Best Phoenix Breakfast Restaurants | Eater Phoenix

"This low-key Melrose spot lives up to its name: It’s a kitchen set up in a tiny house that specializes in burritos. Due to popular demand, it now opens earlier at 7:30 a.m. and people hustle in to dig into plates of huevos rancheros or attempt to finish huge — seriously formidable — burritos. Choose your meat and add fillings like jalapeños, potatoes, and grilled onions. The spot also slings carne asada and machaca burritos, for those who want a more filling start to their mornings." - Jamie Phillis

Google
The tortillas are very fresh and the menu is simple enough to please all parties and not be overwhelmed. They have great salsas and horchata as well!

aangelstardux

Google
12 dollar cane asada burrito for a bean and rice burrito seriously don’t call it a carne asada burrito if it’s not really going to have any meat this place just to be good but now it’s worse than Filiberto’s across the street

Google
Dropped by for a chorizo breakfast burrito, so glad I did. I had a great chat with the owner while I waited for my order, what a great guy. Would definitely come back here if I lived here. As for the burrito, so good. Had it with the green salsa which just put it over the top. Great job PHX Burrito House, you've got a customer for life. This will be my go to whenever I'm in Phoenix.

Google
The food is awesome and so flavorful. You get exactly what you ask for. My issue was with service. The young lady taking my order was rude, when I asked a few questions about substitutions.

Lorenzo Ventura

Google
Francesca You are so nice. The tacos here are amazing. I highly recommend that you get an asada taco; you can't go wrong with it, and the red and green sauce is on point as well.

Google
I’ve been coming here for years and was one of my favorite places. Lately, the experience has gone downhill. The staff at the counter seem visibly annoyed when you ask for any changes to your burrito. The meats used in the breakfast burrito taste very low quality, the potatoes are frozen/premade, and now the green salsa tastes and resembles the Herdez salsa bought at the store. On top of that, the burritos are least half beans. Y’all are cutting corners and it’s starting to show

Google
2 out of 6 of us enjoyed our meals. The main complains were: 1. The cheese used in the bean and cheese had the same consistency and taste of the kraft cheese singles. 2. The shrimp wasn't deveined at all, we ended up throwing them away.. 3. Sour Cream wasn't dispersed evenly and instead was just on the bottom of the burrito. We won't come back here unfortunately..

Google
Edited my review- this place has gone down hill over the years. Removed my five stars. Been coming here for years and it’s awesome to see how much the restaurant has grown and the best part about it is that the food is just as incredible as the first time I had it. They also have a patio for when it's nice out and the patio is such a vibe, I always try eating out there. I don’t want to leave out the awesome staff either! Super friendly people! Phx Burrito House is an iconic Phoenix restaurant that you MUST eat at.

Yelp
I must have driven by this place a million times on my way to work but never had time to stop in (or when I did, they weren't open). I stopped by this morning on my way to work to try out a breakfast burrito. I like my breakfast burritos with a lot of eggs and veggies and they have exactly that - a "veggie breakfast burrito". I got it to go and ate it at work. Service was friendly and quick! While I was waiting for my burrito, I scoped out the restaurant and there is a lot of seating inside as well as patio seating outside. They have some cool vintage Mexican paintings on the walls. Aside from breakfast burritos, they also have burritos for other times of the day as well as tacos and chips. They make their own salsa (both salsa Verde and regular tomato salsa) in house and it is very fresh and delicious. My burrito was excellent. There is a fair amount of parking in the small lot out front and it was not busy when I came, so it was easy to find a spot.

Yelp
We tried the House Favorite breakfast burrito and added cheese and ham and it was so good! Everything was hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The grilled onions and jalapeños gave it so much flavor, and both the red and green sauces were to die for. Definitely one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in Phoenix. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
Friend and I stopped here for breakfast burritos after a hike. We got the carne asada burritos and although it was food, there was hardly any carne in it! The salsa wasn't spicy but was ok. We loved the fresh tortillas. Overall it was a good brunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Carne asada burrito came wrapped in a perfectly toasted tortilla, the kind with just enough crisp from the flat top to tell you they care. The meat was lean, tender, and well-seasoned. Breakfast burrito with bacon was equally strong--eggs, beans, and just the right amount of everything. Refried, black, or pinto beans, your call. Spotless inside, fast friendly service, and a chill Baja vibe. Burritos built with balance and made to matter.

Yelp
I was in the other day for lunch. They have a good-sized parking lot, some outside seating on the front patio and inside seating. I ordered at the counter and my food came out quickly. The shrimp burrito was very tasty.
google avatar

Kiki L.

Yelp
Been coming here for years! One of my favorite burritos in PHX. I get a bean and cheese burrito with a chile relleno and potatoes always bomb!! Salsa is also great.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
I'm no stranger to chorizo breakfast burritos. I get there's a certain level of greasiness to be expected, however, this is by far the greasiest, and the burrito was 90% egg. The sparse potatoes in the burrito were dry.
google avatar

Yelp
We have been ordering burritos here in quesadillas for many years and we never have had bad service nor bad food. Simply the best. Fran is especially personable and so good at her job. We are so happy you are in our neighborhood.

Yelp
Great, tasty, and straightforward place for burritos. Seats both inside and outside. It's a chill place for some food. Came here at 1:00pm and it was pretty empty, assuming it was after the lunch rush. Carne Asada Burrito was solid. Portions were filling and it was pretty balanced with all the ingredients. Sauces are also good too.

Alicia R.

Yelp
Heck Yah! These burritos are the bomb!!The service is always amazing & fast. Thank you burrito house!!!

Yelp
After SBL and I tried a couple new coffee shops we were famished. We decided to try Phx Burrito House mmm Walking in we already knew we were in for delicious goodness. It's classic decor how you picture in your head. Cool paintings and a very cute patio area. We ordered the green chili burrito with pinto beans and SBL got the no filler asada burrito and an order of chips and salsa. (No drinks we were taking this home to eat) It was about $33 for everything. We got home and I took a bite of my burrito and that was all I could have. Was I a fool for ordering the green chili? THATS A BIG FAT YES! Aparently that is known for its kick and I didn't think things thru. I often think ketchup is spicy, don't judge me. Also the chips were even spicy to me. SBL was sitting and sniffling as he ate because his was so spicy too. Overall the food was so made with love and and had sooooooo much heat we had smoke was coming out of our ears. Mini Me said he could handle the spice and he took a bite of my burrito (after a warning) and started hopping around looking for a drink! Needless to say I felt like this place was over our heads in the authenticity department. The flavor was stupid good like no other, I mean hands down the most deliciously cooked pork and asada ever, but I just couldn't and that was a huge bummer. Side note Alexis was stellar. She was the hardest working woman in show business there. She was expediting orders, taking orders, answering phones, getting orders called in Togo, seriously give this lady a hand, Go girl! In conclusions this place was fantastic if you like the hot and the spicy, the very spicy. The place was clean and inviting, it felt like home.

Yelp
One of the best egg and chorizo burritos I've had in a long time. Location has a decent amount of parking and close enough to school to pick-up my order on break. Definitely visiting again!
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW!!! This place was soooo bomb. I ordered the egg, potato, cheese, grilled onion and grilled jalapeño burrito. I wish I added some type of protein, but either way it was so delicious. I liked both the green and red salsa, but they didn't have a spicy at all. It's very small inside and in the parking lot. The customer service was great! I will be back.

Yelp
I've visited this restaurant twice now. Both of my orders were placed online and I picked up in store. Ordering on the site was super easy and my order was made quickly. The restaurant is a hole in the wall, which is my favorite. It's good for a quick bite, I wouldn't recommend it for an actual dine in experience. First visit, I got a build your own breakfast burrito, which was pretty good, and I would definitely get one again. The amount of salsa included in the order was very minimal and I had to ask for more. The second time I came in, I got a carne asada burrito with even less salsa. I really don't understand why they are so stingy! It was pretty average at best, and the flavor of the ingredients was pretty bland. I saw a review that these burritos are big enough for 2 people and I greatly disagree with that. Overall, good burrito restaurant. I'd be curious to try out some other options but nothing stood out as outstanding.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was so salty we couldn't taste anything or enjoy the food. Had two different burritos, and an order of chips and guacamole. Everything was unbearably salty. Couldn't finish the food. Very disappointed, especially in light of all the seemingly glowing reviews here.
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
Huge breakfast burrito with flavor just as big. I chose eggs, chorizo, potatoes, and cheese. I used the red salsa and salsa verde on different bites and each salsa added another layer of flavor. The horchata is a great addition to an order. I took my order to go and live about 20 minutes away. Burrito was still hot and ready to eat when I got home. Service was fast and very friendly.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
So much food wrapped in a tasty tortilla!! Green sauce is where it's at! Burritos are huge, sauce is great and service was phenomenal. Will definitely visit again when in the area
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Fast and good service as well as the food. It is located in the Melrose area of Phoenix.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
Tasty breakfast burritos! When calling, very friendly on the phone taking my order. When arrived, plenty of parking and the restaurant was clean as I walked in. Greeted propane even knew it was me that was coming in by saying my name as I entered. Went back a few times and will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Stopped in to grab a chorizo breakfast burrito and a green chile pork burrito. Service was quick and efficient and plenty of spots to wait for your order. They have dine in with a few tables inside and outside. Our order was ready in under 10 minutes. The burritos are pretty big and can easily feed 2 people. The tortillas are homemade and super tasty. The chorizo burrito was really good. We added egg, cheese, potato and pinto beans. The green Chile pork burrito we added pinto as well. Both were really tasty and the family enjoyed. Would definitely stop in for a future burrito fix!
google avatar

Darya S.

Yelp
PHX Burrito House should be on your to-do list for a good, reliable basic burrito with fresh-tasting filling. I got the shredded beef burrito and it was muy delicioso. You can really sense that comfort food charm! The price and quality of fillings are standard, but the portion was fat with lots of meat inside. An extra star for the service, because I ordered takeout and asked them to bring it out to my car since my baby was sleeping in the back, and they were happy to do so! I appreciated this very much! Come for your quick burrito fix at an affordable local business!

Lauren B.

Yelp
It was okay. Definitely didn't live up to the hype. The burritos were overpriced and inconsistent. They barely gave us any salsa which was weird, because the salsa wasn't anything to write home about in terms of flavor. The tortillas didn't seem homemade and weren't great either. There are better places in the area to get larger, cheaper, tastier breakfast burritos.

Robb R.

Yelp
I'm sorry but this does not compare to So Cal burritos. Not even close and they are small burritos to be honest. I even ordered double meat and wondered where it was. I don't bother asking after the fact because it's just not worth it to me. Sorry, but there are better burrito n taco shops within 3 miles

Jenny M.

Yelp
Came here on my lunch break, the gentleman that took my order was nice and attentive. I ordered a carne asada burrito with black beans-rice sour cream and cheese. As well a a tamarindo drink. I received my order in less than 10 min. The burrito was amazing it came with a green salsa and a red salsa. The green salsa was ok however the red salsa is Amazing it is a tomatada salsa no to watery just right. The tamarindo drink was good as well. Will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Tia M.

Yelp
Sloppy poor quality service was good but the burrito was poorly executed I couldn't even eat it -sat morning they weren't busy - I won't be back 15-00 for a nasty burrito and water
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast burrito. Not too packed on a weekend morning. Cute bright walls. Kind staff. Will go back.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Very good hole in the wall joint! Tasty Carne Asada. Really good sauces - red, green and enchilada Inside and outside seating I'll be back!
google avatar

Raquel H.

Yelp
The services is great, everyone is super nice and attentive. It is a small place but we were able to get a table. The sizes are big so if you aren't a big eater you could probably share with someone. The salsa was good nothing wrong with it. It had good flavor and very little spice. The carne asada was just ok, the burrito needed something to help cut the heaviness of the meat, rice and beans. The quesadilla was also a great size lots of cheese. While everything was pretty good, the meat is not grilled like it should be to be consider carne asada. The name literally means grilled meat. I think if they could start cooking that in charcoal grill, the flavor would be amazing. Glad I tired this place out, would probably not be back tho. I didn't get to try any of their agua frescas
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
Love the PHX Burrito House. Have been going there for years. Everybody is always nice and friendly. I have not had anything bad there, always top notch. Sometimes it might be too busy but it's ok because it is well worth it. Also call your order in, that helps. YES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
google avatar

Ali R.

Yelp
Tasty meat! Cute quaint little spot. Pretty busy but we found seating outside. Got a thumbs up by all.

Ceez M.

Yelp
Food came out in under 5 mins, not only was the service wonderful and quick but the food was actually fresh and tasted amazing !!! 5/5 would recommend! Price is so good for what you're getting!
google avatar

Virginia B.

Yelp
So yummy! Got to go when visiting our son and it was really great! People think breakfast burritos are easy but no no no! This place was legit!
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Close but nothing great to report here. The burrito was so close to being very good. Not enough filling in the breakfast burrito lead to the tortilla being proportionally on the heavy side. No flavors really stood out to me on this, they could have added some more potatoes or some green chili and it would have elevated it for sure. I'd go back for sure but wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It's a borderline 3/4 star.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
Great good!!! Period! The place reminds me of Goa that has a shack like a vibe. Comfy, casual, friendly but the bonus is its food. We pretty much tried everything. If you are ok with spice, ask for their fiery sauce with Tacos or Burrito.
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
Delicious! We were down the street, so we popped in on a Saturday for lunch just before they got busy. The gal working the counter wasn't friendly or welcoming, but we got our food quickly. We both ordered burritos... they were good! The tortillas were buttery and yummy. I only wished there was a bit more steak. They were very rice-heavy. I'd still come back, though! I'd try the tacos next time. They do have a small parking lot.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Really solid breakfast burrito. It's everything anyone should or could want in a BB. I did not try the other stuff on menu but I would bet it's also money because ingredients make good food. H8ghoy reco this spot

Mel K.

Yelp
Yum! I've tried every burrito and they were all delicious. My favorite is the green chili pork, also the chicken is excellent and tender. Large portions, I always get two meals out of the burritos.
google avatar

Jon A.

Yelp
Great local place serving up amazing burritos. Always friendly service and they even gave an app to make ordering ahead easy. Support local and check this place out!
google avatar

Sherraine M.

Yelp
Phx Burrito House is still one of my favorite places to grab a burrito in Phoenix. From a regular burrito to a breakfast burrito you legit cannot go wrong. This past weekend we had a little friends get together and the featured meal of choice was Burritos of course. The shocker, I still have friends I did not introduce Phx Burrito House to (insert surprised face emoji). Needless to say, it was a hit! Just a heads up, if you're trying to make an order On the weekend, order ahead! Don't even attempt to call because they are busy! We used the Yelp online order to order ahead and it was an Hour pickup from the time we placed our order. If order store it can be 30 minutes - 1hr wait. I recommend ordering ahead. They also sometimes shut down their online order portal so continue to refresh until it reopens. Yes, the process sometimes takes some dedication but is worth it.
google avatar

Mari M.

Yelp
This is painful. I am a strong supporter of local businesses so this is not a fun review, but necessary. It was my first visit to PHX Burrito House. The place is adorable. I wish the only issue would have been that they mixed up my order. I ordered a side of pico de gallo and got a container of salsa when I arrived home. Although disappointing, it is forgivable. But... then I took out the chips, and this is what the bag looked like, wholly soaked in grease. The chips, although fresh, well... were greasy and too thick. Because of the great reviews, I moved on to the burrito with doubt but a bit of optimism. Sadly, it was very dry. I don't ever remember biting into a dry burrito. How is that possible? The chips I smashed and gave to the birds and, unfortunately, the burrito I threw away. How sad.
google avatar

Destiney S.

Yelp
I'm torn, the burritos are decent but the service the two times I've visited were horrendous. Girl working the counter said it was only her and the cook in the back but it would only take 15min...okay, so went ahead and placed my order. Took 45min. at that point, I just had to wait cause there's no where I could go and get lunch in time to be back for work. I heard her tell everyone after me that it would only be 15min. My review would be higher if you just told the truth! But no, now what would of been a good tasting burrito is just a burrito filled with lies. Second visit, I placed a phone order. Still wasn't ready when I went to pick it up and took almost as long. Again, my burrito was just filled with disappointment. I don't mind waiting for good food. Just TELL ME!!!
google avatar

Tanisha H.

Yelp
Came here for lunch after hearing such fabulous reviews. The carnitas taco was good. Carnitas crispy & well seasoned. The taco salad was underwhelming. I appreciate the no lettuce accommodation, I know it is an odd request, but it's who I am & a food allergy. Anyways, the carne asada taco salad, while devoid of lettuce, didn't bring me total joy. The carne asada meat was more like hamburger Pattie's that were cut up & used. I could totally be wrong but that was my take on it. Reasonable prices, except for the drink prices, & convenient, free parking location, will still not be enough for me to return. I was sad since I heard such fabulous things.
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
I've had the bacon, egg and a cheese breakfast burrito twice now and it is delicious! Fresh tortilla, fluffy seasoned eggs and crispy bacon. Both the red and green salsas are so flavorful. A nice family spot serving up great customer service and equally great food. Can't wait for patio weather to enjoy it outside.
google avatar

Whitney M.

Yelp
Great food after a decent hike up Camelback. The Jamaica aguas frescas was wonderful! Not too sweet or thick and not too thin. Just right. The salsa verde and red sauce was a good edition to my taco. There's a .55 surcharge for credit and debit cards and all prices are listed clearly. The staff was friendly and bright out the food quickly. There's room a a small grotto of friends to sit and it. A variety of music plays and there's a reprieve from the heat. I think this place is a nice little gem.

brandy z.

Yelp
Come here every time we are in town. Consistent, good flavor. Great friendly service!
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
love the breakfast burritos! If you like spice ask for the extra spicy salsa on the side it's delicious!

Jacob B.

Yelp
Everything was great the service the fast food times under 5 minutes for a delicious burrito and the horchata amazing I am coming her tomorrow for breakfast
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a weekend treat and loved the options available. Friendly, patient staff making some bomb burritos. We tried the shrimp and veggie breakfast burritos. Waited in the restaurant with a strawberry Jarritos. Food is cooked fresh so expect a small wait. Tortillas were fresh and the salsa added the perfect spice and citrus. PHX burrito house is our new fav tradition!
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
What happened?! I used to enjoy the shrimp burritos here, but after today's order I will not be back. Tortilla stiff and hardly warm. MINIMAL shrimp and it felt like I was mainly eating cabbage the whole time. Burrito felt light and was not appetizing. Also ordered a carne asada burrito. Cheese was not melted even after the drive home-not surprised since both burritos were luke warm. Beans and rice were mush and carne asada bland. I really used to enjoy the food here, sad to see quality decline.
