On the Grid : Piccino Coffee Bar

"Roll up to this tiny cafe on any given day and you're likely to find a line out the door. True to its name, Piccino (Italian for "little") is a diminutive jewel box filled with small treasures: spicy-sweet scones studded with golden ginger, fluffy ricotta tortas filled with seasonal vegetables, and decadent dark chocolate cookies. And then there's the coffee. Meticulously made espresso drinks and pourovers feature locally roasted Sightglass beans. Take your treats to the park across the street or enjoy them at the cafe's single communal table." - Hearsay Supper Club

I ordered a flat white , the coffee tasted excellent and the service was great.

Espresso is amazing. I had a flat white and it is the perfection extraction, reminding me of the coffee I had in Italy. They know how to make good coffee!

Google
This is hands down the best coffee I've had in Dogpatch — and possibly all of San Francisco. The quality is unmatched! Their espresso is rich and smooth, and the way they steam the milk to silky perfection is pure love. The vibe of the place is just as on point One of the best parts? They're open late from Wednesday to Sunday — a dream come true for late-night coffee lovers like me. Do yourself a favor and try their banana bread and mocha. Absolutely fabulous. You’ll be hooked after the first bite and sip!

Google
Food was good 😊, the service was a little busy somewhat grumpy/ impatient on that day we were there, but it's Sunday brunch so we tried to understand. The atmosphere is amazing. I love the area and the restaurant itself. The food was great, but may not be worth the price. It wasn't extraordinary or at least something more complex that I would say, no can't make that at home. Taste is exceptional, but maybe pricing OR serving size needs some check?

OMG! This little cozy coffee place is my favorite in the neighborhood, the staff is awesome, great costumer service, super friendly. Bravo 👏

Google
Cute local neighborhood spot for coffee with both doors wide open upon my arrival. Mixes of natural woods, homemade ceramic cups/containers, fresh quick grabngo meals. Got an iced mocha and gluten free carrot cake. The mocha is as I think modest in size relative to the price but and ideally have liked it sweeter/more chocolate flavor BUT if you’re looking for rich, authentic espresso flavors this was a good place. The gluten free carrot cake was extremely soft with a crumbly top. I think it was slightly expensive for the price but otherwise remarkable flavor and texture.

Google
Great small coffee shop and bakery. Not really a place for a sit down coffee although spots outside in front. The coffee is the star of the show here, baristas are pros. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the dog patch

Google
Such good coffee. Piccino gives heavy Italian vibes. The coffee bar is an external little nook that offers coffee, bunch of food, and home made dog snacks. The flat white was so good and exactly how I wanted it.

Yelp
Visited on a Wednesday morning at 9 AM with a group of friends. It was a bit busy, but the line moved quickly--we were in and out in 10 minutes. I ordered a cappuccino and a pear jam twice-baked almond croissant. The coffee was delicious--creamy and not too acidic. The croissant was good, though not my favorite, as it wasn't as buttery, but it paired nicely with the coffee. Overall, I'd 100% revisit for the coffee! Easily one of the best coffee in the area.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to get coffee/pastries in the Potero Hill neighborhood!! It's a small and cozy interior and can feel packed with just a couple of people waiting in line. The staff was quick and attentive in getting through the line, super nice crew! They have a cute selection of pastries, where I ordered a standard drip coffee and a pear crossaint. The coffee was excellent, and really enjoyed how they source their coffee. It's the perfect place to go that combines good quality coffee with a good selection of pastries

Yelp
Came by after a climbing session for a much needed boost of energy. I got an espresso con panna. Very simple. The espresso was very acidic. The panna didn't help to mellow out the acidity as much as I wanted to. It was good coffee, but it just wasn't my preference. Will try something else the next time I come.

Yelp
Cute space, friendly staff, yummy drinks- what more could you ask for! I got the oat milk matcha latte with honey and it was really good. Cute area with lots of parking!

Yelp
This is a cute little coffee shop in Dogpatch! Came here on a Wednesday morning at around 9:20 AM and there was a small line that went quickly. They have a small selection of pastries that all look very good. The cashier was very quick to get my pastry and was very friendly. I got the Ginger Scone, and it was good -- I loved the big chunks of crystalized ginger in it, though it didn't taste overwhelmingly ginger. The texture was maybe a tad more crumbly than to my liking, but I enjoyed it regardless. Would come back to try their Pear Jam Croissant or their Sundried Tomato and Onion Biscuit that caught my eye -- they looked great!

Yelp
Love this spot! Their scones are baked perfectly and the coffee is just right. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Outstanding coffee and service. The ambiance is lovely, there is no indoor seating as the space is very small but there's a bench outside and the dogpatch neighborhood has many wonderful outdoor areas to sit and enjoy coffee. I have to call out how life changing their banana muffin is. I know very few people get excited about banana muffins but I tried theirs on a whim and it is easily the best banana muffin I could imagine. Soft and delicate, caramel-y, gone too soon. 10/10 the coffee is great and the banana muffin is in a class all it's own.

Yelp
Love getting to come here when I'm in the dogpatch! In a world where many third wave shops try to push the envelope on their architecture and ambience, Piccino is a simple, warm walk up counter that serves great coffee and pastries. I love the sign behind the register. Will be back the next time I'm in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee bar, yummy treats, friendly guys. Stop in and grab a coffee then sit in the cute park nearby!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops at the moment. It is off of the freeway so it's convenient to come here before going to the Bay Bridge or downtown. Their coffee and pastries are good, and they have a nice, cute park next door where you can bask in the sun while enjoying your morning coffee. My favorite things to order here are the matcha latte or the cold brew. For the pastry my favorite is the ginger scone.
google avatar

Ankita S.

Yelp
The latte boasts a robust, smooth profile with a touch of bitterness rather than acidity. My friend ordered Mocha and enjoyed it. While pastries are tempting, I missed trying them. Service was ok. Nothing great. It's a compact shop with no seating, but you can enjoy your brew at the nearby park. A gem for coffee lovers and a must-visit in Dogpatch!

Yelp
Good little cafe for a Sunday coffee date. Located in a nice neighborhood that you can stroll around in as you sip your coffee. The place is very small so there aren't any seats, but there is a little park right across the street with some outdoor seating. Service here was very quick and the coffee was good.

Yelp
Piccino has the best coffee in the neighborhood. What more needs to be said about a coffee shop?
google avatar

Yelp
Piccino Coffee Bar is one of my visually favorite parts of the Dogpatch neighborhood, and I always see it bustling with customers (and sometimes dogs!) for very good reason. I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk here, which I recommend for people who enjoy a wake-me-up coffee that's equally as sweet. As much as I was satisfied with the drink, though, it was also pretty expensive even for SF standards. :')

Yelp
Tl;dr - this has become one of my go-to coffee joints in Dogpatch. Coffee is excellent and they have an interesting smattering of pastries. If you like ginger, get their ginger scones! No seating. Parking isn't terribly difficult around the area. I've come here a few times before work to get my caffeine fix. What I've tried so far: - Iced coffee: this is pretty much their version of a cold brew. Nice, dark, and robustly flavored. - Vanilla latte: love how this isn't too sweet and the bitterness of the espresso shines through. - Iced americano: also very robust and full-bodied! I usually drive here and haven't found issues with parking on the street or nearby park.

Yelp
Don't know why this place doesn't have more reviews. One of the few coffee shops around dogpatch. Small and 'open air' cafe; there aren't seats inside but there are benches and a park across the street to sip on your coffee while. Seems to me people would just purchase a coffee and/or pastry and sit in front and chat. It's nice, it does give more of a 'neighborhood feel' vs the bigger chains in the city. They also sell freshly roasted sightglass coffee beans and will grind for you in store. I'm a sucker for this and definitely picked a bag with my iced coffee. There is parking along the street but limited. There is a restaurant right next door which I believe is connected to the cafe. Price wise it is on the higher end. Drinks were decent. I got an iced coffee With oatmilk, hard to mess that one up. There is a separate station to add your own milk/sugar by yourself . Handsanitizer provided.

Yelp
Piccino is a tiny coffee bar that serves a decent menu of to-go drinks. I came here today with a friend and had a large mocha. My drink was yummy and not too sweet. It had a nice leaf art on top, which was a great touch. The barista was polite, but not overly friendly or talkative. He was focused on getting the drinks done quickly. Based on this experience only, I would've given four stars. The reason I cut an additional star is because of the lack of seating in this coffee bar. It would've been great to have a place to sit and enjoy our drinks, instead of having to walk to the park across the street while catching up with my friend. While some folks may enjoy their coffee on the run, there's definitely an argument to be made about the social value of coffee and about coffee as a social glue--connecting people and building bonds. For this, one needs a comfortable place to sit and relax, something that Piccino lacks. There's a single bench on the curb next to a trash can. The lack of seating also means this business creates immense amounts of trash by serving drinks in single-use cups, which while compostable are still not great for the planet.

Yelp
A really cute neighborhood spot! This rating is special because they serve lattes and hot caffeinated beverages till 9pm! Which is an anomaly to say the least in sf! The coffee is great, and their service is really good too!

Yelp
This place is a gem in Dogpatch. Excellent coffee that hits the spot with delicious pastries that are a feast for the eyes as well. The manager, Adam, warmly greeted me to help explain the offerings and how everything is homemade and hyper seasonal. He also greeted another regular by name. Seems like a beloved staple of the neighborhood. Will definitely swing by for dinner with friends to try their pastas and pizzas!

Jasmine M.

Yelp
The coffee is great at this small gem! I'm very picky with my matcha lattes and they definitely make one of the best ones!
google avatar

Yelp
Good coffee to wake you up!! Coffee here was really strong! We ordered the oat latte and oat cortado and both were really good and creamy! If you're lucky to find parking around here, you'll really enjoy this coffee spot. It's across the street from a little park with lots of benches, and it's close to stores on third that you can stroll through! (P.S. they're dog friendly and have dog treats at the counter!)
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent americano and decaf cappuccino! They sell the beans on sight, I haven't tried them yet.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday morning, and the line was decently short which was nice. There's also a small park right next door, which makes for a great place to sit down to enjoy your coffee and pastries! I got a ginger scone which was amazing. The ginger was not overwhelming, and there were chunks of dried ginger scattered throughout the scone that gave sweet spicy punches of flavor. The scone itself was chewy and crumbly, and definitely not too dry (which is something I always worry about for scones). Would definitely come back just for this ginger scone again! The iced coffee was also great. The flavor was strong and a bit nutty, and adding a splash of milk added a good deal of creaminess. I wish I had the chance to try their cappuccino (my drink of choice), but having just got my wisdom teeth pulled, they were too sensitive for warm drinks! Overall, definitely a coffee shop to stop by if you're in the area.

Yelp
Piccino serves up a mean latte! They also have a bakery outside on Saturdays, maybe also even Sundays? They have sourdough, cookies, croissants, and some other baked goodies. All baked fresh in the morning (and of course a lot of prep the night before). I got the chocolate croissant and it was flakey, buttery, chocolate goodness. I'll be back for more :)

Yelp
Still one the best coffee houses in the city. Great location with challenging parking. The Flat White was absolutely perfect. Let me tell you about the focaccia. It was the best lunch O have had in a long time. Thank you to the employees for the recommendation. If you are in the Dogpatch you need to try this place.
google avatar

Shubhansha A.

Yelp
Small takeout coffee shop with decent options. It's really was the only one in the neighborhood for long, highlight was the sight glass coffee beans. Snack options were underwhelming.

Christopher C.

Yelp
Great crew! Awesome tasting coffee! Well hidden in the DogPatch area with lots of families strolling about town.
google avatar

Yelp
Really friendly staff, tasty espresso. Also love that they provided a glass of sparkling water with my espresso. Will be going back next time I'm in Dogpatch.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place coming off the train. Got an iced vanilla latte, sooo good! They were quick! I immediately knew it was going to be good, based on the color- if you know what I mean ;)
google avatar

Yelp
On possibly the cutest corner in the Dogpatch, nestled between a cobalt blue wall where you can buy fresh custom flower arrangements and the yellow facade of its parent restaurant with possibly the best pizzas in sf, this coffee bar is my newfound favorite. Brewing up locally roasted sight glass coffee, and selling house made treats, this place is an absolute gem. The service is fantastic. The treats are delicious. The coffee is perfect. I ordered an almond latte and a plumb crostata and was more than pleasantly surprised! Highly recommend stopping by on your morning s
google avatar

Yelp
Cute spot. Sadly the biscotti and the pastry didn't taste as fresh. Coffee was just average.

Yelp
A little coffee shop with cute aesthetics in dogpatch neighborhood! We stopped by on a Sunday early afternoon and there were quite a few people coming for their coffee. There wasn't a line thought as the barista took our orders and made them swiftly:) They have some snacks and pastries too but we didn't get to try them this time. Would definitely visit again when in this area!
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Yum! Excellent coffee, delicious pastries and the best focaccia mortadella sandwich I've had in a long time. All their pastries are made fresh and they sound super interesting. I've heard incredible things about this restaurant so I was excited to try their cafe and wasn't disappointed at all. The baristas are also super friendly and the service is quick!

Yelp
I passed by this establishment just wanting one item but very curious about anything else they had to offer. The moment I walked in I was given a long once over and it made me very uncomfortable. We waited patiently and once we got up to order ....it was so dead silent and akward I wanted to walk out. To the blond haired employee "Next time U want to be sarcastic and stare at people like they are scum is the day you check yourself! I literally asked for one thing and I didn't need your attitude at all. And to the Tall, dark haired barista "You need to seriously get an attitude check and calm TF down". Not only did you not announce my order was ready so I had no idea what was going on with my order, My fiancè literally went up to just politely ask "If this was ____ drink" and in my face you treated him disrespectfully....For no reason. I've had jobs in the service industry and I made it a point to be polite and welcoming...unlike what I encountered. If both of you are having a bad day for whatever reason or if you are just downright bitchy ....go back to school and find another profession. Not to mention I found it funny how the lady before us who was "white" was giving you guys a hard time and you had a completely treatment "demeanor" until you saw me ..... Btw My drink was super bland and barely hot smh.

Yelp
I added some The setup here is super cute and COVID friendly, but I honestly have no idea what the other reviewers are saying about great coffee. You definitely will not find that here. Coffee is mediocre at best. I don't think they really know what they're doing. My friend ordered an iced coffee with and I ordered an iced vanilla latte and we were charged $6.50 for both (12oz cups) - that's arguably justifiable for a latte, but charging the same price for iced coffee is criminal. I think both drinks were 50% vanilla syrup because that's all we could taste. Also, when I ordered the iced latte, the woman taking my order asked me if I wanted milk in it... anyone with a basic understanding of coffee knows what a latte is and that it's majority milk. We won't come here again. I make better coffee at home.
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
It's no secret I'm obsessed with Piccino so it's a no brainer that Piccino Coffee Bar is just as wonderful. I purchased their latte with oat milk, a ham and cheese scone and a pup treat. The coffee was smooth and strong. The scone was flakey and flavorful. And the pup of course loved the treat, but he isn't very picky. Service was quick and friendly. Such a nice option for delicious coffee and some yummy snacks (both for puppies and their humans).

Yelp
A very lovely neighborhood coffee bar. Delicious pastry and even better cappuccino! Friendly service, it's nice that there are always customers, but the service is super zippy fast! Love this neighborhood sit. It never disappoint.

B S.

Yelp
Super cute setup! Excellent vegan pastry selection, even late in the day. Cortado was tasty although the pour in the to-go cup left something to be desired-- good foam, just a clunky attempt at latte art. Biscotti was good although not as good as some of my favorites in North Beach.
google avatar

Eun J.

Yelp
Loooooved the coffee and it pairs well with all their baked goods. Yes, I am a fan. Lovely area around it too.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Delicious everything! Coffee and baristas are awesome and the morning bakery items are some of the best in the city
google avatar

balprit c.

Yelp
This coffee bar is located on the cutest block in the dog patch! I was very pleased with the mulled wine I had. The option to substitute ingredients and to basically create your own egg nog drink was quite impressive. The gentleman who helped me was very kind and patient. I'll be back soon!
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Cute store front, but hot coffee came cold and took 20 minutes. Surly staff had absolutely no time for us. By the way, the latte cost $6.75. Good lord never again, lots of much better choices a block or two away.

Richard L.

Yelp
Attached to a restaurant, but unable to heat pastries? And already expensive. Why can't you add a small oven! It's not a health services licensing issue, since you ALREADY have a full kitchen. And excuses about "covid" don't fly anymore.

Jun L.

Yelp
Got charged like $6 for an Iced coffee that tasted nothing like iced coffee and vanilla flavoring was very artificial

ST T.

Yelp
Great pastries, the onion and rosemary scone was unbelievably good and soft for a vegan pastry.. and the biscotti was pretty good too... my partner said his mocha was good but not great. Nice ambience and great pastries. Overall a go from me! May be I will give this coffee bar a try a couple more times and see if I can bump up the rating to 5.

Molly I.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Delicious coffee, fabulous cafe treats and some other interesting drinks! They've also done a great job during COVID to maintain safe practices. Glad to call them our local cafe!
