Piatto Pronto

I had a craving for an Italian sandwich, and I immediately thought of Piatto Pronto. The owner took my order and is amazing. I’ve been coming to Piatto Pronto for a very long time. He’s appreciation for his customers sincerely, genuine. He’s very grateful and thankful for all of his customers. I ordered the usual the Il Milano and my wife ordered the Garden Di Tuscany. Both were delicious. I’ve never had another sandwich from here because the Il Milano is the perfect Italian cold cut sandwich. Support local!

The place is awesome. The sandwiches are great and the staff is really nice. There's also always some really tasty treats that seem really authentic.

Delicious deli delights - if you’re not convinced by the smell when you first walk in, you’ll be convinced when eat your first bite. This petite Italian shop features a deli (meats, cheeses and pastas, paninis), some prepared food (soups), drinks and dry goods. I usually do an in-store order here.

Authentic Italian spot ! My The Southwest Panini was huge a very much so tasty! First time here an I shall be back !

This establishment advertises that they close at 6pm I tried calling at 5pm and could not order. Drove to the store at 530pm and the gentlemen would not allow me to enter to place an order. Terrible treatment. If I could give a negative star rating I would.

Bread is gross and the meats are inedible. This place is truly terrible.

I love this place! On top of outstanding subs that are a mean in themselves, they have a great selection of Italian groceries - pasta, antipasto, salads, etc. My wife and I enjoy their freezer section for prepped lasagna and gnocchi when we want a quick dinner. I've always found the staff incredibly friendly. It's a little dangerous that we live essentially across the street 😯.

The bald guy is extremely racist, rude and aggressive. I saw how he treated a customer badly, in addition, he threatened him with a knife and chased him outside. He made racist comments and shouted insults like crazy. This guy was out of control, someone has to stop him, he acts as he’s untouchable. I felt powerless to see how he treated that person

Great sandwiches. Love it. I come almost weekly. I usually get the Milano or the hot turkey one!

Very affordable prices, but the quality did not meet my expectations. I was craving a chicken Parmesan sandwich and ordered from here. I was expecting a fried cutlet chicken patty, but got sliced grilled chicken (even the menu on the website says it will be lightly breaded chicken breast). I also ordered a cannoli and it was unusual- not sweet. Overall, my colleagues have suggested that I try a cold sandwich from here instead.

Yummy Chicago sandwiches! My parents are staying nearby and we decided to swing by and try the fresh made sandwiches. My dad and husband went in to order and said the staff working was friendly. I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich and I wish I went with something else. The bread was amazing, but the the chicken was just regular sliced chicken breast with marinara sauce and sliced cheese on top. I was expecting more of the traditional breaded, thin chicken (like what you think of when you think of chicken parm) so I was a little disappointed. If it was just based on my sandwich, I would give this a three star experience, but luckily I got to try many others, and they were five stars!! Next time, I think I'd go with the Cielo Panini. It's genoa salami, Italian copa, grilled zucchini, roasted red peppers with Jarlsberg cheese spread of tapenade and drizzle of balsamic vinegar. This shop is also a market and has premade soups, a deli, and some Italian groceries.

Excellent salad. I tried a salad that was composed of beets, chick peas, arugula, feta cheese and a superb dressing. It was perfectly flavored with very fresh ingredients. Had a can of their mocha iced coffee, can't remember the brand, but everything was very good and tasty. My new go to place!

The Italian Sandwich is to die for here! We've ordered from here several times throughout the years and PP never disappoints! My favorite move is to order a few sandwiches from here and bring them to tailgates. I've done this several times especially for Sox games and it's always a hit. I love the reaction from people when I get asked "Where is this from"? Their prices is reasonable and also don't sleep on their Chicken Parm or Eggplant Parm sandwiches! Plenty of parking is available along Clark street.

The sandwiches are fantastic and the service is relatively quick and it's laid out like a traditional bodega. Where this place earns its five stars is the owner: he's an absolute riot. Says what he feels and doesn't mince his words. The sensitive need not enter-- definitely love this spot though. New go-to for turkey sandwiches.

First time In Chicago and first timer here. I ordered a chicken parm on a roll. To be honest had to the worst chicken parm or even sandwich in general. Premade sauce. Microwaved chicken. And the sandwich was probably microwaved aswell I could tel by how hot the bread was. I also tried the broccoli cheddar soup and the chicken noodle. Both were dog shit. Worst soup I have ever had. My party ordered a chicken pesto and the sandwich was a simple one and that was hardly mid. Staff wasn't too friendly not talkative. The deli window has a water leak from the condensation and the water was dripping in a cup splashing on the cured meats. If I ever go back to Chicago I will not be stopping here. Food sucks and it was quite expensive.and if you are wanting to sit down and enjoy your lunch or whatever it may be. That will not be happening it's grab and go. Waste of money and time I waited about 20 minutes for my meal. Well I think I've said enough.

One of my favorite sandwiches in all of Chicago. I have worked as valet in front of many damn popular restaurants, and this is one of my go to Chicago spots... I think the owner or manger at the time I lived in the neighborhood was named Michael maybe? I still remember the first convo tho cos he asked me what I wanted and I said it was my first time... he asked where I normally went and when I told him Bari, he was like, "Fuck Bari and their cracker stale day old bread...we will make you a real sandwich on fresh bread." Used to pop in here once a month at least and now it's still my spot when I head back to Chicago.

Rude and Racist owner (bald guy) Initially loved going here as they had some excellent sandwiches and straight up service nothing crazy. But as mentioned in other reviews, we have a problem with one of the owners. In a previous visit, my Spanish speaking relative and her sister was insulted by the owner being called the B word in Spanish and another customer was taken ahead of them.

Not the best sandwich I've ever had, but very solid, a good size, a great price, and super consistent. I go frequently and am always very pleased. Lots of options for vegetarians as well.

Their sandwiches are fantastic. I alternate between the Amy's Favorite and the Southwest panino. The grainder isn't on their site menu. See what it looks like in person instead of relying on my photo. Don't forget to look at their precooked foods in the cooler and grocery items. It's a close spot for 00 flour if you make your own pasta.

Awesome Italian deli with some serious sandwiches. Any of their cold subs are just fantastic. The meatball is one of the better ones in the city.

Piatto Pronto is my go-to for an excellent sandwich. They have large selection of unique items that chain grocery stores do not carry. The owner always makes my sandwich just the way I like and even will make things not on the menu.

Limited selections and overpriced salamis. Genoa are not authentic Italian I was surprised when I bought it I found out it was Factory, Eckrich, which you can get in any store in Chicago ! Nasty & I had to bring it back to a curt and somber clerk who rarely said a word and never apologized ! The small soups are delicious flavors in the fridge, but are very expensive ! Overall I would never recommend this mediocre Italian joint when I want authentic Italian. For authentic Italian deli and goods I go to Bari on Grand Avenue, or the Sicilian neighborhood on Harlem if I have the time to drive there. Does anyone here know that the Sicilians make the best pastry on the planet even many better than French pastry !!

My first time here. A cold sandwich on a cold day. Italian boy staple: I had the 12 inch Napolitano Sandwich - Soppressa ta, calaprese salami and prosciutto cotto with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar. Hit the spot. I also had the Mini Black & White Cookies from New York. Where else? OG - Highly Recommended. The key to eating a black and white cookie is that you wanna get some black and some white in each bite. Nothing mixes better than vanilla and chocolate. And yet still somehow racial harmony eludes us. If people would only look to the cookie, all our problems would be solved. I will be back my friends.

My father-in-law, Daddy-O, passed away on Xmas Day. After his burial, I wanted to have people over for a light lunch. Daddy-O loved this place and it seemed a fitting thing to order the sandwiches he loved. We had scheduled a military burial for Daddy-O at 11:15 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, so I needed the sandwiches before we head out to the cemetery. I had called about four days in advance to see if they could make the order for me for a pick up at 9:30 a.m. that day as I needed to set up a lunch for a repass. The guy that answered the phone wasn't sure that the order could be made due to the time request, but would get back to me. About 15 mins later, the owner Mike calls me back. He first expressed his condolences on my loss and then proceeded to tell me that he would come in early to do the sandwiches for the 9:30 a.m. pick-up. When I got there, everything was ready and Mike helped me out to the car and again expressed his condolences. The sandwiches were great and everyone loved them. The sandwiches are about 12 inches in size, so for creating party trays, you can ask for them to be cut into fours. I particularly like The New Yorker with peppered pastrami. Their Dolce di Parma is also a solid choice (prosciutto, pesto, sundried tomato and basil) as well as the Napolitano (soppressata, calaprese salami and prosciutto cotto with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar or tapenade). And I got about four other types for variety, all equally good. There wasn't much left. The store itself is small, but packed with a lot of speciality items like jams, nuts, cookies, meats, sodas, etc., imported items that you are not likely to find in a Jewel or Mariano's. They also have homemade soups, sauces and pastas that are really good. Prices are not bad...the most expensive sandwich is The Big Easy (turkey, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, artichokes and pesto). This was one of the sandwiches I ordered and it was very good. But I am bias as it had lots of things I love all in one place. They also have wraps that are pretty tasty. I especially love South of the Border (oven roasted turkey, bacon, avocado, spicy Chihuahua cheese, red onion, homemade salsa, lettuce and tomato) and the Maui Wowi (spicy shrimp, crumbled goat cheese, green olives, wasabi dressing and lettuce and tomato). If you are a lover of subs and all things Italian, this is your place. FYI, there is 15 min parking on Olive Street so you can run in and out. Remember to put your flashers on.

Great Italian deli. The veggie sandwich on a baguette is so delicious. Highly recommended for takeout, light groceries, or delivery.

Great Italian grocer & sandwich shop. They may not look like much, but their sandwiches are affordable, tasty, and served fast. Terrific place; my fave is the Tuna. Call first because they open & close different days depending on the season.

A GEM! Why haven't I visited until now? That will change. The BF and I wanted some sandwiches. Enter this fantastic deli in the neighborhood. Great prices, quick service and the sandwiches were really great. And the rest of the store! Many interesting products, some fancy tonic water that was $3.99 for four, vs. $7.99 for four as I've seen it before. All sorts of Italian delicacies - cheese, meats, pasta and sauces. I WILL BE BACK!!!

I'm satisfied with this sandwich shop in Chicago's Edgewater area that I ordered Italian Beef sandwich with cheese and hot peppers. You will know that I'm a great Italian Beef fan.

Such a great place. In a city that had so many Italian delis and restaurants, it is sad to see they have become increasingly rare. Fortunately, we have one in the neighborhood that is every bit as good and authentic as any of those ever were. Will order here every time I can.

Wanted to pick up some sandwiches and big fan of Italian meats Was very excited to try seeing reviews went in knowing owner is a little grouchy from reviews and yes that is correct he does have an attitude but if the food is really good feel like I can ignore the attitude for a good product but think to my self you should be grateful you have a business people want to come to and customer service can make or break you and some people will not return due to that. Ordered 4 sandwiches the Napoletano, 2 Dolce do Parma, vegetable one forgot the name The prosciutto was cut way too thick and overwhelming if you are serving italian meats especially prosciutto you should know how to cut it, my vegetable sandwich I asked no onions and they put them anyway listen to your customers and had 2 artichokes on a 6 inch sub and very little mozzarella and very pale tomatoes ( very sad sandwich The bread was not the freshest or best to warrant s good sandwich hoped for better Well will not return there has to be better out there

Excellent sub sandwiches with many veggies to add on. The meats are very fresh and the workers are very competent. The Italian shoppe has many imported products. Get your subs here.

A quaint little shop with a deli and groceries serving interests in Italian goods & subs. They sell pastas, sauces, oils, vinegars, refrigerated or dry goods, meats, cheeses, homemade giardiniera, snacks and have a full service deli counter which makes sandwiches. A few notable features; is that they offer (some) goods that are locally made and have quite a selection of non-gmo groceries. Which is not often a highlight offered by smaller grocer shops or convenience stores. So far my visits have been mainly for subs, hot sandwiches and wraps. I'm a big fan of submarine sandwiches and paninis in general. At PP's deli counter your money goes a far distance. Most sandwiches are priced at around $7 dollars. You can get wraps as big as a large burrito, they are freakin' enormous. A 6" or footlong sub sandwich or a hot panini. Sandwiches are made to order, depending on the ask. In the realm of an affordable lunch, this is a great buy. However, I wouldn't plug them in the category of craft or premium. It's a plain, suitable, affordable meal. I've mentioned already how big the wraps can be, which are made with a grilled tortilla. However, they fill it up with so much sauce or mayo that it bleeds through the wrap causing everything to become soggy. I've made the mistake of ordering wraps a couple times and am left to wonder, what's the point of grilling the wrap if it ends up soggy? I have to remember to stop ordering them. I end up eating half and giving or throwing away the other portion. Soggy wraps are "non buono." Had I written this review years ago, I may have rated them five stars and never looked back. Today, is a different day. It's good, convenient and affordable eats. However, I don't feel like as though they're churning out the best sandwiches they can create. They're just, sandwiches. Another thing, I was saddened to learn that their giardiniera is produced with soybean oil instead of olive oil. Being that they sell non-gmo goods, I hoped they would follow suit and use non-gmo olive oil or alternative for their giar.. (Much of the soybean oil used in production/cooking is usually GMO and not a heart healthy alternative.) Oh well. It's a condiment I enjoyed but don't need to have there. Since this is both a grocer and deli shop it makes rating difficult. I would've left four stars after rounding out but as I'm reading other reviews, I'm seeing one that mentions the owner wearing a regrettably racist t-shirt which was worn after the Eric Garner death. I'm a proponent of FOS, but wearing such a t-shirt to your place of business says much about you and what you're representing to the public. It's regrettable if the wearer has regret, which I don't think the owner has. He claims not to know the meaning of the t-shirt he wore. Hmm. Then why wear it? Kudos for the offering of Non-gmo goods & offering locally produced products. You've got a nice looking store. However, I know what that t-shirt represents. Bigotry and racism. Due to that, I can buy sandwiches and pasta elsewhere.

The shop owner seems to dislike his customers. Yesterday, I tried to pay for a sandwich I had ordered and he told me off. I still don't quite understand why, but I walked out to him taunting me. I suppose that I caught a stray emotional bullet from a man with an anger problem. I hope that he feels better soon, but unleashing anger on paying customers seems to be a poor business strategy. (Unless you're going for a Weiner Circle vibe.) I'll never go back. Why would I give money to a man who treats me like crap? There are plenty of other businesses in Andersonville and Uptown who treat customers like people rather than unwanted cretins.

We ordered delivery from here. George C. Was craving a chicken parm sandwich. And I really needed some soup. The delivery was timely and everything was packaged perfectly. No spills or anything. George C. devoured his sandwich. His craving was fully satisfied. I had the mushroom brie soup and the tomato basil soup. Both were delicious! However, the mushroom brie was, like, divine. Incredibly flavorful and impressive. The menu also has lots of other sandwiches. Several of the paninis sounded really good. I'll have to give one of those a go for my next order. And, of course, more of that mushroom brie soup. It's seriously incredible. Do yourself a favor and get some of it!

I would rate subs 4.5 but customer service 1. Seems to always be an issue. Placed an order online fir pick-up. Had to wait 45 mins for 3 subs. Initially it was 15 mins, but had to wait 45 mins while they took handled every walk-in order. I once waited in person for them to pull my online order and start it but they still made me wait and helped walk-in customers who came in after me.

I had a bad experience here today!! I been here 5-6 times and things were o.k. however today i got a bread with my sandwich that was super stale n old..I would have taken the sandwich back but i was super hungry so i ate it although the dough was super hard to bite thru!! I will give them one more shot and i also will mention this when i am in there next time!!

In a neighborhood where the sandwiches range from small to piled high to funky to gourmet, Piatto Pronto sticks to it's roots and serves up all your Italian favorites. A grocery store doubling as a deli, they've got the sub game mastered. Their dolce di parma - prosciutto, pesto, sundried tomato and basil - is solidly excellent and hits the spot every time. When I feel like going meatless, the caprese sub is my go-to. A 6" is enough to be fulfilling but for $2 more go for the 12" and save some for later. I've got my eye on the chicken parm sandwich for future indulgence. Even better, my dog loves Piatto Pronto. How so, you ask? Dogs don't - well, shouldn't - eat yummy footlong Italian subs, piled high with meats and cheeses and oils and tapenades and all sorts of delicious. It's people food! Well, along with the many other Andersonville businesses who dole out treats to our favorite furry friends, the staff always sends us on our way with a doggy-sized sample of meat and cheese. Family-approved! Low prices, high quality, substantial portions - get to this place PRONTO!

I lived in Andersonville for four years and subsisted on this place! I swear to god this is THE place for incredible food. Yesterday took a bus from Clark and Diversey where I live all the way up north to get my fIx. I also got a pound of freshly marinated artichoke hearts from the deli case.. Jesus god. (And great prices, too.) If you like great Italian food from people that know what they're doing. RUN (Also two blocks north on same side of the street is a fun Mexican bakery. You're welcome..) JR

I gave them a 2nd chance after my last delivery was so late it cost me a half hour of online work with a student, about $35. No call, no text, no apology. Today the deliver was over an hour later than promised: I order lunch before noon, it arrived after 2 PM. It no longer matters that the food is good - it is. But today's order, so late with no call, or text or email, was incorrect. We ordered Carrot Orange Lemon juice, and received a banana yogurt drink. When we called to ask where the food was, the phone rang & rang with no answer - just a computer voice indicating their voicemail box is full. If this is how they treat a new, lucrative customer, I'm sure it's full of complaints. I had given up & was playing with my son when the delivery finally came, and had to cut that short to many tears & screams. Just like last time, this late delivery proved a big disruption to our lives. I dare these men to reply and explain what happened. They'll never have our business again, but I'd like to know, just kind of academically.

So many reviewers have already called this place a gem so I won't repeat it. But it is. They've also said it has delicious food, is a great value, and has friendly service. Also all true. I've been going for years and am never disappointed. I love that I can get some fantastic, fresh sandwiches for lunch and also stock up for dinner and future meals. And yes, I did say sandwiches...plural...b/c I have several favorites and order them all. Love the leftovers. While I'm there I pick up soup, lasagne, ravioli etc for other meals. Such handy items to freeze for later. The meat lasagne is some of the best I've had. The chianti braised brisket ravioli is also on the top of my list. Corn/shrimp soup, Italian wedding soup, brie & mushroom soup...can't go wrong. Great Italian coffees, imported specialty items, gelato...what's not to love?

The bread they use for the subs is not good. Stale and cheap. Jimmy John's bread is better. If Piatto Pronto is your go-to for Italian subs give Bari a try; you'll never be able to go back.

Perfectly fresh and proportional Northern Italian sandwich (Il Milano). When this sandwich tastes light, in a good way, they know what they're doing. The other sandwiches and panini sound great as well. Classic place.

I ordered the meatball sandwich and it was awful. The bread was not toasted , the cheese was not melted and the meatballs were terrible. I tried to get a refund from Uber Eats and they told me to call the restaurant. I called the restaurant and they told me to talk to Uber. The man on the phone was very rude. I even asked if I could just get a credit for a sandwich for another day, I'm talking about 8 BUCKS. DO NOT waste your money on the meatball sandwich and in my opinion a place that could care less about thier customers.

I walked in on a Saturday morning and ordered the Cielo Panini and the Dolce di Parma 13" on baguette, grilled. I stood there for 15 minutes YES... FIFTEEN MINUTES a he made these sandwiches. There were no other customers. Just me. Two sandwiches. 15 minutes. It was not worth the wait. In fact, not only do I feel like I just wasted 15 minutes of my life, but also $17 of my hard earned money. The Cielo panini is described to be: Genoa salami, Italian copa, grilled zucchini, roasted red peppers with Jarlsberg cheese spread of tapenade and drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Mine didn't have grilled zucchini nor balsamic vinegar and if there was tapenade in there, it had zero flavor. But probably the most annoying aspect of this panini is that the cheese was 100% unmelted. This is a grilled panini. I waited 15 minutes. The cheese really should have been melted. Also, the bread was either too hearty --or more likely, just cut too thick. It hurt my teeth to bite. The Dolce di Parma was a little better, but not great. It is described on the menu as "Prosciutto di parma, sun dried tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella, pesto, oil and vinegar or tapenade." Mine was only missing one of the promised ingredients -- the basil. But I guess I hardly noticed it's absence since I did order it spread with pesto. I didn't like the pesto; it seemed manufactured and not fresh. I was similarly displeased with the prosciutto --it was rubbery and had an "off" flavor. And the "fresh mozzarella" on this sandwich was actually just those tiny not so fresh mozzarella balls. These don't work well in a sandwich. A nice wide slice of a real fresh mozzarella ball would be so much more palatable. The small balls just felt a like a cheap knock-off to real, fresh mozzarella. Service was friendly. Sandwiches disappointing. Might be a while before I return.

I love their sandwhiches!!! The bread is always perfectly crisp and soft on the inside. Prosciutto is sooooo good! They are just awesome. Great ingredients and great food. Never fails. Thanks!

Cute little Italian sandwich shop in Andersonville. The ingredients are all very fresh and of great quality. I always get the vegetarian sandwich. It's very filling and loaded with flavors and veggies. You will not miss the meat. My son has gotten the chicken Parmesan (delicious and HUGE) and the smoked salmon bagel - also amazing. The shop has a lot of on site made soups, salads and pastas available for purchase. You can also get deli meats, condiments and cheeses to take home. They have a lot of imported oils, drinks, chocolates, pastas, sauces and seasonings as well as interesting juices and sodas (I got a rose soda with was very refreshing and light). The staff are friendly, accommodating with any substitutions or food requests and helpful with answering any questions.

My family's been coming here for years and have never been disappointed by their sandwiches! A favorite is the Dulce di Parma. I've heard good things from friends about their soups too, but haven't gotten a chance to try them yet! The staff is always friendly and the sandwiches are usually made very quickly, but while waiting it's fun to browse the interesting assortment of products available around the store. They're also accommodating if you want to customize your sandwich a bit.

My favorite sandwich place on the north side by far! The prices are so reasonable, and whenever I can I go in person. The folks behind the counter are so kind and efficient. Also you get to peruse and leave with a new treat every time!

We've been ordering from Piatto Pronto for over a year now. We LOVE their sandwiches. I always get the Il Milano and my husband switches it up. Since the pandemic, we've also ordered a few groceries with our sandwich orders. The food is always delicious and the delivery fast. Our last delivery had a few errors (first time this has happened). And Piatto Pronto was incredibly gracious about it. Highly recommend them for a quick, yummy bite!

Finally stopped in after passing by a million times, and very glad I did! It's a small store with a limited selection of imported packaged goods and a huge deli counter with a great selection of sandwiches. The prices are very reasonable, the sandwiches are big, and the ingredients were quality. It's not particularly organized, and I saw a few regulars come in that were encouraged to skip to the front of the line, but I don't really hold that against them, rather, I'd recommend becoming a regular too! I have been searching for a good Italian sub shop on the north side and can comfortably say I found it. It's on the level with Grazianos or Bari, but with lower prices. I can't wait to try more of the menu.

As a native New Yorker with an array of deli experiences under my belt, Piatto Pronto is the real deal. I've gone numerous times and have had every single cold sandwich. All great with Milano being my favorite. Looking forward to trying their hot sandwiches.
