"Pi Pizza, a Heights pizzeria that earned raves from Houston diners before being embroiled in years-long business drama, has officially closed its doors. The restaurant announced its surprise departure in a statement released last Friday afternoon, which noted that its current owners look to focus on their other restaurants, including Tex-Mex spot Candente and barbecue favorite Pit Room. “We loved the pizza from Pi, we just didn’t have the time and bandwidth to give Pi the focus it needed given the demands of our other concepts,” reads the statement issued by Sambrooks Management Company. “We are excited that several Pi employees are moving to our other concepts and we wish the best to those talented folks that are going off to other opportunities.” Prior to Sambrooks’s takeover of the restaurant in August 2018, Pi Pizza was owned by restaurant group Cherry Pie Hospitality, which flamed out spectacularly that year, leaving behind a trail of lawsuits and allegations that its partners “stiffed” investors out of their money. The drama kicked off when Cherry Pie Hospitality sold off four of its restaurants, including Pi Pizza, in what those investors called a “fire sale.” Lawsuits filed by former investors allege that they never saw any of the proceeds from the sale. When it first opened with chef Anthony Calleo at the helm, though, Pi Pizza was a beloved spot with endlessly creative pies and boozy drinks. Back in 2019, Eater reported that Sambrooks had plans to revamp the restaurant into a new spot called DoBros, but those plans never materialized." - Amy McCarthy

"Pi Pizza, located at 181 Heights Boulevard, is undergoing a major revamp under new owner Michael Sambrooks. The restaurant will be renamed DoBro’s Pizza and Sandwich, focusing on 'massive' deep-dish pies, Italian beef sandwiches, and more Chicago-style dishes. The new vibe aims to be hip, modern, and cool, but approachable to everyone." - Amy McCarthy

Tried the Who's the Mac and it was 💣 as well as the fried mac and cheese balls with jalapeno ranch sauce. Drinks were good and strong. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. Will definitely be coming back to try out the rest of the menu.

The menu is awesome as far as the pizza options go - plenty of interesting combinations and some unique ingredients. They do let you split their specialty pizzas so you can do half and half, which is nice. I went with half of the Lee's pizza and half of the American Supreme, and both tasted pretty good. This point is where the review turns negative. While the flavor combos sound great on the specialty pizzas, their execution/value is terrible unless your idea of a pepperoni pizza is one single pepperoni per slice. It was really disappointing for the toppings to be so sparse when a 16" pizza costs around $25. We ordered a queso appetizer and a 16" pizza, no drinks, and the cost was $35. Plan on spending $50+ if you want beer or a cocktail. For a "build your own" pizza, pepperoni is considered a "specialty protein" and costs $6 to add. If you choose to make your own topping combos, plan to spend $30+ just for the pizza (Crazy!). It was worth trying, but the food does not justify the high prices, and I probably won't return.

Place was great. The Pizza Fries for starters were delicious. Next we had the Lee's Pizza very tasty and last "The Grinder" . Italian style thick hardy Sandwich on sour dough bread. The Sandwich was a 10 for sure. From food to staff a great experience.

Have been Pi pizza on 2 occasions and drive 35 min from Katy, tx to come on AYCE tuesdays. For 13.99 you get as much pizza and salad as your stomach can hold. Its a great way to sample a few different pizzas that they offer. Their pizzas are amazing. And they have very unique and tasty combinations. My favorite it the AM/PM pizza. Highly recommend trying their custom cocktails as well.

Pretty small spot. Pizza options are great. A lot of variety of different styles. Price is just right for the size and toppings on the pizza. Worth a second trip

After paying for my bill, there was brief moment where I thought about just staying here forever. Great pizza. If I had to choose between the fried Mac and cheese balls and my only daughter, I’d have to really contemplate my morals.

This was doubtlessly the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant. I came in on a busy night and was directed by a staff member to take a seat anywhere. I was reading for twenty minutes, and no servers brought me a menu or anything. Everyone else in the restaurant was being attended to, it seemed. I finally approached the to-go order area, and a server finally asked how she could help me. I asked for a menu and made my selection and paid. When they brought the pizza to me, they didn't bring a plate or anything else—I had to ask for a napkin. The pizza (supreme) was delicious, but you can get delicious supreme pizzas elsewhere for the same price and be made to feel that they actually want you there. I am kicking myself for that 15% tip. Absolutely horrible service. I would assume they were racists if I weren't as white as most of the staff. I have never been treated that poorly. I am astounded that this place is still open.

Excellent variety of very delicious and unique pizzas and salads. They also let you do half half pizzas to try different styles. Slightly on the higher end in terms of pizza prices.
