Where to Eat and Drink Around Union Station - Eater DC

"One of D.C.'s most famous and longstanding Irish bars, the Dubliner is the dean of the city’s pub scene. Even Barack Obama has stopped by on Saint Patrick's Day. The restaurant is open for both indoor and outdoor dining. —M.F." - Missy Frederick, Tierney Plumb

Great service. I always enjoy coming back. The floor / front door staff is unmatched. Doormen have a memory better than most librarians. Exceptionally accommodating receptionist. I had an early flight and needed to check into my room earlier, and I have never had a hotel staff so understanding. No wonder they've been open for so long. Service like that is priceless.

Google
Hotel is conveniently located near Union Station so easy access to the metro as well as other bus lines in walking distance. It is also within walking distance of the mall. The staff was friendly and professional, check-in/check-out was easy. The room was clean for the most part (some old sauces were left in the fridge from the last guest I assumed) but other than that it was great! I would recommend this hotel as it was convenient and provided a safe place to sleep after a long day of sightseeing!

My family and I spent a long weekend in Washington, D.C. visiting with family. We stayed at The Phoenix Park hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. I slept well while traveling, which is very important! The location is prime. We walked from the hotel to most of the museums and monuments we visited. Very convenient! The staff at the hotel were incredibly kind and courteous. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, The Dubliner, upon arrival. It was delicious - don’t skip out on this Irish pub. I would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend!

Google
This hotel truly deserves a 5start review. Great location, extremely clean, upgraded furniture and renovated rooms, a complementary 24/7 coffee bar with many options to choose from. The staff are friendly and offered us a larger room with street view. The vibe of lobby aligns with historic buildings in the neighborhood. I first gave them a 5star review. However, after checking out, I was charged $32 for facility fees such as wifi and coffee. Definitely not fair to guests since I expected more transparency from hotel when people want to make a reservation online. I should had the right to make an informed decision about choosing my stay. That’s why I changed the review to 3.

I stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel for a weekend back in 2022 and still think fondly of the experience. I booked through Hotels.com while I had Silver status, and as a nice perk, I received a voucher for two complimentary drinks at the Dubliner, the lively Irish pub attached to the hotel, which was a thoughtful touch. The room and bathroom were both very clean, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel felt welcoming and well-maintained. The front desk staff were genuinely friendly, and both check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient. One of the biggest highlights of this hotel is its location. It’s right next to Union Station, which made getting around incredibly easy. The area is very walkable and with easy metro access. There are plenty of great restaurants around. I really enjoyed my stay. It was comfortable, convenient, and memorable even years later. I would absolutely consider staying here again.

Wife and I spent three days here over Memorial Day weekend to visit son in military. Location was excellent, as it was just couple blocks from Capital and Union Station. All staff were friendly and engaging. There was an outstanding coffee station with numerous selections available. Rooms were good size, very clean, updated, and reasonably priced for DC area. As part of the hotel is the Dublander restaurant, an Irish pub, that was very family oriented , and a free drink per occupant was included in hotel reservation . The food was the best that we ever had at a pub , and we have been to quite a few . Again for DC area was reasonably priced. The corned beef was exquisitely tender with an excellent buerre blanc sauce , and the Irish cheesecake was not to be missed. Our stay exceeded expectations.

The room was perfect size, towels were super clean and sheets were clean too. Only complaint is that the sheets were undersized for king bed and revealed lots of mattress stains. Good amenities and great location too, literally a 5 min walk from metro station.

Google
Very convenient location near Union station. The staff allowed us to check in earlier when the room was available. We booked a room for 4 persons but the room is very small. Like the hotel which offers various types of beverages at 2nd floor and free self laundry 24/7. The Dubliner cafe at the hotel offered welcome drink, which we used it when having breakfast there. The food was good and the prices were reasonable.

Yelp
I've stayed at the Phoenix Park many times. We travel often from NY via Amtrak to visit friends and family and it's super convenient. It's a pleasant hotel with nice staff. The rooms are nicely decorated and we usually have a good view. I have two quibbles: 1. The pillows are terrible! Hotels need to realize that down pillows are awful. They were not comfortable! 2. They don't have drapes, only black out shades so the room is pretty bright. I never get a good night's sleep for both these reasons. But we will still continue to stay because of the location.

Yelp
We visited DC for the first time and I kept telling my hubby how we picked the perfect hotel. It's walking distance from the Capitol and so close to the Union Station, which happened to be Stop 1 for the Big Bus tour. We were there for only 5 days. We visited so many monuments yet there were so many places we didn't get to see. We will definitely be back and stay at this hotel another time. The Dubliner restaurant next door is an added plus!

Yelp
I stayed at Phoenix Park Hotel for a night this week when I was in DC for work. I was up on the top floor (9th), and the room was nice: great view of Union Station, nice furniture, well laid out bathroom. The lobby isn't great (tight, not much space, the front desk are these two weird little pods - hard to describe), but the front desk staff were nice. I would say that you feel and see the hotel's age outside the room (the lobby and elevator, in particular). The location is good and bad. It's convenient if you're taking the MARC or Amtrak and want to be close to Union Station. It's close to the Mall/Capitol/etc., but it's also just not the best neighborhood to be in in terms of proximity to bars and restaurants and things to do. Overall, a decent place to stay. I wouldn't mind staying again. But I don't think it's a great value for your money, either.

Yelp
Staff is very nice and friendly. Dubliner bar/restaurant conveniently located inside the hotel with access to get back and forth between hotel. Located right across from Union Station, so great location if coming by train. Only downside about this hotel is the rooms are very small even if traveling as a couple. There is also no desk or anything in the room so hard to work if using a computer unless you're in the bed. Overall decent hotel minus the flaws above.

Chris K.

Yelp
Incredibly happy with our stay at the Phoenix. Staff were excellent - everyone from the bellhop to front desk and room services were kind, friendly and polite. Great, great staff. Location was perfect for our stay at the- just a few minutes walk to the Capitol building.

Yelp
My daughter and I did a quick overnight trip to Washington DC for a taste of the National Mall. I was able to find this hotel just within a 5 minutes walk from the Washington Union Station. It's also walking distance to The Capitol. We arrived on a Thursday morning around 10:30 am from NYC via Amtrak Acela. I was checking to see if they would hold my overnight luggage so we could get started on exploring DC. To my surprise, they told me my room was ready if I would like to check in right away and I've been upgraded to a suite. The staff warned me that there's a spiral staircase to the loft where the bed is, if I would be OK with it. I was like, "Sure!" When we walked into the suite, my daughter and I were like, "Wow". My daughter really liked the layout of the suite. Even though it was only for one night, my daughter and I enjoyed the accommodation and the hospitality of the staff. The only thing I wish I had stayed longer to venture out of the National Mall. However, I won't mind coming back and stay here again since it's so close to everything.

Yelp
I paid for my wife and son to see the city and stay at this hotel for my son's birthday. I thought that this was a nice hotel and was work almost $300 a night. Yeah I was wrong..... Roaches Room smelled like piss When I tried to call and complain they didn't even let me finish talking cut me off and said "let me transfer you to housecleaning". Rude management. Also there is a hidden fee of $32 for drinks that they charge you basically a scam for more money that you don't sign up for. If I could give 0 stars I would. I do not recommend this hotel. I will never reserve this place again.

Yelp
Stayed here for a work event and really liked that: (1) They have 24/7 coffee, tea and hot chocolate in a small lounge area on the 2nd floor. (2) Super convenient location. (3) They let me check in early and really tried to work with me so I wouldn't have to work out in the lobby for hours before I could check in. Slight cons: (1) The first room I was assigned didn't have a desk, and since I'm a workaholic, I really needed a desk so I had to go back down to the front desk to specifically request a room with a desk. I thought all hotel rooms came with a desk?? (2) The first room I want to was quite small, where the bed space was so close to the small coffee table and two armchairs that I don't know if anyone could have comfortably used the table and chairs. Five stars for the room I ended up getting, not sure if I would've given it five starts for the initial room I was assigned, unless it was slightly discounted (which it could have been). Would recommend this hotel overall!

Yelp
How did we get a $700 charge for 2 night. Mgr responded to this with more lies. Even the steepest incidental charge doesnt creep the rate up to $700 for 2 days. This criminal like spin is another reason to avoid this sh!thole.

Yelp
Found this hotel to be a great choice for a family visit to our Nations Capital. Everyone was courteous and friendly. Rooms were fresh and very clean. Conveniently located. Also Loved the Dubliner restaurant.

Yelp
I found this place on Expedia because my son and I took a random trip to DC. The staff was so friendly. They let me check in my bags early, so my son and I could site see (we took the train there and didn't have a car). It's literally walking distance from union Station. It's a prime location for restaurants and National mall. You're blocks away from the mall. The room was clean and had great views. The shower was amazing and has two shower heads. There's free coffee, water and tea 24/7. And the coffee was delicious (there was specialty coffees). Such a great place and we'll be staying here next visit.

Yelp
Hotel was very well situated. Check in was a breeze and the staffl was amicable. Second floor has complimentary coffe and tea 24/7. The room was presentable and clean. Nothing out of this world but woulld suffice your needs. Room had a good AC a refrigerator ironing-board and Iron plus an umbrella. A very few drawers but really not necessary unless staying more than 2 days. A TV with good selection. Most importantly a very good safe. There is an adjacent connecting room but dont worry you wont hear your neighbor. All major historical attractions are near by so walking is a must. If you rent a car parking is $62 a day, but worth the price. Keep in mind that renting car would be to get it at the airport rather than the city. Chinatown is also near so walking should be good in your agenda. I do recommend the hotel as it would fit for a couple or your first time in DC.

Yelp
We selected the Phoenix Park Hotel because of its location near Union Station but will choose it again because of the atmosphere and staff. We arrived midday by Amtrak and stopped to see if we could store our luggage until checkin. We were surprised that we were offered to go ahead and check in because they already had a room ready. The front desk staff was professional and helpful throughout our stay. The coffee bar on the second floor was such a treat and available around the clock. The room was small but nicely decorated, very clean, comfortable and charming. We loved our view looking towards Union Station. As a bonus the Dubliner restaurant connected to the hotel lobby was great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate there 3 times during our stay and the food and service were great.

Yelp
I was in DC for one night and came in via Union Station, the Phoenix Park Hotel was only a 5ish minute walk from there. When I arrived the place was super clean and the staff were exceptionally helpful. They even got me checked into a room at 8am when my check-in was at 3! I had a problem with billing and they handled it super efficiently and professionally, and even offered me free drinks at their well known Irish pub connected to the hotel. Would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
This 98 year hotel is a cozy spot in the heart of downtown Washington DC. A short walk from the capital, this spot is full of charm, with updated rooms. The bed was comfy, with so many pillows my daughter got swallowed up! The best part is the 24hr coffee and hot chocolate maker on the second floor- shhh it's a secret! Upon arrival we were greeted with a smile and grace, along with VIP extras (free alcoholic drinks and chocolate) from booking with Expedia. The only part I didn't like was lack of free parking. The valet parking of the hotel was $65/night and the garage a block away was $36/night.

Yelp
Only stayed a night but it was great. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room and bathroom, plenty of body and face towels (and miscellaneous needs like lotion/shampoo/soap/makeup wipes). Incredibly comfortable bed. Close to Union Station and the Capitol/Mall, in a great area close to restaurants and cafes though the hotel is also connected to The Dubliner Irish Pub and Restaurant which is nice.

Yelp
I stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel on August 11 - August 16, 2022 and I can't recommend it higher. Firstly, the very personable staff - Robin and Karina at the front desk made me feel like I was at home. I hadn't been in Washington DC for years (2014 was my last visit) and it was as if it wasn't away at all. The hotels location was important because as I moved around, I didn't want to stay somewhere I couldn't get ride share easily to and from the airport, and if you're someone who likes to take public transport, they're close to Union Station. I even got DoorDash one evening for dinner so you're connected to lots of wonderful things. The room was a beautiful space that was spotlessly clean, comfortably temperature and plenty of amenities in the room. Even their vending machines have options that were acceptable but if you need room snacks and goodies, they're 1.5 blocks away from Union Station which has not only lots of food and beverage options, they have a Walgreens that you can stock your room with snacks and water/beverages. The bed was comfortable, highly fluff and perfect hotel bed experience. I mean that's why you stay in hotels, RIGHT? A nice Flat screen television with great sound; not too big or loud (since I tend to fall asleep to the television when I'm in hotels). Nice soft sheets, fluffy comforters (and cool considering this is August in DC). I didn't hear a sound, not even next door neighbor rooms and I was off of the elevator. They graciously upgraded my room AND they also let me check-out late? I don't know if that's because I had a special credit card. Either way, they treated me great. GREAT coffee and hot chocolate (free) on the 2nd floor of the hotel. What a nice treat before bed! Dubliner Restaurant directly connected to the hotel was great. I had several meals there (lunch/dinner) but they also offer breakfast but I pretty much slept in each day due to the comfortable beds and linens. I totally enjoyed my experience at Phoenix Park Hotel and couldn't recommend it higher.

Clean, comfortable, nice coffee area, and organized. Great location. Would stay again!

Yelp
A nice stay! Rooms are compact & European in size. That said, hotel has been well kept and is in nice condition with modern renovations. It feels old world and classy. Staff is charming and dedicated. They are taking the highest COvid-19 precautions at this time. I was so surprised to see the Irish touches here. The on-site restaurant is a Dubliner pub. I am very Irish, have spent time in Ireland, just recently lost my mother who was so proud of our heritage, and so I felt a connection to that. :D

Yelp
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable well the guy at the front desk is the only one I saw he greeted me and went above and beyond making sure I was comfortable next time I come to DC I might just have to come back because of the kindness he showed I didn't get his name but you guys should give him a promotion

Yelp
My husband and I came here for part 1 of our honeymoon. We arrived around 11:30pm and the staff was super nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant next door was no longer serving food, and the nearest food was at Union Station. Neither one of us were willing to walk that late in the evening. There were multiple homeless people around the hotel, and we were asked for money when the taxi dropped us off at the hotel. Instead, we decided to grab a drink at the restaurant and go to bed. The reason why I am giving this place 4 stars is for several reasons. The first, as I have already mentioned, the staff is very nice. Second, our room was super clean. Third, the hotel is in a good location (as a whole). During the day, I felt very safe walking around. Union station is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel which was helpful for transportation around DC and easy to use when we needed Amtrak to head to part 2 of our honeymoon.

Yelp
We coordinated our wedding block here at the Phoenix Park for out of town guests, and we were very pleased with the experience. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They helped with everything from check in, to moving bags, to helping find envelopes when we needed some in a pinch. Superb customer service! The hotel itself is nice. The rooms are quite small, but that is the only downside. The hotel had a quaint historic feel to it. We had the opportunity of staying in the Congressional Penthouse for our wedding day, and it was well worth the cost! The suite was spacious and beautiful! We wished we could have stayed for longer.

Yelp
Experience warm and friendly Irish charm in the heart of Washington, D.C. city at this historic luxury hotel, featuring old-world European elegance combined with all of the modern conveniences. Ideally situated only a short distance away from Union Station and the Red Line Metro, the Phoenix Park places you in the centre of the city. Area attractions, including the Capitol building, luxury shopping and world-class restaurants are all located within walking distance of the hotel. about 10-15 minute walk to the Capitol and about a 5 minute walk to the Metro Station that has tons of food and shopping options. While there is no complementary breakfast, there is free morning coffee and tea service available on the 2nd floor. One machine for "fancier" lattes and mochas, etc and to get hot water though so little wait. They do have 2 large pots of regular coffee. Suggestion - should have one pot of hot water. Valet parking is available - $59 and yes on the 24 hr clock. Call for it - 15-20 mins before you need it. Got a nice king size room - DC pictures, photos hung around the hotel. Style is conservative, nice shades of blue and white, clean and reserved style. Room had a small fridge which was nice as i was eating out for every meal while in town. Bed was comfy, clean, bathroom had nice toiletries and even ear plugs if you are not used to city noises. decent water pressure. However - my bathroom, more specifically the shower, was dirty and never properly cleaned in my eyes (see photo of the soap scum that was on my shower head and never left). Additionally, the front desk staff was not overly helpful and most of the time didnt even bat an eyelash when i walked in and out of the hotel. Would highly suggest advertising the FREE National Mall Shuttle that picks up 1 street over from the hotel - called DC Circulator - and has 15 stops around the National Mall at a variety of monuments and museums.

Yelp
Great location, Union Station right across the street, after you walk out you see a view of Capitol . I never felt unsafe in area,. Hotel updated very nicely. Customer Service over the top nice from Doormen, Front Desk Workers and Housekeeping. Sorry I can't remember everyone name. Yes I would stay here again.

Yelp
How is this place not a 4 star at the least? Such a beautiful, clean hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. While staying here, you are so close to everything, you'll be able to walk most of the time, or catch a Lyft or Uber! I will definitely recommend this hotel to family or friends, and I'll stay again in a heartbeat!

Yelp
We found our new favorite hotel!! This place is a hidden gem. We stayed at another hotel the two previous nights and my kids were so sad to leave the breakfast buffet there. However, AS SOON as we checked into this hotel - they were thrilled!! The front desk staff was friendly, welcoming and great with the kids. Our room was immaculate, smelled amazing, and then there were the beds!!! The beds and linens were the comfiest we've ever experienced at a hotel. The hot chocolate machine on 2nd floor was a hit, the robes were great, and the shower was amazing!! We did not love the loud intermittent fan noise, but found once we ran it on fan mode (constantly on) it was great white noise., We had a Capitol tour the next morning and the Corner Bakery was right next door, and so convenient. It was an easy walk to the Visitor's Center. I'm pretty sure we found our new favorite hotel in the District, and we'll for sure be back!!

Yelp
We were in and out in less than a day, so unfortunately we didn't get to test out ALL of the amentities but - - - we sure did get a lot accomplished in 1 day. If you are planning on coming to DC to do the touristy things, this is a great catch. It is affordable, clean enough, the staff was friendly, it is local to a lot of main attractions. Some in walking distance, others, just a short Lyft or Uber ride. Things we were able to do/ see in an Uber ride for well under 20 bucks each, or walk to: -The US Capitol Building and Gardens (beautifully lit, quiet and almost romantic at night) -The Library of Congress (all 3 buildings) -The Lincoln Memorial, reflective pool and National Monument (again, all stunning in the evening) -Dinner and Drinks on M Street -The Smithsonian (got about 3 museums accomplished) I called and asked if we could check-in early, as we arrived to town a bit sooner than later and we were promised a room ready immediately, for NO extra charge! The valet was lovely. Everyone with a smile on their face. Check in and out were easy. Do yourself a favor and just go ahead and do the $62 valet, there is no sense in lugging your bags across that busy street and you aren't really going to move your car much anyway, unless you are planning on driving far and then paying ANOTHER fee for ANOTHER garage. If you are looking for a boutique vibe, I mean, this is an older hotel and has some character. Plus, having access to the restaurant and bar downstairs directly connected, is really cool. But don't expect anything "special" in your room. It comes with the absolute necessities, so if you plan on spending time in your room for any reason, maybe not the place for you. For us, we needed to change, sleep, shower and have a safe place for our things. I'd certainly stay again.

Chara B.

Yelp
There were not three people checking out of the hotel. There were TWO ppl with three coats. That were wore for separate occasions. We were driving back in sweaters and hoodies and did not need the coats at the time hence why they were left. I called the same day as checkout to report the left items and even spoke to the gentleman who had booked the suite after us. He said no coats were there when we spoke to the front desk they said they would checked the room as it wasn't occupied. How is that so? How do explain housekeeping coming to the room and cleaning it while a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign was on the door that was given to us by the house keeper herself . A mystery? No. The coats were stolen by your staff.

Yelp
This is my go-to hotel when staying in DC. It is conveniently located right nearby Union Station, the National Mall, and some great restaurants. The staff are always super friendly, including the housekeepers. The 24-hour coffee and tea service on the 2nd floor is also a highlight for me. As someone who drinks coffee essentially nonstop, this is extremely convenient. The hotel rooms are extremely clean. The one thing to note is that the pillows are made with "down". I am allergic to these, so a quick call to the front desk and I had different pillows brought to the room. I highly recommend this hotel for any quick or long stay in DC.

A hidden jewel in the heart of the city. Modern decor, excellent staff and an on site restaurant. Convenient for a night out or sightseeing. We will be back!

Yelp
So it doesn't look like much as a hotel. The lobby is rather small and the parking at the front is awkward and small. But this hotel really surprised me with how comfortable my stay was. The staff were all accommodating and cheerful. From the lobby staff, to the valet, bellman, housekeeper, everyone was attentive and cheerful and made me feel at home. The housekeeper always greets you and is very willing to make sure we had enough towels, soaps, anything. The lobby people recognized me after staying there for four nights and remembered an outstanding question that I had. Valet guy always held the door for me and the bellman also brought me to the car when it was raining + even asked the car to move up a little so that I can avoid jumping over a massive puddle. The staff made me enjoy my time here. Aside from the staff, the facility was also comfortable. It definitely is a smaller hotel. The elevators allowed only a max two person capacity, the lobby was small, and the room we had was also small. But the hotel compensated for it in other ways, with impeccable service and an efficient elevator + also the most comfortable bed I've probably ever slept in. The bathroom was tight even for me a tiny person, but we made good use out of the space. This gym also has a gym! And I noticed that the gym had a nice area for yoga and floor exercises. They also offer free headphones in case you forget yours for the gym - this is so considerate! Plus towels are wrapped and there's also a water cooler in there. The last thing that I fully abused was their second floor area where they have apples, and free coffee/tea/hot chocolate. It reminded me of being at work where they have those fancy machines that make you nice drinks. There's also a microwave on the second floor, not in the room. Overall, I keep thinking about that bed and how I wish I had that bed at home. I highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp
Honestly, this is the best hotel experience I ever had my whole life. The expectations were beyond met, like it blew me away how generous the services were. The staff were friendly, and even provided some flexibility for my personal issue with scheduling. I can't say much about the restaurant, but the local Corner Bakery was seriously amazing. Great breakfast and just really yummy. One amazing thing that impressed me was the in-room delivery for towels and amenities. It was quick and the view was splendid. Also this is super close to Union Station, like it's crazy how affordable and quality this hotel is. But, one issue has to addressed. This isn't the issue with the hotel it self, but the location. The road between the hotel and the station usually has homeless people. At night it can be scary, so take that to consideration if you're interested in the station. Especially if you're alone or with kids, but don't let that detour you if you don't mind going a slightly longer route. The location is great besides that. Limes are accessible, and the monuments are super close. We're literally across the street from National Postal Museum and The National Guard Memorial! Coronavirus. Let's talk about that. People are safe in this location, and all the stores provide hand sanitizers and safe options. Housekeeping isn't daily, but that's for the safety for everyone. Instead they offer options to deliver it straight to you. It's fantastic. I recommend it.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Located close to the Capitol. The rooms are clean and modern. The part is the hotel is connected to an Irish pub! Highly recommend.

Yelp
If I could give this hotel negative 5 stars I would. I had them booked for an event that got canceled due to COVID. They gave me not a single dollar of a refund, and after some back and forth, they agreed I could reschedule the booking within 30 days. They told me it was noted on my reservation. I called back not even a week later to reschedule and after being on hold for 20 minutes and a call back with no answer, I finally got ahold of them for them to transfer me to two different reps and tell me there was nothing they could do to help me. They did not honor the booking change they told me I could have, they did not refund me a single dollar. Horrible customer services, total lack of empathy and zero care for their customers. Save your time and pitch a tent - you'll be in better luck on the streets rather than wasting your time and money on this hotel and a complete joke of customer service.

Yelp
Great location, great pub downstairs....only issue was a huge cockroach in the bathroom.

Yelp
Last month my sister stayed here for 4 nights for a birthday trip. When I called to arrange an in-room surprise for her at check-in, the Assistant GM made it happen for me. He went above and beyond to help create such wonderful memories on their trip. A+ service! My sister said her stay was completely wonderful, the room comfy and clean, and the staff so welcoming and helpful.

Yelp
This is by far one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. First we drove from Houston to Memphis. Stayed the night in Memphis and got up at 6AM to make it to DC. Got caught up in traffic so I called the hotel to make sure they would hold my reservation. I was quickly rushed off the phone but told I would have my reservation still. I got to the hotel at 1AM. There was a rat outside of the hotel doors as I pulled up. I was just ready to get my family in the room so I overlooked it. The three ladies that checked me in were friendly. The room was terrible! I had read the reviews of the hotel and was extremely disappointed by what we saw. You could hear the neighboring rooms which means they could hear my 2 and 6 year old. Keep in mind its 2AM by the time we get in the room. The room was dirty and HOT. My wife found a lot of hairs in the bathroom. There was no where to store our clothes. We were staying for 2 nights and had actually booked another night before I saw what the room looked like but quickly cancelled the night once I saw the room. We set the AC to 65 and it didn't get cooler than 73/74 the whole time we were there. Ended up not sleeping until 4am because of having to clean the room and the temperature. Had to turn around and wake up at 8 to put money on the parking meter I had to use because the garage was closed by the time we got there which meant we had to park on the street. Decided to leave in the morning and just not worry about the money I'd lose out on; however when I went down to check out the front desk attendant didn't even bother to ask why I'd be leaving a 2 night stay after only having been in the room for a total of 8 hours. She did however state that I would have to pay for the duration of the nights booked. I felt it was extremely rude and unprofessional and just terrible customer service. I will say I have since spoken with the Director of Sales and have received a full refund for the duration of my stay. She was actually the best part of the hotel stay. I can tell she cares about the service at the hotel although the service I received was terrible. I just felt the need to write the review because I'd hate for someone else to go through what my family and I did.

Yelp
Loved our stay at this hotel. It's an older building with lots of character. The location is great, right by Union Station and the Metro. They've done a great job on the interior, with a beautiful lobby. Staff were friendly. Our room was really nice and modern, yet with some vintage charm. There's no pool here, but the fitness center was nice. Price also was very reasonable. I would definitely stay here again when in town.

Yelp
Noisy, dirty, and lacking professional staff. I was surprised by how dirty the hotel was. Dust was caked on parts of the room I was in (including the tissue box-which was gross). The sheets smelled stale, and it was just overall disappointing. The front staff lacked professionalism and the polish that I'm used to at other hotels (especially in the DC area). Perk? The Dubliner being downstairs was an easy go-to place to enjoy food/drinks.

Yelp
Pretty decent stay. At check in, the valet attendant could have been a bit more attentive and affable. But, the front desk staff made up for his lack of customer service skills. King bedroom was cute and chic. Bathrooms a bit small but I suppose that's due to the older architecture of the building. They provided plenty of toiletries. Really nice fitness room and good in house restaurant. One pretty considerable drawback is that they use a 3rd party garage for valet parking. We had a situation with my friends vehicle having some substance drip on it from a leak in the garage. I was refunded a night's fee as compensation but had there been more considerable damage, liability issues would have definitely ensued.

Yelp
My long-distance girlfriend and I were seeing each other after a nine-month hiatus and we found this property to be affordable, close to the city center, and near a wide variety of public transportation. After arriving from DCA through an Uber and walking into the lobby, we were attended to immediately by Derrick at the front desk. He was very friendly, helped suggest a few places to go, and even managed to get us a room with a view. We were up and in our room in less than 5 minutes. On a side note, the elevator announced where it was going and what floor we were stopping on, which is very convenient to us as we are visually impaired. The rooms themselves are a bit small, but laid out in such a way where they use all the space available. Each room has a coat rack closet, a mini-fridge, a desk, an ottoman, a TV, a lounge chair, and an end table. Everything about the room has a modern feel to it with rich, blue accents and black and white marble counters. We made use of the entire room and then some. Our requests for extra amenities were met so quickly they were practically walking behind us. Even when it was time for us to leave, the staff went above and beyond and let us stay an extra few hours to freshen up before our flight. All in all, we literally couldn't have asked for a better place to stay - especially for the price and the location. When our paths cross again and we end up in the nation's capital once more, the Phoenix Park Hotel will definitely be at the top of our list.

Yelp
This hotel was so cute but very basic. It is in a nice location on North Capitol and down the street from union station so a good hotel to stay at if planning to travel via the train. The room has very modern but minimalistic furniture. Not much decor or pictures on the wall but it was clean which is very important. I enjoyed the Irish Restaurant attached but would have enjoyed more a voucher for breakfast as the hotel provided none. The ice machine on our floor was broke but also valet is the only option for parking and cost $59 a day. For that price I was not expecting my car to be returned to me damaged and when the staff who pulled my car up showed me he had me go inside and speak with the front desk who called their manager. They comp'd me one night stay if my two nights and said the parking g garage is not their responsibility although they use it for valet...new contract needed and I still paid for my truck. I was given the number for the parking garage and when I called they said policy is if a car is damaged in the garage you must not leave without an attendant seeing it, taking pics and doing an incident report. They said the hotel staff knew this and therefore since the truck was brought to me as it was valet they too were no longer liable. I say all this to say you pay the price but do not think your car will be safe. The hotel could have done more. Would not intentionally look to book here again. I will say though the sheets and bed were exceptional very high thread count.

Yelp
Stayed here this weekend and it was great. Room was small but had everything I needed and the bed was comfy. The staff was terrific - very helpful and nice. I particularly liked the door man, he was so kind. Great location!!

Yelp
Worst customer service experience I've ever had booking a hotel. I accidentally booked an "accessible" room online through Expedia. Called within the hour to change it bc I didn't want to use up a room for another person who would actually need it those accommodations. They refused to change the room without incurring a change fee and a higher rate for a smaller room. I also had to add a night and then required me to cancel (with cancellation fee) and re-book so it would double hold on my credit card for 10 days. Ultimately cancelled room altogether bc of the difficulty in accommodating simple requests. Worst experience ever.... No less for trying to accommodate other guest who would need that room the most.

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions over the past 2 decades and I am always impressed at the cleanliness, comfort, and exceptional service provided by this property. Rooms are well equipped and the staff are always cheerful. I recently had the pleasure of meeting the hotels Assistant General Manager Mr Derrick Strickland Jr. who went out of his way to ensure my stay was flawless. His leadership style embodies professional and polished service which is in turn reflected through his team who treat their guests with kindness and grace. If your ever in town, please consider staying here!

Yelp
I'm a DC snob, I prefer Georgetown and DuPont circle but my sweet husband planned this trip and chose the hotel based on location (we were going to a capitals game). The hotel is easy to find with a beautiful view of the Capital building. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There's free coffee and a latte/hot chocolate machine on the second floor. Valet parking is available for $60 a day. The rooms are very tiny no closets but the bathrooms have a nice rainfall shower and comfortable beds. We could not find any local shops for water etc and there were no vending machines. The hotel has the Dubliner restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner but gets packed quickly with a very overwhelmed staff. The hotel corner is home to a very mentally unhinged homeless man and his friends that will hassle you and get in your face, some staff shoos them away some just take the oh well approach. Elevator is tiny so be wary with large suitcases or strollers.

Yelp
A nice hotel centrally located in Washington DC. I really appreciate the actions that the hotel has taken to protect its guests including signs, hand sanitizer stations, plastic guards at the check-in counter, etc. The process for checking in and checking out was a breeze. Very modern design in the room itself.
