The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"In 2015, chef and owner Victor Barry left diners with a sad pit in their stomachs when he shuttered the nearly 30-year-old fine dining establishment Splendido, though he soothed their collective hunger pangs the next year with a new, sophisticated, and family-friendly trattoria. A departure from the gloved service and dainty dishes, Piano Piano kept the soul of Splendido while making Barry’s creations more accessible to the community. At its three locations in the city, the restaurant enchants with staples like bouncy ricotta served with rosemary-studded focaccia and finished with sunflower seeds and chile; paunchy octopus whose downy tentacles have been bathed in fermented garlic honey; and naturally leavened sourdough pizzas, such as the Sweet Hornet, a smoldering whirlwind of fior di latte, spicy soppressata, black olives, and treacly hot honey. Know before you go: If you don’t make it to the original location on Harbord, I highly recommend visiting the 55 Colborne location instead. It’s a trip, especially the basement restaurant/bar, which is decked out like a whimsical carousel." - Tiffany Leigh

Went for the Summerlicious lunch but they have a very similar set all the time (app, main, dessert). The vodka pasta was amazing with the perfect sauce and pizza was great as usual. The tiramisu was a little soft and the lemon cheesecake was a bit too tart for my personal liking. Overall very happy with the meal.

I recently dined at this restaurant, and overall, it was an amazing experience! The food was absolutely fantastic. I ordered pasta, and it was genuinely the best I’ve ever had. The drinks were also incredibly well-made, and the dessert was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The only minor downside was that the place was a bit smaller than I had anticipated. However, the staff more than made up for it with their friendliness and exceptional service. They were all so attentive and really seemed to enjoy their jobs, which made the whole visit even better. I highly recommend this spot!

Piano piano is always an easy and tasty go to dinner. We sat on the covered patio which was very nice. Their hot honey pizza is something I always look forward to. The pasta is fresh and flavourful. The staff is also kind and knowledgeable!

We had an incredible meal at Piano Piano and are already planning our return visit. We started with the burrata appetizer with roasted grapes— the pairing was phenomenal! For our mains we had the egg-yolk ravioli (which was very yummy and fun) and the fungi pizza with hot honey (don’t knock it until you try it!). We finished with the tiramisu which was a great way to end our meal. Highly recommend Piano Piano for a night out. The food was great and service was excellent! We’ll definitely be back!

I had eaten at the restaurant that was previously there a year or so ago and it was overpriced and mediocre- so I had never gone back. When I heard Piano Piano had taken over this location, I was intrigued as I had eaten at their harbord location. Last night we had the most increadible meal. The flavours so unique and so delicious . The salad, the appetizers, the pizza, mains and sides were all incredible. We were so stuffed we were unable to finish our meals and had to take home doggie bags. We were so surprised that it was not more popular and busy for a Thursday night. It truly was an amazing food experience , probably the best Italian in the neighbourhood, so much better than Giulietta. Even the service was exceptional, this quite reserved and attentive waiter and not always in your face or pretentious. Do yourself a favour this summer and go out and dine and Piano Piano and have that great Italian dinner. The price was also affordable. $300 for 4 people including alcohol.

Our Summerlicious dinner at Piano Piano on Bloor Street was truly delightful. The $45 menu offered excellent value with an appetizer, main course, and dessert, though we found some dishes stood out more than others. The chopped salad completely redefined our expectations for what a salad could be - fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. For mains, the mushroom cavatelli impressed with its creamy texture and rich umami flavor, while the bacon Alfredo pizza arrived freshly baked with delicious, high-quality toppings. We did find the desserts (tiramisu and lemon cheesecake) sweeter than our personal preference. For those who enjoy more subtle desserts, you might want to consider ordering from the regular menu instead. The restaurant's atmosphere absolutely charmed us - elegant yet welcoming, with plenty of photogenic corners perfect for capturing special moments. Service was attentive without being intrusive. While we loved most of our meal, the dessert selection makes us consider ordering à la carte next time. That said, Piano Piano remains an excellent Summerlicious choice for food that's as Instagram-worthy as it is delicious.

We came as a party of two with reservations on a Friday night. The restaurant was fairly full. Having been to the Colborne location before, the vibe here was totally different. We felt a bit overdressed, as most people were wearing really casual clothing. The other location definitely had a more upscale ambiance. We ordered two types of ravioli (the egg yolk with truffle was very good in particular), as well as some drinks and the salmon crudo. The salmon was tasty, and we could tell it was really good olive oil used. It lacked texture, so some bread or crostinis would have paired nicely. The ravioli tasted similar to the other location, which is excellent. Can't go wrong with the pasta dishes from this chain! Service was the main issue here. It was incredibly slow and fairly unapologetic. There was "miscommunication" with our order, and we had to watch as tables seated after us got their food first. We were told multiple times that the food would be "just another minute". Spoiler: it was not just another minute. We waited over an hour from when we were seated before getting our entrees, which really soured the experience. No real apologies or discounts or amendments, which I wasn't expecting but it would have been a nice gesture considering the huge wait. Overall the food was good, but due to service issues and ambiance I'd visit other branches rather than this one.

Celebrated my belated birthday here with close friends and had a lovely dining experience. The food was solid, and everything was well-executed. The pizza is a must-order, and the caviar on a donut is an interesting combination. For dessert, I highly recommend the carrot cake—it has a cool presentation and makes for a satisfying finish. You can’t go wrong with Piano Piano!

Yelp
Went here for our anniversary. I've been to 2 other locations but wanted to try this one. The food was good, drinks and service wasn't as good as other locations unfortunately. Our server was very nice but service was slow. Food took a long time to come out and drinks came out way after food. We had to remind our server that we were still waiting for our drinks. We still had a great time because the food was good and our server was nice and did his best. It's also super cute in there, we were sat upstairs right next to the patio but indoors.

Yelp
More like 3.5 Good value for a Summerlicious menu. I have been to their first location at Harbord and loved it. For their licious menu, they offer items from their regular menu. While this location is much bigger and the service was friendly, the food and drinks took forever. The dining experience lasted close to 2 hours long. I think is because they are short staffed and this seems to be a constant issue judging from the past reviews. Go there if u are not in a rush Also, it took so long, it went from a daylight dining to an night atmosphere with candles lol Reservations can be easily made online and there is option to sit on the patio. Make sure to select for the licious menu if booking for licious. It wasn't busy though so could have easily walked in and the restaurant appears to open late. They also offer special prix fixe. Yelp
New location recently opened at around bloor and ossington. Narrow restaurant but two floors of dining space available. Came on a Friday night and was packed so reso is recommended. Service was good and our server remained attentive throughout. Ordered the mushroom cavatelli (dairy free version) and the spritz - both were really good. Portions were a bit small so definitely not meant for sharing.

Yelp
Would have loved to give a higher review. We have heard wonderful things about this place and our friends were interested to hear we were going tonight. The food was good (solid) but not "wow" for the price. The service was a bit slow. We took advantage of the "Dinner for Two" special. We specifically asked if the lobster pasta was included and were assured by our server we could have any pasta. To our surprise, we were upcharged for this choice, something we were not alerted to at the time we ordered (after specifically asking twice). What was especially offputting was that the upcharge was higher than the difference in price between regular pasta and the lobster pasta. All of which left a sour taste in our mouth at the end of our meal, and will make it difficult to recommend to others. Does not live up to the hype, especially when the server misrepresented the price.
