Sam the Cooking Will Open Basta! in San Diego’s Little Italy - Eater San Diego

"A new Italian fusion restaurant is coming to Little Italy, in the heart of Piazza della Famiglia. Basta!, which means “enough” in Italian, will open on Thursday, June 6, on the pedestrianized plaza across from the Little Italy Food Hall. Guests can dine and drink with a prime view of the iconic Little Italy Fountain and the passersby that come through the bustling neighborhood. Occupying 1,646 square feet, the indoor-outdoor restaurant has a patio terrace, bar, and dining area." - Helen I. Hwang

Cute small park in the south end of Little Italy. I went Friday night and there was a band that was just setting up in front of the fountain. The area in Little Italy had little stacks of pumpkins to decorate the street corners. Also walk around the area. It is just a few blocks but great for people watching and seeing the architecture of new and old. I loved these colorful houses on State street. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come see this area but if you’re already here stop by.

Charming public square with ample seating mostly in the bright sun so bring some sunscreen if it’s that season. Morning Glory adjoins and you can hear their music easily.

I always visit this plaza everytime visiting San Diego. Haven’t had a chance to grab food at any of the food courts in the plaza but I love the vibe and energy of the sharing outdoor sitting and occasional street musicians.

Yelp
This is the heart of Little Italy area. Lots of tables set out in the Piazza. The fountain is pretty compared to what you might find in Italy. The sound of planes taking off every few few minutes above. The food hall in the piazza. The brunch spot.

Yelp
The Piazza Della Famiglia is the ionic hot spot and meeting area in Little Italy! Its 10,000 sq ft open air work of art was dedicated and presented to the community on August 2, 2018. The Piazza is centrally located in Little Italy from the front of India St and the backside of Columbia. There are many chairs and tables to sit at enjoy people watching or one of the many restaurants from the food hall. Alcohol beverages are allowed but not from any outside sources than the food hall. The value for the food and drink prices are a little steep but I must say you are paying for the experiences like no other. There is a beautiful water fountain on the backside of Columbia, and the Piazza is decorated throughout the year based on seasons. From the left facing India, you have the beautiful Vici apartments, and to the right, you have Amici apartments. There are many events here held daily, such as on Thursday nights, they have salsa nights, and they also do trivia nights as well and wine and paint. The best thing to do for events is go to the little Italy page to keep up with the latest events. They even once had a boxing match that was really cool to watch. On Wednesday and Saturdays, they have the little Italy Mercarto market that stretches through the Piazza. The Piazza is also home to Taste of Little Italy, where they hold annual events for the spectacular tasting event. The best time to go is basically anytime you're in the area since you will get different experiences each visit since there is always something going on. If you go early in the morning, you might pass up the little italy crew deep cleaning the Piazza with high-pressure washers and a group of gentlemen playing cards drinking coffee. If you go in the afternoon, you might experience people having lunch outside and school age children passing through while getting out of school. At night time is when the magic happens and everyone comes out. You will see magicians, live music, jazz players, dancers, and a whole lot of pedicabs waiting to offer a ride. The nighttime is beautiful with lights and the glowing fountain. Overall, I can go on and on about the Piazza, but you will just have to see for yourselves since it's so worth checking out. This place is perfect for meetups with friends or having coffee or a nice alcoholic beverage with friends or family. The Piazza will always have a deep place in my heart since I have so many good memories from this ionic place.

Yelp
This is a beautiful open area surrounded by places to dine in fabulous authentic Italian cuisine restaurants and enjoy the little shops in Little Italy. Plenty of seating at the tables throughout the day and nice place to read a book and just enjoy the ambiance. There is also the Italian Catholic Church nearby and you can even take a nice walk in the area too.

Yelp
"La vita è bella" Life is beautiful indeed at Piazza Della Famiglia my friends. A wonderful spot to sit relax after dining at Little Italy's authentic flagship restaurant "Civico 1845" or grab some Dolci from your neighborhood authentic Solunto Bakery or get a latte from Caffe Italia. Take in the views across the way and see the lovely Pacific for days, this is Little Italy's heart and is dedicated to the past, present & future families of this charming Italian neighborhood. If you don't get excited or passionate about this Little Italian Village, don't worry, don't come back we're trying to keep this little gem a secret! Ciao, Xoxo

Yelp
This is a very nice small plaza nestled between Frost Me Cafe & Bakery and the Little Italy Food Hall, and the Vivi and Amo building hosting luxury apartments and shops. There plenty of shaded tables with umbrellas and a huge fountain right entrance of Columbia. It's a great place to soak up the local vibe and try some terrific eats by local merchants and specialty shops.

Yelp
Bottom Line: A lovely pedestrian plaza with some seating and great views down Date Street and out to the bay. What I really appreciate about Piazza Della Famiglia are the views. The plaza has a touch of elevation on it and you can look all the way down Date Street (I think) and see the ships docked in San Diego Bay. On a clear day I imagine this most be a lovely sight because even with the marine layer close by I really enjoyed the views. Adding to the ambiance there is a large fountain and lots of lovely hanging baskets. The piazza has some tables and chairs and its a great place to enjoy a bite from the adjacent food hall or other nearby eateries. This is a quaint spot in downtown San Diego where time seems to slow down.

Yelp
Small plaza that's totally alive and lots of fun. We hung out there our last two nights in San Diego. Lots of food options in the Piazza and in the surrounding neighborhood. Great for families or a hot date night !!! Great music!

Yelp
It's ok - not much to speak of - it's just an open area, after all. Lots of hipster mommy pushing dual strollers. A good meeting/stepping off point for Little Italy adventures. There is NO parking. Park in the Little Italy lot and walk, or rent a scooter, or my preferred way - Old Town Park & Ride and Uber in.
