"Here at The Infatuation, we put a lot of effort into marrying our passions for both music and food, and we love it when we find examples of other people doing the same. If you have ever been to Pianos to see a band in the back room, you probably didn't expect that it's the kind of place that would turn out some damn good bar food. It's usually crowded as hell with a mix of indie music nerds and girls that just moved to the city who loooove the Lower East Side. Also, it smells like a dirty basement. Regardless, they have a great selection of bar fare that you wouldn't expect to find in a place like this, and it's obvious that they care about quality. The only downside is that tables can be hard to come by if you're there during the Lower East Side high tide of humans and if you sit upstairs, there is a good chance you'll be eating to the special sounds of an amateur musician on a borrowed guitar. Either way, next time you're at Pianos, sit down at a table and grab some chow to soak up the booze. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Food Rundown Grand Pianos Nachos A perfect example of thought and effort going into a bar menu...this is not a pile of Tostitos dumped onto a plate with salsa and cheese. These nachos come with chickpeas and a Mediterranean salsa that make them something completely unique and very good. Fried Calamari Yes, this seems like a bad idea. Any kind of fresh seafood from a place like Pianos seems risky on the surface, but this calamari is slammin'. Simple, but well seasoned and tender. Grand Piano Burger The burgers at Pianos are of the gourmet variety, with twists and turns that make them enjoyable and different. The Grand Piano comes with Emmental cheese (basically a Swiss cheese that melts nicely) and a house tomato sauce. Good stuff. Goat Cheese Burger I am a big goat cheese fan, and this burger hits the spot. Fresh goat cheese and mushrooms, and basil give it a nice light and fresh taste. Seared Tuna Sandwich Again, a rare tuna sandwich is something most would typically avoid at a bar, but this sandwich might be my favorite thing on the menu at Pianos. The tuna is perfectly done, and the sandwich is almost panini style, with avocado and a ginger soy dressing." - Chris Stang

My flight was canceled, and when you’re stuck in the city, what else is there to do but dance? Though we’re a bit older now, we couldn’t help but revisit Pianos—a staple of our millennial hipster days. Whether it was nostalgia or the $5 beers, we found ourselves upstairs, dancing until 2 AM. The DJ moved seamlessly from Afrobeats to hip-hop, mixing in crowd favorites like Bad Bunny. We never sat down once. At one point, we laughed, remembering how we used to quote Childish Gambino—But, I guess meet me at Pianos / They cross-fadin' off of Nanos. And for one night, we lived it all over again. Pianos isn’t the trendiest spot anymore, and yes, it’s a little grimy, but if you’re passing by and just want to dance with your friends, head upstairs. It’s got a dive bar energy, rough around the edges but exactly the kind of place where you can lose yourself in the music.

Had an amazing time at Piano’s! The vibes were perfect for happy hour—lively, fun, and the drinks were reasonably priced, which was a huge plus. The DJ kept the energy up with an awesome playlist that had everyone feeling good. That said, the music was so loud it was a bit tough to hear my friends, which made conversation challenging. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re looking for a fun atmosphere and good music. Maybe not the best place for deep conversations, but definitely perfect for dancing, drinks, and letting loose. I’ll definitely be back for another round of happy hour!

Google
Classic Lower East Side NYC bar. So many other places didn't survive the pandemic but I glad this place did. Great venue to watch shows and dance upstairs. Their happy hour burger on an English muffin is my favorite.

Google
Greatttttttt party spot with 3 dj sections, chill and mixed crowd, I’m DEFINITELY going back to party and try the food if I’m there early enough

K R

Google
While I did not try the food here, the frozen margaritas are pretty good ! I used a drink ticket for the open mic event that I was attending, but they also had a happy hour before 8 pm. I liked that they have music in both the front and back areas of the space. I would highly recommend this spot for someone looking to have a conversation amongst friends w/ music in the background. There's also some events held in the back for open mics if you're interested in performing !

Google
4s all across the board. Pianos is special because when I turned 21, I started showing up here and back then it was always a good time, as I’m sure is the case for a lot of people. Your intro the nightlife scene if you will. Lately the music has changed a bit and I think they’re heading into a new direction, I might be wrong but it’s interesting and I’ve enjoyed checking it out lately.

Google
Fire 🔥! The brunch food list is excellent, the prices are very reasonable, and the crowd is electric fun. Please, do yourself a favor and go. I'm definitely going back for more🥳 come and join me.

I went on a Friday evening, got there around 7:30 in time to get some drinks before happy hour was over at 8, along with some tasty fries and a order of fully loaded nachos. It started to get crowded around 10pm when the upstairs opens up. I must say I loved the fact that the music along with people were diverse. A true NY Gem!

Yelp
Dance floors and I go together REAL BAD. I don't care if my joints crack, I can busssss downnnn. My dancing partner in crime and I went to Pianos on a Saturday night. We arrived early at 10pm before any of the madness ensued. The bouncers were friendly, checked our IDs, and let us in. As far as I know, there isn't a specific dress code. They also have a coat check available. It's a casual bar/lounge atmosphere. The "main" area has booth seating and a bar. There's an area all the way in the back with an open dance floor, bar, stage, and some seating. I have to warn everyone... there's really not much space. The place is small, and after 11pm you are going to get PACKED like sardines. We knew what we were getting into... we knew what we signed up for ;) Since we got there before the dance floor was packed, we were able to make our way to the front of the stage so we had wayyyyyy more room than other people. Long story short, the DJ was KILLING IT with the tunes. He played everything from reggaeton, dembow, dancehall, afrobeats, hiphop, 2000s hits, etc. And we danced our hearts out for hours and hours!!! I didn't order any food but they have very affordable Happy Hour specials! And if you didn't get the gist... yes, this is a spot that attracts college students or people in their 20's lol. But you know what, sometimes I just need a fun night out until my social battery tells me to crawl back in my introverted cave. P.S. They host private events and shows with live music!

Ashley W.

Yelp
This place feels so nostalgic. It doesn't change, same great quality bands and artists. The best HH and delicious burger served on English muffin!

Whitney D.

Yelp
Last night was my first time here. I met up with friends who I have not seen in 5+ years. The atmosphere is dimly lit lights with a dj. When we were there. there were only like 4-5 people there and music was very loud. I did not have anything to drink but tried a carrot as my friend ordered the hummus plate and a pizza. She said it was spicy. My friend really enjoyed the hummus plate though. In the back they had another room where there is a stage set up so they do have live music here.

Louise D.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place and forgot about it. I was here in 2004 to 2006. Then stumbled upon this place the day of pride. I completely forgot about their drink specials. Their drinks are super strong and I wasn't expecting to get drunk. Granted, I've completely halted my drinking habits because I am living a healthy lifestyle this place had me hammered. Our bartender was really chill as well. I loved that the place was empty on a Sunday afternoon. It's a cool place for groups when it's not crowded. ::bathroom alert:: I don't like that the bathroom was downstairs. It's never a cute looking being drunk and walking to the bathroom. But it was super clean and I was excited about that much. Would I come back here? Yes. I probably wouldn't make this a night location if I'm drinking the area is super crowded at night time.

Mitchell M.

Yelp
Terrible service, overpriced, and the vibe was meh. I need 85 characters to post so here extra blahhhhh.

Ebony L.

Yelp
Speaking more from the bar scene: a really cozy, modern venue on the front end with a larger bar in the back (I did not go back). No cover. There's was a random playlist playing with a variety 2010s to 2020s hip hop. We got there early and was able to secure some tables and chairs. The dj came later and transitioned more into house and dance. The drinks are strong; maybe too strong. The G&T was almost unable to be consumed.

Shmike Z.

Yelp
Good vibes, good area. If your in lower east check them Out when your bar hopping. Only thing is if you're a group of all Dudes it may be harder to gain access. They prefer equals rations so make sure you bring your ladie Frieds out when pull up !

Brenda L.

Yelp
LESS STAPLE , best music . Inclusive environment have never felt so comfortable to dance my tushy off in a nightclub and short line !!!!!

Sarah P.

Yelp
I can't speak to the food, but the music and overall atmosphere is very enjoyable. Most of the time when I come here I stick to the frozen drink they offer, especially during their HH special. Definitely recommend coming to catch a live performance or to hang with friends. I know on the weekend it can get pretty crowded and definitely turns into more of a dance and club scene at night. Overall, a nice spot to come and enjoy a fun evening. 4/5

Mrken H.

Yelp
Dope bar I'm not sure about food but the drinks on a Saturday at around 6:00pm is dull and not made well.

Kevin S.

Yelp
I went here for a cool party and found out the manager of this spot is extremely rude and obnoxious.. How can people keep coming back here if they treat people with such disrespect. Security was good no qualms there. The hip bartender was totally rude and ignoring the crowd that wanted to get drinks. He must be related to the owner.. How this place stayed open for so long puts me in disbelief

Aly D.

Yelp
Pianos is a very cute and small time bar with a lively reputation. I rate it 3 stars since it is a small labor of love with a dance floor/club section. The washrooms are TRASH and STINK, and isn't a pleasant experience when in Pianos. You always have to wait in line since there are only 3 stalls, the flushes never work, and the fact that you have to share the bathrooms with other genders make the bathrooms really extremely messy. The bartenders were ok, they weren't the friendliest. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here

Shania H.

Yelp
Bartenders are sensitives and cry babies. They made fun of my friend who was buying shots for full grown men. The moment I gave them a thumbs downs they felt hurt and got security. They don't know what hospitality is. Hospitality is letting people from different cultures feel welcome. The bartenders here will take your money and laugh at you. Beware.

Adam C.

Yelp
Horrible place that needs to be shut down. Bouncers were verbally abusive to me and my friends while waiting for our first drink in line at the bar and it was our first stop of the night. Literally screaming at the top of their lungs at us in the middle of a crowded room for quite literally... standing in place and minding our own business (completely sober). We told them to piss off and left. You could not pay me to come back here.

Sasha P.

Yelp
We we're having a great night then pianos ruined the night. A friend and I went there and stayed no longer than 5 minutes. It was packed, shoulder to and the men in the club groped a friend and as we tried to move around the crowd. It was shitty as hell.

Jess B.

Yelp
Rlly dead when we went. Other than that nothing explicitly wrong with it but we were there like 8 minutes and then left

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Idk what it is and idk why went out on a Wednesday night but it feels like someone took a sledgehammer to my thighs. They are so sore from jumping around dancing at Pianos. It's been almost a week and they are still. so. sore. We got in at 9:30pm and did not leave til 2:30am. The music was perfect. The drinks were flowing.. the crowd and the staff were so so so fun..... Honestly that's all you need for a fun night... great friends, music from the 2000s + other ratchet music, and a fun crowd............... I got 30 minutes of sleep that night before I hopped on my flight out of JFK. What a freakin riot.. thanks so much Pianos....

Yelp
Pros: 1. MUSIC IS ALWAYS BUSSIN (hip hop, rap, Afro beats) 2. LOTS OF DANCING 3. Three spaces to hangout. First floor has a bar when you walk in and a decent sized room in the back that has its own dj, second floor has another decent sized space with another dj 4. Bartenders are nice 5. Coat check outside 6. Women are usually free (men have entrance fee) 7. Usually very crowded (can be positive or negative depending on you) Cons: 1. There's usually a line especially during the summer it's very long 2. The second floor is always super hot 3. Bouncers can be rude but they're just doing their jobs 4. Occasionally men aren't allowed in without women with them

Joannie B.

Yelp
Good for dancing and drinks. I loved this place back in the days. The music was always good upstairs. Now I see they have several rooms and a stage, big plus. Very crowded and hot on a Friday.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Seriously some of the worst service I've ever had. The bartenders will roll their eyes at you if you ask for something and just stare at you when you ask for a drink. It's just a really trashy place. I've been here twice and I'll never come back after how rude the staff was and how creepy the guys were to me and my friends. There are definitely better bars in the neighborhood. I've heard they won't let some guys in if they don't have girls with them which is so gross. It might just be the worst place I've been to in nyc.

Bijal R.

Yelp
Worth all the hype!! Affordable drinks for NYC. Amazing music. The upstairs floor POPS OFF.

John K.

Yelp
My friend was grabbed by a girl and she was trying to get him in. The bouncer said no. So my sober self grabbed my friend to leave and the doorman started taking pictures of me without my permission saying I was banned forever. I don't even live in New York. I understand the doorman job is difficult but to take photos of me and making threats is outrageous. I wouldn't come here even if they paid me.

Adeola C.

Yelp
Went here for the St Patrick's day and the taco is so good beside the bar is a club with good music and dance floor. PS the bar is pay as you order no open tan or anything.

Mikey S.

Yelp
I showed up tonight, completely sober and spoke to no one while on line. Bouncer asks what girls I came with like this is a frat party. I explain I am meeting a group of girls inside, he says to call them. While I'm on the phone he interrupts the call and aggressive and told me to never come back. I don't know if he thought he heard something but I'm baffled and confused. He got in my face and I couldn't even guess what set him off. Bizarre but there's thousands of bars to go to, don't bother here.

Cam Z.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE. Me and my Asian American friends came here to celebrate me and my other friends birthday and I WAS CHOKED BY THE BOUNCER while I was minding my own business. The other bouncer DAMAGED MY FRIENDS PHONE for trying to record (it was also her birthday too). As I was leaving Pianos on Friday night to celebrate me and my friend's bday, I went back to the area to check if the bottle of alcohol we left was still there. While I was looking, I was suddenly grabbed by the ankle and dragged away by a tall black female bouncer. I then went back to my friends, who asked if I was okay. I made one more attempt to go back and check if the bottle was still there because I almost had it before I was dragged at the ankle. This time, a different bouncer - black, male, and twice my size - PLACED HIS HANDS TIGHT AROUND MY THROAT AND TRIED TO PUSH ME DOWN. He then repeatedly told me I was embarrassing myself on my birthday. Please keep in mind that during this entire time I never made any physical retaliations, and as I was trying to retrieve the item I was not interacting with anyone in the line or with the bouncers at all. During this time, the bouncers were also asking another Asian girl who was not with me at all if they were with me...makes me think this incident was racially targeted (and on AAPI month) While my other friend was recording the bouncer's 2nd attempt to harass me, a female bouncer snatched my friends phone away to prevent her from recording it. When it dropped on the floor, the bouncer tried to step on the phone, picked it up and took it. They then refused to give the phone back until a third bouncer came intervened and allowed gave it back to us. While we finally managed to get it back, we noticed that the bouncer caused damage to her phone so much so that the bottom-left corner of her screen was cracked.

Keith B.

Yelp
Bouncers hit us with the tourist/eggplant tax. I've lived here for 10 years now. Line moved fast and the Dj was deep in his Jansport.

Tiago C.

Yelp
Humiliation. My entry was refused because I was visiting this place alone (without a girl). Even after I joined a group, the security threatened to get all the other people out of the line if they tried to get me in with them. Why would that be? I was at nyc for a business trip and just wanted to listen to some music. I have been to venues all around the globe and was never treated like this, being discriminated, pushed and yelled at for simply trying to get into a bar. Never would recomend this to anyone. This kind of place where people are treated like that do not deserve your presence.

Benjamin F.

Yelp
The bouncers on duty this past Wednesday night February 21 refused my best friend entry because albeit she is 25 years old and a very close friend of hers was performing in the venue, all she had was her ID on her phone. She started weeping profusely, and they became hostile and violent with her. So she fell back. A little later after she decided just to wait on the street, she asked them if she could simply get some napkins from the bar to wipe her tears. They started screaming at her. I was with her and witnessed these two men snorting coke as well as other patrons doing the same, waiting to get inside. This will all be reported to the NYC Department of Buildings. I am an attorney licensed to practice in NYS and will get this club padlocked asap

Bruce S.

Yelp
Bouncers are rude! Service is slow! Watered down drinks! Will never go back! Dirty stank bathrooms! I couldn't believe I waited in line for this garbage bar smh

Majer M.

Yelp
Got attracted by their happy hour $5 frozen margaritas sign outside and decided to give it a try on a hot sunny day. It's kind of funny seeing how 90% of the people there were drinking the frozen margaritas and I was thinking it must've been good. Indeed, it's a decent drink with a good amount of alcohol. The ice was also blended well so it's the best choice on a warm day! The atmosphere is kind of dim and dark and I think I might have too much fun and left my sunglasses there and they were nowhere to be found after. Sad.

Kenya F.

Yelp
Came for happy hour on a Saturday which was good lasted until 8pm! Affordable drinks, loud music, it gets crowded. I had the fried fish sandwich which was amazing and the serving size for the food is great!! During happy hour there was no waiter so everything had to be ordered at the bar, but the food was brought out in great timing. I would go again if I want to stop for cheap drinks.

Tessie V.

Yelp
Pianos, the mecca of pre-teens with fakes, transplants, and hipsters that don't realize it's 2018. I don't know if I missed they hayday of Pianos, or what. I've been here a bunch of times between 21-25. The first time was great, a random Saturday after work around 3pm. We got burgers, and frozen margs that were strong as hell. The bartender was sweet and I went home feeling great about the world. Any time after that was awful. The burgers will always have a soft spot in my heart, but anytime I've had one after it's been under cooked! There's always a line wrapped around the block unless you grandfather yourself in. If you're hot and lucky, you will be plucked out of the line and ushered to the front. (Also if you're not the generic LI bro this can happen.) The crowd is insufferable, because they're all young yuppies that have heard Pianos is "hip" They're rude, selfish, and obnoxious. Well drinks are overpriced and half ice, the frozen margs are kind of overplayed after your first 2 times there or if you actually drink substantial amounts of alcohol. Bartenders are okay. I can understand why they're so whatever, they've been dealing with wankers all night. They're two floors, the upper floor has a DJ. DJ is kind of meh. There is also a bathroom up there so heads up. The bathrooms are disgusting so be aware. I wouldn't come here unless a band I like was coming. But also-- I keep finding myself here so ???? Pianos is almost like a rite of passage. You have to go there to see how good you have it at other bars.

Efe K.

Yelp
Good music (afrobeats, hip-hop, reggaeton) made for really good vibes. Come early (I.e earlier than 10pm) if you want to avoid a cover.

Matty F.

Yelp
Used to be fun years ago. Now it's disgusting. Friends got robbed here in the bathroom. Dirty wet floors and the no room. Save the time on that line and don't even try to

Sasha S.

Yelp
we had a really fun night here; it's a very lowkey atmosphere (we were there for a little concert in the back). I ordered a pizza and did not love the taste (the crust was too sweet and flaky and not savory enough) but the drinks were EXTREMELY affordable!!!

Maya V.

Yelp
they drug drinks in the upstairs bar. several of my friends have experienced this. they SHOULD be shut down. IF YOU'RE A WOMAN DO NOT GO HERE. No reason that a patron should go in, have two drinks an hour apart, and be sick to their stomach, vomiting, and not remember anything the day after, when they've drank those same exact drinks before elsewhere and been fine.

Clay A.

Yelp
Don't go here. I'm going on a plane tomorrow and they literally confiscated my ID. I don't know how I'm going to get home tomorrow. I can't believe this is real.

Gloria L.

Yelp
I had my phone stolen from my purse from this establishment. I noticed that my phone was gone when I was on the top floor. I decided to go downstairs with my friend to see what to do. The security guard started yelling at us and told us to come down the stairs immediately. I tried to explain the situation to him, but he wouldn't listen and told me to get out. I was pretty upset at this point, so I grabbed my coat from the coat check and tried to speak with the bouncer outside. He wouldn't even look me in the eye and told me I was too drunk and only spoke to my friend and said he couldn't converse with me because I was unreasonable and too drunk. I looked him dead in the eye, and I said I am not drunk, but my phone was stolen, so I would appreciate if you would address me directly. He said no, you blocked our servers on the stairs, who had a whole tray full of drinks, and I let him know that situation never happened, which my friend corroborated. He obviously realized that I was not drunk and that he had mistaken me for someone else, so he went to get his manager to smooth things over when he realized I was a different person separate from the situation he was referring to. They then went in to check to see if any phone had been turned in, and I let them know when they repeatedly asked if it was a green phone that it did not match the description of the phone. I have no hope that my phone will be found after I wasted my time trying to get management at the establishment to help me with a crime that was committed on their premises. Don't even bother trying to get help from their managers because you will just be accused of things that are clearly not related to you while the true culprit runs free.

Arielle D.

Yelp
The music here is great but the drinks are overpriced and the crowd is a bit young. If you're looking to dance the night away with college freshman this is the place to be on a Friday night! If you prefer a more mature crowd and quality cocktails look elsewhere. I ordered an old fashioned and it was served in a plastic cup and they used cheap bourbon.

Richard D.

Yelp
Convenient location to go bar hopping. This place is overcrowded. The line to get in is fast but once you get in, you can barely move. Most places in NYC tend to be packed but I have never seen anything like this place. It is simply not enjoyable. The management must put a cap on the amount of people they can allow in and respect the capacity of the room. Also, you have to pay $20 cover fee to not be able to do anything. It feels like sardines in a can.

Lotanna E.

Yelp
Last night, our majority Black friends were refused entry into the club by a white female employee. When we asked why it was that we were not allowed in they cycled through a bunch of excuses -- we were too inebriated, although none of us were stumbling, nor had we argued with or bothered anyone else in the line. We were also able to have full coherent conversations with them. Once we pointed out the fault with that, we were told that our ratio was somehow off even though we had 8+ girls and only 2 guys with us. When we asked them what ratio they would have preferred they told us, "they cannot answer that question". When we then asked if we brought more men and got back in line would we be allowed in, the bouncer became very combative and aggressive with me, told me "no, you are not getting in" and then told us to get off the sidewalk. At no point did we receive an actual reason why a group of Black people were not allowed into the event. Interestingly, when our non-Black friends came up after us in the line they were happily going to be let in until they said that they were with us, at which point they were told they could either get out of line with us or go in by themselves and leave us. It's honestly so gross and disappointing that this club plays Black music made by Black artists all night long and makes money off of it but refuses to let Black people partake. It was even more disappointing to watch Black bouncers protect the white woman who didn't let us in, going so far as to have her placed inside when we started asking tough questions. It's 2021, this is unacceptable.

Nicholas K.

Yelp
One of the worst bars I've ever been to. Owner and bouncers were unprofessional. My friend was standing in front of the club texting a friend. They asked him to love out of the way? He just stood there which was legal by the way, one of the bouncers actually spat at him and said "I told you to move kid" Went to a bar down the road which was good, as we pass back by the club to pick up our car, I saw two bouncers screaming at a few guys and girls on the corner and cops had to come and tell the bouncers to calm down. AVOID unless you want chaos and to be potentially spat at

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Dope vibes, chill Djs Good drinks, clean bathrooms which is a lot to ask for. All around good spot, minus 1 star for the excessive lines out front. It will be empty inside and a line around the corner, not sure of the strategy here lol

Bella R.

Yelp
DO NOT COME HERE. I was trying to meet my friends who are on line already (mind you I'm a 5'1 tiny girl alone) and got told I'm being " too New York" and that they're " trying to set the vibe inside"???? After trying to explain I'm alone and they just let in 6 of my friends they told me I " don't know how to act". My friends who got in said it was empty anyways. Funniest thing I've ever been told it's hilarious how pretentious old men who try to act 20 are. Setting a " vibe" by being what? Rude

Kelli F.

Yelp
I love this bar! The dancing is exceptional, especially upstairs. I've been know to throw back a few Vodka sodas here and really get on the dance floor. As far as the LES goes, this is one hot spot, and don't even get me started on the Speakeasy situation, which is a few pay phone telephones away. I guess you had to know the secret number.

Jack M.

Yelp
Awful venue for performers. Soundcheck person arrived one and a half hours later than when scheduled, security guard was insufferable, and the mixing was terrible. Worst of all, we were promised 2x Fender Deluxe Amps per the contract but 30 minutes before the start of the show we were told that one of them was broken and were offered a ridiculously tiny 20watt amp instead. Totally unprofessional, poorly organized, and put together a miserable experience for the musical acts. Great lighting though.

Claire W.

Yelp
Overpriced. $30 for one drink - don't waste your time. A young vibe and unwelcome touch.

Vinay S.

Yelp
Bustling cocktail, live music, and DJ R&B bar with an awesome collection of people that come together for a rowdy night. Key is to go early around 9 when the upstairs first opens so you don't have to wait on nearly an hour/two long line. $15 a cocktail. 5/5 stars as a night spot.

Kerr H.

Yelp
Really nice spot specially if you're younger crowd. Happy hour is very affordable and the food at those prices you can't beat. Very good crowds.
