Beloved by locals for soulful pho, bánh xèo, and rice plates, cooked by owners Dat and Phuong from family recipes. The Post and Courier spotlighted the couple’s story and the restaurant’s quiet excellence on Rivers Avenue.

Google
Authentic and very good. You know it’s good when you see a random Asian kid sitting by himself with an iPad because his parents are working the kitchen. Also the music gotta be old school which adds a nice touch. Broth for the pho dac biet is superb. No sriracha or hoisen needed. Wished I lived closer so I can make this spot a weekly eat.

Google
Authentic Pho!! 💜 Highly recommend this place. Everything was delicious. from the pho to the crispy pancake. The atmosphere was cozy, service was friendly, and prices were very reasonable. They also have plenty of parking, which is a big plus. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving great Vietnamese food!

Absolutely delicious! Don’t pass this by. Crepes were amazing and Spring Rolls were the best!

Google
Pho is fantastic, but also a great place to try other authentic Vietnamese dishes. Pictured is Goi Xao Xa, lemongrass chicken. Spring rolls are a must too!

Google
Don’t be fooled by the exterior, this is the best pho in Charleston. Cozy interior, friendly staff, and most importantly delicious food. The broth is authentic. The fresh rolls are big. The crab Rangoons are amazing. They even do real Vietnamese coffee.

Google
Takeout is my go to here. Rare beef pho is the move. Top notch broth and great service, they always hook you up. Inside is cool but I never have much time to look around cause the food is ready fast!

The food was so nice! No pics of my appetizer but my main course, the fried chicken was so amazing!

Google
This place is a gem!! The atmosphere was inviting and authentic. The people who worked here were so kind and helpful. And on top of that the food was delicious!! 10/10, can’t wait to come back.

Yelp
Have been many times. Used to be our favorite but not quite the same as it used to be. Service is friendly and efficient. Pho satisfies the craving and the noodles are a delicious go to. Used to adore the fried spring rolls but they're just not as good anymore. No longer come with fresh veg and herbs, are smaller and not giving that authentic flavor. Not sure what happened but we skip them now. A good place if you're craving Vietnamese and are in that area.

Yelp
My husband was out near here and I know we tried it "in house" a while back with a cranky toddler, so it was the best, but totally not their fault. Anyhow, my husband was working in the area and so he picked up food to go. For starters we got their Spring Rolls, but two orders lol! Spring Roll (Goi Cuon) (2 Pcs) Shrimp, pork inside Vietnamese spring roll. Served with peanut sauce. We also got the pork and shrimp pancake which is a Vietnamese style crepe with pork, shrimp and sprout side. Serve with vegetable plate and fish sauce. And for entree we also got Bun Dac Biet which Comes with egg roll, sliced pork, chicken, beef and shrimp. But we always sub chicken for extra other stuff.... The food was generous portions and so flavorful! I can't wait until my husband works in that area again, so we can try way more!!

Yelp
My middle son is heading to college again in a week - and I wanted a father/son Pho excursion - we bond over soup. Living in Summerville, it is a bit of a drive for Pho - but both of us love it. Decided to stop at a place I had never even heard of - and it was a good choice. Not the fanciest inside or out - but the food was GOOD. My son had chicken pho - and slurped it up - said it was 'really good' (teen boys are not known for intense descriptions). I was lured away from Pho by a picture of fried noodle special (chicken, pork, shrimp) - delicious- and trust me - it had to be to keep me from regretting the skip of Pho. Recommend - quality - fresh - good.

Yelp
Been a long minute since I've stopped at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area. Had a friends visiting from Germany so our group met them there since it was one of their favorites when they lived in the area. Started with Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon) and Vietnamese Egg Rolls. Outstanding as always. Several of us had the #50. Com Chien Dac Biet, basically fried rice with shrimp and meats...it never disappoints. Always a solid choice if you can't decide from their extensive menu. One of our friends had the Pho Tài and that's always a great meal here. Will be back once the weather cools to enjoy their Pho, that's Pho sure!

Yelp
Great Pho! Quick, attentive service and delicious homemade chili sauce. We enjoyed the rare beef slice pho- all the vegetables were fresh, too. Solid. Will return!

Yelp
I've driven passed for years and finally decided to stop. The place is very quaint but clean and refreshing. We were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was very thorough in making sure she understood what we ordered. We ordered pork wontons and I ordered #16 pho. The broth was sweeter than I have previously had. Normally I add Sriracha because I don't feel like I get enough jalapeño but I did this time. Very good Pho and I will be back for more!

Yelp
Excellent authentic Vietnamese food. Pho was very flavorful. I like to try pho in different places I travel and this place does not disappoint at all. Good portion size and affordable.

Yelp
I've heard rave reviews about this hidden gem! Phuong offers so many appetizing dishes. I got #21 which was a seaweed broth egg soup with shrimp, wontons, and pork. We did a carry-out option and the takeout was packaged nicely. The soup comes in a separate container to which you add the basil, bean sprouts, meat, etc. to the broth. Highly recommend the spring rolls with peanut sauce, the coolness of the noodles and shrimp with pork was a good texture. I forgot what my bae got, I think #66? Either way it was delish! I liked that my dish wasn't overly salty either. The staff is friendly and found the meal prepping to be quick! New favorite take-out spot.

Yelp
This is my #2, go-to for genuine Vietnamese meals and delicious tea. Not very big inside, but you gotta visit and enjoy the atmosphere and homemade and large portions of flavorful dishes. Don't let the area fool you, this is truly a hidden gem that's been around quite a while sometime.

Yelp
Did an order through DoorDash. We had fried wontons and egg rolls, I had the grilled pork rice noodle bowl, the girlfriend had the Com Bo Saigon. My grilled pork was pretty tasty, but the portion size of meat was a bit light for the price. The fried wontons were pretty over-fried and $6.50 was pricey for 5 of them given the size. The Com Bo Saigon was absolutely unappealing, nearly tasteless, and looked nothing like the picture. Overall, this wasn't a knockout meal, even by the standards of takeout food it was expensive (though... DoorDash tax so it may be an unfair comparison on price). But if I am paying $17 or $18 for a meal and I eat it all and I am still super hungry, that's an issue. I know Vietnamese food tends to be on the lighter side, but this was my girlfriend's first time trying it and she no longer has any desire to try it again. J.Ja

Yelp
This is a very good authentic option for Vietnamese food in the area. The customer service is always very good. They have some of the best fresh rolls I've had. I didn't get a pic sadly because they went fast!

Lizzie M.

Yelp
This is so so so bad. I can't believe I gave them another chance. Never again. This is the biggest rip off in Charleston. I've had the worst day ever and thought I remember this place being really good. Got the combination pho with extra bean sprouts and it's like a spiteful amount of bean sprouts that I paid extra for with little to no meat at all. The brisket that is there is grey and the metallic thinly sliced whatever this is, is thinner than air. Ridiculous. This place sucks.

Yelp
Great little hidden gem. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but the fast and friendly service quickly changes your opinion. The place is very clean and the food is awesome

Yelp

Yelp
This family restaurant serves delicious pho and other Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant is clean, the service is fast, the staff is friendly and the food is wonderful! I would definitely recommend Phuong Vietnamese Restaurant to pho lovers in the area.

Yelp
Delicious! Had the Vietnamese pancakes (savory, with pork), along with some fresh summer rolls. The ladies running the kitchen were kind enough to help me pick out the right dish.

Zharia J.

Yelp
I wanted to try this place close to my house and am pleased with the result. I got the chicken pho, bun bac diet and fried egg rolls. The service was okay, as there was only one waiter but he was working pretty hard. The pho taste pretty decent and the bun bac diet was also decent. I've had really good versions of these dishes elsewhere in the state so I can't rate them too high. But it's definitely filling and they give you a good amount of food. Not made at my choice tonight but it's not the best I've had. That said, I will probably try some more Vietnamese places around the area to see how they measure up. But overall, not a bad place to try.

Yelp
The most terrible and unauthentic Vietnamese food that we have ever eaten in our lives! The Vietnamese egg rolls that we ordered, looked like pieces of crumpled paper with uncooked content! Unbelievable! How could they dare to open a restaurant with this kind of unskilled cooking ability?!? The Vietnamese rice dish tasted horribly! The Meatball Pho tasted decent. The food is not worth the prices that we paid!!! Being Vietnamese, we never recommend this place to anyone who would like authentic Vietnamese food!!! Shame on this restaurant for offering awful Vietnamese food which embarrasses Vietnamese people like us!!!

Thomas M.

Yelp
Great food and service in a low key atmosphere. They are family friendly! We have a big family!

Yelp
I was stopping nearby to get my tire patched and had a craving for Vietnamese. Phuong exceeded all of my expectations. I spent 3 weeks in Vietnam earlier this year and the dish I had (#32) rivaled all of the good food I had on my trip. Luckily I was also seated next to a Vietnamese family who also ordered the #32 and suggested adding the egg rolls which came in the dish. Everything was fresh and flavorful, including the homemade lemonade. I'll definitely return!

Yelp
Being someone who prefers the meals I make at home to going out for a meal - I'm SO happy that I gave myself a night off from playing chef. Not only was the service amazing, the food was spectacular. I literally can't wait to go back for more! Best fried wontons I have ever had The spring rolls were fresh The pho - pho real?! So amazing! Tummy = happy this evening

Hannah D.

Yelp
Best pho ever! Very nice environment and large menu. Staff were very attentive and it was obvious that many customers were repeat visitors! It's definitely worth a stop when in the north area.

Yelp
Food Service Ambiance was all great. Definitely will go again & recommend to others. New place to go more often.

Yelp
Food was an awesome possum. Really authentic. Love the cold noodles best. My husband got a rice dish and he loves it lots too. This is my second time here and it did not disappoint. Love how the bean sprout was so fresh and the meat was all fresh non-chewy! We went super early 11-ish however there was already at least half of the place filled. Ample parking space around. Rivers avenue does get a little crazy during rush hour so I would totally recommend going non-traffic peak time.

Yelp
So for a small restaurant off the beaten foodie path, this place packs a nice bang for the buck. If you are coming here you'll be sure to notice, Phuong is in what looks like a little cape styled house as you soon pull in. I'm always delighted that there's usually a small crowd of people, a key indicator of a good restaurant in my experience. The menu is pretty simple and straight forward. The very first time that I ate at Phuong, I actually didn't know what some of the items were. The staff has always been friendly to help me understand what the dishes are and how they are typically served. I've discovered quite a bit about their food since my initial and subsequent visits. On this trip, I went for lunch and ordered the Bo Curry, which is a beef dish with a stir fry base. I ordered it as a #5, which provided ample heat and spice to it, but was not overwhelmingly hot. It was served with chopped lettuce and white rice which made the portion more substantial and filling. Even though Phuong was busy, I was surprised and delighted how fast my order came out. I had great service and look forward to dinning there again. Guten Appetit!

Yelp
Amazing food always so good can't go wrong. Great for large parties and the boba teas were good too.

Yelp
The Hungry Detective finally made it to Vietnam meets the Low Country...this place is clean and the attentive staff makes it even better!!! I had the Pho Tai with rare beef slices...it was freshly made and hot...accompanied with fresh cut basil and cilantro on the side(hot peppers, bean sprouts and limes)...awesome!!! The rice dishes at the nearby tables looked fabulous and I will return to try a rice dish. VERDICT: Guilty as sin for creating Vietnam flare right here in North Charleston.

Yelp
Absolutely love the Pho. The broth has a great flavor and the noodles are always perfectly cooked. Service is super fast and friendly.

Yelp
We love this place! They have amazing Pho & the staff is so friendly. Every time we want a comforting dish, we visit here! Such a hidden gem. I highly recommend!

Yelp
The best Vietnamese restaurant in Charleston, imo. Every single dish is delicious and authentic. I've had the pho (A+), egg noodles (A+++), and another dish that I can't remember the name of right now (but A+). My favorite thing on the menu is the fried egg noodles. Amazing flavor and thin noodles cooked to perfection. And y'all. Don't leave without ordering the Vietnamese coffee! This coffee is rich and SO GOOD. It makes Starbucks coffee taste so watery....trust me, don't leave without it. The atmosphere is very warm and genuine, with lots of art on the walls. Parking is very accessible and the location is right next to H&L Asian Market, which is a double-win. My husband and I usually head to H&L after eating at Phuong to try to re-create the goodness we just ate, but it never works.

Yelp
Today was my first time visiting here and i LOVE PHO, so i go and find them to try them out. However their pho was disgusting to me and because i ate some they wouldn't take it off my bill. I sat for an hr waiting to only have half my pho taking off. Plus, you don't get what you pay for at all ! I've been to multiple vietnamese restaurants (once again) and this is the worst yet! If i can give it less than 1 star i would.

Brent W.

Yelp
The pho was really tasty. It was certainly the best pho I've had in Charleston to date. Good, flavorful, and fresh. Service was quick and friendly, with orders being taken in a timely manner and food arriving without a long wait. The restaurant appears to be on the older side and could perhaps be slightly cleaner, but this gripe is more of an aesthetic one than a safety one. I did not find any issues that called into question my own health and safety as a customer. Overall, I recommend this spot for anyone in Charleston who's looking for some good pho or other Vietnamese food.
google avatar

Yelp
Now this is one more delicious restaurant! If you love Vietnamese food this is your place Appetizers are delicious, spring rolls etc. The Pho is incredible-challenging to choose which one, flavor. The wait staff is personal and very friendly and can be helpful for newcomers. You can tell nothing but the freshest ingredients are used in preparation Looking forward to my return trip

Yelp
Beef Pho: The food here was definitely NOT authentic Vietnamese food. The beef pho was very bland, did not have the right pho taste (such as star anise, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, fennel seeds, coriander seeds) and it was too sweet. Beef pho should have a beefy taste from the beef bones. This one did not. They probably used chicken bones and very little beef bones or no beef bones at all. That's why the broth has a light color instead of a dark beefy color. I know because I cook beef pho at home all the time, also my Mom was a Chef. My husband had the lo mien, which was better. Rude Encounter (and some advice): If the waiter/waitress asks if you want water then just say "yes" even if you don't want to drink their free tap water. I always carry my water bottle with me every time I leave the house so I usually refuse tap water at the restaurants, because many times it's unfiltered or taste really nasty. Any way, so I had my half-drank water bottle with me and said "no" when they asked my husband and I if we wanted water. I was trying to do them a favor, so they don't have to wash two extra glasses since I wasn't going to drink it any way. But after the meal, the owner came over and rudely told me in Vietnamese "next time don't bring any drink" to her restaurant. This is the first time in my entire life that I've ever been scold for having my own bottled water in a restaurant. We've travelled and dined in many restaurants around the world including Europe, Bora Bora, Fiji, Australia, Asia, Tanzania, and have never been scolded for bringing our own water! We always carry a bottle of water when we're on vacation.

Yelp
Friendly, authentic, fast, reasonably priced Vietnamese food. Good service, hole-in-the-wall ambience.
google avatar

No H.

Yelp
I am a pho snob and this is the one place i can have pho at when I'm too lazy to make it at home. Overpriced in my opinion and comparing to what I have had my whole life but again there's not too many to choose from so you do the best you can with your options. The staff is nice. Can't remember the waiters name, tall white guy but he's super nice. My boyfriend and I like him and feels he does a great job. 14 bucks for a large bowl and 17 i think for the extra large which really is the same size just double the noodles. The only thing my boyfriend complains about is that there's no alcohol there. But over all this is Our go to place for pho.
google avatar

Kathy D.

Yelp
The pho was good! The service was amazing! I love the ambiance because it reminds me of home cooked food!
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
The most authentic Vietnamese we've found. Down the road, very close to H&L Asian grocery. Great stop before or after your asian grocery haul.
google avatar

Terinna C.

Yelp
I must have went on a horrible day because it was not good pho. My mouth was left very dry which tells me they used a heavy amount of msg to get their broth. The amount of noodles in the bowl was good but the meat... I had a couple of QUARTERED pieces of beef meat balls, a gangly couple of over cooked beef slices, and I'm not sure where the brisket was. They were also so expensive for the amount of food I had. I guess I'll try again another time but for now, there are much better places in Charleston to go to for pho. I do not recommend this place as a first option.
google avatar

Jennivie C.

Yelp
This place has definitely changed and the food is not as good anymore. We haven't been here in awhile and we usually order pho and spring rolls. This time we ordered the same but also added chicken fried noodles. The pho broth was ehhh.. the spring rolls was so tiny and the chicken noodle was mostly mung beans and barely any noodles. Kinda disappointed, hope to find a good pho spot
google avatar

Cathy L.

Yelp
Second time here, much better than first, which was a year ago. Hubby and I ordered #15(pho with brisket, rare beef, tripe, meatball) I got it without meatballs and It was perfect. Broth was hot in temperature the whole time, which in most pho places fail to achieve. The noodles were firm, the tripes were thinly perfectly sliced. Brisket and rare beef good too. Side veggies for pho was fresh. Restaurant was very clean. I am surprised I didn't like my first time here but second time was awesome. The fried egg rolls(usually called spring rolls?) were decent, I have had better
google avatar

Chelsi U.

Yelp
When I crave pho, I want tender meat and a delicious savory broth. This place has it down. I really enjoyed their brisket and rare beef pho. I made it a bit spicy and didn't mind at all. It really wasn't good the second day, however, which was kind of rare, since I've brought leftover pho home before. All in all, I'd come back. Word on the street is that the rolls are pretty good! So I'd consider trying other things on the menu as well.
google avatar

Altaïr I.

Yelp
Over the course of 3 years, I have been to this restaurant dozens of times. However, I am moving to another state because of military orders so I am giving this place one more 5 star review. I am truly grateful. Thank you for the delicious food over the years. Thank you for the courtesy of the staff. If I find myself in the area I will make sure to dine in your restaurant again.

Yelp
Shreds pork. Overpriced. Taste ok. Not fresh. Barely no meat. Noodles is soggy. Don't get this dish.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!!! The pho #16 and #24 are da bomb!!!!! I have been a repeat customer for a year now and it is always delicious!

Yelp
Love the pho and fried spring rolls. Lemonade is good but not too sweet. Service is fast.

Yelp
Wife: why do people give this place 4 stars? The bun bo hue broth is not supposed to be the same broth as that of pho! The My Wong Ton was okay. Bun Bo Hue Anh Am (SJC), we miss you!!!!!

Yelp
AHHH the quest for Good Pho in Charleston led me here. Firstly, its a hole in the wall, but it is clean and roomy. I was greeted immediately by the hostess and give a seat. I reviewed the menu and ordered the spring rolls and the Beef Pho. The food came out quickly. The spring rolls were "okay" they were actually a little warm which turned me off a bit but the flavor was good. The Pho was tasty, the broth was clean and the fixings were fresh and plentiful. The portion was spot on and this Pho, while not the best I've ever had, fit the bill.
