The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada

"Open for: Lunch and dinnerPrice range: $$$In 2015, chef and owner Victor Barry left diners with a sad pit in their stomachs when he shuttered the nearly 30-year-old fine dining establishment Splendido, though he soothed their collective hunger pangs the next year with a new, sophisticated, and family-friendly trattoria. A departure from the gloved service and dainty dishes, Piano Piano kept the soul of Splendido while making Barry’s creations more accessible to the community. At its three locations in the city, the restaurant enchants with staples like bouncy ricotta served with rosemary-studded focaccia and finished with sunflower seeds and chile; paunchy octopus whose downy tentacles have been bathed in fermented garlic honey; and naturally leavened sourdough pizzas, such as the Sweet Hornet, a smoldering whirlwind of fior di latte, spicy soppressata, black olives, and treacly hot honey.Know before you go: If you don’t make it to the original location on Harbord, I highly recommend visiting the 55 Colborne location instead. It’s a trip, especially the basement restaurant/bar, which is decked out like a whimsical carousel." - Tiffany Leigh

Piano Piano definitely impressed us with both its food and atmosphere. We arrived without a reservation and were lucky enough to be seated with the understanding that we’d need to finish before the next reservation slot huge thanks to the gracious hostess for making it work! The space has a stylish yet comfortable feel. We were initially a bit unsure about the dress code, but quickly realized it’s a relaxed and welcoming environment no need to be overly dressed up. Everything we ordered was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavour. The marinated olives were a simple but perfect way to start. The standout for us was the Egg Yolk Ravioli with Truffle rich, decadent, and absolutely worth adding the truffle. The Godmother Pizza, recommended by our server, had a great balance of toppings. We also enjoyed the Caesar Salad, which was fresh and well-seasoned. Overall, this place lives up to its reputation great service, quality ingredients, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend booking ahead and treating yourself to the ravioli!

The space is beautiful, they have different rooms and spaces that can accommodate any occasion. Our group of 8 was seated on the main level towards the back of the restaurant in a cozy and intimate nook. We had a vegetarian family style dinner. Every dish was delicious but the highlights were the appetizer platter with arancini and whipped ricotta toasts, then the mushroom pizza was perfect with a charred and crispy crust. The pomodoro ravioli was tasty and had a nice spice kick to it. For the main course we were served their crispy potato dish which was insanely delicious and addictive, along with brussel sprouts, eggplant parm and cauliflower steaks. It was way too much food but they packed the leftovers for us to take home.

Our group arrived at Piano Piano in two waves—half at 8:30 and the rest by 8:45. Despite being seated, no one approached our table until 9:05, when we had to flag down a server ourselves. We ordered drinks, but only one glass of wine arrived promptly. The rest of the beverages took an additional 15 minutes to appear. Appetizers were also slow to arrive, though their quality was acceptable. We ordered our mains while still eating our starters, yet there was an extended delay once again. After the table was cleared, there was a 30-minute stretch with nothing served and no server interaction. Once we finished our mains, the server briefly returned to ask if we wanted coffee and dropped off dessert menus—but then disappeared for 20 minutes before returning to take dessert orders. The carrot cake, to its credit, was exceptional—possibly one of the best in the city. However, once dessert was finished, we were left waiting over 30 minutes before finally flagging down the server again just to receive the bill. While the restaurant was busy, it wasn’t so overwhelmed that this level of inattentive service could be justified. We later speculated that the automatic 20% gratuity added for our party of six may have contributed to the indifference, as it seemed the server felt no need to provide quality service with the tip already secured. In the end, our group agreed: if we ever crave the carrot cake again, we’ll order it to go—but we won’t return for dinner. Not worth 700$ for 6 people.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Piano Piano last night! The ambiance is absolutely lovely, creating the perfect setting for a great meal. The service was attentive and friendly. I ordered the bone-in veal parm, and it was absolutely delicious. They also offer a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks, which were surprisingly good and refreshing. Overall, everything from the food to the service was excellent. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back!

This is actually a 4.5 rating because hubby got picky but honestly, everything was great. Went here for the first time with my husband and his cousin and happened to luck upon the Happy Hour Menu. Cousin had "the best pizza he ever had" (Margherita) and Whipped Ricotta on Fococcia (pic 1), I had the COOLEST appy (a savoury donut with caviar, pic 2), and hubby had Marinated Olives (pic 3) and the Mushroom Cavatelli which was great. Service was awesome, and because we got there during happy hour, we scored some affordable PBRs. Very cool space, also.

The service is incredible. The server's really willing to help us choose the best options. There is a lunch special $36 per person but we didn't take it. We chose to order a la cart instead and it's perfect! The atmosphere is gorgeous, good for friend, family and date!

Work lunch with colleagues — we all picked the $36 three-course lunch set: ✅ Kale salad: huge portion (photo doesn’t show it), couldn’t finish even two-thirds. ✅ Egg yolk rigatoni: rich and filling, ate half and took the rest home. ✅ Tiramisu: managed to finish most of it — clearly I have a dessert stomach. Place was packed after 12:30, mostly nearby office workers. Flavors were a bit heavy though— a bit salty and sweet for my taste. Vibe is great 😊

Piano piano Colborne- the restaurant has an amazing atmosphere both upstairs and downstairs. My group shared the warm olives, proscuitto croquettes, donut & caviar (appetizers). The eggplant parm, carbonara rigatoni & boneless rib eye (mains), My feedback below: Olives- juicy, awesome marinade Croquettes- a bit salty Donut- UNREAL, the ultimate sweet/ salty treat for anyone who appreciates this type of combination. Eggplant parm- cooked perfectly, right amount of sauce & cheese, great flavour. Carbonara rigatoni- LOVED it! I often find carbonara can sometimes taste a little bitter, this was creamy with the right amount of guiancale that was cooked to the perfect crisp. Pasta was super fresh. Ribeye- cooked right and tasty, but portion was not huge for the price (there was a lot of grizzle on the ends which I’m sure added to the flavour, but took away from the portion size). It came with a side of cacio e Pepe potatoes (I thought they were a bit dry, but I am not generally a potato fan) I also had a dirty vodka martini - it was awful (far too much vermouth) but the staff was happy to replace it. Ultimately it was a great meal and the portion sizes were generous. Would definitely go back and try more items. Still dreaming of that donut!
