OC’s Mexican Restaurant Descanso Opens in LA’s Mid-Wilshire This Summer - Eater LA

"Once one of the busiest retail stretches in Los Angeles, Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade has never quite seen this many vacancies. However, the once vibrant commercial district hopes to rebound with new “eatertainment” venues like an incoming pickleball space called Pickle Pop. An SF Gate report dives deep into the outdoor mall’s storied history, and how the return of Barnes & Noble, the pickleball venue (think TopGolf, but pickleball), and the long-awaited Din Tai Fung could help turn things around." - Matthew Kang

Recently a guy from the office coordinated a company outing to PicklePop in Santa Monica. While everyone was a bit nervous to see if he could come up with a good event, it turned out GREAT! The facility was clean and comfortable, with being indoors protecting us from weather. The staff was fun and just the right amount of interactive. You could tell the staff appreciated the group, and went out of their way to make it a special time for everyone - from beginners to well-experienced players. Definitely recommend PicklePop in Santa Monica to anyone looking for a great experience!

Popped in for Pickle last week! What a terrific location & pickleball set-up for open pickleball. It was easy to make a reservation online. I signed up for the women’s intermediate session. The other players were very friendly & welcoming. Very good players that play with each other regularly. They offer a monthly or reasonable drop-in rate. Three courts that rotated the players. There is plenty of seating to watch the games & concession area for drinks & relax. Let’s have a pickleball party! Great way to reuse the 3rd street mall space into something fun & productive! The space is bright & inviting. Easy to find parking all around area. Thanks for experience!

Google
Picklepop is so much fun! Got to play some incredible games with great folks. I love reserving a court and getting to show my friends the game of pickleball. One of those friends then held their birthday party and we had a blast! The drinks are great and the staff are so helpful and supportive. It’s a beautiful venue! I just wish they had one on the east side!

I finally got to check out Pickle Pop on my last trip to LA after following them on Instagram. This place did not disappoint. The staff was great! Jane greeted us, set us up with equipment and a court. We played for an hour and had so much fun! Better than expected. 10/10!

The first time I came here was for an advanced open plays assessment. I was met by Patrick who kindly schooled me on how to hit more aggressive dinks. I have been a happy member ever since. The open plays are well done and the community is friendly. My company also hosted an event here and we had a blast. There is dedicated staff during the events who help teach the game to beginners and run a tournament. Highly recommend.

This place is so cute and I had a blast! We came during a slower hour and ended up being short a player. One of the workers, Peyton, stepped in for us and had us laughing so hard. He gave us great advice and we were really improving our game! Please open a court in Magnolia, Texas! If I won the lottery, I would fly to California once a week, just to recreate that experience:)

Pickle Pop is such a blast! The vibes are amazing, the atmosphere is super fun, and the staff makes you feel right at home. Whether you're hanging out with friends or throwing an event, this place is perfect. Already counting down the days until I can go back!

Google
PicklePop is the perfect mix of fun and pickleball! Great vibes, awesome music, and a bar to grab drinks after a game. The staff is super friendly, and the courts are solid. Whether you're a pro or just playing for fun, it's a great spot to hang out and play. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
saw this place on a walk in the promenade and went in to see what it was. It is so cute and aesthetic! When I went, the staff was so nice and made sure everyone was on their courts promptly!

Yelp
I had an overall good time because I love pickleball but here are some things I noted. Cons: Bathrooms - they're located downstairs & are scary to get to. Even the walk down there smells horrible and the bathrooms themselves stink. Music - I liked the music they played (Top 100) but it was so loud I couldn't hear what my opponents would say at all. Ball Retrieval - it is obvious that the area used to be a store, but they need to clean up the former dressing room area because balls would go back there and we couldn't find them because of the random stuff the ball would get lost in. Pros: - there are only 3 courts so it's a much less interrupted game - you can try different paddles for a fee (I think it's like $5 or something) - love love loved the pink decor - they had a bench for waiting for games (we had 6 people renting out 1 court) - they have a large basket of balls to use - employees are really nice and super chill

Yelp
A fun spot for indoor pickleball! The staff is super friendly and welcoming. I like that booking a court online was quick and easy - made the whole experience seamless. It's right next to the promenade --great for grabbing a bite before or after playing. I love that I can play rain or shine

Yelp
Fun indoor pickleball spot. Only 3 courts. Would be 5 stars but the court surface isn't up to par. It's not the same quality surface as a hard tennis/pickleball court you would find indoors so the traction isn't there. I found myself slipping and sliding a bit when I was running hard for a ball. Overall it was fun.

Yelp
Great spot for indoor pickleball. Great music and bar is cheap and convenient. Coco is the best and even jumped in for a game bc we were short one. I don't know why people complain about the bathrooms, they're clean and it's a short walk. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
This place is so sick! I came for a birthday party and coaches were so helpful- especially coco! She was super detailed in her coaching. Can't wait to go back for my birthday!

Yelp
This place was adorable! I went with my friends and had such a good time. Coco was so friendly and made sure to help out when I didn't understand the point system. Super clean facility and very friendly members!

Yelp
Pickle Pop is hands down the best pickleball venue on the West Coast! The facility is top-notch, the atmosphere is unbeatable, and the staff goes above and beyond to make every visit a great experience. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, you'll feel welcome here. Plus, the drinks are fantastic--perfect for celebrating a win or just enjoying the vibe. Come with your friends! Come with your family! Come with your colleagues! Come with your neighbors! Come with an ex! Come ALONE! No matter who you come with, you're guaranteed a great time!

Yelp
I visited Pickle Pop recently and was blown away by the facilities. I'm a huge pickleball fan, so I'm certainly going to spread the word about this place with all my pickleball pals. Huge thank you to Peyton for the recommendation!

Yelp
Pickle Pop is a great pickleball spot with well-kept courts and a friendly vibe. Coco was super helpful!

Yelp
The best place for indoor Pickle Ball in Santa Monica. They have memberships but anyone can either book a private court or play at one of their Open Play sessions. Different levels from beginner to advanced. They offer private and group lessons as well. I love the surface as it's way easier on the legs/back then playing on hard tennis courts. An excellent option when the weather gets cold, rainy, or windy. They have three courts and it's right on the Promenade where the Adidas Store used to be. Ceilings are high enough where you can still lob -- but it has to be perfect. They also offer private parties, corporate events, and a full bar for enjoying yourself after your workout. Did I mention the whole place is pink?! Friendly staff too - thanks Erin, Steph, and Jane!

Yelp
Unfortunately, just now we were visiting the farmers market and walked into this establishment. The gentleman at the front desk looked at us, turned his head and completely dismissed that we even walked in. Not a hello, not an acknowledgment not a wave absolutely nothing. To the owners, I suggest that you look at your cameras at 10:06 AM and see the kind of front desk person you have representing your organization. We were super excited about trying this out and because of the lack of service and dismissal, we walked right out. And if you are the owner, who is at the front desk, shame on you.

Yelp
This place is cute but definitely not worth the price for how unfinished it is. If you are a woman DO NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM ALONE. The bathroom areas is downstairs and seems very unsafe with curtain separating you from the other side of a massive creepy basement.

Yelp
Really fun spot for pickleball indoors no matter the weather, which comes with paddles and balls so anyone can walk in and play! The spot is fun and pink and has alcohol to drink too! They still have the outdoor court material as well even tho it's inside. It is way more expensive to book for an hour than other courts, but comes with a lot!

Yelp
Pickle Pop is stunning. The staff is incredible. I walked in one day and Jane was sitting at the front desk. She thoughtfully taught me about how to reserve a court and what paddle I should use. You could tell how much she cares about the customers. I fell in love with this place immediately. The aesthetic is beautiful. The stained glass facade. I heard people calling it "The Cathedral of Pickleball". I don't know much about the game or the people that play it, but I do know about experience. I was given a stellar 5 star experience . They went above and beyond for a customers happiness. I can't wait to go in again. I might even try my skill at open play, although I think my skill set is better fit for the bar! Haha. Pickle pop single handedly brought back the light to 3rd Street.

Yelp
This was the first time I played pickle ball. I've wanted to do it since I first heard about it. Recently I had a bachelor party and I gathered 9 friends. I reserved 2 courts and we freaking had a blast. We challenged each group of 2 players from each team and it was not only a bonding time, we all were getting super into it. Naturally I'm a tennis player ( I play a lot) but even for someone who has never played, it evens out since you don't have to be good to start out ok. this was a great place to start and a whole lot of fun .

Yelp
TLDR: Only go here for free play, not events. We recently hosted an event at Pickle Pop, and while the venue showed potential, several aspects fell short of our expectations, leading to a less-than-satisfactory experience. Our event was disorganized and did not meet the expectations set in their events package. The staff, while friendly, did not provide the necessary support to manage the event from start to finish. The discrepancies in service and invoicing after the event marred what could have been a very easy event for them to execute. For all the issues below, Picklepop only acknowledged the delayed court time so they offered 20% off ($107) our remaining balance, minus the deposit and bar tab already paid before the discount. Pros: - The event scheduling process was straightforward via email. - The facility itself is gorgeous with very nice courts. - The staff was friendly. - Owners immediately responded to our concerns about the discrepancies in charges and services (see below). Cons: - The event started late due to the previous group loitering, causing a delay and clutter. Picklepop says this was a ~10-minute delay but that's how long it took us to get on the courts. These groups did not pack up their stuff/leave for an additional ~20 minutes (25% of our total "private" court time). - Despite our package coming with professional instruction and organized play, there was no effort made to facilitate our games or provide the support we were promised. Picklepop says their staff asked us multiple times if we needed anything and that was why none of these services were offered. - The bar, which had a $20 minimum spend per person, was not staffed and poorly managed. The event concluded with the staff unable to reconcile our tab at the bar against the minimum required. Despite us being on one bill, they also could not provide any form of itemized receipt. - Picklepop charged our bar minimum a second time in our post-event invoice but removed it after it was confirmed we paid in person. Full notes on invoicing issues and owner's follow up below* - Water was not available; instead, they were only available for purchase, which was a disappointment given how hot the venue was inside. *When organizing our event, we were explicitly told we could adjust our minimum attendees (which the per-person costs were based on) closer to our event date. We had fewer people attend than expected, which I proactively communicated to their team, but we were still charged the original number on our contract. Picklepop chose to uphold the contractual payment terms which I only signed after their earlier emails confirmed we could adjust the attendees. They said their intention in their earlier communication was to allow us to add more people, not less. In other words, they would never let us adjust our minimum unless it was to their benefit.

Yelp
I love this place!! I went here for my birthday party and we had a blast. Super easy and great staff. Just make sure you plan an extra 10 minutes for parking and walking over.

I was there for a Hank event for seniors. It was great fun and instructional. I got a good workout for sure

Yelp
When Pickle Pop was opened last year I was cynical. I was playing 3-5 days per week for free outside so why should I pay? Then I played at Pickle Pop when they offered a free trial. It took that one 2 hour session for me to figure out that playing here was a whole new and different experience. A professional pickleball surface which reduces injuries over playing on concrete. No wind. No sun. No waiting. Professional nets. I joined immediately and put together my own 2 hour private games. No waiting means much better exercise for me. At 71 years old playing 4 days per week with no waiting in ideal conditions (no wind, no sun, no waiting, and your own private games...I'm all in. BTW my dermatologist loves that I'm playing indoors. The people there are great too. This is a real review...I'm not related to anyone there..just very happy I found this place!

Yelp
I LOVE PICKLE POP! It's a beautiful indoor facility with a warm staff and great amenities. There's no wind, no sun, no wait times in between games... All of this is key. I was so excited when they opened and could not be more excited to continue to play here. Huge fan, and I highly recommend!

Yelp
This is the best place to play pickleball!! I live in the valley and the drive is worth it to me because of the friendly staff and atmosphere. I love that it's an indoor court and always have such a fun time there. They also throw the best events. Highly recommend!!
