Pick.Your.Own - Review - Spitalfields - London - The Infatuation

"Pick.Your.Own is a grab-and-go salad bar near Fenchurch Street. Bases include pearl barley or shredded vegetables, and ‘textures’ refers to toppings like carrot sauerkraut and chicken crackling. You’ll also get a choice of ‘toppers’ and ‘flavours’, which are in fact dressings like raw apple cider vinaigrette. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Incredibly disappointing. The prices looked quite high but decided to get them a go as everything looked fresh. The amount of meat served for £14 was a complete joke and concerningly they seemed to weigh out the portion, meaning it is the correct amount. Maybe my expectations are wrong but I can’t imagine how little meat a standard portion would get you. If I had paid £8 I would have been disappointed. The food itself was ok but unfortunately can’t justify returning

This place has a very similar vibe to Farmer J’s but in my opinion is so much better. You’re spending the same amount of money (so it’s not cheap) but you get so much more variety for that. This meal was £14 but cost me £9 as I signed up to their loyalty scheme and got £5 off for my bday! I was pleasantly surprised to see that the avocado add-on was genuinely half a large avocado and not just a pathetic spoonful! I also love the chicken crackling and wish they would just do this by the bag-full so I could snack on it all day…

Third time here. What an experience!! I stand by what I said about P.Y.O. having the best selection of meats/fish/main toppings. Today I got the everything-bagel-crusted salmon and it was so good!! (Ps. I don’t actually know if it’s called that but maybe it should be.) The staff are so warm and welcoming. I do feel one step closer to making “that” salad. You know, like the subway sandwich you make when you’re 12 and never look back. I look forward to that day. While you’re here, definitely read through my evolution of thoughts on this establishment. 5 stars, well earned. - - - - - - - - - - This review includes two experiences, the one below was my first impression and the one above is a more recent experience. So I went back, and I enjoyed my order so much more. Ditched the fava beans, they’re just odd. And this is coming from someone who is culturally exposed to a laaarge variety of beans. The lamb was delicious. I tried some of the other sauces and they were great! I do like this place, I definitely think there’s potential to grow and I’d be keen to return. The variety of meats here are a lot more attractive than other salad spots. I do appreciate that my review caught the attention of the P.Y.O. and I always appreciate being reached out to about experiences. While I didn’t quite find the time to reply, I did manage to make it back there at lunch time. Hence this review. In short, don’t knock it until you really try it and find what works well for you! - - - - - - - - - - Not my favourite salad in the area but… I’m not saying it can’t be. I came across this place on my way to Birley’s and after taking a peak through the window, I was intrigued by what they were serving. If you’re following my review journey, you may have noticed me making my way around the salad spots in the EC3 area. This is maybe the 4th place I’ve tried so there’s a bit of competition to keep up with. Let me cover the good points. The place has a nice vibe to it, the staff are friendly, portion sizes are hearty and the price is similar to other venders in the area. I got the honey mustard dressing and it was pleasant, not overpowering at all and I’d definitely have it again. The meat selection looked appetising and the shredded chicken was perfectly moist. Now for the not so great parts… I did select an array in terms of the base but ended up with significantly more barley and beans than salad so there was definitely an imbalance there. The fava beans were doing too much, I didn’t enjoy the texture of them. The toppings spread was limited in comparison to other places serving similar food. And lastly, the croutons weren’t crunchy - they were rock hard like they caught moisture and dried up prior to being tossed in any dressing. Would I give this place another go? Definitely, but I would order something different. It would be nice to see a little more variety, a change in the crouton-making process and I think it would help if some people were dotted around Leadenhall market with a little voucher and directions on where to find this place. The footfall was definitely lacking when I first saw this place and even when I visited today. And… as much as I’d love to be able to grab a quick bite with no queuing up, it would be great to see this place thrive! Strongly believe this place has the potential to grow, there were some heads turning when I pulled this out at the office! And I think it would help if people knew this place existed!

This is by far the best curated bowls restaurant I’ve ever been to. They have a variety of organic bowls and they all look delicious. They offer free juice with your order on Friday which is a treat! I ordered the cucumber pineapple one. I will 100% come back again!

Pick Your Own is one of those places that hits the sweet spot for a healthy city lunch. Been here a few times now and always walk away impressed – loads of fresh options, clearly labelled ingredients, and great flavour across the board. Whether you’re grabbing something quick for the office or sitting down for a calmer break, it works both ways. The team is genuinely friendly, the space is well laid out, and the food consistently feels high quality without being overpriced. Even their Deliveroo game is strong. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

Edited / the PYO founder Christian reached out to me to rectify the issue, much appreciated guys ! Nice to see genuine customer service taking precedent. *previous review below* Pre ordered a salad for my lunch break (at 10 am!) arrived to pick it up at the time arranged, was made to wait over 15 minutes and then told they had sold out of the core protein I ordered. Asked for a refund was left waiting around for another 10 minutes just for the manager to tell me he can’t do refunds at the till, only online Service was abysmal, clearly understaffed and ridiculous to run out of something as basic as chicken on a Thursday lunchtime in the city. Won’t be coming back.

Just tried this place. Created a pick your own salad. It really didn't have many decent vegetable choices. The vast majority of it was the bean base I selected, and the beans were definitely not cooked fully. Lots of rules. Lots of restrictions. Not a great experience. Can't see this place lasting with all the other superior salad / healthy food options around. Two stars because I paid for a lunch where the majority wasn't cooked properly.

Food is very tasty, but £5.50 for a small fillet of salmon. When I mentioned at the till that my colleague’s fillet seemed much bigger the member of staff just stated that it’s weighed and then turned away.
