Tony met with James Syhabout, a chef and restaurateur behind two-Michelin star restaurant Commis, in San Francisco. They had a bowl of khao piak sen, or Lao noodle soup, which is James' first dish he seeks out once he gets off the plane. The dish includes crispy sliced pork, blood cake, meat broth.

This is a proper, functional market, and is a fascinating place to visit. It is not designed for tourists. It sells everything from vegetables to clothes and snacks and meat and fish. A word of warning: don't go to the butchery section unless you have a strong stomach. All in all, if you want to get a sense of where the locals buy their produce, this is the place to go.

I came here actually looking for magnets as souvenirs instead of buying them from the night market. I actually found everything except magnets, which was ok. U can find food, to candy, to clothes, cell phones watches, self care products, up stairs has all the gold shops, while I was in there I found a hairdresser, I got my head shaved for 50k Kip, and bought a bag of candy for 25k, I’m sure this is where a lot of people in the area go to get there items. There were boxes and boxes of items sold like it was a big box store. This is for sure the cheapest place to get stuff.

Phosy Market is a quintessential Southeast Asian open-air market, offering a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. You can find just about anything here, from fresh produce to local goods and trinkets. The variety of fruits and vegetables on display looked incredibly fresh, making it a great place to stock up on local ingredients. One of the more eye-catching sights was a baby buffalo for sale—definitely a jaw-dropping moment! It’s an interesting and authentic market experience, and worth a visit if you’re exploring the area.

a very local market. 20-30 mins walk from city center. on the way there are so many shops and banners in chinese, almost like a small town ln rural china. at the market, we didn't find any tourists. good to have a glance at local people's daily lives. the quality of foods and drinks are challenged due to strong sunshine, some of them seemed not fresh already, so we didn't touch. but inside the building were a huge space of various small shops selling clothes and bags, quality were decent, price were low. we bought a "Jeep" brand bag at 5 dollars.

Great atmosphere for a genuine experience. A true Lao market, you can find literally anything, from meat to fish, to veggies etc.. Our guide helped us understand local ingredients for Lao traditional dishes. We tried many snacks and had a great time!

One of the largest markets in Luang Prabang. Great fresh food selection at cheap prices including lots of unrefrigerated meat. Best go for the fruit and vegetables! Lots of clothes with knock off international brands but often only in smaller sizes as sales are primarily for locals.
