she loved the blueberry aioli. The kids order of chicken tenders came with about 4 large chicken tenders, great for an older kid, but so much for a toddler. She enjoyed eating my quiche more than the tenders tho!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
My wife and I have always enjoyed Phoebe's. Every time we have gone it's been such a pleasurable experience. Smooth, pleasant and quick service with really good to great food. Our most recent visit we had poutine, pork, duck, and berry tart. The holy cow that was fantastic awards goes to the poutine and tart, absolute must try options. The duck was cooked to perfection and my wife was thinking it may be one of the best she's ever had. The pork was very good, it had some wonderful juicy bites and also some dry ones though. Pork is my go to order and I've had better for sure, but that's not to be mistaken for how delicious it still was. We will continue to come back and enjoy it more in the future, I encourage you to do the same.

Morgan C.

Yelp
The service and ambiance was great, but the food was subpar, especially for the price. I ordered the fall salad and the autumn primavera. The greens in the salad were wilted, and the spiced apples tasted like a very diluted candle. The portabella mushrooms I added to the autumn primavera were a bit old and tasted off, the sauce was flavorless, and the noodles were bland and looked like something I'd get for 99¢ at Walmart.
google avatar

Mo R.

Yelp
We hadn't been back since before the pandemic and I'm so glad this place made it! We got cider mules, soup, salmon and the pork special and everything was perfect! Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Ashley Q.

Yelp
I had the french onion soup and creme Brule. Both were absolutely delicious! The french onion soup was of the best I've ever had. The sort of place where you can go for a casual lunch, a date, or for a reception. Will absolutely be back the next time im in town.

Yelp
My first time in Syracuse, try it out phoebes restaurant with my mom and sister, and enjoyed every bite. The atmosphere is not formal but really nice, cozy, and intimate. We tried the hummus and loved it. We also tried the soup of the day. I personally had the broiled haddock over risotto. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
My daughter has been living is Syracuse for the past 3 years . This place was amazing . I couldn't wait to come Every time I flew in . We had dinner last night , my daughters & her boyfriend order the burger . It was under cook , they change the bread . I had the clam chowder soup and salad . That was good . They did ended up discounting the bill . Not sure if it's under new management. The food it's just okay

Yelp
Waitstaff, reservation, and ambiance were just fine, but the food is lacking. Things started off a little off when the bar was out of Woodford for the Manhattan I ordered. This is not a particularly rare Bourbon - one would think they a bar would never be without a backstop The duck bacon wontons are crescent shaped fried turnover-like dough filled with cream cheese and corn. We could not find duck, bacon, or duck bacon in them. We left two of the six "wontons" for the compost. Looking forward to the steak and duck, we moved forward. Sadly, the steak meat had turned. Luckily, we had ordered it rare - and the smell of the rotten flesh was obvious. Though our server recoiled when smelling the meet, the manager did not acknowledge the bad beef. The risoto with the duck was bothering more than starchy rice. It did have a lemon flavor as advertised - but all the Italians in NY cringed. The duck leg itself was fine. Nothing special. Just a sus vide duck leg. The manager did replace the steak with Brussels sprouts. These were OK and scored a five out of ten by my Syracuse student. The best part of our meal was our extremely kind and patient waitress who has earned some points for this restaurant.

Molly M.

Yelp
Food was solid - everyone enjoyed their meals. We were most impressed by their ability to seat a larger table in the midst of a busy night with an event. We were seated quickly, food and drinks came as expected. Overall a lovely experience. We'll be back.

Yelp
So... if your momma and bestie are throwing you a baby shower - you definitely want to do it at Phoebe's. And you definitely want it to be a buffet. And you most definitely want it to be brunch. Why? Because their brunchy buffet starts with a 'French Toast Bake' which is drizzled with raspberry sauce and cream cheese and is SO GOOD! Then there's the option to choose a bunch of sides to go w/. My cravings at the time led me to select crispy bacon, breakfast potatoes (with peppers & onions) and a salad (to feel like I was being healthy). Everything served was excellent. In fact - the entire day was great. The staff at Phoebe's was super accommodating and made sure the room looked perfect before stepping back to let us enjoy the day. They worked with us to make sure we had enough/proper tables for everything (gifts, games, cake) and did it all smoothly. They also didn't rush us to clean up and get outta there - which is lovely b/c this lady and her belly were not rushing to do anything (except eat more french toast). A couple other notes: + Parking is available right next door to the restaurant. +/- The restrooms are adorable but super small... and all the way up front. If you have elderly or other preggo people coming for brunch/lunch it's just something to be aware of. + Portions are really nice. We had 30+ folks and still had a ton of french toast and bacon leftover to take home. - The iced tea is not sweetened.

Yelp
I had never thought to try out Phoebes in the past to be honest. I wasn't sure what was special about the restaurant. However, we decided to go in on a Wednesday night for dinner and I was blown away. First of all, the outside is cute but you do not expect the inside to look the way it is. It's huge, open, warmth, lots of light, and very lively. I was surprised how many people were there on a random Wednesday but that goes to show how great of a place it is. Despite this, there was plenty of room to make us feel we were at a private intimate dinner. They have many drinks to try from but I went for the lavender lemonade which was the perfect about of sweet and tart. We were recommended to try the French onion gratinee. I had never had French onion soup before but this was delicious! So much cheese and caramelized onions in a huge portion for just $5. The hummus appetizer was great as well. So much hummus that we ended up taking most home. I had the pork which was fall off the bone amazing. The mashed potatoes were so smooth and creamy as well. Finally, we went for the creme brûlée. We have decided we're going to go back to phoebes a bunch more times just for this dessert. It was the most perfect creme brûlée I've ever had!

Yelp
Wanted to find a safe place for date night and Phoebe's did not disappoint! We were perfectly spread out from others and the service still felt the exact same. The food came quickly and was delicious! I definitely recommend the Chicken Sandwich as the chicken had a kick of spicy and was so juicy!

Yelp
Good food with decent prices. Parking can be a little difficult depending on the time of day you get there. Service is good, nothing spectacular but no one is rude either.
