Where to Eat Before a Football Game in Baltimore | Eater DC

"The mainstay sports bar becomes a sea of purple during Ravens season and turns orange during the Orioles game. Come for the crab dip pretzels and Old Bay wings, stay for the drink specials." - Julekha Dash

Went to Pickles Pub to wait out the rain delay. We were seated immediately. Couldn't get better service, and the food was delish! It tasted better than any other food we ate that whole weekend, and was probably our least expensive meal! Kudos on the Pickle shot idea, my hubby loved it!

Google
My recent visit to Pickles Pub was nothing short of a fantastic experience, solidifying its reputation as a must-visit spot, especially if you're in the vicinity of Camden Yards. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a great pub – lively, welcoming, and buzzing with energy, perfect for catching a game or just enjoying a casual meal with friends. I opted for the Honey BBQ wings and a side of fries, and both exceeded my expectations. The wings were cooked to perfection, they were crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and generously coated in a delicious, sticky honey BBQ sauce that struck the ideal balance between sweet and tangy. They were easily some of the best wings I've had in a long time. The fries were also excellent: golden brown, perfectly salted, and with that satisfying crispness you crave. It was clear that the kitchen takes pride in its pub fare, elevating classic dishes to a higher standard. Beyond the delicious food, the service truly stood out. Our server was incredibly attentive, checking in on us regularly without being overbearing. They were quick to refill drinks, clear empty plates, and ensure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Despite the bustling environment, they managed to make us feel like we were their top priority, which is a testament to their professionalism and dedication. This level of service really enhanced our overall enjoyment of the meal. In conclusion, Pickles Pub is a winner. The combination of excellent food, particularly those standout Honey BBQ wings and perfectly cooked fries, paired with genuinely attentive service, makes it a top recommendation. Whether you're looking for a pre-game bite or just a solid pub experience, Pickles Pub delivers. I'm already planning my next visit!

Google
I went to Pickles Pub before an Orioles game while visiting Baltimore, and it was a great experience. For starters, all of the servers were very friendly and helpful. Menus were on a QR code, and you ordered on your phone and paid prior to getting the food, which was convenient but may be off-putting for some people. The atmosphere was also very nice. There was good music playing, there were multiple different sports channels on, and everyone was friendly. Outside, people could stand and have drinks in a roped-off area of the street if they weren't ordering any food, but the food there was great. Big portions for reasonable prices, and delicious as well. Definitely enough to leave you full and satisfied throughout the game. It is also great location-wise, being directly next to a Hampton Inn for visitors and right across the street from Orioles Park. I would definitely recommend if you are going to a game or just want some good food with a good atmosphere.

Google
Burger....seasonLESS. It was UNABLE to get that "smashburger SEAR" bc of the meat. Good for a doggie snack for sure. Would NOT re-order, refer, nor recommend to anyone. Very nice O's crowd packed in enjoying the drinks and vibes. Maybe if I was drunk and lost my taste I could've enjoyed my burger!🫤😩

Google
Atmosphere is super live especially after an o Orioles game, the service is actually amazing and makes sense, you order on your phone and the food comes out super fast. The food wasn't bad, just mediocre. But if you're visiting Baltimore, you have to do a game then go to pickles

Google
My brother and I always like to try new places to eat whenever we travel. This was such a fun place to visit. We had a great server, Alex. Side note: You place your order through scanning a QR Code. The food arrived promptly and was very good. I would highly recommend their chicken tenders and chips! They were so good!

Went here for lunch with a friend, was not disappointed. We went on a weekday so it was pretty much empty. Got the FPBLT and a side of fries (the fries were not included with the sandwich) and it was very delicious. Will definitely return the next time I visit Baltimore

Google
9/10/2024 I went here just to experience the Crab Pretzel and i will say i wasn't disappointed. I went on a weekday during the day so it was very empty there was only 3 ppl in there. The servers was very nice and quick. The pretzel was very soft and favorable i could finish the whole think but i definitely took the rest to go it was so soft and fluffy. All i did was pop it in the microwave and it came out just as soft as it was when i first ordered it. I will definitely order again

Yelp
You must love sports/dive bars to enjoy this place! My sister in law and I came here after nearly starving to death (not literally) after checking into the hotel next door and it was recommended by the valet that night. From what I understand this place is a Baltimore staple especially being across from the stadiums. Once coming in the doors you are immediately hit with loud music/TV's most of which were on sports. You will not receive any assistance from anyone so you must find your own table and once you do there are QR codes on the table to order drinks and food (not my favorite thing in the restaurant industry these days) but their app is very user friendly my only complaint is the drinks don't tell you what comes in them. The cocktails are amazing (little on the small side but strong) and the chicken wings are to die for especially the honey old bay OMG the regular buffalo were good too! I love how they come with cucumbers instead of the usual carrots and celery as I always waste those. There fried pickle spears were also really good wasn't a fan of the fries. Just be careful on your way out especially after a few cocktails as the steps seem steeper leaving then when arriving :-)

Yelp
Shouldn't have ordered Crab dip at a dive bar- know better now, but being this is Maryland we thought it would be okay to try. Do not order the crab dip- or anything that comes with it. You will get food poisoning.

Yelp
Get to the ball park early and enjoy a beverage and food at pickles. When it gets too crowded inside, they have outdoor area roped off for consumption of beverages. Menu selection is standard pub food, but definitely get the fried pickles! All team fans are welcome so please give everyone a warm welcome- yea even Yankee fans.....

Yelp
Pickles Pub's extensive first floor is crowded with people on their bar stools and high-top tables. The walls are lined with Flat Screen Televisions that are gleaming with Orioles Baseball. The smell of beer and buffalo wing sauce is the finest aroma one will experience. The view of Brooks Robinson's bronzed form frozen in the middle of a throw to first, is just a short walk from Gate F of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The plaza is usually packed before a baseball game but manages to maintain a crowd even as the game begins. There is excitement in the air since the Baltimore Orioles are finally playing great baseball. The beers keep flowing and the crowd kept coming, it was another day for baseball and an evening at Pickles Pub which is always entertaining.

Yelp
Great service and one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. Regular pub atmosphere with friendly people.
google avatar

Smitha M.

Yelp
What can I say? One of the greatest pubs in the greatest city in America! I will tell everyone and anyone - you truly have NOT seen an Oriole's game if you did not have a pre-game or watched the entire game at Pickles Pub. The energy of everyone getting together to cheer on the O's is INFECTIOUS! On the busiest days, people are packed in the outdoor yard area almost like sardines in a can...but that doesn't stop me! Because then I know it's a good game ahead! Game day crushes are WELL WORTH their price. I will give you an advance notice they pack a punch! So either split one with a friend if you are a lightweight or you are done drinking for a little bit lol! I have add a few apps in the pub before - solid delicious pub food, no complaints. The staff are FAST and great communicators. Street parking is available, highly recommend garage parking.

Yelp
This is a place I would definitely want to visit before or after an O's game. The atmosphere reminds me a bit of Irish pubs I've enjoyed visiting elsewhere. The beer list is pretty good, and it's well prepared standard pub fare. But the most enjoyable part was actually the service. Our waitress was just so much fun with whom to have a conversation, answer all our questions, etc., that it increased our enjoyment of Pickles significantly. But why don't you get a pickle with or in your burger?
google avatar

Yelp
This place is fun! It's a typical local dive bar vibe so I wouldn't be wearing your nicest outfit or highest heels for this - it's a sneakers/jeans/t-shirt event. Didn't going when there was a game happening at home - so Camden Yards was quiet that night and the bar wasn't super packed or anything even though and Orioles and Red Sox game was playing that night on their big TVs. The establishment is a Baltimore staple as I understand it and went with my husband to check it out. Got your typical sports bar food but the recs were old bay and Honey wings and a alcoholic drink called the crusher. I also ended up getting a Crabby Patty as well since I wanted to incorporate another MD fave - crab! The food was fast and delicious! Wings were big and meaty - old bay spice is really celery forward so if you're not a fan of celery flavor - maybe stay away but the honey really helped calm that taste. The crabby patty was also really tasty, essentially its a burger with crab dip on top of the patty- it was MASSIVE. The orange crusher is tasty and massive as well. If you go there you could really split wings and a crusher if you're looking for something lighter. Even with two entrees is still split the crusher because it was strong! Overall had a great experience watching a game with locals and eating some really tasty sports bar food. My only rub is that - without tip - the total came out to be about $65. Which for dive bar food seems a little on the expensive side to me but the food was really good and really filling so take that as you will.

Jonathan P.

Yelp
The food was definitely not the best. Seemed like out of a box chicken and fries. The menu was very limited so you go for old faithful, chicken and fries, and it was a flop. Service was just barely ok. Maybe we were expecting more from a pub than we should have. The atmosphere...a bar plain and simple. Go for the drinks and for meeting up with friends, I'm sure you will not be disappointed, just don't expect much from the menu. Will not return.

Yelp
This is my first trip to Maryland and was here for a work trip. I stayed at the Hilton across the street so stopped at Pickles Pub for a casual bite with family. It's a low key spot right next to the ball park and I could see it being packed/fun on a game day. Staff were friendly and helpful. We sat at the picnic tables outside to enjoy the nice weather. One thing to note is if you sit outside you have to go inside to the counter to order or get drinks etc. Children were allowed in the restaurant despite it being a bar. I had the Crabby Patty and it was delicious! The fries were also great and we shared those, the Baltimore fries, and the spicy cheese balls. My brother got the Buffalo wings and they were surprisingly spicy! A serious bite and very vinegar forward. Nephew enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. And per usual I enjoyed my lemon crush!
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. I watched a female bartender do several shots and not actually serve drinks. Watched male bartender treat people badly. Will not return.
google avatar

Stephen C.

Yelp
Great bar for local sport fan especially those who are going to Orioles game. I got their Orange Crush which is orange juice and orange vodka, which is a staple of Maryland. And I personally thought it was a great combo. It's like juice! I also had their French Fries with Old Bay seasoning which is also a Maryland staple. I think if you are around for an Orioles game or just want a drink, this is a great option. Also when I was there I happened to get free Budweiser, Baltimore Orioles limited Edition can for free! So maybe you'll be a lucky one when you go too. From a service standpoint, they were really nice and again free beer! So kind of hard to beat in my opinion.

Yelp
I've been to Pickles several times but I'm general, I go there on Opening Day. It's a madhouse around there on Opening Day, yet somehow Pickles' employees handle all of the things with aplomb! If possible, I'm waited on promptly. Anything I was charged for was accurate. I ordered food and it came out to my specifications and it was easy to check out. They also have ice cream, which was a super bonus. Looking forward to next year's Opening Day, and any visits to Pickles that may be in between!

Yelp
Greasy Food!! We ordered Fried Pickle Fries and they were cold and swimming in grease when served! Drinks were average! Not the best place to pregame!
google avatar

Travis P.

Yelp
An average dive bar. They have found their niche and work it. The service was very slow and there was not a crowd either. I sat there for 10 minutes before moving to the bar, just to be seen so I could place my order. The burger was average, but definitely one of the greasiest I have ever eaten.

Yelp
I went here on 7/23 before the Yankees and Oriole's game. The place was packed, it was very difficult to find a table but my group managed to dine one indoors. I recommend arriving at least 2 hours in advance of a baseball game if you want to get a table or order food. I also recommended parking a few blocks away on the street or the easiest would be public transportation I ordered the burgers and fries. By far the burger was amazing. I was not expecting the burger to be as delicious and tasty for a pub. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Also the wait for the food was not long at all which was surprising since it was so packed. I would go back just for the burger any day. The service was also good despite being extremely packed. I believe I saw only one waitress for the back area but she seemed to be on top of the tables.
google avatar

Deven G.

Yelp
Great bar to visit right before the game! $8 drinks and an awesome cheeseburger stand outside.

William H.

Yelp
It took 20 minutes to get the worst drink l have had for years! The bartender was too busy talking to the other bartender to do her job! I will never go back!
google avatar

Megatron M.

Yelp
Half way through wings and beers.... we saw a Mouse. He was within 5 ft of us. He was a happy mouse...We named him Frederick. Frederick the MOUSE! I would of given a 1 star however, the service was good, the wings were solid, and the beer prices were great for a big city. We did stop eating after we saw Frederick. Frederick, we wish you the best in your future endeavors and we hope you meet a lovely mouse lady and live happily ever after. (Outside the building) #FrederickTheMouse

Yelp
I was not sure what Baltimore was all about before coming here, but I immediately got a good feeling as soon as I saw Pickles Pub. The bar was excellent and featured a great array of beverages and grub. I became a pickleholic after leaving. The Game Day Burger was excellent and juicy, and I couldn't get enough of their fried pickles. How can life get any better than being filled with the pickle spearit? Beware of the thieves on the streets. I almost got pocket-pickled on my way back to the Marriott.

Yelp
Pickle's Pub is the best. Read this review for more details. First of all, there is an awesome and alluring ambiance any and all O's gamedays. The energy of the human beings there is always a major slay and you can count on the people there to wear their orange (albeit some of the people don't know how to style their orange, but they still wear it which is cool. maybe they should consider watching some gameday styling advice videos on TikTok though for some assistance. Anyways, i'm getting off track). Next, Pickle's has some nice big crushes which are sure to get you twizzy! Whether you're a lightweight or a heavyweight, you'll be feeling good after one of the orange crushes. These crushes are beautifully made by the bartender Colin. I could go on and on all day about how great the bartender Colin is. He is a slay king. He looks like Joe Burrow. He will provide you with love and a smile as he hands you your gorgeous beverage. He is sure to provide you with a great day. The food here is great, as well. But - be warned- it is yummy and fried - so if you order one too many baskets of fried pickles, then you will indeed leave this establishment feeling like a fatty. You might feel horizontally challenged or voluminously wide or like an earth denter or like mcfattystuffins. All of that is to say -- eat in your means, don't order one too many baskets, unless you are okay with feeling just a tad bit chubbylicious. But all in all, I love the food. I just have to control myself. LOL!!!!! Come one, Come all to Pickles. i know i'll be back there soon because it's so slay. period queen, purrrrr. #LovePickles

Yelp
This used to be my go to place. Total Decline. I'm From out of town... but here a lot on business. Tap handles are all gone. Beers in a can. And the smallest order of wings(which are good) is ten for 17 bucks .... I think the bartender was also irritated he had to do something. Sad
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a local dive this is it. Great burger and beer. If your looking for more not your place. Great dive bar across the street from Camden Yards. Not a five star because food is limited but a five star dive bar!!!
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
Is it a gross dive bar, yes. Does it have perfectly cheap drinks before a Baltimore Orioles game, also yes. We tried the orange crush, which is obviously a Baltimore staple. It is so deceivingly tasty, that you will forget that there is alcohol in it and more than one will put you out for the full night. Was a great outdoor space to bring the kid as well before the game, had a blast with definitely pregame here before the next one.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Food was delicious! We ordered takeout and it was super quick even though they were really busy. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
We stopped here before a baseball game. As visiting fans were we pretty much the only visitors in there. I didn't realise how packed the place would be, sprawling out onto the street. It was definitely an atmosphere going on. I wanted to get food here but we didn't manage to get seats and outside was directly in the sun. We had Natty Bohs to drink, it's a shame they don't have these actually in the stadium. Very enjoyable.
google avatar

Ifeoma I.

Yelp
First time being at this charm city staple! Conveniently located right next to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Pickles Pub is a longtime Baltimore tradition and has been THE place for sports fans to watch their favorite teams for over 30 years; so myself and other game watchers stopped by right before the game started. I tried the pickles shot and actually liked it! We also ordered the crabby tots which tasted cheesy and crabby indeed! Even though we went amid the pandemic, there were lots of seating options both indoors and outdoors but the seats were distant in compliance with social distancing. The staff was really nice and helpful. I also noticed that the prices seemed reasonable and on par with other spots around the area. Don't wait too long before stopping by like me!

Sue B.

Yelp
This is an awesome place. Highly recommend. Went there before the game and it was very crowded. However it was worth the wait and burgers were delish as well as the fried pickles. I would go there again even we didn't go to the game. This looks like just a bar on the outside but inside was family friendly too. Loved it there.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
It's a cool place to stop by before or after the game. It gets packed so be aware. The food was good for bar food. We got the crab fries which was awesome and so was the burger. No host at host stand so we came and sat the bar. I think it's reasonably priced. Bartenders were friendly. Bathrooms were ok.
google avatar

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
This is a go to spot for their crushes and green tea shots. $12 for 24oz cups. This is a no frills type of dive bar with a sports focus right outside of the Orioles stadium. I haven't tried the food, but I've heard good things for standard burger and wings fare. The attitude of some of the bartenders can be a toss up so make sure you know what you want before starting to order.
google avatar

Francia F.

Yelp
This is a solidly four-star bar. Close to the Orioles stadium with great outdoor and indoor seating. We came on a Friday night when there wasn't a game, and it's a fun place to come hang out with friends. The staff are all friendly and The services fast. They serve these humongous fruit flavored crushes, which are vodka and triple sec. We got lime and orange, both are pretty tasty and refreshing. For $12 for the whole large cup, it's a pretty good deal. They have a good selection of food and honestly, it's not bad for bar food. We got the fried pickle BLT, the chicken quesadilla, and the Old Bay fries to share. Fried pickles are sort of a staple to get at pickles, so you should definitely try them in some form if you come here to eat. They tasted pretty good in the BLT, although there could've been a few more. Overall, this is a well-run place that is a staple in downtown Baltimore. Great for a fun night with friends.
google avatar

Necee C.

Yelp
Only thing outside of the alcohol I recommend is nothing. Literally nothing... they are known for their sliders and maybe it was an off day but they weren't seasoned at all... the wings weren't either... we literally just drinkers until we couldn't lol. And the alcohol didn't make it taste any better. Service was great though... definitely fitting for a bar crawl.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
I started working at UMMC a couple months ago and given how close the hospital is to here, you literally can't escape some sign of some kind telling you to go to Pickles. I hear pre-Covid, Pickles was the place to be for Ravens/Orioles games, happy hour after work, whatever your pub needs are... unfortunately covid seems to have dampened the mood. I'm giving Pickles 4 stars because I want them to have more business and I'm hopeful that at some point they can go back to their formal glory. The beer and drinks are fine, BUT the food is, in my opinion, kind of trash. The first time I went, I got the fried pickles because I love fried pickles and of course, because it's the pub's namesake. I'm not sure if I have high fried pickles standards but I just really didn't like it. The second time, I got the pulled pork sandwich and it just didn't hit the spot... luckily I don't think anyone goes to Pickles for gourmet food, so I say go to Pickles for the drinks and the (future) atmosphere, and don't count too hard on the food.
google avatar

Meredith L.

Yelp
Food was tasty and the service was solid, but it definitely has the ambience of a dive bar.
google avatar

Bryan P.

Yelp
If you come on a game day, be prepared for a crowd (but in a fun way!). This is the place to go before, during, and after any game at Camden Yards! It's also just an easy spot to meet up with some friends, share some beers, and buy some food. Their menu of food and beer has definitely expanded over the years, and for the better! Keep in mind that they do host events and parties, so while it doesn't normally interfere with a normal hang out, it could definitely get crowded. Plenty of TVs to watch whatever game you're looking for. There's also outdoor seating and seating away from the bar.

Rhonda D.

Yelp
Stopped at this dive bar for a quick bite and some drinks before a concert. Drinks were good. Chicken tenders were ok but nothing special. The Old Bay fries were good, but couldn't use the ranch dip because it was room temp and tasted weird. The hot honey bbq sauce had a nice flavor.
google avatar

Dayna K.

Yelp
Didn't eat here, it was packed before the Orioles game, stadium directly across the street. Servers were amazing considering so busy! And the girl had only been there 2 days! Kudos to her! This was my favorite place before the game for sure. We went after the game too. Had to go for my boyfriends Natty Bo's
google avatar

Cage H.

Yelp
Cool old-school sports bar across the street from the Orioles stadium. Nice selection of local and other craft beers, including an awesome brown ale from Monument City Brewing Company (MCB). Good music, friendly and fast service. Open late, but kitchen closes around 9:45 pm. The pickle fries are a bit unusual, cut to look like regular thick fries rather than wedges or discs. The crab balls are quite tasty and come with a nicely piquant cocktail sauce that's heavy on the horseradish. The Old Bay fries have a perfect amount of Old Bay to be flavorful without overwhelming. The honey & Old Bay hot wings are tasty, meaty, and perfectly cooked. Good music, largely 80s-90s. They have outdoor seating.
google avatar

Jack J.

Yelp
What a disappointment !!! This place is dark. Everything is black including the restrooms. I'm hear now as posting this, my glass is empty, my bartender walked by six times From my view at the bar, the build of of crap and debris should not be visible to anyone sitting here. The bathrooms are gross. Dirty, painted black also. I'll hold it till I go next door.
google avatar

Tara R.

Yelp
My husband and I went to the Orioles game on Father's Day and stayed for a few innings before calling it quits because of the heat. We headed back to Pickles Pub where we already stopped for a drink prior to the game. It was rather empty so we grabbed seats at the bar. We each had a couple drinks, beer and orange crushes. We had an order of Old Bay wings which were amazing! They were super crispy and delicious, just the way I like them. The bartenders were all super friendly and fun.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
It's a divey sports bar scross the street from Camden Yards, which means it's a haven for pre or post game revelers. What it lacks in atmosphere it more than makes up for with dancing pickles adorning the walls. If you want a wild, exciting atmosphere for the game, this place must be a crazy party during the playoffs.
google avatar

Tyler P.

Yelp
Great food! Ambiance is a little dark. Service is good though for a busy pub next to a ballpark.

Tom P.

Yelp
Does anyone know if pickles pub in Baltimore is okay for nut allergy ? What kind of oil they use. Thank you .

Anthony P.

Yelp
I would leave negative stars if I could. Because of how Rude some of the people are. Our first server was good. We ordered food for the first 7 of us and when the bill came we gave her a card to pay for it. My son and daughter showed up 20 min later and I ordered food for them and drinks. When I went to pay for it a different waitress gives me a bill for all the food for 9 people. When I said my cousin gave you payment for that she said that was to open a tab. I don't know about Baltimore, but when a waitress comes to the table in NY with the bill and you give them a card to pay for it the charge the card not open a tab! When I explained he gave you the card to pay for the first bill she didn't want to hear it and charged the original card the total amount that I gave her the card to charge. Then bitches about the tip in cash we left. The tip reflected your unprofessionalism, not the other waitresses service. Oh, by the way yes there was a mouse running around. Would never go there if I come back to town.
google avatar

Arielle W.

Yelp
We were visiting for a baseball game and this was close to our hotel. The food was okay, I would describe as typical bar food. Everything was deep fried and SALTY. Soooo salty. It was hard to taste anything because the saltiness was so overwhelming. I heard the pretzel is popular but didn't find it tasted like a pretzel. Just some salty bread.
google avatar

Helen G.

Yelp
Absolute best orange crushes in the city!!! Great food and atmosphere too. Gets a little packed before games so get there early if you want an actual table.

Dylan T.

Yelp
Elite and that's it, best Wings and Burgers in Bmore. Best place to pre/post game for Orioles and Ravens games.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
Since going to school in Baltimore in 2012, this has become a go-to bar and watering hole while on Baltimore. Great bartenders and don't sleep on the food - especially the wings with Old Bay or Buffalo sauce.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
The greatest place for a crush, the deal and flavor is unmatched. Also best wings in Baltimore BY FAR

Dennis M.

Yelp
Place is directly north of Camden Yards and just across the street. We went there for a pre-game bite. Crowd was still light and we were greeted and seated immediately upstairs. Our sever took our orders and the beers came quickly. We had the fried pickles (recommended) and the hummus dish. As it got closer to game time, the crowd increased and when we left, a lot of patrons were standing out front. Overall good crowd and good food and beer.
